WILL DAVISON & EREBUS MOTORSPORT ARE MOVING UP THE LEADERBOARD IN 2014 >>

With 8 top ten performances behind him in 2014, Will Davison is determined to continue his climb up the V8 Supercar grid this year. The fifth round of the Championship at Darwin brought disappointment for the Erebus driver, and saw him fall from 10th to 12th in the championship. In his first start at Barbagallo Racecway with Erebus Motorsport, there were glimpses of brilliance on track but mechanical gremlins again took their toll on the team’s results. “Barbagallo showed up just how much work we still need to do with our engines,” Davison admitted. “I know it’s coming but it’s hard to be patient, especially after a weekend like that when weren’t able to capitalise on what we had.” Davison qualifiedhis Mercedes Benz inside the top 10 twice over the three races but only once was he able to finish there, suffering a series of dramas that kept him out of contention. Davison hopes that the test day at the team’s local track, Queensland Raceway, since the Perth round will see an improvement in form this weekend at Darwin. Despite his enduro teammate Alex Davison having a excursiuon off road during the test, Will remains upbeat about the upcoming races. While he has never won a V8 Supercar Race at Hidden Valley Raceway, Davison has twice scored pole position.

IS 2014 THE SEASON FOR FROSTY? >>

Mark Winterbottom has established himself as the man to beat in 2014. With meticulous consistency and outright speed, Frosty has carved himself a neat 100 point gap over his closest rival heading into this weekend’s round at Darwin. The Ford driver has scored nine podium finishes from 16 races so far this year, including three race wins. On top of that he has only finished outside the top ten on two occasions. After challenging for the championship for a number of years, Winterbottom is determined to go all the way in 2014. And a test at Winton Motor Raceway between the Perth and Darwin rounds has helped his chances, with the FPR crew working through a number of gains. “We put some new componentry in the car which I think will stay in,” says Winterbottom, if the team’s test. “It proved reliable and provided an improvement so we will leave that in the car. The tyre bank is never great in testing so lap time-wise we weren’t setting the world on fire, but we recorded set-up gains. All-in-all I am pretty happy. We covered a heap of laps and gained some valuable information on the new components.” His strong form of late, coupled with a race win at the Darwin round last year, makes Winterbottom a strong favourite at Hidden Valley this weekend.

Four podiums in the last six races, including one emphatic race win at Perth; Chaz Mostert is on a roll. The 22-year-old has fought back from a slow start to the season with an incredible run of form over the last two rounds, climbing to eighth in the championship. After being elevated to the Ford Factory team this year for his first full season in V8 Supercars, Mostert hit a few hurdles through the first half of the season. But now he is silencing his critics, matching and even conquering his experienced teammate Mark Winterbottom on the track. And the young gun has high hopes to continue his form at Darwin,

following a successful test day at Winton alongside his enduro partner Paul Morris. “It was an awesome day and I don’t think I’ve ever achieved so much at a test day,” said Mostert. “We tried a few new things and some settings which were a little outside the square, but we worked on the weak areas and didn’t lose any of our strengths.” “Working with Paul was fine. He has so much experience at Bathurst and the other enduro tracks so I plan to use that to my advantage. Until then we will keep working on our sprint round pace and I am looking forward to Darwin.”

It’s been a long wait since the last round of the Touring Car Masters Series in April for John Bowe. And the Australian racing legend is eager to continue his run of form at Darwin this weekend. In the two rounds of the Touring Car Masters series this year, Bowe has accrued two pole positions, five podium places, one race win, as well as two lap records. Piloting his 1969 Ford Mustang, Bowe has moved early to stamp his authority on the 2014 championship and reignited the long-standing rivalry with fellow TCM front-runner Jim Richards. At the last round at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria, the Doric Ambassador put on a dominant performance early on, collecting his first race win for the season over two seconds clear of his closest rival. He set the fastest lap in all three races at Winton and tied for the round win. “I love racing in Darwin and Winton seems a long time ago.” “The TCM cars are spectacular around Darwin. The big straight means a lot of engine related performance. And the cars are pretty unruly so that makes it fun around back part of track. “I’ve got a pretty good record at Darwin but I’m expecting some tough competition. The whole field has really stepped up this year and it makes the racing very exciting.”

