The 70th Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City was always going to be special. It marked, not only a milestone for Porsche enthusiasts everywhere, but also, the 70th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America. For Zone 5 Representative Wendy Shoffit, that meant extra responsibility—and extra heart poured into making sure the event was a success.
Wendy knew that for many Mavericks, Parade was an unknown event, and for others, overwhelming when it came to what to do. Wanting to make sure everyone felt prepared, she hosted two Zoom calls (open to all Zone 5 Members), and organized two separate casual dinner meetings and helped Linda Bambina organize the dinner meetings. These gatherings helped members understand what to expect, how to register, how to get involved, and—most importantly—got them excited about celebrating PCA’s 70th year together.
A firm believer that Parade only works when everyone pitches in, Wendy encouraged Mavericks to sign up for volunteer shifts. Her efforts paid off, as members stepped up to keep events running smoothly.
For Wendy, Parade was more than work—it was a family experience. The Shoffits brought four cars to Oklahoma City and spent over a week immersed in Parade. The family’s dedication showed in the results. Once again, Wendy took to the track in the autocross and won her class, adding a personal victory to her long list of contributions and achievements.
Much of Wendy’s impact was behind the scenes, where her hard work quietly made the Parade shine. She composed

President
and ran the banquet dinner slideshows—making sure winners and presentations flowed seamlessly across multiple evenings. She also coordinated volunteers for the 70 Parade signs presentation, adding a special touch to the anniversary celebrations.
Her contributions extended to projects years in the making. Wendy spent two years preparing the PCA Through the Decades display, showcasing club badges from across PCA’s history. Wendy assisted PCA Historian Linda Goodman preparing the PCA Through the Decades display.
Wendy wasn’t afraid to try something new. She stepped up to help with the Sunday Welcome Presentation, a role she had never taken on before. She also partnered with her daughter’s friend Tori to produce a documentary video at their own expense—ensuring this special Parade was preserved for years to come.
When an urgent need arose, Wendy delivered. With just an hour’s notice, she managed to print all the insurance waivers needed for tours and other events—an effort that kept Parade activities on track.
The 70th Porsche Parade was filled with memorable cars, competitive spirit, and celebrations of Porsche’s legacy; however, it was also defined by the people who made it happen. Wendy Shoffit’s tireless efforts, leadership, and personal touch ensured that Parade wasn’t just an event—it was an experience that members will cherish.
Her work behind the wheel, behind the scenes, and behind the spirit of the Mavericks showed what makes PCA thrive: passion; community; and dedication.

The participation in Porsche Parade activities by Maverick Region members was on display at the Concours. While several members have been in the PCA for several decades, others joined in the last five years. There were eight cars entered by Mavericks among the 62 cars in the field. The results were impressive, with three gaining second in their class, three taking first, AND one Maverick entrant taking Best Overall. Here are the details.
Raul Peña 2004 Boxster. See sidebar.
second place:
Lesley and Keith Clayton 1990 964 Carrera 2
Keith became the third owner of this car in June 2024 after a tip off from detailer-extraordinaire Andy Kay. It was brought to McKinney, Texas from California by the previous owner, who purchased it in Palo Alto in 1998.
The car was well-kept, so Keith and his nine year old son, Cy, continued to maintain the car in top condition. Cy was charged with preparation for the Concours, doing a detail at home and, again, after the drive to OKC. Cy’s hard work was rewarded in a very competitive class.
The 964 was THE 911 for Keith, falling in love with the Turbo version in the movie Bad Boys. Cy has his sights set on his dad’s car, and told Keith he will be ready to drive it when he gets his license. That is to be expected, as his mother’s daily driver is a 718 Cayman GTS with a manual transmission, moving to that from a Macan.
Angela and Trevor James 2017 911 Turbo S
In the highly competitive field of nine cars in the 991/992 Preparation Group II – Touring Class, the Jameses’ Miami Blue Turbo S stands out from the crowd; not just because of its rare and striking color with its unique Espresso interior that attracted them to it three and half years ago, but also because of its preparation. It underwent an exhaustive preparation for the Maverick Region Concours in May, receiving a paint correction and having every cm2 covered with a fine-tooth comb. Amazingly, the car made the 2,000+ mile trip to the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina with a group of Mavericks in June, and it only required a touch up to prepare it for the Concours.
