CSR Activities AND its Significance Abhay Desai Assistant Professor (Marketing), Atharva Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

ABSTRACT The case study describes about the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities performed by the company amidst the controversies erupted because of peculiar sales and marketing policies implemented by the company to augment their business. CSR defines the company’s contribution to the society, but at the same time, unethical business practices are likely to dilute the impact of CSR done by the company regardless of its stature in the industry. Keywords: CSR, excessive customer focus, unethical practices

INTRODUCTION GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (GSK) is one of the most reputed pharmaceutical companies in the world. They came into controversy regarding their sales and marketing policies in China [1]. The company is generous when it comes to giving back to the society. When the company gets into controversy, does the corporate social responsibility (CSR) help the company in defending its image and reputation in the market place. CONCEPT OF CSR CSR is about how companies manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society. For many companies who practice CSR, brings in good fortune for the company because the society gives back to such companies handsomely. It not only strengths the image of the company, it also gives good business to the company in the long run. As a result, the companies become financially stronger, more vibrant and they can do greater things for the society. In the ultimate analysis, it is the image of the company that matters to the society.

Hence, companies try and do more CSR when they get into any problems or controversy with respect to their products or services [2]. Today, organizations that want to achieve long-term success must consider what is known as the triple bottom line: economic, environmental and social. This triple bottom line is also known as the 3Ps: profit, planet and people. Corporate Social Responsibility is always a major part of any large company’s corporate planning; it gives phenomenal benefits to a company in the short run as well as long run. Moreover, CSR can have profound impact on profits, planet and people [3]. The benefits of an effective CSR approach to an organization are• Stronger performance and profitability • Improved relations with the investment community and access to capital • Enhanced employee relations and company culture • Risk management and access to social opportunities • Stronger relationships with communities and legal regulators

An Overview of the Facts Related to the Socioeconomic Status of Women in India Aakanksha Gupta* Student, Ajay Kumar Garg Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

ABSTRACT Presently, women are involved in all possible fields like politics, research, military, etc., so they are contributing in economic growth as they are moving toward employment and save their money for increasing their wealth. They depend on the income, high returns and future security. Modern women can manage the family responsibility as well as economic responsibility similarly. The women are financially comfortable, investing regularly and competent enough to understand the importance of investment and savings in their life and more concentrated toward increasing their standard of living as well. Most of the respondents can support their families as well as smoothly manage their dependents’ life with the help of their employment income. Women are the most productive part of our society, so they need to be aware of all information, and as they are working in our society for economic growth, they must be treated as equal to their counterparts in the society. Keywords: CSR, employment opportunities, organizational support, socio-economic development for women, women empowerment

INTRODUCTION Women’s roles in the society have been diversifying into multiple dimension. Earlier, women were thought to only remain confined to the domestic chores and serving the family and men were responsible to earn money and were the sole providers, but now, as more women are getting educated, they are learning that they don’t have to limit themselves to the confines of their homes and that they have equal rights to the opportunities to work as do they counterparts. In the wake of urbanization, industrialization, economic development, the accessibility to wider options are becoming a reality for the women which is not only important for the development of the country but is providing financial independence to the women. Their involvement in the political and social sphere is bringing in balance and stability to the world.

There were times once the prime role of girls was confined to her home duties. However, as times modified, the planet completes that her potential was meant to be explored in varied fields. Today’s women are performing several roles like that of an arduous worker, a shrewd boss, balancing home and work with such ease and beauty that's simply remarkably. The prosperity and growth of a nation is measured by the status and development of its women as they represent one-half of its population; however, they conjointly influence the expansion of the remaining one-half of the population. SOCIAL DISCRIMINATION AND UNDERREPRESENTATION OF WORKING WOMEN IN INDIA Women’s financial gain is usually thought of as a supplementary financial gain in the family. Typically, women’s work/domestic

Organization Development and Its Relevance in the VUCA World Sharon D’Souza* Assistant Professor, Atharva Institute of Management and Studies, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

ABSTRACT In today’s dynamic VUCA (Volatile–Uncertain–Complex–Ambiguous) World, there is a growing need for the formulation and implementation of the most effective organization development (OD) strategies and techniques for enhancing both the individual and organizational productivity. OD is an applied behavioral science domain that deploys an ever-evolving strategy used to develop the employees and functions of an organization. It is a specific, planned and continuous process that aims to increase organizational effectiveness. The pertinent area to probe is the viability and consequence of the planned OD process in an unplanned and unpredictable VUCA environment. This paper is an attempt to study the concept, significance and impact of OD in the flickering and ever transforming VUCA World. Keywords: organizational culture, organization development, organizational effectiveness, VUCA World.

INTRODUCTION The Inception and Concept of Organization Development The study of organization development (OD) can be traced back to the year 1930 when human relations study became prominent [1]. This was the era which emphasized on the influence of organizational structures and processes on worker behavior and motivation. Kurt Lewin, the founding father of OD, proposed various OD theories and practices based on group dynamics and action research that transformed OD into the influential field of Organizational Human Resource Management; it is today. Burke (1994) defined OD as a planned process of change that is brought about in an organization’s culture through the utilization of behavior science technologies, research and theory [2]. Also, Beckhard (1969) points out four most significant characteristics of an OD process, namely: • A process that is long term and thoroughly planned

• • • • •

• •

To be carried out on an organizationwide scale Managed from the top Aimed to enhance organization effectiveness through systematic interventions and techniques Beer (1980) talks about three primary goals of the O.D process: Aims to strengthen the conformity between the organization structure, processes, strategy, people and culture. For instance, a bureaucratic organization with a rigid work culture and process differs from an organization with a flexible outlook with respect to its processes, strategy and culture. Formulating and implementing innovative organizational solutions Enhancing the organization’s selfrenewing capacity

EVOLUTION OF ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT Beginning from the year 1898 to 1947, OD was introduced as a well-established
