News The John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank established an Emergency Grant Scheme fund early 2020, in response to the COVID crisis. The fund helps support young people who often fall outside of the criteria for Government initiatives. The fund has now issued more than 100 emergency grants to businesses run by young people, and to young people in financial difficulty. The Scheme supported by Hull City Council, and private businesses, has provided a vital financial lifeline, as well as a business mentor to offer ongoing support. Here’s what some of the grant recipients had to say.

YOUTH ENTERPRISE & MICROBUSINESS NEWSLETTER EDITION 1 - 2021

Interested in learning more about the work of Hull City Council’s Youth Enterprise and Micro Business team? Work with clients who may be interested in setting up their own business? Or with people under 29, who need support in finding work, or further training?

Adam Corbally This edition we hear from Adam. An entrepreneur in his own right, Adam is also a keen supporter of youth enterprise across Hull. “I was so proud when I was asked to be Patron for MC4C, the young people of Hull have amazed me from day one with their creativity and fantastic ideas, this along with the support from MC4C and the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank have helped make their ideas come to life and the young people’s dreams turn into reality, which is truly inspiring! I see resilience as one of the key skills in business and the young entrepreneurs in Hull have shown bags of it recently, one of my highlights of 2020 was co-hosting Global Entrepreneurship week and celebrating the amazing achievements of the next generation of Entrepreneurs and having the privilege of announcing the winners of the Enterprise challenge. I am now a mentor and coach for a few young Entrepreneurs in Hull and the raw talent and ideas I am seeing is amazing, it is so rewarding listening to their ideas and helping them on their business journey.

I would encourage anyone who feels they could help a young Entrepreneur in Hull to get involved and invest in our future, the next generation.”

As unemployment levels rise across the City we are pushing to reach as many people as we can. We are exploring hosting online forums, where representatives from your organisation can learn more about the help on offer and how to refer people to us. If you would be interested in attending one of these events please email Sarah.Bonnett@hullcc.gov.uk.

Beauty by Ella Ella Ounsworth

In The Spotlight…

Ella joined the MC4C programme last summer, as an experienced and qualified Beauty Therapist. With an ambition to own her own home with a garden studio to serve clients. Ella progressed quickly in setting up her business. Offering a wide range of beauty treatments, with a focus on an excellent customer experience, Ella is currently operating from her family home. However, as with so many other small businesses, lockdowns and Tier restrictions have forced Ella to temporarily suspend trade. This hasn’t stopped her in pushing to achieve her goals though. Ella is now working 12 hour shifts with the NHS, supporting the national COVID response, while still earning and saving towards that garden studio. We all deserve some pampering post-lockdown, so check out more of Ella’s work and treatment options by clicking on Instagram or Facebook.