Trevor believes the judges were impressed by the car’s condition after learning how much “hard driving” it undergoes on enthusiast tours, having made the trek to Boxstoberfest, Pick-Yer-Tour weekend, and multiple trips to both the Dragon Rally and PCA Palooza, where it won the 991 Peoples’ Choice award in 2024.
The engine was tuned to make over 750 hp on normal gas (10.11 seconds @ 141.2 mph in the ¼ mile). Trevor sought to create an OEM+ type build - a less gentlemanly 911 harkening back to the motorsport-focused Turbo models before there were GT cars. Anyone that has seen this car in motion knows he nailed it! The Jameses recently acquired a Chalk 2022 Cayenne Turbo S that they plan to show and tour in the future.
Trevor’s advice: If you're on the fence about showing a car with miles at Parade Concours, don't be!
Don Yount (with Dave Garrett) 1966 Carrera 6 race car (aka 906)
Don entered two of his Porsche race cars in the Preservation class. Both are incredible examples, and you can find more information on each of them in the April/May 2025 edition of Slipstream.
Ironically, the 906 received deductions for the condition of its paint despite competing in the Preservation Class. Riddle me that, Batman! PCA officials were so enthralled to see this car that they shot a video with it on the streets of OKC after the Concours ended.
place:
Don Yount (with Dave Garrett) 1967 911 S/R
As mentioned above, you can find information on this car in the April/May 2025 Slipstream. The car has an extremely unique history of being converted from a 911S by the factory racing division when its “twin,” the 911R Chassis 002R that was promised to the purchaser, was being used by Vic Elford as a factory-sponsored race car in the fall rally season. Don rescued it after finding it in a shipping container behind a “strip center” on Northwest Highway. As a Preservation Class entrant, Dave Garrett cleaned both cars to prepare them for the Concours. Dave maintains them in perfect order so that Don can drive these cars with gusto, taking them to the track and competing in vintage racing events.
For more on the 911R, see https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/history/ porsche-911-r-geneva-motorshow-racing-history-12282.html.
Julia and Greg Cleath 1973 911T Targa
If this car is nearby, you won’t miss it. With its custom shade of green and tartan interior, this wonderfully restored car is a standout! Originally Gemini Blue and left to molder in storage for 16 years, it underwent a five-year bare-metal restoration, with Werks 11 (based in Troy, Texas) handling the body and interior, and Innovative Autosports tackling the suspension and mechanicals, building a “very spirited,” numbers-matching RS Spec 2.7l dual-plug engine with electronic fuel injection and electronic engine control of the coil-on-plug conversion.
The Preparation Group 1, Sport Group, F Bodies was also a very competitive class to compete. However, with its fairly recent restoration, a lot of hours of hours washing, buffing, cleaning, and re-cleaning kept the Cleath’s car in Concours condition in the time since it garnered the People’s Choice award in its category at the 2023 Founders’ Day Concours.
While the Cleaths also have a 1964 356C Coupe, a 2024 911, and a 2021 Macan, the ’73 Targa has been a labor of love that has provided extensive enjoyment in bringing it back to life and building upon a car that was fading away, locked in a garage.
Jennifer and Kevin Kaley
2009 Cayenne GTS 6-Speed Manual
For many PCA members, there was a gateway car that took them on a pathway into a new “hobby.” For Kevin Kaley, it was a 2004 Carmon Red Metallic Boxster. Although it wasn’t entered in any competitions, it led to purchasing another unique Porsche, the Kaleys’ gorgeous 2009 Cayenne GTS, in GTS Red with a full Leather Havanna interior with Alcantara, PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control), and a manual transmission. With its low production numbers (342 manuals coming to the US), it seems inevitable that it would compete in Concours and with great success!
After winning its class the 2024 Maverick Concours (the Cayenne, Taycan, Macan, Panamera class) it also received Best In Show at the 2025 Maverick Concours held in May. Lots of preparation followed to get it ready for the Porsche Parade Concours: up to five hours each day for about a week and half (no weekends), working from inside to the outside, from the back to the front, before receiving a final wash.
