ustin tops the Kauffman Institute Index for Metropolitan Startup Activity for 2015 and is No. 1 for U.S. STEM job creation (Dallas and Houston closely follow). At the core is a university with the determination to change the world through research, technology commercialization, and of course, teaching that inspires creativity and innovation among our 51,000 students. As the number and scope of entrepreneurship programs increase at the school, Professor Luis Martins, chair of the department of management, has been appointed to serve as the McCombs Entrepreneurship Programs Coordinator. He will foster collaboration among faculty and program leaders in shaping the school’s growing portfolio of entrepreneurship courses and resources.

Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition (TVLIC)

Women Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship

“Investor-Ready” graduate student-led startups now compete twice a year for a wide array of investment funds. Spring 2016 included nine MSTC teams and 15 MBA teams. Dozens of companies have been launched through TVLIC, and the competition has been revamped and expanded to even more effectively enable startup success. Winner QuickPlan Solutions (an MSTC team, now Progrys Field Solutions) rang the closing bell at Nasdaq, a TVLIC sponsor.

Accomplished women business founders and executives share success tips on advocacy, negotiation, and other areas. Run by the HKC entrepreneur in residence, this program is open for sponsorship.

Startup Mentor Madness Aspiring student entrepreneurs meet with startup founders and investors for validation, advice, and network expansion. HKC is looking for additional mentors.
