The community artwork project was completed with funding from the Victorian Government’s Outdoor Activation Fund.

The new artworks are an extension of a similar Council and resident collaboration on the eastern side of Canterbury Road.

Convener of the Heathmont History Group, Gerry Robinson, said the recent installations have been well-received.

New bollard artworks on the north side of Heathmont Village Shopping Centre

The bollards feature images and artwork of the animals and vegetation in the area, providing a colourful addition to the shopping precinct while also improving the safety and amenity of the area. This is just one of many shopping centre precinct upgrade programs being undertaken across Maroondah.

“The project provides an opportunity for Heathmont to be seen as a focus of artwork and nature reserves. There are now close to 200 nature-themed bollards in the Heathmont area – a beautiful reminder of the importance of nature preservation,” he said.

The 2020 installation saw Heathmont residents aged between 3 and 100 paying tribute to the Heathmont Orchard Sanctuary, which existed there from approximately 1860 to 1960.

Level Crossing Removal Project update

Have you booked your booster?

Coolstore Road and Croydon Station designs available Initial concept designs for the level crossing removal at Coolstore Road, Croydon and the new Croydon Station were released by the Victorian Government Level Crossing Removal Project in August. The plans propose to ease congestion in the area by removing the roundabout at Coolstore Road and create new road connections beneath the rail bridge.

The new design includes an additional entrance to the new Ringwood East Station and car parking closer to the station precinct. At Bedford Road, a new walking and cycling path has been added to the design, connecting the 19.2km Heathmont Rail Trail to Bedford Park.