At Parade, it took first in its Class, 2003-2011 Cayenne/Panamera, Preparation Group 1, Touring Group, and as a result, it was eligible to compete for the Overall Preparation Group 1 award, in which it took first over five others!
While the Cayenne has been enjoyable to drive, Kevin has found that it gets driven less and less since he started entering the cars in Concours event. It does make it to local coffee gatherings, and the Boxster makes an occasional appearance.

During the Parade Concours, I had the unique experience of meeting Hans-Peter Porsche, Grant Larson, and Nathan Merz. They were, literally, all together at my car. It was the unique intersection of the Porsche carmaker family, the famous Boxster designer, and tech expert/car dealer of my first-generation 1998 Boxster.
I had visited with Nathan earlier in the day about the Boxster that he had sold to my good friend, who had, in turn, sold it to me. Later in the afternoon, Nathan, Grant Larson, and Hans-Peter Porsche were walking through the Concours and stopping along the way. With the help of Suzy Merz and Scott Kellogg, they graciously stopped and visited with me, and the below unfolded. Only at Parade would this be possible!
(Ed. note – Raul’s car scored 0.4 points less than the winning car in the category in which it was entered. The winning car is owned by a member who has served as a Concours judge for many years and has entered the winning car in Concours for nearly two decades. PCA awards only the first place trophy when there are one or two cars competing. While Raul’s Boxster did not garner a prize in the competition as the second place car, the autograph is of far greater value!)

There were over 200 Mavericks who attended the Porsche Parade this year, and many opted to compete in the many and varied events that make the Parade so much fun.
From almost the very beginning, the Parade has consisted of four main competitive events: the Concours d’Elegance, the TSD Rally, the Autocross, and the Technical and Historical Quiz. Over the years, though, more events have become part of the week, with some attracting more entrants than the original four.
Here are the results from all of the Parade events in which Maverick Region members participated.

Fifty-seven Parade entrants tested their knowledge of Porsche technical details, history, and PCA history with this 75-question multiple-choice test. Scores are weighted two different ways. For class awards, the 25 model-specific questions count three times as much as the generic questions. For overall awards, the 50 generic questions count three times as much as the model-specific questions. This year, two Mavericks competed:

Julia Underwood, 88 points, 1st in class (trophy)

Congratulations to all of our Parade 2025 Maverick competitors!
How many of you returned home from the 2025 Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City saying you had so much fun that you’d attend another? We felt that way after experiencing our first Parade, and next time, we’re bringing the pup since we’re confident she’ll like it too. From all the pre-Parade prep to assistance on premises, we thank Wendy Shoffit and Linda Bambina for their valuable guidance. Their suggestions, from keeping an organized schedule to optimizing your Parade experience by volunteering, proved incredibly helpful.
On July 26, a steamy Saturday morning, about a dozen Mav ladies pulled up to The Shop Club’s north side parking lot to gather under tents for a presentation from women with careers in the auto industry. Two sweet vehicles sat next to the tents piquing our curiosity. We simply showed up without knowing what to expect and were thankful when we moved indoors and upstairs.
We ordered food and drinks from the bar and listened to women speak about their automotive passions and careers. Stacy Rivers of Jesse’s Performance spoke first. She works with her husband handling marketing, event coordination, and other office responsibilities. She’s a drag racer who promotes females in the industry via social media. Her top female-focused tips: be supportive and be informed. Next, Stacy introduced Brittni Stangl of Brittni’s Automotive Repair in Haslet. Brittni led an informative tech talk on brakes. She showed us how they test brake fluid, passed around brake pads with different amounts of wear, and skillfully answered a few of our questions.
LB MotorSports is a powder coating company owned by our third speaker, Lacey Blair. Besides being a motorsports enthusiast creating truck and racing content, the trucks she takes to her burnout shows are her own – painted, powder-coated, and built by
her. She shared her experiences with Resurrected Rides, Burnout Wars, and her YouTube channel.
Tiana Webber of Accelerated Auto Solutions is a 10-year shop owner. She was born and raised in the industry and has been involved in the Netflix show, Fastest Car, comparing built vs. bought.
