The amount of recovered LNG capex can be increased if heat exchanger components (condensers and vaporizers) are constructed with hydrogen compatible materials and in a modular way. … Considering hydrogen compatibility in the material selection will incur higher upfront cost, due to the higher cost of high-alloyed stainless steels… Inferences for the feasibility of conversion LNG terminals for LH2 depend not only on the components in the terminal, but also on the role of LH2 as an energy carrier itself. Its use in future energy system is highly debated, and stakeholders often come to different conclusions….”.
