O PROMOTE RECOVERY in the workplace

Behavioral health has a major impact on construction company performance, including productivity, quality, risk management, safety, and ultimately profitability. Traditional approaches to addressing behavioral health in the workplace have not yielded improvements in care seeking among employees.

Drug-Free workplace policies and drug testing protocols set minimum expectations for workplace conduct. However, these policies and protocols have limitations, including creating stigma that creates barriers to workers seeking help for substance misuse and substance use disorder. Companies embracing the Recovery-Ready Workplace movement recognize that creating a stigma-free environment can provide pathways for recovery for workers and families seeking to address substance use, misuse, and substance use disorder.

A panel of subject matter experts will be assembled to help share key insights on building a recovery-ready workforce culture. Selected representatives from the following professions and/or organizations will include legal, Employee Assistance Program, addiction treatment and recovery counselor or peer support specialist, and/ or community-based organizations.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Consider Five Key Limitations of Drug-Free Workplace Policies and Testing Protocols.

• Understand Addiction as a Treatable Chronic Health Condition that Affects Every Demographic and Touches Nearly Every Family.

• Use the No Shame Pledge to Overcome Stigma of Substance Misuse and How to Break Down Barriers to Expand Care Seeking in the Workplace.

• Learn How to Talk to Employees and Share Resources About Addiction Treatment and Recovery.
