Courier A-LEVEL RESULTS WINSTANLEY COLLEGE
St John Rigby College goes from strength to strength ST JOHN RIGBY College students have achieved a fantastic set of results with the overall A Level pass rate climbing above 99.2% for the first time ever. Furthermore, those students following Vocational Advanced Level courses exceeded the exceptional achievements of previous SJR cohorts and realised a 100% pass rate for the very first time across all courses. A fantastic 100% pass rate was realised in 23 of the College’s 26 A Level courses, with many achieving this for the fifth consecutive year. These results maintain the year on year improvements being realised at the College, improvements which were praised in the recent Ofsted report. The Principal, Peter McGhee, said
“This is an exceptional performance from a remarkable group of young people, ranging from the most academically gifted to those who would not have been afforded the opportunity to study at other colleges. We are delighted that they have achieved so much and that their efforts have been rewarded. Students and staff can celebrate another year in which the judgements recently made by Ofsted inspectors are clearly evident. There are many outstanding individual success stories with students gaining high grades in all of their subjects. “At SJR we value every individual and it is particularly pleasing for me that more students than ever before have surpassed their target grade expectations and exceeded the grades that they might reasonably expect to achieve at other
colleges. “The award of qualifications and seeing them progress from College to other things is the culmination of our work and with these results we expect to see another year in which “student progression to HE and employment is high.” “With regard to university applications, we are seeing the opposite of the national trend with a higher percentage of our students than ever before aspiring to and applying for higher education. “I hope that they are as proud of their achievements as I am and I am delighted that all of our teachers and support staff can share in these celebrations before looking forward to welcoming and inspiring the next cohort of St John Rigby College students.”
Five per cent rise in pass rates for W & L College
STUDENTS AND STAFF at Wigan & Leigh College were celebrating as the class of 2013 achieved their results.
Overall the College’s pass rate is 97 per cent with 11 A Level subjects achieving a 100 per cent pass rate this year including Sciences. Students who achieved high grades include:Samuel Ridings – A in Maths, B in Biology and B in Chemistry. Samuel who is a former student of Fred Longworth High School is going to the University of Leeds to study Adult Nursing. Olivia Meads - A in Media Studies, B in English Language and B in ICT. Olivia who is a previous student of Lords School in Bolton is now taking a gap year before going off to University to study Journalism. Adam Shallcross – A in Business Studies, B in Maths and B in PE. Adam who is a previous student of Bedford High School is now
undertaking a Higher Apprenticeship in Accounting at Bentleys with study at Wigan & Leigh College. Thomas Rapson – A in Chemistry, B in Maths and B in Physics. Thomas who is a previous student at Culcheth High School is going to the University of Surrey to study Chemical Engineering. Ben Whitworth, who is a previous student of Fred Longworth High School is going to Northumbria University to study Architecture. Excited about the prospect of University, Ben said: “I’m really excited for University and can’t wait to get involved in University life. I will hopefully have a great future career in Architecture.” Wigan & Leigh College was also announced as one of the best in the North West, following results from a national student satisfaction survey.
