Micro Business Support The Start Up Support Service is available to all Hull residents looking to start a business, or within their first year of trading. Here’s Chris McWatt’s story so far…

“I trained as a chef from leaving school, working in the food and beverage industry for many years. In 2020 I was made redundant and decided now is the time to bet on myself and start my own business - Your Creation. Your Creation is a takeaway that specialises in Burgers and Hotdogs, but gives the customer full control to design their own perfect meal with over 60 individual add-ons. Tracy at Micro Biz has been fantastic right from day 1. Arranging business support workshop’s, helping me put together my business plan, advising on compliance and regulations, and giving me honest and constructive advice on all of my ideas. I have learned so much about starting a business from Micro Biz that I am fully confident mine will be a success and I am excited to begin my new career, thank you.”

Who’s Zooming Who? We’ve used Zoom to great effect throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve helped people find work, set up in business, and pursue further training despite never meeting them in person. For many of those Zoom has allowed them to participate in a way they may have found uncomfortable, or intimidating, if we had all been sitting around one big table. Zoom’s don’t always run smooth though. They can be disrupted by poor internet, trains, and noisy DIY projects! And every so often they are invaded by cats, dogs and Daisy the pet…chicken?!!!

ATI Cars Atis Tipsis

In The Spotlight…

Atis signed up to the MC4C programme in summer 2020 hoping to pursue a future in the motor trade. “I’ve always had a passion for cars, from an early age. Once I could afford to buy my own vehicle, using small amounts of savings, gifts and cheap deals from friends, I realised that buying and selling cars was something I could maybe do professionally.” Atis was a quick learner picking up the skills so he could become his own boss. As well as learning about the particular requirements of buying and selling cars through his support on MC4C, his mentor and the Micro Business Advisor. He has been working on building good relationships with a number of mechanics, researching land rental to display and sell vehicles from, how to keep his customers safe during the pandemic and investigating start up loans. Atis plans to offer a wide range of affordable, quality, second hand cars that would suit working families, single commuters, or that sportier weekend drive. In the longer term Atis would like to grow the business and run a full premises and office.
