Lab Rascals- Enterprise & Science A recently funded rollout of STEM sessions, with a Big 13 Skills twist, has proven to be very successful across several Hull Schools. Katie Norman of Lab Rascals said: “Having the ability to bring STEM and enterprise into local classrooms is amazing. In The Spotlight…

Ahmad Ismaiel

Ahmad is an inspiring young entrepreneur and wanted to open a food business, when he first started with MC4C. He was also volunteering at a Methodist church as a legal advisor. Ahmad is originally from Syria and won a scholarship to study in the USA over 5 years ago and came to England on an exchange programme, but his life changed at this point as the rules around refugees entering the US had changed and Ahmad could no longer return to the USA. He then wanted to help others with these types of issues and began studying Law at Sussex University. He won his right to stay in the UK and relocated to Hull where he started volunteering for the British Red Cross, giving advice and help for refugees. He gave basic legal advice under the supervision of a group coordinator, Interpreted and translated Arabic to English and English to Arabic when needed, He provided basic counselling for frustrated refugees and also with support from MC4C looked at skills needed to become his own boss. Ahmad is a young man with huge dreams; after some time with MC4C, he has recently been offered a paralegal position in a solicitor’s firm in Manchester and is now relocating there. He wanted to thank the MC4C team: “Thank you for all your help and support I felt lost when I first started the programme, but with your encouragement and belief in me, I found myself again.” MC4C are very proud to have supported Ahmad, even for a short amount of time and believe Ahmad will do great things in his future and are in awe of his achievements this far for such a young man.

EXPO-SURE… In early June, the latest Trade Expo organised by Hull Chamber of Commerce, was held, not virtually this year, but in person at the Mercure in Willerby. Masses of stalls, pull-ups and banners and for MC4C, an opportunity to meet those from the business world and to display the talents of two of our Youth Enterprise Ambassadors. With MC4C’s help, James Danville’s business, Room 73, has established him as a musician, composer and music producer. He talked to businesses about his work and explored opportunities to deliver workshops in rapping and DJ work. James said “I found the event exciting as I had never been to anything like this before; it was great to network and speak to other business owners” Sammy Gibson owner of Beautilocks and Creations Galore attended the Trade Expo straight from her salon. She brought some of her products to display, products such as carpet freshener soaps and room spray which brought a beautiful scent to the room. Many people who passed by the stand stopped to enquire about the products. Sammy was able to share her business card and directed people on how they could order the products. She said "I thought the Expo was really useful because I was able to look around at other businesses and see what they had to offer. I was able to talk to other businesses about how MC4C helped me with my businesses and what could be in store in the future”. And we interested a number of exhibitors in our Mentors programme, too. All part of helping our enterprising young people.
