SNOW HAPPENS

Hopefully we will soon see the flowers of Spring, but until then we need to remember a few things about the Winter weather.

TRASH TIPS

• Garbage and Recyclables can not be put out before 5PM on the day before pickup.

• Make sure there is no trash in the green Recycle Can. If there is garbage in the can, it will not be picked up.

• If you need another green recycle can, they are available at the Borough Office for $18.

• Residents are allowed 4 bags/cans of trash each week. If you have more, you can purchase Bag Tags at the Borough Office for $8.

• A single large item can be placed with your trash each week. Items containing FREON must have the chemicals professionally removed before disposal.

• Large Upholstered Furniture including mattresses and box springs must be bagged. Extra Large bags can be purchased at the Borough Office for $6.

• Please secure off-street parking in anticipation of the snow. This will allow the plows to push the snow to the curb.

• Do not place snow from sidewalks or private property onto the street.

• Snow which is removed from the street to provide space for parked cars must be deposited adjacent to curbing and not placed in travel lanes.

• Snow and ice must be removed from all sidewalks within 24 hours after a snowstorm has ended.

• The Mayor, at his discretion, may declare a snow and ice emergency. We will announce the snow emergency through TV, radio and social media.

• Snow Emergency Routes

- Borough Square

- Cameron Street

- Doe Run (both sides)

- Greenbrier (west side)

- Ridgeview Drive (south side)

- Verbeke Street (both sides)

- Williams Street (south side)

• After any snow emergency due to accumulation of ice or two or more inches of snow, please do not: - park a motor vehicle on an snow emergency route, or

- drive any motor vehicle on said route, unless the vehicle is equipped with snow/all season tires or chains.

MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Hello! It is an honor for me to be your mayor. I have been a Marysville resident for the past 20 years, and have been on the election board working elections for the past 10 years. I want to thank former Mayor McCreary for his leadership to Marysville. I look forward to working with Borough Council during this term. I also want to thank my friends on the election board for their help during the years I worked with them. I want to use this opportunity to give a short message – Support our businesses, Support our nonprofits, and look out for each other.

We are fortunate to have several small businesses in Marysville. They provide important services to the community. We are fortunate to have these businesses, thereby not requiring us to travel elsewhere for similar services. They thrive off of our patronage, so please support them.

Support our nonprofits. Whether it is the fire department, local churches, or the VFW, please support them when we can. They often do fundraisers, which are important for meeting their financial needs. They support our local community, so we should support them at any opportunity. And its an added bonus when we can get a good meal as part of supporting them.

Finally, particularly during the winter season, please keep an eye out for your neighbors, especially those who may be older and more inclined to staying inside when the weather is bad. Visits or phone calls are always appreciated and a simple deed like helping to shovel their sidewalk or bring their trash can in is also very appreciated.

Steven Palmer

Mayor of Marysville Borough

Thank you to the businesses!

We extend a special thanks to the business members of our community whose support through advertising have helped make the publication of this newsletter possible. Please support the local businesses that support the Borough of Marysville.

If you are a non-profit organization or business and would like to advertise in our community newsletter, please contact the Borough Office at 717.957.3110.

Deadline for the Summer Newsletter is March 1, 2024.

HOW GOES IT WITH YOUR SOUL ?

This is a different question than "How are you today?" Just as we might feel sick physically, we can feel out-of-sorts with our spiritual health. We may even feel disconnected from the Lord. It is times like these that it is important to have a spiritual companion to walk with you. Pastor TC is available, by appointment, to walk with you as you work through your spiritual development and relationship with the Lord. For more information contact Past or TC

Stormwater Authority Public Meeting

February 29, 2024 - 6:30 pm

Marysville Lions Club Building

· A public informational session will be held to discuss the implementation of a stormwater fee to fund stormwater projects required by the PA Department of Environmental Protection.

· The required projects are part of an unfunded federal mandate intended to improve stormwater quality.

· Various engineering studies have been completed over the last several years to identify the required stormwater projects, as well as provide suggested fees fund these projects.

· Borough Council formed a Stormwater Authority in 2021 to address funding of these required stormwater projects, which has worked to establish Rules and Regulations for the administration of the fee.

· Several stormwater projects have been completed to date utilizing other Borough funding sources.

· The fee will be billed starting April 1, 2024.

· The established rate for a residential property in the Borough is $38 per quarter.

· Commercial properties will be proportionally billed based on the amount of lot coverage.

BE STORMWATER SMART

Known as stormwater, once rain or snow hits the ground, it can pick up dirt, chemicals, and other pollutants and carry them downstream from your sidewalks, streets, and alleys to bodies of water in your community. Here are just a few steps you can take to be stormwater smart, starting in your own neighborhood:

On the Curb

• Street sweeping is an important part of stormwater management; during posted sweeping hours, don’t park your car on the street.

• Keep garbage cans covered to keep trash from blowing and avoid rainwater getting contaminated by your trash. Never dump garbage in alleys or gutters.

• Read the label to dispose of household chemicals and paints properly, and never dump them on the sidewalk, or in the street.

On the Sidewalk

• Keep raked leaves or yard clippings out of the storm drain to avoid clogs and debris that can reach waterways.

• Don’t hose down sidewalks; that will flush dirt down through the storm drain system!

• During colder weather, avoid over-salting the sidewalk or use “green” deicer—a little goes a long way!

In the Community

• Always pick up after your dog by putting waste in a bag and disposing it in an appropriate waste container, rather than dropping it in the storm drain.

• Never drop cigarette butts on the ground; put out cigarettes and drop the butts in a proper receptacle or trash can.

• Always put trash in its place and keep it away from storm drains.

Whether you’re enjoying a park or at the waterfront, do your part! Put litter in trash cans, and never dump liquids down storm drains. We can all be stormwater smart!

Plow trucks will make every effort to maintain travel lanes by pushing snow back to the curb line. It would help the plow trucks a great deal if you find off street parking when a weather advisory is in effect.

Although we make every effort for this not to happen, but at times mailboxes are hit while plowing, especially during large snowstorms. If this does occur borough will repair your mailbox if it’s hit by one of the borough’s plow truck, but the borough will not pay for repairs in your mailbox is hit with snow or ice.

For more details about the snow emergencies, please see visit the ordinances on marysvilleboro.com. Thank you for your help in keeping Marysville Borough a safe community even when it snows.
