LIVESTOCK INFORMATION

SECTION E GOAT SHOW

RULES and REGULATIONS

1. Open to 4-H and FFA members in Rapides Parish only.

2. Animals must be entered online at http://rapidesparish.fairentry.com by September 30, 2024

3. Each exhibitor must show his/her own animal.

MARKET GOATS

1. All goats must be dehorned.

2. Wether or doe goats are eligible to show.

3. All goats will be weighed individually and classified into divisions. Goats eligible to show must be a minimum of 45 pounds. There is no maximum weight. There will be a prospect class for lighter steers. Prospects cannot compete for champion.

4. All goats must be slick sheared within 7 days prior to the show.

5. Market Goats must be dehorned, polled, or disbudded. Any scurs or horn structures must be blunted and not exceed one inch in length.

COMMERCIAL DOE SHOW

1. Spring doeling (Must have no visible evidence of the emergence of part or all of one or both of the first pair of permanent incisors)

2. Yearling doe (two and four teeth are allowed)

3. Aged Doe (5 teeth and over)

4. Does showing in the Commercial Doe classes cannot be entered or shown in the Market Goat division.

5. All Commercial Does must have an ear tag for identification in the class.

6. Commercial Does can be shown with hair or slick sheared.

7. All Commercial Does may be shown with horns or dehorned.

WETHER DAM SHOW

1. A wether dam goat is a crossbred female animal, or may be purebred provided it is not tattooed as a registered animal with a breed association, or entered in breed show (FB, %, Com Doe)

2. Must have scrapies tag

3. No minimum or maximum weight.

4. Horns or polled are allowed.

5. Goats must be slick sheared (shorn above knees and hocks)

6. No tooth rule

JUNIOR BREEDING GOAT SHOW

1. All breeding goats must have registration papers. They may be purebred or percentage does.

SECTION F POULTRY SHOW

NOTICE: NEW HEALTH REGULATIONS FOR POULTRY

The Louisiana Livestock Sanitary Board recently passed the following regulation – Regulation 11768 Admittance of Louisiana Poultry to Fairs, Livestock Shows and Poultry Shows which states: All poultry going to Louisiana fairs, livestock shows, and poultry shows shall be accompanied by a VS Form 9-2 indicating the flock of origin is under the National Poultry Improvement Plan and is free of Salmonella gallinarum (thyphoid). If the flock of origin is not under the National Poultry Improvement Plan, the birds of breeding age must be accompanied by VS Form 9-2 and a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection indicating the birds were tested negative for pullorum/thyphoid within 90 days prior to admittance to the fair.

2. Poultry shown in showmanship must be own by the exhibitor.

3. Exhibitors must be in possession and ownership of the birds by two (2) months of age.

4. 4-H and FFA Poultry Show Birds will be entered must be entered online at http://rapidesparish.fairentry.com by September 30, 2024 No day of show entries.

5. 4-H and FFA Poultry Show judging will begin at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

6. No registration fees required in the 4-H and FFA Poultry Show.

7. Birds will be judged by the American Standard of Perfection in the show. No Crossbred birds will be shown.

8. No exhibit other than in good health and in good condition will be received in the show.

9. Those exhibiting poultry will do so at their own risk. The poultry will be given special care and attention and precaution will be taken to return the birds in good shape to owner.

10.Birds may be entered as cockerels, pullets, cocks, and hens.

11.Each exhibitor may enter in six premium numbers in the poultry division. Premiums WILL NOT be paid for more than six (6) entries by one (1) exhibitor.

12.All poultry must be tested in order to show in poultry show. To get your birds tested please call the 4-H Office at (318) 767-3968 to set up an appointment.

13.The following definitions will apply to all exhibits in the poultry division:

COCKEREL – A male bird under one (1) year old. PULLET – A female bird under one (1) year old. COCK – A male bird over one (1) year old. HEN – A female bird over one (1) year old.

14. No birds over two (2) years old will be allowed to show.

15. Official release time for all birds is at the conclusion of the show.

16. No poultry can be sold in the barn.

Exhibitors will be divided into two classes, Juniors and Seniors. Juniors are those who are 13 years old and younger. Seniors are those 14 years old and older.

SECTION G RABBIT SHOW

RULES and REGULATIONS

1.Open to 4-H and FFA members in Rapides Parish only.

2.4-H and FFA rabbits must be entered online at http://rapidesparish.fairentry.com by September 30,2024 No day of show entries.

3.4-H and FFA Rabbit Show judging will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday October 12, 2024.

4.4-H and FFA rabbits will be released at the conclusion of the show.

5.Those exhibiting rabbits will do so at their own risk.

