About the Exhibition In this exhibition, "PETAL PUSHER WITH LOVE" artist Cathy Benny draws us into her world one petal at a time, sharing her optimism through each bloom. She does this with color, texture and the unapologetic chaotic movement of a spatula, brushes and splash of zest for life.

She creates a story of petals that may or may not have a real existence, but that are now born by intertwining a touch of romance into the painting breathing them into existence.

We can all imagine ourselves immersed in the folds of each petal and enveloped in a world that is surrounded by optimism. While winding us through that road, she masterfully chooses the perfect balance of light, color and movement to remind us not only of the beauty, but the complexity and thought it takes to achieve such a work of art. Beauty and strength frozen in time for your viewing pleasure.

CATHY BENNY Born in Montreal, Canada, Catherine Benny’s earliest paintings depicted various street scenes in and around her hometown.

Over the years, her body of work has grown to include her abstract work series, her heart series, floral landscapes, and her now signature floral abstracts.

Benny has developed an approach to painting over the years that involves blending colors directly on the canvas using a palette knife and oil paints. She doesn’t sketch prior to painting, which leads her composition and focal points to change throughout the process as does the quality and quantity of texture on the canvas; the results are rich and layered backgrounds that give the sense of traveling into a painting.

“I am an instinctive artist who paints in oil by applying colors directly to the canvas with knives and brushes. Looking for rich backgrounds, I scrape and build up the layers of the painting.

Although I may start with an idea, the direction often changes enroute and that is the mystery that keeps me wanting to do more.”
