petMaxi once again took part in Portugal’s largest pet event to boost brand awareness and connect with end consumers. We also carried out a charity campaign that resulted in the donation of 1,137 meals to the Official Animal Collection Center of Loures, reinforcing our commitment to animal welfare.

FEBRUARY
We welcomed students from Ferreira do Zêzere School Group as part of the “Awakening to Employability” protocol with the Maria Dias Ferreira Foundation. Students learned about our production process and animal nutrition, inspiring interest in the pet food sector.
1st Agro Marinhais Agricultural Fair

From February 20 th to 23rd, the Campeão brand was present at the 1st Agro Marinhais Agricultural Fair, through our partner Arquimino Santos. This event, dedicated to the agricultural sector, brought together companies and producers from the region, promoting innovation and the enhancement of rural areas.

PAW WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF GOLDPET?
A Goldpet started as a hobby in 2004. At the time, our CEO, Cristóvão Francisco, was a breeder of Golden Retrievers. Focused on offering the highest quality products to his dogs, he constantly searched for the best food and accessories, keeping up with the latest trends in the market. The health, happiness, and beauty of Cristóvão’s Golden Retrievers attracted more and more people, who sought his advice and recommendations for their own pets.
Realizing he could combine his passion for animals with his growing knowledge, the idea emerged to shift from being a pet shop consumer to becoming a retailer.
He began by delivering pet food door to door, steadily winning over more customers. To stand out from the competition, he focused on high-quality products, free home deliveries— an innovation at the time—and even offered clients access to a veterinarian, promoting animal health.
As the business grew, customers began to seek more than just food. This led to the opening of the first Goldpet physical store, aiming to bring the brand closer to customers and expand the product offering.
We felt there was room for a store where each customer would feel supported and personally advised—and that’s how the first Goldpet store was born!
The public’s positive response to the first store inspired us to aim higher and set new growth goals. Given the limited reach of a single location, the solution was to launch a website that initially served only as a showcase for the physical store’s products. In 2007, the site became a fully operational online store—thus creating Portugal’s first online pet shop.
PAW IN WHICH REGIONS OF THE COUNTRY DO YOU OPERATE, AND WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN MARKET SEGMENTS?
Goldpet is present throughout the country (mainland and islands) via our online store (website and app), with 24-hour delivery. We also have 12 physical stores located in the districts of Aveiro, Leiria, Lisbon, and Porto.
Our product portfolio is diverse, covering everything from A to Z for dogs, cats, birds, rodents, reptiles, fish, and small farm animals. We offer food, litter, toys, hygiene products, accessories, antiparasitics, veterinary medicines, and supplements.
Beyond products, we provide complementary services under the brands Goldvet (veterinary clinic), Gold Pet Spa (grooming and bathing services), and Encosta dos Carvalhos (canine guesthouse).
This way, we ensure all the health and wellness care that our four-legged friends deserve.
PAW HOW MANY EMPLOYEES DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE, AND HOW HAS THE COMPANY EVOLVED?
We currently have 125 employees, distributed across departments, stores, and warehouses. Our history includes three key moments of growth:
The first big leap was the creation of the online store, which required hiring staff for website management, customer service, and order fulfillment. The physical space also expanded, as the warehouse in our only physical store at the time became insufficient.
The second pivotal moment came unexpectedly: the pandemic. COVID-19 changed the landscape of online commerce in Portugal, permanently shifting consumer behavior. Online shopping surged, and Goldpet adapted to this market trend. This boom led us to rethink all processes so we could continue growing without sacrificing service quality or delivery speed. We revised our strategies and reinforced the company with specialized human resources and new technological solutions.
Finally, the third major milestone was our physical store expansion. With new stores opening across the country, we once again had to grow our team.
PAW HOW HAS THE PARTNERSHIP WITH PETMAXI BEEN?
We’ve known petMaxi for many years, meeting them at a sector event in Braga. That’s where our partnership began, and it has grown steadily ever since.
As a proudly Portuguese company, we are delighted to work with a Portuguese manufacturer and offer national products in our stores.
PAW WHAT ARE YOUR STRATEGIC PLANS AND GOALS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE?
What we can say is that Goldpet intends to stay close to its customers, responding with quality to the market’s needs. We aim to continue innovating, offering an even more agile and personalized service, with clear advantages for those who want to provide the best for their pets.

We are working on optimizing processes and investing in more sustainable technology to reduce waste.
PAW WHAT ROLE DOES TECHNOLOGY PLAY IN YOUR BUSINESS?
Technology has been essential for our growth and continuous improvement. It is present in every area of the company, from our e-commerce platforms to our inventory management system, helping make our service more efficient and the customer experience smoother.
PAW WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES THE COMPANY FACES TODAY?
This is a growing business sector. There are more and more pets in Portuguese households, and thankfully, pet owners are increasingly attentive to their animals’ needs.
However, like any expanding industry, competition is intensifying, and with that comes the challenge of standing out. Our biggest challenge is to continue growing with quality and innovation while ensuring maximum customer satisfaction in a market increasingly constrained by price wars that shrink margins and leave little room for profitability.
Our commitment remains firm: to bring happiness and well-being to pets by maintaining service quality and customer satisfaction.
We invest in research, team training, and technology. However, this path can only be walked with the support of our partners, so that together, we can educate the market and provide high-quality products at fair prices.