6.Upon check-in, all exhibitors must complete a registration form. Once the registration form is turned in and checked by the Superintendents, no changes can be made. This means no changes will be permitted on the day of the show.

EXHIBITION RABBITS

1.Exhibitors are permitted to enter six (6) entries in the breeding show.

Premiums paid: 1st: $7.00 2nd: $6.50 3rd: $6.00 4th: $5.50 5th: $5.00

2.Those breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) and listed in the Standard of Perfection will be allowed to show. For a list of recognized breeds, please visit www.arba.net/breeds.htm. Mixed breed rabbits will be permitted to show at the 4-H show. Mixed breed rabbits will be the last breed to show and are not eligible for the Best in Show award.

3.Each breed will be divided into four (4) classes: Senior Buck, Senior Doe, Junior Buck, and Junior Doe. Seniors are those rabbits six (6) months of age and over, or those that meet specific weight requirements as listed in the Standard of Perfection. Juniors are those rabbits under six (6) months of age, or those that meet specific weight requirements as listed in the Standard of Perfection.

4.The order of the show will be established on the day of the show. Meat Pens and the Single Fryer class will be shown first, followed by the breeding rabbits. Mixed Breed rabbits will be the last classes to show.

5.The winners of each class within a breed will compete for Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex. Following the Mixed Breeds, all Best of Breeds will compete for Best in Show, 1st Runner Up, and 2nd Runner Up. Following the Best in Show selection, all Best Opposite Sex winners will compete for Best of Best Opposite Sex.

6.Exhibitors must show his/her own animal. All exhibitors must bring his/her own rabbit to the show table.

7.Permanent tattoos are strongly encouraged but not required. All rabbit entries will be given a temporary number for identification purposes.

8.Exhibitors are allowed three (3) market rabbit entries, with not more than two entries in the same class (i.e. 2 meat pen entries and 1 single fryer entry, or 1 meat pen entry and 2 single fryer entries). Premiums will be paid for the highest placing entry in each class.

MEAT PENS

Meat Pens will consist of three (3) rabbits, all the same breed and variety. Rabbits should be as close to identical to each other as possible; they should have similar confirmation and body type. Age limit is not over ten (10) weeks old. Each rabbit should not exceed five and one half (5 ½) pounds.

Premiums paid for Meat Pens: 1st: $17.00 2nd: 14.50 3rd: $12.00 4th: $9.50 5th: $7.00

SINGLE FRYER CLASS –

The Single Fryer class will consist of one, purebred rabbit exhibiting ideal commercial qualities, with an emphasis on meat production. Age limit is not over ten (10) weeks old. The fryer should not exceed five and one half (5 ½) pounds.

SHOWMANSHIP

1. Showmanship will be during the rabbit show.

ADDITIONAL RULES:

1. Breeding animals which are registered or recorded in the herd book of their respective breed association are eligible for show if the registration certificate contains animal identification data, a birthdate, and a registration number & registered in exhibitor’s name.

2. All beef breeding entries must be registered or recorded with their respected associations. Animals must be entered online at http://rapidesparish.fairentry.com by September 30, 2024. No day of show entries.

MARKET STEER DIVISION

BEEF BREEDING DIVISION

All registered cattle will show by designated breed.

All bulls MUST be shown with nose leads.

The following classifications will be used for all breeds in the Youth Beef Breeding Division:

COMMERCIAL HEIFER DIVISION

1.This division is subject to the general rules and regulations in addition to these division rules.

2.Any crossbred/grade heifers are eligible to enter the commercial heifer division.

3.The weight of the heifer cannot be less than 400 pounds. Calves will be weighed only one time.

4.The heifer must be polled or dehorned.

5.The entries in this division will be judged as replacement heifers and should be fed and fitted accordingly.

6.Each exhibitor must be able to show their heifers unassisted. Heifers will be shown at halter and proper showing paraphernalia for the exhibitor is encouraged. Exhibitors will be allowed to groom the hair, brush the hair forward, up, or down, and clip the body hair. No grooming aids except soap and water must be used on show day. (For example: no tail balls, no hoof paint, no adhesives, no show sheens, no shaving cream, etc.)

7.Number of classes will be determined by the number of heifers exhibited.

8.The commercial heifers will be split by Brahman Influence and Non Brahman Influence.

9.Mouthing requirements will be determined by visual inspection of the teeth. Commercial heifers must have their front two baby teeth and must have no visible evidence of the first pair of permanent teeth. If baby teeth are not evident or permanent incisors are evident, they will be classified as yearlings. Heifers that mouth as yearlings will be allowed to show in the yearling class BUT NOT ALLOWED TO COMPETE FOR CHAMPION.

