LIFE MareNatura , protecting marine life in a changing world, a documentary produced by MEDASSET in the framework of the LIFE MareNatura project, takes viewers across Greece and Italy to explore nine vulnerable and EU priority species of marine megafauna. The Loggerhead & Green Turtles, the Mediterranean Monk Seal, the Harbour Porpoise, the Sperm Whale, the Cuvier’s Beaked Whale, the Common Dolphin, the Yelkouan Shearwater & Audouin’s Gull and the fragile ecosystems they inhabit.

This journey spans across Greece and Italy driven by the ambition of LIFEMareNatura project to identify biodiversity hotspots, systematically monitor marine megafauna, and support the expansion of the Natura2000 network.

From Aegean seas to the South Adriatic, the film reveals the daily work of scientists monitoring offshore habitats and addressing threats to marine biodiversity through the identification of important areas for these species, which will be proposed for inclusion in the Greek Natura 2000 network of protected areas. In this way, the project is expected to contribute decisively to the " 30 by 30 " target where at least 30% of sea and land in Europe must be placed under protection status by 2030.

Filming LIFE MareNatura’s documentary, was an odyssey across sea and sky. The production followed scientists on land and aboard research vessels, capturing the pulse of the Mediterranean through every possible lens. Drone cameras revealed sweeping aerial vistas of remote coasts and marine sanctuaries, while underwater cinematography brings us face-to-face with whales, turtles, and shimmering shoals beneath the surface.
