Procurement Assessment of High-Density Polyethylene Pipe in Department of Water Supply and Sewerage, Nepal 1

Anjay Kumar Mishra1,*, Lokendra Prasad Yadav

Visiting Faculty, Management Science, Shanker Dev Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal 2 Division Chief, Water Supply and Sanitation Division Office, Saptari, Nepal

ABSTRACT High-density polyethylene pipe is a major part in procurement of Water Supply Projects in Nepal. Overall objective of this research was to analyze the procurement management analysis within Department of Water Supply and Sewerage (DWSS). The study was based on online questionnaire survey among senior employees of DWSS. The management duty assignment in contractual process seems significant for quality assurance. In DWSS, sometimes all the procurement process was made by regional offices and sent for payment to district offices. All procurement process should be made from district offices to make more responsible. Test certificates as per NS 40 should be mandatory in the frequency set by Nepal Bureau of Standards and Metrology. Office Chief and Engineer should be assigned for quality assurance. Length and weight both should be considered in procurement process. Regional laboratory for high-density polyethylene pipe testing should be established by DWSS. Transportation cost of high-density polyethylene pipe should be based on analysis of transportation from truck up to the nearest road head. High-density polyethylene pipefittings should be purchased based on the detailed drawing of pipeline network and actual need basis. Keywords: Transportation cost, bidding document, responsibility, quality

BACKGROUND The Department of Water Supply and Sewerage (DWSS) is leading organization in water supply sector. It has been facilitating to implement 1303 number (Devkota, 2013) [1] of piped water supply projects in Nepal. In FY 2069/70 about 100% of DWSS’s projects use HDPE pipes. Total budget in FY 2069/70 for these projects was NRs. 2.40 billion and total expenditure was 2.30 billion. Since, its establishment in 1972 AD, DWSS has been purchasing large amount of HDPE pipe. In FY 2069/70 the length of pipe purchased by DWSS was about 2805 km. It was quite surprising that DWSS in a history had hardly conducted any pipe test and had been using HDPE pipes without any conformity to quality by itself. In FY

2068/69, DWSS wished to test pipe quality and thus sent an official instruction to its district offices to get conformity before accepting the purchased pipes [2]. There are around twenty-four HDPE manufactures in Nepal that has been producing HDPE pipe for Water Supply Projects. The quality conformity on HDPE is governed by NS 40 and there is a provision that it should be monitored by Gunastar Tatha Naptaoul Bibhag (Nepal Bureau of Standards & Metrology-NBSM). The DWSS does not have its lab facility for HDPE pipe testing rather. It intended to use facility of NBSM, later DWSS realized that the NBSM’s capacity was not that much developed to meet the huge need of DWSS. The DWSS found that

A Study of Medicinal Supply Chain Management for Hospitals as Consumer in Uttar Pradesh State of India Sunil Kumar Mishra* Patronage Institute of Management Studies,Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India

ABSTRACT Strategies of pharmaceutical supply chain and inventory management are highly beneficial in optimization of logistic support in healthcare perspective, specifically in a hospital setup. Logistic performance of medicine is important for efficiency and quality enhancement together with financial benefits. To optimize the logistics performance of pharmaceutical supplies, various parameters should be studied including supply chain in the region, purchasing process of hospital, and medicine logistic management in the selected hospital. In this study, we have tried to identify the framework of supply of medicines in the region of Uttar Pradesh in India. Keywords: supply chain management, pharmaceutical supply, drugs, logistics, management

INTRODUCTION With respect to other supply chains in the market, medicinal supply chains are different as they have large and extended global pipelines requiring high levels of product availability with high uncertainty in supply and demand. Organizations can significantly reduce their cost and improve their performance by optimization of supply chain and logistics approaches [1–3]. The product flow or medical logistics at one hand includes the supply of pharmaceutical, medical, surgical consumables, medical devices, hygiene consumables, food supplies, equipment, and other supplementary products necessary to support doctors, nurses, and of course patients of hospitals. On the other hand, information and financial flows are related to supply chain decisions for effective product flow and organizational performance improvement. In healthcare sector, medicine management is the ability of healthcare and pharmaceutical organizations to

optimize the pharmaceuticals use [4]. The hospital pharmacy plays a vital role in patient care with pharmacy logistics processes. We studied the medicinal supply chain management for hospitals as a consumer. METHODOLOGY OF THE STUDY To understand better about the procedure of medicine supply chain management in the selected region, we surveyed in the market and tried to study the process of supply of pharmaceutical products in the selected region. For this, we tried to study the flow from manufacturing unit to the local distributors and till it reaches the customers. Further, we focused to study the purchase of medicine and its supply chain in the selected hospital. MEDICINAL SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT Process of Supply Chain When we study the supply chain process, we find that the medicines are produced in the manufacturing units and then reach the

