Letter from the president
To all Martha’s Vineyard Bank shareholders,
To pull together successfully, there has to be trust.
At Martha’s Vineyard Bank, trust is the foundation of all we do. Building trust with one another, through shared values and a commitment to giving our best, every day. Nurturing trust in our community, by supporting those who are invested in the health and vitality of our neighborhoods, our schools, and our unique way of life. And inspiring trust in the future as we work towards greater transparency, inclusivity, and sustainability in all we do.
Empowered by that fundamental sense of trust and buoyed by strong growth in deposits and residential lending, 2021 proved a year of remarkable success for Martha’s Vineyard Bank and its employees, customers, and communities.
• The Martha’s Vineyard Bank Charitable Foundation awarded nearly $1 million in grants and sponsorships.
• We opened a new location on the Village Green in Falmouth, while our Lift Store continued to be a lifeline for Falmouth and Martha’s Vineyard merchants.
• We launched our Home Partnership loan program to help local employers and their employees pull together to make home ownership affordable for working residents.
• With more than $1 million in school banking deposits and $357,000 in college scholarships awarded in the last twelve years, we continued to prioritize helping local kids get off to the best possible start in life.
• And so much more, as you’ll see inside this report.
Wherever we could, we brought our resources, expertise, and energy to meet the most urgent local needs, with a focus on keeping our communities strong by working together for the common good.
As a local bank built to help our neighbors achieve their dreams, we’ve seen that incredible things are possible when we pull together. That belief has kept us strong for over 110 years and will continue to guide us into the future — on that you can trust.
Sincerely,
James M. Anthony President and CEO

“We’re taking care of a lot of people now. We’re doing the West Tisbury Library, the Vineyard Haven Library, Center for Living, Harbor Homes, community suppers at Grace Church and Good Shepard Parish, and snacks for Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, things like juice boxes, Saltines, peanut butter, to supplement the kids… they’re hungry.”

As a bank with a long history of helping our neighbors achieve their goals, Martha’s Vineyard Bank takes great pride in our role helping to shape the future of our community. We believe it is in our best interests, as well as the interests of everyone we serve, to commit ourselves to leaving the world a better place than we found it.
In our carbon-neutral journey, innovation has already driven a number of sustainable banking practices, like paperless banking, our online Lift store, and state-of-the-art tools like Zelle’s digital payment app and contactless debit cards.
We are determined to move forward in ways that will increase our efficiency and effectiveness while limiting our carbon footprint and ensuring we act as careful stewards of the precious resources and special places we call home.

PULLING TOGETHER WITH OUR EMPLOYEES
INVESTING IN THE TEAM THAT DRIVES OUR SUCCESS
To help our employees be and do their best, we give them the best training, tools, and rewards in the industry, like a wellness program that includes mindfulness, holistic health, and fitness benefits. In addition, tuition reimbursement, performance-based incentives, and our S.O.A.R. professional development program offer on-going learning and professional growth opportunities for future advancement.
GIVING OUR EMPLOYEES THE POWER TO GIVE BACK
In 2021, $38,750 was distributed to local organizations by our employees through our Employee Directed Donations program, which gives Bank employees $500 each year to direct to non-profits of their choice. Employees also received 4 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer for a local charity, non-profit organization, or community event.
ADVANCING THE VALUES OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION
Neighbors helping one another succeed is the foundation of everything we do at Martha’s Vineyard Bank. Looking ahead, we are committed to creating banking experiences that welcome — and reward — everyone in our midst.