Lastly, we enjoyed listening to a few words from two MWBTW members. Val Swope, co-owner of Dallas Off-Road, handles marketing, merchandising, and event coordination for the area’s oldest sponsored shop for the North Texas Jeep Club. They do general maintenance and lift kits for Macans and Cayennes. Kandy Robertson, award-winning social media expert, author, and CEO of iKandyland Inc., concluded the afternoon by sharing some of her expertise.
All the women presenters generously provided some swag and raffled off prizes. Some of our winners included Patsy Sutherland, Pat Gouldy, Laura Hutton, Rebecca Low, and Jamille Thomas.
In the previous issue of Slipstream, I mentioned bucket lists. Perhaps, learning to fire a weapon was on somebody’s list. To keep our cost at $100 per person, the class fell on a not-too-busy Monday afternoon, August 11, at Texas Legends Gun Range in Allen. The experience, scheduled from 2-5 pm, lasted until nearly 7 pm. Of the 15 women who attended the event, chiefly organized by Pier Burgess, a few brought their own firearms, and a few others had previous experience with firearms. At least half the class had never fired a gun before.
Following a 90-minute introductory and safety presentation by Firearms Instructor John Holderman, we split into two groups and put our education to test in the well-airconditioned range. Our instructor provided 25 rounds and a 22-caliber handgun for each of us.
Participants performed
exercises as directed, shooting at a round target at two distances –three feet and seven feet.
When not on the range, we returned to the classroom for snacks after washing our hands with soap and cold water – a tip that made perfect sense (warm water opens the pores, and one doesn’t want lead residue penetrating the skin.)
An urban survival awareness briefing concluded our afternoon. Director of Education and Training Gregory Taggart began with “No one wants to be a victim.” He spoke of trouble arising from denial, lengthy deliberation, and missing the decisive moment. One slide – the OODA loop – was common sense but useful to hear: observe, orient, decide, and act. Read that again and really think about it in an uncomfortable situation you may have experienced. He suggested that everyone should carry a mini flashlight, stressing that the one on most of our phones is useless, especially when it wears out the battery. Besides lighting our way, shining a bright light into an assailant’s eyes can affect his or her vision and give you time to get away. A short discussion on pepper spray also ensued, and he recommended the sticky and strong Sabre brand gel as his favorite.
Angela James and her daughter, Sydria, hosted MWBTW’s second Bunco gathering on Saturday, August 16. Twelve of us enjoyed Angela’s scrumptious rum cake and a wide range of yummy dishes brought by participants. Pat Gouldy, Lana Mangold, and Judy Brolick won the summer door prizes selected by Sydria. Pier Burgess won the most wins while Judy Brolick won the most Buncos. Sydria seemed pleased to collect her $10 back for most losses.
What you may not know is that we contact the Hope Shelter annually to see what items they may need. We chose the Bunco event to begin collecting cleaning items to donate in November.
Please join us for some of our most fun events of the year

Our first Porsche Parade was in 2000 in Sacramento, California. It was the 45th Parade. We’ve only missed one since then, besides the Covid cancellation in 2020. This year’s Parade, held in Oklahoma City, was our 24th Parade. The locations have changed every year, and we’ve only been to the same one twice so far (French Lick, 2015 and 2021). Next year, Porsche Parade will take place in Lake Placid, NY, and the following year will be Boise, ID, a repeat for us. We first went to Boise for the 2002 Parade, and I was amazed how lovely a town it was and how friendly and welcoming the people are.
The Parade committee knew this year’s location might not be as desirable a location as others (like Monterey, CA for example), so there was an expectation that attendance would be lower than normal. They weren’t wrong, but thanks to the turnout from Zone 5, which includes Maverick Region, it wasn’t a total bust. Over the prior three years, the average number of entrants + co-entrants has been about 1,950, with 60 from Zone 5, including 20 Mavericks. This year, however, the Parade had 1,261 total registered (entrants + co-entrants), 541 from Zone 5, with 185 Mavericks. When you include all family members and guests, there were 1,392 total, 689 from Zone 5, with 226 Mavericks. So, you can see just how big an impact we had on this year’s event!
