Dr. Mandel’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians, By the time many of you read this message, it might be September already. Many students have finished taking their first round of tests in their classes and before we know it, December will be here. Even though the school years tend to feel as though they fly by, as a MHS Faculty and Staff we are making a conscious effort to remember the power and influence of our daily interactions with each other, students, parents and our broader community. To this end, when your student shares a positive experience that happened in a classroom or on campus or because of a teacher or staff member I want to ask you to consider taking a moment to reach out and let that person know. The following are some reminders from the previous Tiger Beat: This point in the school year is also where we tend to see attendance play a major role in academic success. Absences can add up quickly, and we know that students who are in the classroom receiving instruction and participating daily do better and feel better in school. We absolutely understand that students will miss some school days because of illness or appointments, but please try to schedule appointments before or after school if you are able. We also ask that you excuse medical appointments by providing a note from a medical provider. I want to let you know that we will be taking a proactive approach towards helping students maintain good attendance by recognizing students with good or improving attendance, and by meeting with students who show signs that they are struggling with daily attendance. I also need to extend a “thank you” to our parents/guardians for helping us to address dress code this year. I have noticed that since I started talking about dress code with the students and in my communication with you, there has been a noticeable improvement. Please continue to help us by helping your student make appropriate clothing choices for school based on the Marana School District and MHS Dress Code.

We will be continuing our Instructional Intervention period this week on Thursday from 3:00 – 3:40. Students are assigned to their 6th period teacher and they are allowed to travel using a pass system to other classrooms for intervention (i.e. make-up work, assessments, instruction, enrichment). We believe that dedicating this time for students and teachers is important, so please support this effort by talking with your student about what schoolwork can be accomplished. Dr. David Mandel, Principal Marana High School If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 616-6400 or email: D.P.Mandel@maranausd.org.
