2023-2024 BASKETBALL
Dear Knight Nation, Welcome to another exciting season of Knights basketball! It continues to be a privilege for me to serve Central Penn’s student-athletes as their Athletic Director. It is also a genuine pleasure to witness the support of so many family members, friends and fans. We are exceedingly grateful for the support you have given our players and coaches. You have inspired us to aim high and never give up. For every student who has the privilege of wearing “Knights” across their chest, I hope that their basketball career will endure as one of their favorite college memories. My philosophy has always been that academics and character are just as important as athletics. Virtues like integrity, respect and teamwork remain long after the final buzzer. I couldn’t be prouder of our athletes and their ability to juggle classwork, “real world” work, and personal obligations, while managing to give it their all at practices and games. It is inspiring to see them representing our college with such honor. If you think you might have what it takes to be a Central Penn Knight, please take a moment to complete the recruiting form at centralpennknights.com or email my office at athletics@centralpenn.edu. I look forward to seeing many more fans and family members at our games this season. Your willingness to “show up” means so much to these young players. Join me in cheering on our student-athletes on the basketball court and in life.
As always, Go Knights!
Kasey Hicks Athletic Director Central Penn College

Men’s Head Coach
Gary Martin Gary Martin is starting his third year as head coach of men’s basketball at Central Penn College. He has coached basketball at both the high school and college levels for more than 25 years. In 2008, Coach Martin was an assistant boys’ basketball coach at his alma mater, Susquehanna Township High School, when the team won the District 3 championship and was runner up in the state championship game. In 2010, he became the head coach of boys’ basketball at GreencastleAntrim High School, compiling an 87-57 record in six years, including three Mid-Penn Colonial championships, four District 3 playoff appearances, and one PIAA state playoff berth. In 2012-13, Coach Martin was named Public Opinion’s “Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year.” In 2016, he returned to STHS for five seasons, with the team qualifying for district playoffs five years and state playoffs for two. A Penn State graduate, he is employed by UPMC-Harrisburg Hospital and resides in Harrisburg with his wife, Karen. They have two sons and seven grandchildren. Last season, for the first time in the college’s 142-year history, the Knights basketball team competed for the Eastern States Athletic Conference championship. This year, Kenton Alston joins the coaching staff at Central Penn. Kenton played basketball at Steelton-Highspire High School and Penn State-Harrisburg. Coach Martin and his staff look forward to an exciting year ahead!

Women’s Head Coach
Stasia King
You know you’ve had an illustrious basketball career when locally elected officials designate a day in your honor. Stasia King earned that recognition and the respect of basketball enthusiasts across the state when she played as a Lady Cougar for Harrisburg High School. The Lady Knights are thrilled to welcome her as their new head coach for the 2023-24 season. Excitement about the team and their talent is already running high. Last year, for the first time in the school’s 142-year history, the Lady Knights received a bid to the USCAA National Championship Tournament. After her award-winning journey at Harrisburg High, King was a stand-out at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, leading four back-to-back Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) teams. She was also a campus leader, active in the NAACP Chapter, Black Student Union and more. After her 2015 graduation from Duquesne, King coached at Central Dauphin East High School before reuniting with her alma mater to coach the Cougars. Along with Coach Dwan Lee, she played an integral role in the team’s victories, securing the 2018 District 3 5A PIAA District Championship and the 2018 District 3 5A PIAA Mid-Penn Conference Championship. Recently, Coach King completed a threeyear coaching stint with Duquesne’s women’s basketball team. In the 20222023 season, she helped lead the team to an impressive 19-11 record. Last season, Central Penn’s Lady Knights went undefeated at home and in Eastern State Conference Athletic (ESAC) conference play. King said her goal is “to empower our young women to become wellrounded individuals who are not only successful athletes but also confident and accomplished in all aspects of their lives.”
