Dr. Mandel’s Message

Dear Parents/Guardians - Good Evening! I hope that your extended weekend was restful and helped you and your family recharge for the weeks ahead. In this Tiger Beat, I want to share just a few items of importance: In the coming days if you have a 10th or 11th grade student, I anticipate that you will hear about the PSAT, which will be given on October 14th on our campus. I encourage you to talk with your student about taking the test, and if you plan for him/her to take the test, please meet the deadline to sign up and pay in the Bookstore. There is additional information attached in case you have questions about the PSAT. Our student attendance rate is doing great – and we all play a role in encouraging excellent attendance to school. I know the tremendous efforts that parents/guardians make to get students to school every day and on time. Please continue to help us and your student by promoting effective habits surrounding attendance. I have been struck by the high number of parents and students who have come to our evening events to support clubs or sports teams. It is wonderful to see so many fans and supporters wearing Marana t-shirts and cheering-on or supporting our students. I want to make sure that you know that your presence has been noticed and is appreciated. If you have not come to a game or a club meeting, I want to invite you to our campus or to an away match to see firsthand the talented and dedicated students. Have a great week,

In This Beat

CTE SPOTLIGHT MHS Fire Science Program At MHS we are very proud to offer a diverse array of CTE/JTED programs. The integration of these programs throughout our curriculum is just one of the many opportunities for students that our comprehensive high school provides. Throughout the year we will be sharing glimpses into the programs with you. Please take a look at our new Fire Science Program.

MHS FIRE SCIENCE PROGRAM This year, Marana High School students have an opportunity to explore careers in Fire Science. The Fire Science course utilizes Arizona State Career and Technical Education standards along with measurement criteria for the Fire Service. Students will explore Fire Service in all areas from tradition and history of the Fire Service to prevention and water supply. This is a hands-on course includes projects, active discussions, student presentations, and incorporates a strength aptitude with opportunities for students to assess the physical demands of fire service work. Students will be exposed to a variety of guest speakers and examine viewpoints and perspectives in the field. Training will be provided to operate a variety of firefighting and lifesaving equipment and students will be working alongside of firefighters in the community. During this program, students can acquire multiple certifications including their incident command system certifications, First Aide, CPR, and AED. Marana High School

PBIS Information

ROCKIN’ the PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports are in place. We are looking to reward students for their positive interactions in the classroom by being respectful to your teachers when they are teaching, for picking up your trash at lunch, and being kind to one another on campus. Ask your child tonight. “Did you get a PBIS incentive card today?” and ask why. Your support in promoting PBIS at home will help us to increase the positive interactions in your student’s life. If you are able to assist this wonderful system by providing donations of treats, snacks or drinks it is always appreciated. You can drop them off at the front desk with the receptionist, Mrs. Vatterrodt.
