KEY RATIOS

Sustainability & Our B Corp Commitment

Martha’s Vineyard Bank was the first bank in Massachusetts to achieve B Corporation certification and has maintained this distinction for two consecutive years. Our B Lab Impact Assessment Score of 103.7 reflects our commitment to balancing profit with purpose through meaningful social and environmental standards.

In 2024, we published our inaugural Sustainability Report, sharing our journey toward positive change. Our approach embraces both environmental stewardship and social responsibility, with goals across three key areas: locally integrated operations, community investment through our Charitable Foundation, and social impact initiatives.

The Bank uses four types of energy sources: electricity, natural gas, propane, and No. 2 fuel oil. We now source 100% of our electricity from renewable sources as we work toward becoming a fossil-fuel free, zero net carbon emissions institution. While the path ahead involves continued effort, we remain dedicated to improvement as we balance community banking excellence with responsible corporate citizenship.

Generational Stewardship: The Reimann Legacy

For landscape architect Kristen Reimann and her family, banking with Martha’s Vineyard Bank isn’t just about financial transactions. It’s about fostering meaningful connections across generations.

Kristen and her husband chose Martha’s Vineyard Bank in 1995 because they valued a community-focused approach. “I like going into my local branch, where I know Debbie [Williams] and she knows me,” she shares. Kristen’s positive experience with community banking led her to open accounts for her daughters during elementary school. Now as they enter adulthood, she encourages them to maintain their relationship with Martha’s Vineyard Bank.

She draws a clear distinction with the customer service at large corporate institutions. “They don’t know you and may not have your best interest in mind,” she points out.

The Reimann family’s choice to bank locally with Martha’s Vineyard Bank, maintained for three decades and now passed to the next generation, highlights the enduring importance of face-to-face interactions and personal connections—cornerstones of the Bank’s community-centered values.

Career Stewardship: Yvette Turner’s 40-Year Journey

When Yvette Turner first joined Martha’s Vineyard Bank, she found what would become a lifelong professional home. Last year, she celebrated 40 remarkable years of employment. “It felt like family, every day that you came to work,” she reflects. Yvette explored several positions before finding her ideal role as a Retail Banker, illustrating the Bank’s commitment to nurturing career growth. “I love interacting with our customers and being able to help,” she says.

Yvette defines stewardship as “thinking of others, not just yourself, and showing up.” This philosophy was instilled by past colleagues Ed Mayhew and Katherine Bettencourt, as well as former Trustee Robert Tankard, who influenced her during high school. “I worked under Ed and Kay for about 20 years. They were a big part of my life,” she shares.

Through technological advances and service expansions, Yvette values the enduring sense of belonging. “I’m proud to be part of an organization that cares about this place and the people here.” Her dedication embodies what makes Martha’s Vineyard Bank special: the people who enrich our culture and define community banking.
