History of Joinville is strongly marked by industrialization, and since the foundation of the city, many industries have distinguished themselves, and represented the city in Brazil and abroad. Some of these industries still work, others are just memories. Among these, it is the Arp Knitting Mill. Founded in the early 20th century, it carries the name of the german millionaire Julius Arp, who came to Joinville to hunt butterflies, and met the owner of a factory of socks. Arp bought the company and founded the Knitting Mill. Situated in Dr. Marinho Lobo Street, the building today is a Mall, which retained the characteristics of the factory, including the chimney. Die Geschichte von Joinville ist stark durch die Industrialisierung geprägt. Seit der Stadtgründung zeichnete sie sich durch die Branchenvielfalt aus und vertrat die Stadt in Brasilien und im Ausland. Einige dieser Firmen produzieren heute noch. Die Firma Strumpfwaren Arp existiert heute nicht mehr. Sie wurde im frühen 20. Jahrhundert gegründet und nach dem deutschen Millionär Julius Arp benannt, der in
Joinville auf Schmetterlingsfang war und den Besitzer eines Sockenunternehmens traf. Er kaufte dessen Firma und gründete die Strumpffirma. Auf der Straße Dr. Lobo Marinho gelegen, beherbergt sie heute eines der Einkaufszentren der Stadt, das die Wahrzeichen des Gebäudes erhalten hat, darunter den Schornstein. A história de Joinville é fortemente marcada pela industrialização, e desde a fundação da cidade, muitas indústrias se sobressaíram e representaram a cidade no Brasil e no exterior. Algumas ainda produzem, outras ficaram apenas na memória. Entre as segundas, encontra-se a Malharia Arp. Criada no início do século XX, leva o nome do milionário alemão Julius Arp, que veio a Joinville caçar borboletas, e conheceu o dono de uma empresa de meias. Comprou tal empresa e fundou a malharia. Instalada na rua Dr. Marinho Lobo, a construção hoje abriga um dos shoppings centers da cidade, que conservou as características do prédio, inclusive a chaminé.
