Neurodiversity Celebration Week March 21-27, 2022 This celebration week is a worldwide initiative that challenges the stereotypes and misconceptions around autism and learning disabilities. It aims to encourage schools to recognise the strengths and talents of young people who are neurodiverse and who think and learn differently. It includes students who have ADHD or autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dyspraxia.

At both national and international levels, over 1,400 schools and 685,000 students worldwide, have signed up to participate in celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Awareness will also be raised through themed events and guest speakers. The week is endorsed by over 20 charities and hundreds of businesses and organisations are taking part, including the Stock Exchange, The U.K. Ministry of Defence, The Royal Navy, Deloitte, Savills and AstraZeneca. Many leading people, such as Richard Branson, Bill Gates, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Florence Welch, Kiera Knightley, Jennifer Aniston, Cher and The Second Sea Lord Vice Admiral, Nick Hine are neurodiverse, clearly showing that it is no hindrance to success.

Neurodiversity Week Competition!

Hull City Council, Hull Culture & Leisure and The John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank are encouraging young people in Hull, aged 25 and under, to enter the neurodiversity week competition. To enter, you need to produce an image to illustrate at least one of the conditions that come under the neurodiversity banner. Individuals and schools can send their entries to Charles.Cracknell@hullcc.gov.uk or post them on their social media accounts, with the hashtags #NeuroDiversityWeek and #HullNDW22. A judging panel, chaired by Councillor Aneesa Akbar, will decide the individual three winners who will receive cash prizes of £75, £50 or £25. The educational establishment with the overall best entries will also receive £250 from the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank to go towards celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2023. The winners will have afternoon tea with the Lord Mayor and possibly have their images placed in Ferens Art Gallery. Councillor Aneesa Akbar, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "I am delighted to be chairing the judging panel for this competition to celebrate Neurodiversity Week and looking forward to seeing some great entries from the young people of Hull. At Hull City Council we believe it is important to raise awareness and encourage openness around neurodiversity. We hope it will ensure our employees are treated fairly and have the confidence to discuss the help they need."

Last years winner, Macauley of Northcott school, presented his winning image to Charles Cracknell our Youth Enterprise Manager.
