News & Events

Bankable Assets It’s always satisfying, taking grant applications to the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank for consideration by the panel. The applications need to be detailed, well argued and with a cash flow forecast that will deliver a reasonable first-year profit. With good work, they will receive approval and the difference these awards can make to a young business is significant. In June, four applications were submitted; George of PG Music needed a laptop for his music composition and mixing, Xeorelle needed equipment and stock for her beauty aesthetics business.

Sammy asked for support towards a sublimation printer for her gifts business and Lewis needed software to help university students change the way they approach their learning. All impressed the panel and all were successful. Look out for these young entrepreneurs and their products and services in the near future! MC4C Office Return

MC4C are now located in Lil Bilocca House, Porter Street in our new offices. We are very pleased with them and the team are starting to return under COVID guidelines. To keep everyone safe we are continuing with virtual group skills and 121’s via Zoom/Teams. We would like to thank all for your cooperation during these times and look forward to when we can open our doors to you all. You can watch a virtual office preview here. Remember MC4C supports 16-29 year olds looking for employment, education, or in becoming their own boss.

Congratulations to Bethany! Bethany Selway, a former MC4C participant, visited the Employment Hub with MC4C Advisor Gemma Lacey. Bethany had lost her self-belief in working within the childcare sector. Gemma reiterated the STAR techniques for interview skills and reminded her of a time where Bethany stepped into help during a Big 13 session. One learner had brought her young child with her. Bethany asked the learner if she would like her to watch them. Bethany’s displayed a kind, calm and natural persona. Gemma suggested to Bethany she could use that as an example of using her initiative. Shortly after the 121 Bethany messaged saying she had a new job at a nursery, and thanked us for supporting her and boosting her confidence. We wish Bethany all the best in her new job!

In The Spotlight… Zeporal Entertainment David Riszko

That’s Entertainment Many businesses try to hit the ground running, generating as much profit as possible from Day 1. David Riszko knows this isn’t possible and Zeporal Entertainment, the games business he’s recently started with help from MC4C and The John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, will need to wait a few months to see any income. That’s because it can take at least four months of painstaking work to develop and test a mobile phone game, as David learned while studying for a BSc in Games Production at Nottingham. By the end of his first year’s trading, he expects to have at least two games on Android and iPhone platforms. His success will inevitably be down to the whim of the customer, but David has ideas for innovative development, creative marketing and creating a brand identity that will keep the consumer coming back for more. Micro Business Support

Loving Memory Memorial Keepsakes Toni Alden When I first joined MC4C, I never realised how much support I would receive both financially and physically towards my ever growing business. I created In "Loving Memory Memorial Keepsakes" with the idea of giving those who have lost a loved one something precious, containing ashes or hair, that they can hold on to and pass down the family. I started off with little confidence and extreme anxiety, I found it difficult to even speak to somebody on the phone but with help from Tracy Sheldon at Micro Business Support. We have worked together slowly on my worries and stress. I am now full of confidence and walk around with a smile on my face. Working in self employment has given me the ability to choose my own hours, so I am able to spend more quality time with my little boy. Which I am very grateful for as I have never missed a milestone. I went to MC4C with a ‘what will be will be’ attitude. There have been times I have wanted to give up but MC4C and Micro Business Support have exceeded my expectations and given me the drive and determination I needed to believe in myself and my business. Now its onwards and upwards for me! Check out Toni’s products on Facebook.

YOUTH ENTERPRISE & MICROBUSINESS NEWSLETTER EDITION 6 - 2021

Judith’s Journey This month has been exciting. I’ve really enjoyed going back to the office. Starting a new job remotely had its challenges but I’m happy to have (socially distanced) face-to-face interaction with my colleagues. Working alongside a graphic designer to establish a logo for my business has also been a highlight. Together we have achieved a logo that is inviting and encapsulates warmth.

I’m currently working to trademark my business name and logo and hope to reveal both in the next newsletter, in the meantime here’s a sneak peak of the logo. I think attending webinars from the comfort of my sofa, is my new favourite thing to do. The Micro Business webinar at the Humber Business Week hosted by the Humber LEP was really intriguing. I received excellent advice for a new start up by interviewing two business experts. The webinar, highlighted the routes to finding support to develop your business idea and also the different organisations that can provide business and financial support.

I had another opportunity to speak to the owner of Zeporal Entertainment and a fellow young entrepreneur David Riszko. It was exhilarating to engage with a young person who, despite also enduring this difficult time we have all faced, has created fun games to keep us busy during lockdown. You can watch the full interview here.
