PREPARING to cut the birthday cakes at Forest Town and District U3A.

Happy birthday U3A FOREST Town and District U3A celebrated its first birthday with the cutting of not one, but two birthday cakes as the group now has 160 members. The celebration included a speaker; displays of craft, family and local history; and members of the play-reading group dressed in costume. The U3A group is open to anyone who is retired or semi-retired, and new members are always welcome. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of a month at St Alban’s Church, Forest Town, at 1.45pm, for around two hours. People who are interested in finding out more about the group can initially attend as a visitor, listen to a speaker and talk to existing members during the coffee break. Sky high with Stags

TWO youngsters and their mums enjoyed the experience of a lifetime when they were flown over Mansfield in a helicopter by football club chairman John Radford. Ten-year-olds Faye Marsh and Harvey Simpson, of Farmilo Primary School, Pleasley, won the private helicopter trip as part of a competition during a visit to the school by Mansfield Town FC’s owner. The helicopter ride started from a field adjacent to Stags’ proposed new training site on Woburn Lane, Pleasley. Faye said: “That’s probably one of the best experiences I’ll ever have in my life. John Radford is a kind man who cares about Mansfield.” Faye’s mum, Julie, added: “It was an absolutely fantastic experience and a very generous gesture by Mr Radford.”
