The Cornelia Connelly Society celebrates the loyalty of donors who have made gifts to the Mayfield Annual Fund for five or more consecutive years, and by doing so carry on the commitment to Holy Child education of the society’s foundress, Cornelia Connelly.

Victory for Mayfield at the 2022 Mustang Tailgate Benefit

The Mayfield community joyfully gathered at Spirit Field on April 30 for the 2022 Mustang Tailgate Benefit. For the nearly 400 parents, faculty, alumni, and friends in attendance, it was the first opportunity to gather as a group in more than two years.

Benefit co-chairs Mary Cole ’98 and Julie Soma and their event committee created an atmosphere for fun and festivities that included game-day hors d'oeuvres served from the back of vintage pick-up trucks, lawn games adjacent to a beer garden, and plenty of Mayfield gear that allowed partygoers to show their Mustang pride.

The Benefit is a beloved annual tradition, raising money each year for both the Mayfield Endowment and a special project based on urgent needs. The Tailgate was by all counts a victory for the home team, with the most successful paddle raise to date raising more than $140,000 to repair and replace Mayfield’s aging HVAC system. Proceeds from the silent and live auction, ticket sales, and sponsorships totaled $226,000 for the MJS Endowment, which provides annual support for salaries, tuition assistance, professional development, student programming, and more.

Giving to Mayfield Junior School

Each year, donors provide the additional resources needed to maintain Mayfield’s excellent programs. These generous contributions from our community also allow the school to plan and execute upgrades to our facilities and curriculum to “meet the wants of the age” through the years. We are grateful!

Mayfield Junior School accepts many kinds of gifts, including:

• Cash

Current cash gifts are deductible for income tax purposes to the full extend allowed by law and may be made with cash, check, or credit card.

• Appreciated Securities

A gift of appreciated stock or other capital assets can result in significant tax savings. You may be able to obtain a tax deduction for the full market value of the gift and avoid paying tax on the gain.

• Matching Gifts

Many employers will match employees’ donations, increasing the impact of a single gift and providing an additional source of income for Mayfield Junior School. Inquire with your Human Resources Department if your employer matches charitable gifts.

• Qualified Charitable Distributions

Donors who are 70 ½ or older can direct an IRA distribution directly to Mayfield. For those 72 or older who must take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), an IRA gift is a simple way to give while reducing one’s taxable income.

• Grants

Mayfield is honored to accept grants from private foundations, corporate foundations, donor-advised funds, and other grant-making organizations for unrestricted or designated purposes.

• Memorial or Honorary Gifts

A contribution in honor or memory of a loved one can be a cherished gift to an individual or family. Our sisters, faculty and staff, and students remember these special intentions in prayer at school Mass.

• Planned Gifts

Mayfield accepts planned or estate gifts of life insurance, charitable trusts, bequests, or real estate. A donor may wish to consider these gift vehicles as a way to reduce or avoid estate and inheritance taxes while making a larger impact for Mayfield. Those who choose to direct a planned gift are welcomed into the Euclid Society of donors.
