Educaton 2018-2023 German University of Technology | Urban Planning and Architecture Design 2023 Bachelor Thesis Project | Dar Alatta’a Association offered to help one of Al Khabora neighborhoods that got damaged by the shaheen cyclone. through constructing a new neighborhood that contains houses, and other needed services to create an integrated neighborhood. our duty as students was to propose a design for the social gathering that contains a mosque, community center (Majlis), and a commercial building for the neighborhood.

2022 Turkey Excursion | The excursion was for a week, It was scheduled to visit different historical and modern places such as mosques and churches. moreover, I had a tour of different art museums. Also, I went on a site visit to house construction. Lastly, there was an ebru art workshop that was organized by Turkish artists.

Dar Al Atta association designed a neighborhood that contains 36 houses for the families who lost their houses in the tragedy of Shaheen cyclone. our duty as students are to design a commercial hub for the neighborhood, which contains a mosque, majlis, and commercial building to serve the residents.

My responsibility was in Ownership & Governance category, which means that I need to search for a way to convince the houses owners to repair or renovate them to protect such beautiful traditional mud houses.

I interviewed some people from Fanja and some of the traditional museum owners in Al Hamra, Nizwa who already renovate their houses to understand their different points of view and to come up with suitable solutions for the old Fanja

type, It is located in Al Khoud 6. The idea was accomplished with a combination of simple and organized designs.

On the other hand, focusing on residents’ needs was a priority, to provide it in the plan, such as the services on the commercial level are either indoor or outdoor. Furthermore, greenery was added to have a peaceful view of the building.

To give a nice aspect to the place instead of having a mini desert among the houses.

07 Where Oman Walks 2020

Coverage Area (GSI) The coverage area density (GSI) represented in the shown map illustrates the ratio of building footprint to the area of open space in the Al Hail south region.

The calculations show that GSI ranges between 0.02 to 2.3 with majority of buildings in the range of 0.1 to 0.4. Therefore, the GSI is relatively low in the studied region. These results are comparable to the FAR results representing an area of residential type buildings.

Floor Area Ratio (FAR) The following map shows the floor area ratio (FAR) within the community of Al-Hail south. The results presented on the map show that the density is low in most of the area. This indicates that majority of the surrounding plots are family villas. Also various villas are among one and two stories high while some commercial buildings can reach up to seven floors, as it is shown In the west side of the map.

Typology This map illustrates the variety of buildings in Al-Hail South. The single family villas are the most spread type in the neighborhoods. We also can find Arab style houses in this region which some of them are renewed with very attractive designs. The apartments are widely constructed in the commercial area. On the other hand, there are not many apartments in the family residents’ neighborhoods.

Land-Use Mix The map clarifies the land use of each building in the region. The most available type is residential then the commercial. Due to the variety of shops that we have, I added six more symbols to identify the shops in the commercial area. For instance; (Cars Wash/Garage/ Rent), (Gifts/ Flowers/ Perfume Shop), (Bird Shop), (Electronic Shop), (Bicycle Shop), and (Book Shop).

Connectivity This map illustrates the variety of streets length in the region of Al-Hail south. As it is shown on the map almost all the streets are completed between the neighborhoods. However, there is small area with dirt road in the south east of the map. the area in general has some old roads which need to be renewed. Relatively this area was built about 30 years ago.

The aim of this project to analyze and redesign the existing neighborhoods by solving the problems that the area have. The location that I worked on was in Al Hail South and the region centered by Al Ghufran mosque. the 10 maps illustraits information and different problems that the people face everyday specially the residents of the area.

Pedestrian Infrastructure The map shows three types of walkways good, damaged and no walkways. The damaged walkway is the common and the good walkway is least available.

There is no shaded pedestrian in the map. Therefore, in my view there is a large potential to develop this area and improve it to a healthier place for walking.

Aestheticts

Two places were chosen to record videos. The first one is nearby Al-Ghufran mosque. There were only a few pedestrians in the area as a result of closing mosques due to the pandemic that we are going through. So, the second place that I chose was crowded because it is nearby the shops, which are located almost in the south west of the map.

Safety

This map shows the different types of trees. Also, it illustrates the places of bins, beautiful or messy spaces, and garbage places. I installed my camera in the car, then I drove around the neighborhood. I tried to record as much as possible places so it will be easier to collect more information.

Summary Map

This map displays the VEHICULAR TRAFFIC in the region’s street. It shows the high traffic area near the commercial buildings and after the roundabout from the west side. In addition, this way is the nearest street to the main road which explains the high traffic in this specific area. The red arrows on the map show the unidentified pedestrian crossing. These are particularly at the pointed locations due to the availability of walking areas without crossing locations been allocated.

This map summarizes the two previous maps which are safety and aesthetics; maps 10 and 9 respectively. I merged them into one map to view the available characteristics of the area in a more comprehensive way. The merged map illustrates a realistic view of the area.