Doric and Paul Cruickshank Racing made the big jump from the V8 Development Series to the main V8 Supercar Championship Series for the 2006 season. Doric moved from title sponsor to associate sponsor, taking up spot on the front spoiler and rear of the #20 car. Young gun Marcus Marshall piloted the BA Ford for the entire year. The team took a remarkable top ten finish at Winton just four rounds into their first season in the main game. The result was a highlight for the squad, competing against seasoned rivals at the pointy end of the field. Jonathon Webb teamed up with Marshall for the enduro races at Sandown and Bathurst and the rookie squad finished the year in 29th position. Doric’s support of Paul Cruickshank Racing remained the same for several years after the 2006 season.

The 2009 season saw Doric continue its support of Paul Cruickshank Racing in 2009 in its new identity of Wilson Security Racing. Exciting young Kiwi Fabian Coulthard and Western Australian racer Michael Patrizi took control of the two PCR Ford Falcons for Doric’s sixth year of involvement in motorsport. It was a breakthrough year for Doric and Coulthard, with a Doric sponsored car gracing the podium for the first time in the hands of the young gun at the Symmons Plains Raceway round that year. Impressively slotting in behind Championship favourites Jamie Whincup and Will Davison in the second Tasmanian race, Coulthard cemented his place as one to watch over the coming seasons. Coulthard finished an impressive 15th place in the championship, taking seven top ten finishes throughout the year, while Patrizi scored a best of ninth at the Symmons Plains round, finishing the season in 27th position.

The 2011 season saw big change for the Doricsponsored cars and bikes. In the V8 Supercar Championship, Doric moved to support title chance Ford Performance Racing and its first class drivers Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom. Doric Ambassador James Moffat moved up to the main game with reining V8 champions Dick Johnson Racing, while Wayne Maxwell joined Jamie Stauffer at Team Motologic, with the outfit switching to Hondas in the Australian Superbike Championship. John Bowe again flew the flag for Doric in the Touring Car Masters in his 1969 Ford Mustang. It was a successful year for Ford Performance Racing, with the drivers scoring 15 podium finishes between them over the course of the season. Mark Winterbottom finished third in the championship, while James Moffat had a stellar debut season in the main game, scoring a best of fourth place at the Gold Coast event.

Along with his current form, Winterbottom’s previous three wins at Hidden Valley Raceway make him a firm favourite at the Top End this weekend. His teammate Chaz Mostert is also on for a good showing, following up from his first win with FPR at Perth last month. Strategy and tyre conservation play a big part in the results at Darwin. The warm and humid weather prove challenging for engineers and drivers alike. The 2.9km circuit asks a lot of each V8 Supercar, with a long straight, as well as a number of tight and fast bends across the back of the circuit. Being the only event in the Northern Territoy, the round receives great support from the

local community and the warm weather makes it a popular choice for race fans. Doric ambassador and touring car legend John Bowe says the 2014 season has so far been one of the most exciting in recent history. “I’m really looking forward to watching the V8s at Darwin because I have absolutely no idea who is going to win!” says Bowe. “Really, that’s the way racing should be. It’s as exciting as it’s ever been and the competition through the whole field is extraordinary.” “Honestly, it’s going to be tough for all the drivers, but great to watch for the fans”

RACER REWIND: THE DORIC RACERS HAD SOME UPS AND DOWNS IN DARWIN 12 MONTHS AGO >>

www.doric.com.au >> facebook.com/doricracing >> twitter.com/doricracing >> 25

The sixth round of the 2013 V8 Supercar Championship was one of the most exciting of the season, with title favourites faltering and on track carnage at its peak. Jamie Whincup won the first race while Ford Performance Racing drivers Mark Winterbotom and Will Davison struggled to make ground. But Winterbottom fought back in the second race to a stunning win, while Davison fell agonisingly short of another podium place. Winterbottom backed up the win with a second place in the final race. A penalty for fierce rival Jamie Whincup, allowed Winterbottom to close the points gap at the front of the field. Davison finished the round out with a solid seventh place finish, his consistency proving

to be a great asset in his 2013 campaign, eventually finishing third in the championship. The third race also saw an enormous, multi-car accident on the opening lap, which saw seven cars eliminated from the race, and four more sustaining considerable damage. Tim Slade, Lee Holdsworth, Alex Davison, Dean Fiore, David Wall, Alexandre PrĂŠmat and James Moffat were all unable to finish the race, while the bruised Scott McLaughlin, Jason Bright, Fabian Coulthard and Russell Ingall all managed to make the restart. Meanwhile, Chaz Mostert, in just his third round in the main game, took his second career top ten finish.
