one mann’s opinion

Rolling into September, Mann About Town is excited to bring you exclusive features and events. Before we dive into the midst of it all I’d like to thank our September cover issue this month, Isabelle Bscher. In light of what is going on in the world, Alex and I are excited to have a great article about Bscher’s art career and her well-known family with her Great-grandfather who in World War II aided Jewish people. I learned so much from this exclusive article and I hope you enjoyed the article as much as I did.

As mentioned in my letter last month, we had our annual Mann Charitable Golf Outing in August. This year, we honored Marc Grossman from Wells Fargo and Jamie Litvack, president of Bagatelle International. The Foundation donates to Alzheimer research, geriatric diseases, Crohn’s and colitis, breast cancer and liver diseases as well as to lymphoma and macular degeneration. It was a huge success as it was our most attended year.

I was thrilled to be able to see my good friend, Bradford Rand host his “Hamptons Concours” event. I’ve been to many of these first-class events and this year, he outdid himself. It was amazing to see old friends along with the luxury, high-class cars. The nicest event in The Hamptons was topped off with great gift bags.

Furthermore, I also attended the Northwell Health event. Although I work closely with Mount Sinai, I am attached to Northwell through my dear friends Attilio and Beverly Petrocelli. The Northwell Health Foundation opened a new surgical pavilion with the generous donation from the Petrocelli’s.

With events and features from a wide genre of topics, Mann About Town is honored to bring you exclusive content from month-to-month. As always, we thank our contributors and those who help bring each issue together! Enjoy the September issue!

““Life is made up, not of the great sacrifices or duties, but of little things, in which smiles and kindnesses, and small obligations, given habitually, are what win and preserve the heart and secure comfort.”

Welcome back to Mann About Town! Our September issue has so much to offer this month, and we can’t wait for you to dive right in. Starting off with our cover this month, Isabelle Bscher, whose Great-grandfather aided the Jewish population during World War II. After growing up in an art gallery, Bscher is now a Swiss Gallerist and an art historian running Galerie Gmurzynska, a gallery founded by her grandmother.

We have many other luxurious features including a caviar collaboration between a chef and a fashion designer, three must visit travel destinations and a new gallery opening to challenge the “norm” of fine art. Alongside the features, check out the events lined up and see what everyone was up to out on the town!

A personal favorite feature is the fall heel collection by Inez. With the new collection, Inez brings fall colors and designs into their mix allowing customers to continue to prioritize comfort throughout all seasons.

To pair with the fashion statement, experience the first-ever agave inspired fragrance line! Each scent is a unique combination inspired by the tasting notes found in each expression of tequila.

Step into fall with Mann About Town, enjoy the incoming pumpkin spice crave and enjoy our September issue!

Northwell Health Summer Hamptons Evening Event Raises Record $1.6M for Women’s Health Research and Programs

Northwell Health’s Katz Institute for Women’s Health raised a record-setting $1.6 million in support of women’s health research and programs at the sixth annual Summer Hamptons Evening (SHE).

This year’s fundraising surpasses the previous record of $1 million and brings the total raised since the event’s inception to more than $5 million. Three hundred supporters attended the event on August 3, which was held for the sixth consecutive year at the Water Mill, NY, residence of Victoria Moran-Furman, who hosted alongside lead sponsors Iris and Saul Katz (benefactors of Northwell’s Katz Institute), Eric Moran and celebrity event planner Larry Scott (of Lawrence Scott Events). Rosanna Scotto, anchor of “Good Day New York” on WNYW-Fox 5 News, served as emcee.

Supporters of the event are raising health for women in the communities Northwell serves. The Katz Institute for Women’s Health is driven by the Katzes’ vision that women at every life stage should receive access to the best individualized care and resources. The institute has created the only certified network of experts — including more than 850 clinicians, scientists and researchers — who are uniquely qualified to address the health care needs of women.

The evening featured a discussion between Stacey E. Rosen, MD, senior vice president for women’s health at Northwell, executive director of the Katz Institute and the Partners Council Professor of Women’s Health, and Eugenia Gianos, MD, director of cardiovascular prevention at Northwell and director of women’s heart health at Lenox Hill Hospital. Drs. Rosen and Gianos discussed Northwell’s unique ability to provide personalized, integrated care and programs to ensure a comprehensive continuum of cardiovascular care for all women.