A Study on the Growth and Success Path of Delhivery Aishwarya Johari* Student, Ajay Kumar Garg Institute of Management, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India

ABSTRACT This is the best time for the logistics companies to grow and flourish as the world is switching from retail to online shopping. Like any other business, logistics and supply chain too must go through difficult times of market turbulence, unstable economy, and unpredictable business returns. Having said that, it is the leadership and the management of an organization that helps the company sail through times like those in order to meet the expectations, forecast the market, and design a robust strategy business plan. I am going to discuss the growth path and success of one of the fastest-growing logistics companies we have today Keywords: delivery, distribution channels, shipping

INTRODUCTION The idea was originally conceived as a hyperlocal express delivery service provider for local offline stores, delivering grocery, food, etc., towards the beginning. At that time, online retail market in India was booming with investors coming in from different parts of the world. The two founder partners of Delhivery, Barua and Tandan wanted to venture full time into this booming industry looking to the rate of its expansion. Urban Touch was Delhivery’s first e-commerce client which is an online fashion retailer. Later, in 2011, Delhivery could not overlook the vast opportunities in the logistics industry and started providing logistics services to ecom companies [1]. Delhivery is not just a logistics company but it also sells technology that controls the supply chain for an online retailer. It is also a supply chain enabler. It is one of the very few logistics companies that grew exponentially in a very short span of time. We are going to go over the accomplishments, strategies, and the growth graph of Delhivery by virtue of this study. It presents learnings and inspiration

for the start-ups and the struggling firms set out to carve their names in logistics and supply management. OBJECTIVE To learn and understand the business model of Delhivery and how it has risen to be one of the top players in the country. The same has been accomplished by a detailed analysis of the company’s origin, strategies, and studying its growth path [2]. • To know about the logistics industry • To know whether the customers are satisfied with the service of Delhivery and to know its market share • To know about the problems related to the logistics segment/distribution channels, such as domestic and international segments • To seek out the prospects Delhivery was founded in May 2011 and in June same year, it launched its express logistics services in Delhi NCR. It took them months of planning, optimization and implementation to come up with their first facility. Delhivery was equipped to handle

The Importance of Customer Satisfaction in Logistics and Supply Chain Gaurav Tripathi* Senior HR, National Handloom Development Corporation Limited, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India

ABSTRACT In today’s competitive environment, the most important factor that drives a business towards success is customer satisfaction, which sets a company apart from its competitors and determines whether the customer is coming back to make the purchase again. To ensure customer satisfaction, the entire process of receiving the order to the delivery of the product needs to be tracked and overseen to maintain quality and ensure timely delivery. A dissatisfied customer has lots of other companies to choose from; hence, every logistics company needs to have a strategy to retain customers and keep them happy. Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance because it gives business owners a parameter which is used in analyzing their future success and it works like a tool to improve their business prospects. Keywords: customer satisfaction, customer retention, strategies

INTRODUCTION Right from the time of accepting the orders to the final delivery, there should be checks and balances at every stage to ensure smooth functioning. The impeccable service by the dabbawalas in Mumbai is one of the finest examples of hyperlocal delivery. There should be proper coordination among various hubs and people involved, and the routing plays an important role too. If the services are good, the customers are satisfied, and satisfied customers bring in more business, hence more revenue. IMPORTANCE OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Identify Customer’s Intentions and Loyalty The customers can be asked to rate the services on a scale of 1 to 10 and this can further be used to predict if the customer will come back to make the purchase again, or he is unhappy and likely to leave and go to another vendor or provider. If

the rating is between 9 and 10, then they are the repeat customers who will surely come back and spread a positive word of mouth. If the rating is 7 and above, it is considered satisfactory and that means that they most likely be the repeat customers. Anything below 6 is worrisome as it indicates that the customers are dissatisfied and there is a high probability that customers will leave and approach another vendor or service provider. Hence, there is a need to be watchful and take the feedback seriously and work on the suggested areas in order to retain the customers. An Edge over the Competitors In a competitive environment where there is a plethora of options for a consumer, customer satisfaction can be a key factor which distinguishes one company from another. For example, if two different companies are offering the same services at the same time then the customer will try to look for reviews to decide which service