Those who were in attendance at the first Sunday evening’s Zone gatherings and Welcome Party witnessed the results of a fun wager that PCA Juniors Chair Heather Briggs and I had with PCA’s Executive Director, Vu Nguyen. Back in the spring at a national meeting, Vu challenged us to get 200 members from Zone 5. If we did, he would wear an outfit of our choosing! Obviously, from the numbers above, Zone 5 knocked it out if the park! Once we knew we had it in the bag, Heather and I put our heads together and had some fun. True to his word, Vu donned the outfit we picked and had a bit of fun himself! A lot of folks were left scratching their heads wondering why Vu looked like an OU Sooner cheerleader on steroids!
I’m not sure about you, but Oklahoma City surprised me! Being a diehard Texan, I hadn’t had a high opinion of OKC going in, but, boy, was I wrong! The city rolled out the welcome mats and treated us to a wonderful time. The Omni Hotel was a great center hub of activities for us, and those who got out and about learned what the city had to offer. I think it wasn’t just my opinion that changed about OKC. I’ll be happy to go back as a tourist and take in an event put on by the local PCA War Bonnet Region.
How many of you plan to attend next year’s event in Lake Placid, NY? It should be an amazing time, with a whole lot of people. Probably a little fewer from our Region and Zone, but we can still make the long drive and have a great time together! Now that so many of you have experienced Porsche Parade and how fun it can be, let’s GO!
By Wendy Shoffit, Zone 5 Representative
If you happened to attend the Concours at the Porsche Parade in Oklahoma City, you would have passed a collection of cars as you walked into the Pavilion. The sun was blaring and I couldn't tell what was the color of these cars. Frankly, looking at them kind of hurt your eyes. Were they some shade of white? Light purple? Pinkish?
The next day, we would better understand exactly what color these cars were, along with their significance.
Let’s start with the name of the color: Moonstone. Incredibly, a very rare Porsche color. As a matter of fact, between the 911 (G-Series), 924, and 928 models, there are only 223 cars painted in Moonstone worldwide.
Now the story gets even better. We noticed there would be a presentation of these rare cars at Midtown Autohaus one afternoon, just minutes away from the Omni Hotel, aka Parade HQ. Shortly after we walked in, I met Justin Roeser, who just happens to own three of the five cars being showcased. As it turns out, Justin has been tracking down Moonstone cars, literally around the world, for years. This is no hobby - this is his life's passion.

If you have any changes that you would like to make to the
This interview originally ran in the December 2017 issue of Slipstream. In the previous issue I introduced you to Jack and M.L., beginning with how they met at a party through how M.L. introduced Jack to racing. Keep in mind this was 1983-84, two guys from small towns, having the time of their lives racing some of the best circuits in America. Little did they ever expect where this was going to take them. Since nearly two THOUSAND of you have joined Maverick Region since this was last published, here is the “rest of the story” in my series of “conversations” I would like to share with you . . .
M.L. Speer, member since 2011, Owner 2010 GT3
Jack Griffin, member since 1987, Owner 1955 356 Continental and a few more
Bill Kruder: So M.L., when we last spoke, we never touched upon a couple of your very big accomplishments in racing. I think one involved A.J. Foyt?
M.L. Speer: Well, going into the last race, the Finale (Thanksgiving weekend 1983), I was trailing A.J. Foyt in points for the Daytona Cup but somehow I was able to snatch the victory from Foyt.
BK: And besides the obvious, beating the likes of A.J., why was this race so significant?
M.L.: Finishing higher than Foyt in that race meant I had also won the Daytona Cup ('83), which was awarded to the driver that accumulated the most points for the three Daytona races.
BK: Wow, and yet I think there is one more very cool distinction you have involving Ferry Porsche?
M.L.: True, 1983 was a very good year for me in racing, as I also finished 7th in the Porsche Cup challenge and went to Stuttgart, where I was recognized at the Porsche factory by Ferry Porsche. What a fantastic experience.
BK: And here I thought we were going to get to the good stuff starting in Le Mans, 1984! So now that I bring that up, let’s get started. Did you plan on one day racing there?
M.L.: No I never dreamed of driving Le Mans, but as luck would have it, Union Oil and Buick approached us to run the March/Buick at Le Mans, as we were an American team with an American engine and would be the only team running an American engine in the race.
