Ninjas at the Library Cadderly Kingsbury, Martensville Messenger

The Kids Club after-school program at the Martensville Library held an action-filled afternoon on Monday, January 21, with a theme of ninjas. To kick-off the fun, children excitedly sat through a story, then designed their very own ninja stars and paper bag ninjas. The group of approximately 15 kids, ranging from ages 6 to 9, had lots of fun and expelled lots of energy while showing off their karate skills. “They can either sign up for all of the weeks or just sign up for the themes or the activities that they are interested in,” Katie McKay-Argyriou said, as she prepared the room for the kids. The once-a-week program has room for about 15 kids, and although the groups are often full, any kids interested are encouraged to come down and have some fun. A new week means a new theme, and the upcoming ones are fun for all. Upcoming events include; ‘Celebrating Snow Day’ and ‘I Survived’. “There is a book series called ‘I Survived’, which is based off of real events that have happened, such as hurricanes or earthquakes. We are going to do one off of that,” McKay-Argyriou explained. In addition to the weekly events and themes, there are also holiday crafts that take place around each holiday year-round, with a Valentine’s Program taking place in February. McKay-Argyriou noted that the biggest attraction is the games. “The kids always love the games. Usually we have prizes, so they get to pick out a prize from our big treasure box if they finish whatever game we’re playing.” Of course, since this is a library program, books are always incorporated into each program to help encourage the kids to discover the joy of reading.
