Creative Co-working in Dover Although Port City is currently the Seacoast’s only official makerspace, there’s a movement under way in Dover to fund a “creative co-working space.” Tentatively called The Junction, it’s part co-working space, makerspace and hackerspace: a single location for people and/or hobby groups to gather with their laptops, art gear and ideas. “I want to create something like a community center,” says Georgene Nunn, an organizer. “It’s a makerspace, but also an area where you can rent an office. We’ll offer resources rather than power tools.” The organization is still in the planning and community outreach phase; Nunn hopes to launch a Kickstarter campaign for funding and identify a space this spring. Whether working with power tools or art supplies, the common bond of maker groups is community. And that’s why people join. “The tools bring people in (to Makerspace),” says Joss Reeves, “but it’s the community that keeps them here.” p Port City Makerspace 68 Morning St. Portsmouth, NH 603-373-1002 portcitymakerspace.com The Junction georgene.nunn+junction@gmail.com junctionnh.com
