Community Engagement Project

On September 17, your cohort will present a community fundraising and engagement project to the Emerging Leaders group. Valleywise Health Foundation is excited about the opportunity to create meaningful engagements and relationships with Millennial donors entering the world of philanthropy. In this Community Engagement project, we challenge our Emerging Leaders cohorts to present a project plan for a plan to engage Millennial donors in the state of Arizona with Valleywise Health. The winning cohort will be awarded a max budget of $10,000 to accomplish the project. We encourage you to be creative and think outside the box for this project! In an effort to provide some guidelines, it will be measured by the following factors: Impact (fundraising and awareness) Innovation & Creativity Realistic to Execute Relevant to Millennial Donors Cost-Effective/Grassroots Effort Presentation Quality The project should also be focused on raising funds and awareness for one of our three pillars in the ALL IN Campaign listed below.

An Excellent Project Plan includes...

• Analysis of the scope of the project (engage Millennials donors with Valleywise Health), which explores the current landscape and research on millennial donating habits • Clearly communicated project theme and idea • Goals clearly listed for the impact this project will make • How many will you reach? (Virtual or in-person awareness goal) • How much will you raise? (Fundraising goal) • Clear communication and examples as to how the project sparks innovation or creativity • Examples or ideas as to how this project will appeal to Millennial donors • Timeline and action plan should your project be selected (completed by 12/31/2021) • Must take into consideration logistics, marketing and community engagement • A budget that is thoroughly researched and is as accurate as possible (max budget - $10,000) • Intentional ways to have other Emerging Leaders members involved in the project • A plan for how your cohort will lead the committees if your project is chosen • A presentation deck that is focused, creative and concise. It should be visual and interactive.

Examples of Project Ideas • Last December, a Xavier College Prep senior coordinated a Swim for the Light relay event where her team members raised funds for behavioral health programs at Valleywise Health.

• Cause marketing - partner with local businesses for round-up at the register or events • Ways to increase monthly donors using swag and incentives that appeal to Millennials • Volunteer event or donation drive • Social media awareness and fundraising campaign (ALS Challenge, The NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats,” Movember, World Wildlife Fund #LastSelfie campaign, etc.)

How will the winning project be chosen?

A panel of judges will review your presentation on September 17 as you present your project in front of the entire Emerging Leaders group. The judges will review your project and presentation based on a clearly defined rubric. At the end of the session, the winning team will be announced.

Community Engagement Project After the Winning Project is Chosen • After the project has been chosen, the winning team will meet with the Foundation team within a week to discuss hard deadlines for the project to ensure it is completed by 12/31.

• The official launch of the campaign or project needs to be announced 30 days after the winning project is selected • The winning team will present their project idea to our Valleywise Health Foundation board at our November board meeting.

• The timeline to launch the campaign will be shared with the entire Emerging Leaders group within two weeks after the project is selected. The winning team will be consulted on these decisions.

• Other Emerging Leaders members will sign up for one of three committees to help execute the campaign: Logistics, Marketing or Engagement.

• Logistics Committee is responsible for operations, budget and execution • Marketing Committee is responsible for promotion and communications • Engagement Committee is responsible for relationship-building with individuals and organizations

Winner Winner - Chicken Dinner!! (Incentives for the Winning Cohort) • An opportunity to win a trip to hike Mt. Kilimanjaro in June 2022 • Emerging Leaders mentors will vote on one person in the winning cohort who rose above the rest to join Team Courage Rising in Tanzania next year.

(Trip is valued at $5,000 - does not include airfare. The trip can be transferred to another individual or redeemed at a later time).

• An opportunity to sit on a Foundation board committee • Members of the winning cohort can choose to join a Foundation Board committee starting in January 2022. They can choose between the following committees...

• Fundraising Committee • Governance Committee • Finance Committee • A table to our signature event - A Night in the Valley on October 16, 2021 • A commemorative plaque for each member of the winning cohort • A feature in the Phoenix Business Journal about the project and winning team • LinkedIn testimonials from members of the Valleywise Health Foundation board and staff
