MEGAN TRAN-OLMSTED

Recent UT graduate and Canfield BHP alum, Megan Tran-Olmsted, took what she learned in the classroom and applied it to case competitions and her career. The team and case-based learning she encountered in her Canfield BHP classes have prepared her for internships in the nonprofit sector, private equity, and investment banking. Most recently, Megan spent a summer with Goldman Sachs where she had the opportunity to work on IPOs and assist with assets and divestitures in the natural resources space. She also won numerous team case competitions both within UT and at other top undergraduate business schools across the nation. With a wealth of experiences, Megan is passionate about giving back to the Canfield BHP and McCombs communities: She is the former Director of Investment for the University Securities Investment Team, a former mentor with Wall Street for McCombs, and the former Supervising Peer Advisor for the Canfield BHP Office. For Megan, choosing Canfield BHP meant that she could learn and grow alongside a cohort of peers, while being at UT and in the city of Austin allowed her to expand her thinking and explore her diverse interests. Upon wrapping up her time at UT in 2019, Megan will spend a month backpacking through Europe before starting full-time at Goldman Sachs.

MOST OF THE INTERNSHIPS THAT I HAVE HAD REQUIRED AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF TEAMWORK TO ACCOMPLISH THE PROJECT GOAL. BECAUSE OF THE CASE-BASED AND GROUP-LEARNING CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT OF CANFIELD BHP CLASSES, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ENHANCE MY TEAMWORK SKILLS AND BECOME A BETTER CONTRIBUTING MEMBER. 11

Majors: Canfield BHP, Management Information Systems; Certificate in Elements of Computing, Minor in Educational Psychology Canfield Business Honors Program Class of 2019

RON JONES

19 ’

Recent UT graduate and Canfield BHP alum, Ron Jones, leveraged his dual majors, certificate, and minor to solve problems flexibly. When Ron first started taking courses for his Management Information Systems major, he became fascinated by the idea of mental models and began taking Educational Psychology courses that he enjoyed. He eventually became drawn to the more technical side of programming and added a Computer Science certificate. Ron believed these academic pursuits complemented one another because he envisioned that he could use his Educational Psychology background to understand what drives value for the business or consumer. Then, apply his Canfield BHP and MIS coursework to develop a strategy when faced with a new project or team, and finally use his technical skills from Computer Science to devise a solution. Ron thrived in situations where he could solve different kinds of problems, such as case competitions, hackathons, and service organizations with a focus on coding. During his time in Canfield BHP, Ron gained the opportunity to take part in an internship with Facebook in their data science division. In addition to his technical interests, Ron served as a student recruiter for Canfield BHP and enjoyed the opportunity to clear up any confusion or anxiety around the college application and decision process for his peers and prospective students.

VISITING THE PROGRAM BLEW ME AWAY. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY SOLD ME WAS THE MOCK CLASS DURING DISCOVER CANFIELD BHP; WHEN I WAS IN THERE, I COULD REALLY SEE MYSELF DOING THIS DEGREE AND LIVING THIS LIFE. AUSTIN WAS THE BEST PLACE FOR ME TO BE GIVEN MY INTERESTS IN TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS. 15

KELLY MERRMAN MERRYMAN Before joining YouTube in 2015, Kelly was VP of Content Acquisition for Netflix for seven years. Coming out of Canfield BHP, she was interested in management consulting, so she accepted a position with Bain in their Dallas office and worked as a consultant in a variety of industries. That time, she became interested in the entertainment industry and the introduction of digital distribution to that industry.