SECTION I DAIRY SHOW

DAIRY BREEDING DIVISION

The show order for Youth Dairy is as follows: Holstein Guernsey Jersey Other Pure breeds

COMMERCIAL DAIRY HEIFER

1. Heifers in this division will be judged as replacement dairy heifers. No heifer that has calved will be eligible to show in the heifer division. Commercial animals that have calved will show in the commercial dairy cow class.

2. To be eligible for this division a heifer or cow must not be registered with a dairy breed association.

3. All Commercial Dairy animals must be dehorned or naturally polled. Horn scurs are allowed.

4. Heifers will show by weight.

5. Heifers weighing less than 150 pounds at the time of weigh-in will be ineligible to show.

SECTION J SWINE DIVISION

MARKET HOGS

Grand Champion Market Hogs - Rosette - Buckle Reserve Grand Champion Market Hogs - Rosette

1. Entries in this class shall be limited to barrows and gilts weighing not less than 215 lbs. or more than 285 lbs. with a 5% +/- tolerance on weigh in day. Show managers may use the 1.5 lb. per day method to develop minimum weight; using this method, managers use the days between the parish show and state show and subtract a pound and a half per day from the 215 minimum weight.

2. For market hogs, all breeds will be combined and shown by weight.

3. Market classes will be divided if there are more than 12 entries per class.

4. Market swine not meeting the above requirements will not be allowed to compete for Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion.

5. There will be a prospect class for lighter hogs. Prospects cannot compete for champion.

6. Classes will be broken by weight

SWINE BREEDING

CHAMPION GILT - Rosette - Trophy

The show order is as follows: Hampshire Duroc Other Pure Breeds

The following classifications will be used for all breeds:

1. FEBRUARY GILT, farrowed Feb. 1, 2024-Feb. 28, 2024

2. MARCH GILT, farrowed March 1, 2024-March 31, 2024.

3. APRIL GILT, farrowed April 1, 2024-April 30, 2024

4. MAY GILT, farrowed May 1, 2024-May 31, 2024.

COMMERCIAL GILTS

Any pig entered in the MARKET classes cannot show in the Commercial Gilt Section.

1. Gilts will be weighed only once (no reweighs). Actual show weight will be taken at the appointed time by the livestock show management.

2. Any pig entered in the MARKET show cannot show in the Commercial Gilt show

3. THE MINIMUM WEIGHT OF GILTS IS 200 POUNDS

4.. REGISTERED/RECORDED GILTS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE COMMERCIAL GILTSHOW.

5. The entries in this division will be judged as Replacement Gilts and should be fed and fitted accordingly.

MARKET LAMBS

Entries in this class shall be limited to lambs weighing a minimum of 80 lbs. with no maximum weight. All breeds of market lambs will be combined and shown by weight. Market lambs not meeting the above weight limits will not be allowed to compete for Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion.

There will be a prospect class for lighter steers. Prospects cannot compete for champion.

SHEEP BREEDING

The show order is as follows: Suffolk Other Pure Breeds Hampshire Commercial Ewes

All lambs must be wearing association ear tags at the time of showing. The following classifications will be used for all sheep breeds:

1. SPRING RAM LAMB, after January 1, 2024.

2. CHAMPION RAM - Rosette - Trophy

3. RESERVE CHAMPION RAM - Rosette

4. SPRING EWE LAMB, after January 1, 2024

5. YEARLING EWE, 1 year old but under 2, September 1, 202 & after. CHAMPION EWE - Rosette - Trophy RESERVE CHAMPION EWE – Rosette

COMMERCIAL EWE

SECTION L HORSE DIVISION

1. Animals must be entered online at http://rapidesparish.fairentry.com by September 30, 2024. No day of show entries.

2. Youth Division Rules and Regulations apply to this section.

ADDITIONAL RULES:

1. All horses must be officially registered in the name of the exhibitor or immediate family 30 days prior to the show.

2. 4-H & FFA youth will be allowed to exhibit a leased horse. Members will be required to complete the Leased Horse Affidavit Form and Submit it at entry. Exhibitors showing leased horses will be required to follow the same possession rules as all other horse exhibitors listed in the horse show catalog.

3. Weanlings will be accepted in regular horse classes with papers pending.

4. Registered horses will not be allowed to show in the Grade Horse Class.

5. All horses must be accompanied by a record of negative test for equine infectious anemia (Coggins test) conducted within the past 12 months.

5. Clothing must be clean and neat. A western style shoe with a minimum of 1/2 inch heel can be used. A minimum of a short-sleeved shirt is required. The shirt must button or snap down the entire length of the shirt. Cowboy hats may be worn, NO CAPS.
