OUR MEMORABLE MILESTONES As we look forward to the next 90 years of academic excellence and innovation, we would like to take a moment to reflect on some of the milestones that shaped Maryknoll School into who we are today.
1950
1940s 1950s
Maryknoll Sisters travel to the Marshall Islands to teach. To this day, high school students continue this tradition of service.
1950 The Army JROTC program
1941 Pearl Harbor is bombed by the Japanese in December. U.S. enters World War II.
begins with mandatory participation by all male students.
1960s 1970s 1960
1959 Hawai‘i becomes the 50th State in August.
1954 Construction of the High School building is completed for $400,000 on the former MacDonald Hotel site on Punahou Street.
1977
Girls Varsity Basketball team wins both ILH & State Championships.
Civil Air Patrol replaces the Army JROTC program.

Sr. Rosario Daley and Sr. Marie Patrice Kehoe retire. School transitions to an all-lay faculty.

Br. Venard Ruane, the last Maryknoll Brother serving in Hawai‘i, retires after 20 years of working at Maryknoll School. The Knoller
President Michael Baker retires. Perry Martin becomes President.
1998
1997 First Monsignor Charles A. Kekumano Award & Scholarship Dinner held.
2009
Maryknoll Community Center and Clarence T.C. Ching Gymnasium opens.
2009 St. Damien of Moloka‘i canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.
Michael Baker becomes President and first lay head of school after Fr. Frank Diffley steps down.
2012 Maryknoll Sisters celebrate their Centennial Year.
2012 St. Marianne of Moloka‘i canonized by Pope Benedict XVI.