BK: So I’ve heard Davidson Real Estate was involved with your Le Mans effort in 1983.
M.L.: Oh yes! Davidson Real Estate was one of our primary sponsors, and that company, as well as the race,
were promoted on billboards in Dallas and in the press. That year the Starck Club was opening in Dallas, and Davidson rented the club for a send-off party for us to go to Le Mans. It was quite a social function and a good send off for us to try and conquer Le Mans.
BK: So Jack, you were part of this team?
M.L.: No, Jack and I had been racing together, and I just thought, heck, if you would like to come with us, why not?
Jack Griffin: Yes, M.L. just said “Hey, we are going to Le Mans, so how ‘bout you come along and you can hang out in the pits with us.” He added “. . . be sure to bring your driving suit so you will look like you fit in.”
M.L.: Well actually I was thinking if he looked the part, he might have a shot with the girls (laughing).
BK: But the story gets better for Jack?
M.L.: Oh, it sure does! He landed a ride with a French team who needed another driver. The Bussi Rondeau team was looking and I told them I know a big time American driver named Jack Griffin.
JG: Oh yes, big time all right! I had raced in all of four races, but I said “Strap me in!” (laughing)
BK: But there was one problem, unbeknownst to the French?
M.L.: Well one slight detail we left out was that he didn’t have the required license to race, since this required a Grade B (one step below Formula 1 Grade A).
JG: Details (laughing). So M.L. talks with someone back in the states with IMSA, they ask a few questions, and sure enough I get my Grade B license to drive Le Mans.
BK: So tell me about the car?
JG: Well it was Rondeau, a private constructor Group C prototype, powered by Cosworth. Heck, they WON overall at Le Mans in 1980.
BK: And M.L. what about your car?
M.L.: Ken Madren, Wayne Pickering, and myself drove the March 84G Buick prototype. We had a good qualifying run but we retired after 11 hours with engine failure.
BK: And I understand that engine had some real significance in the future of U.S. racing?
M.L.: Yes, we were the team that was testing the Buick turbo engine that was the forerunner to the engines Buick used in its Indianapolis 500 project. These engines were the two fastest qualifiers at Indy in 1985.
BK: Now I’ve heard that after years of you two racing there was one more race that put you in the same car?
JG: Yes, apparently M.L. was a glutton for punishment, as I was invited back to race with the Bussi Rondeau team, and I included M.L. in the driver lineup for the ‘85 Le Mans race.
M.L.: Jack and I co-drove with Christian Bussi in the ‘85 24 Hours of Le Mans, and we had a suspension failure in the fifth hour of the race. The left front suspension broke loose from the chassis in the right hand corner after the Mulsanne Straight. I was able to get the car back to the pits, but the damage was not able to be repaired so we were out of the race.
And there you have it: two guys whose paths ordinarily never would have crossed, but cross they did. Jack, who only wanted to “try” racing at a DE, and M.L., whose goal was to finish one IMSA race in 1977 and would walk away a happy man. I think we could agree that this might be the true meaning of “Driving Friendships.”

Congratulations to Jeff Wheeler, our newest Most Valuable Mav! Jeff joined the club in 2023 after purchasing a 2015 Base Cayman, later upgrading to a 2017 Cayman S. Since then, he’s become a familiar and friendly face at PlaNoPoCo, earning the nickname PlaNoPoCo Ambassador for the warm welcome he extends to every new member.
Jeff often shares his passion with his daughter Lindsey, who recently joined the fun with her 2010 Boxster and who is also a regular at PlaNoPoCo events. Their enthusiasm for Porsche and the club community makes them a true Porsche family—and we’re lucky to have them.
Congrats, Jeff, and thank you for embodying the spirit of the Mavericks!
The Most Valuable Maverick receives a $100 gift card that is good for parts, service, or boutique items, courtesy of Porsche Plano, the official sponsor of our Most Valuable Maverick program.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bryan Henderson, who departed this life on August 31, 2025 at the age of 78. Bryan was an important part of PCA Club Racing, having served as a Scrutineer, a Steward, Chief Steward, Club Racing Chair, and Mentor over a period of years beginning in 1996 through 2019. Additionally, Bryan was a competitive driver in his E-class 911SC and coached many drivers in the program.
