Protocols for Suspected Incidents of Academic Dishonesty TheMiddleSchoolDean(grades6-8)andtheDeanofStudentConduct(grades9-12)maintainstudentrecords pertainingtoincidentsofacademicdishonesty Inasituationwherestudent'sacademicintegrityisinquestion, thefollowingprotocolsareinplace:

Chemical Health Policy MorristownBeardSchooliscommittedtoprovidingandmaintainingadrug-freelearningenvironmentthat promotesthehealthandwellbeingofourstudents. Theschoolaimstoeducateandraiseawarenessofthe dangersofsubstanceabuse,andstrivestosupportstudentsinmakingpositive,healthydecisions.MBSconsiders anyuseofcontrolledsubstancesbystudentstobemisuse.
Tothisend,theschoolmaintainsazero-tolerancepolicytowardillegal,non-prescriptiondrug,misused prescriptiondrugs,andalcoholuseonschoolproperty,ontheschool'sbuses(orsub-contractors),orata school-relatedfunction. Anystudentfoundinviolationofthefollowingruleswillfacedisciplinaryaction,upto andincludingdismissalfromschool:

Ifreliableinformationreachestheschoolthatastudentwasunderthein uenceofeitherdrugsoralcoholata non-MBSevent,creatingconcernforthatstudent’soverallwellbeing,theHeadofMiddleorUpperSchoolwill discussthisinformationwiththestudent’sdeanandtheschoolcounselors TheSchoolwillcontactthe student’sparents/guardianstomakethemawareoftheinformationandtodiscussanyconcernsorareasfor support.
Ifschoolo cialssuspectaparticularstudent’sstrugglesinschoolarearesultofapotentialsubstanceuse problem,theHeadofMiddleorUpperSchoolwillconveneameetingofthatstudent’sadvisor,dean,teachers, andcoachestogatherpertinentbehavioraldataabouttheparticularstudent.Additionalsta membersdeemed appropriatebytheSchoolmayalsoattendthismeeting.
Dependingupontheresultsoftheconferenceandanyadditionalinformationcontainedinthestudent’s le,the Schoolmayaskforameetingwiththeparents/guardianstodiscusstheissue TheSchoolmayrequirethe studenttoundergoongoingdrugscreening,achemicalhealthassessment,counselingsessionsand/orparticipate inasubstanceuseprogramasaconditionofmaintainingthechild’senrollmentatMorristownBeard Inturn, theSchoolwillrequiredocumentationthereof
Ifastudentreachesouttoateacher,administrator,oranysta memberinane orttoseekouthelpforanyof theaforementionedissues,theHeadofMiddleorUpperSchoolwillbealerted Inconsultationwithschool counselorsandtheparents/guardians,theSchoolwillattempttoascertainthedepthoftheproblemsothatthe familymayobtaintimelyassistancefortheirchild.Theseinstancesmaynotnecessarilyinvolvedisciplinary action,thoughanemphasisontheoverallwellbeingofthestudentmaynecessitateaMedicalLeaveofAbsence (seeMedicalLeavePolicyforfurtherdetails)orwithdrawalfromschool.

Leaves of Absence Leave of Absence for Opportunity
MBSfamiliesmayalsorequestaleaveinordertotakeadvantageofanopportunitythatrequiresthemtolive awayfromtheMorristownareaforuptoayear.MBShasastrongcommitmenttoitscurrentfamiliesandwe willdoourbesttofacilitateandsupportthestudents’returntoMBS.Wealsorecognizethatspecial opportunitiesbroadenourstudents’educationalexperienceinwaysthatwillbene tnotonlythefamily,but alsotheentireschoolcommunity.
Procedure for a leave of absence for opportunity:
● Families planning to take a one-year leave should inform the Admission Office no later than March 1. If the family planning to take leave has already signed a re-enrollment contract and made a deposit or payment, please refer to the contract for information on refundability and ability to cancel the contract.

MEDICAL LEAVES AND RELATED SHORT-TERM ACCOMMODATIONS Amedicalleavefromschoolmaybeappropriateincaseofseriousillness,bodilyinjury,ormentalhealth condition,asdeterminedinaccordancewiththispolicy.Studentsandfamiliesshouldworkcloselywiththe Schoolwhenastudent’shealthstatuswarrantsspecialaccommodationsduetoaserioushealthcondition.In accordancewiththeSchool’sMedicalLeavePolicies,academicaccommodationsbecauseofastudent’sserious healthconditionarebasedoneachuniquecircumstance,andtheSchoolmaymakeaccommodationsbased uponadiagnosisfromthemedicalprofessionalcaringforthestudentandthefamily’scommitmenttothe recommendedtreatment TheSchool,initssolediscretion,willdeterminewhetheranaccommodationcanbe madewithoutfundamentallyalteringtheacademicprogramorcausingtheSchoolanundueburden
Thegoalofshort-termaccommodationsistohelpstudentstransitionbackintofullhealthand,whenready, backintofullengagementwiththepaceandchallengeoftheregularacademicprogram Coursecreditis grantedwhentheminimumrequirementsforaclasshavebeenmet.
