The Dance Group has undertaken legacy planning, investing creative energy in the future of the company so that Mark Morris’ work may engage fans worldwide for generations
to come. The Dance Center, The School and the community engagement programs are vital parts of Morris’ legacy.
This year, Morris announced two elements of his legacy
plan. Dances for the Future and the Mark Morris Archive. With
Dances for the Future, Morris is creating a reserve of new works that will not premiere until he is no longer choreographing. This bold legacy plan provides a critical pathway for the company’s sustainability, meeting the demands of the
audiences for new work and providing a continued platform for performance of the vast repertory. The first dance in the series, as yet untitled, for 15 dancers to piano sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, was completed this year.