Bryan spent his years devoted to family, the racing community, and the pursuit of a life welllived. He will be remembered for his patience with disgruntled drivers, his calm demeanor in the tower, his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to PCA Club Racing. Bryan is survived by wife Patricia and his daughter Kelly, as well as many friends who will mourn his loss deeply.
A memorial service celebrating Bryan’s life took place in September 2025. You can find his obituary here: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/grapevine-tx/bryan-henderson-12505726

Restomodding 911s, specifically 964 911s, has become a popular niche market. While Singer has become the best known purveyor, its waitlist of more than four years has allowed for many others to emerge. These companies offer different levels of customization, and like a great Saville Row tailor, Theon Design is a British shop that provides a completely bespoke product. During a family trip to London in June of 2022, Jeff Wilson took his family to see the Theon workshop outside of Oxford. While he expected a cursory 30-minute tour, the Wilsons were met by owner Adam Hawley, and the tour turned into an halfday session as they discussed the philosophy of the car and the design and construction process, as well as the full level of customization that could be achieved. Those few hours grew into a two-year journey as Theon’s first commission for the US was conceived.
It took a few months to locate an accident-free 964 before Jeff purchased a C4S from Oregon. He drove the 964 for a few months to get a feel for the car while he planned additional details: color and engine displacement, among others. When Theon was ready to put the car into their system, it made the process seamless, arranging for the car to be picked up from Jeff’s house and delivered to Oxford. Eventually, it would be stripped down to the steel frame, repainted to keep it from rusting, and carbon panels were attached before it was painted, rewired, and the suspension and mechanicals were installed prior to the interior.
Over the next year and half, additional details were ticked off, from fully custom gauges of Jeff’s design to seat selection, including bolster sizes, fabric selection, door cards, to the design of the sound system with its one-off speaker grills, to the design of the dash and center console. No item was left out – from what one sees upon opening the door to the interior of the frunk, every item was selected. If Jeff suggested something that Theon had not done before, such as having the entire door sill made in exposed carbon, several mock-ups were
made to determine the best solution. These were shared during video meetings, by email, or through a package sent from the factory to his home. At Jeff’s suggestion, a control knob was developed and added to the steering column to the determine the response of the electronic throttle. It has become part of the option package that Theon now offers.
The car became something of a media sensation. It was displayed at Blenheim Palace in August of 2024 during the Salon Prive, and it was shipped to Los Angeles in February for a two-week media tour. Wearing a livery of many layered and finely sanded Midnight Blue paint that reflects like a mirror, it also has accent stripes and white Porsche lettering on the bottom of the door. Upon opening the door, one sees the exposed carbon sill with a white strip and the notation of USA 001, Midnight Blue and white seats with thick bolsters and deviated stitching, and matching door cards. Aluminum race pedals are matched by an aluminum floor panel for the passenger, and complimentary door openers and lock mechanism. One might mistake it for a perfectly restored long hood, or “F” body, 911.
When the car completed at the end of 2024, Jeff was eager for it to arrive in Dallas. Having been immersed in “modern” Porsches (2005 997 C2S, 2015 Turbo, and a 2018 GT3) and racing a Spec Boxster to become National Champion with the most wins in a single season (victories in 21 of 23 races), Jeff was immediately thrilled by having the modern conveniences in a car with the analog feel of an air-cooled car. At 2,500 lbs when fully wet, the carbon-bodied car’s 4.0l engine delivering 405 hp and 340 lbs/ft of torque has a power:weight ratio equal to the 992 GT3.
The only thing that is different from what Jeff expected is how he will drive it. Rather than using it most days, it is more of a special event when he drives it due to his deeper appreciation of the artistry to create it. It is truly a spectacular car!

It’s not just the cars, it’s the people. Once again, the Maverick Region came together to support families facing the unimaginable challenge of pediatric cancer.
On Saturday, August 23, 37 Maverick members gathered at the Wipe Out Kids’ Cancer (WOKC) offices to hand write personal notes of encouragement to pediatric cancer patients. These heartfelt messages were placed in special Buddy Bags—care packages filled with comfort items such as blankets, pillows, toiletries, books, games, and even electronic tablets. For many families who are told to rush their child straight to the hospital after diagnosis, these Buddy Bags provide much-needed essentials and a touch of hope during an overwhelming time.
After writing their notes, Mavericks worked together to assemble the Buddy Bags, which will soon be delivered to children’s hospitals throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. WOKC’s Buddy Bag Program has also expanded to hospitals in San Antonio, New Jersey, and Los Angeles, where bags were sent to families affected by the wildfires. Beyond Buddy Bags, WOKC also helps fund groundbreaking pediatric cancer research in Dallas, New Jersey, Boston, and Seattle.
Adding a little extra fun to the day, Maverick Region members entered a drawing for a football autographed by Jason Witten. Congratulations to Michael Hays for taking home the prize! A special thank you goes to professional photographer Daniel Dallacasa for capturing the spirit of this event so beautifully.

Challenge Cup Event 5 of the 2025 Autocross Season brought us back to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. It was hot and partly cloudy, with high winds that gave us a few issues with the digital timing system, but they were just part of the day. The course designer gave us a very fast and flowing course. A total of 111 drivers (11 in Porsches) had six timed runs to get their quickest time. The Novice Class results are always by the Performance Index (PAX) as 28 different cars from various classes compete in that category.
Challenge Cup Event 6 returned for the first of two consecutive events on the excellent concrete parking lot at Burleson High School Stadium. Of course it was hot, and we had to keep an eye on a few participants not drinking enough water. Despite the heat, everyone had a good day. The course designer gave us fast, curvy straights, followed by tight U-turns that tested the cars’ acceleration and the drivers’ trail-braking talents. Ninety-three participants (11 in Porsches) each took six timed runs to find their fastest clean run. The final three events will also be at Lone Star Park on October 19 (date change), November 9, and December 7. Everyone got six timed runs. Full Results can be found at https://autocross.com

Hello Race Fans: By the time you read this, the 2025 IMSA series will likely be completed, and the WEC will be having its season finale in Bahrain. Let’s take a look at both series and recap Porsche’s 963 performances at the ¾ mark of the season.
IMSA: Porsche had a dominant start to the season with the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. The #7 Porsche 963 (Nasr/Tandy/Vanthoor) won the race, with the #6 car finishing third, securing podiums for both factory entries. Onto the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring; another stellar showing for the 963. The #7 and #6 Porsche respectively claimed a one-two finish, underlining Porsche’s early-season dominance. The expectation to win continued at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach with the Penske #7 team of Nasr and Tandy taking the win for the third consecutive time! Traveling north to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Porsche Penske Motorsport notched their fourth consecutive victory, sweeping the top two positions. This time the #6 car with Campbell/Jaminet took the top spot on the podium, and the #7 of Nasr/Tandy was just one step below. By Round 5 at the Detroit Grand Prix, Porsche had continued success albeit just missing the top two spots; the #6 earned third place, while #7 placed fourth. This allowed them to retain their lead in both the Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ championships. Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen proved more challenging due to Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustments. The 963s were the heaviest and least powerful machines on track. The #7 car retired, while the #6 finished fourth. Despite the challenges, Porsche is still holding on to the GTP championship lead.
gTp Team standings through Watkins glen:
WEC: At the season opener in Doha, Qatar, Porsche’s 963s struggled out of the gate. The Penske Hyper Class machines finished 7th and 14th, and customer team Proton placed 15th. At Imola, BoP changes were made, resulting in little improvement, with the factory (Penske) cars finishing 8th and 11th. In Belgium at the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the struggles continued with 9th, 12th, and a DNF. Hoping to repeat results from the days of the 919, Penske fielded three Porsche 963s for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Penske celebrated a valiant 2nd place finish with the #6 963, while the two other factory cars finished 6th and 8th. Next up at the Six Hours of São Paulo, Penske was able to manage both a 3rd and 4th place result after overtaking a strong BMW Team.
In summary, Porsche is absolutely dominant in the IMSA series, leading virtually every championship category (manufacturers, teams, drivers), with a strong win streak and consistent podiums—even under BoP pressure. However, in WEC, the Hypercar class has been challenging for the Porsche factory entries, with mixed results and fewer podiums.