“We see and treat women differently and invest continually in this care through research, clinical programs and patient-centered offerings,” said Dr. Rosen, who was named president-elect of the American Heart Association, the world’s leading nonprofit organization focused on heart and brain health, for 2024-2025. “It has enabled us to keep elevating a standard of care that is amplified throughout Northwell’s footprint.”

The event also highlighted the story of Northwell patient Monica Aliseo of Farmingdale, NJ, whose family has hypercholesterolemia, a genetic condition that causes dangerously high levels of cholesterol, increasing risk of heart disease and other cardiovascular issues.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States, noted Dr. Gianos, who chairs the American College of Cardiology’s Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease Section and treats almost a dozen members of Aliseo’s family, including her siblings, children, nieces and nephews.

“We are on a mission to help women like Monica safeguard their health from one generation to the next so they can live longer, better lives,” said Dr. Gianos. “This includes all aspects of their care, from heart and brain health to gynecological care and healthy aging, as part of a holistic model of care. This paradigm of providing a patient-focused, aggressive prevention plan much earlier in life truly sets Northwell apart.”

The SHE event advances Northwell’s “Outpacing the Impossible” campaign, a comprehensive $1.4 billion fundraising effort that supports Northwell’s promise to the people it serves. The campaign’s objectives include improving hospitals and clinical programs, accelerating research and funding endowment.

In addition to the lead sponsors, other supporters for the evening included Premier Sponsors Beth & Peter Hammack and Iris & Michael Smith and Champion Sponsors Diane & Adam Blank; Burner Prudenti Law, P.C.; Margaret M. Crotty & Rory Riggs; Michelle & Robert Fox; Dr. Paul Jarrod Frank; Alicia & Frank Grande and Grande Cosmetics; Ideal Home Health; Alyssa & Todd Katz; Dayle & Michael Katz; Shari Levine & David Augarten; The Lipsay Family Charitable Foundation; Adita & Marcus Mordachini; Cori & Kenny Orr; and Ruth & Michael Slade.

“Job” The Hippie and The Tech Bro

“Job” at The Hayes Theater originally played at Soho Rep and then moved to The Connolly Theater on the lower east side before moving to “The Great White Way,” scheduling an end July opening. The show has two characters, Lloyd (Peter Friedman) and Jane (Sydney Lemmon), a modest, modern set and many words in this 80-minute play.

“Job” will appeal to various theater goers. Lloyd, is a hippy psychologist; he believes in the old hippie ways, the psychedelic age of escapism, the by-gone days on Height and Ashbury, a city he still lives in. His patient, Jane, works for an elite tech firm in the Bay Area. She went viral on social media when she went ballistic at work one day and is forced to see Lloyd on her companies orders to evaluate whether she is fit to keep her job.

The play has many comedic lines throughout the play. Jane is both obsessive and compulsive, but her constant panic brings out the most humor here. She states to her shrink being born and raised in the Midwest as an only child “ruined her.” Writer Max Wolf Friedlich has many corky lines throughout the play and at times is reminiscent of a T.V. sitcom, we get a neurotic person who brings ironic comedy to the crowd.

“Job” is not without its problems. The plot can delve a bit. It would have been better if Friedlich had more banter about the hippie 60s versus the tech 2000s. Both groups have many similarities, the anti-establishment beliefs, the Bohemian lifestyles and the disdain for conformity. Instead, the writer only touches on this subject. It would have also been a stronger play if it didn’t bounce around so many subjects in such a short running time. Where Peter Friedman

turns in an admirable performance, Sydney Lemmon seems like a one note actor, she is very monotone throughout the play and at times, difficult to hear. Director Michael Herwitz tries to show Lemmon as a true techie nerd with many different issues about society as well as herself, instead, he has her to subdued and flat. The lighting by Mextly Couzin at times has the actors with a modeled effect on stage and it made it difficult to pick up their faces. The extreme fade-out scenes too are a bit peculiar and often get in the way of the intensity of the play.

“Job,” with some shortcomings is an overall edgy, exotic play with excellent sound by Cody Spenser. While the ending is unique, it is predictable at the same time. The play has many twists and turns and keeps the audience engrossed with great suspense. The play must be carefully watched because it has little subplots that are barely noticeable to the passive eye. Missing any of the clues that the writer gives us as to where he is taking the play will leave anyone in the last ending moments guessing as to how the play will end. The attentive viewer who picks up the writer’s inflections will figure out how the play ends before it’s over!

Seek Life’s Best Moments with Camp Caviar

Launched this summer, Camp Caviar has taken a playful take on the luxurious indulgence. The collaboration between Chef Julian Medina and Chelsea Laviano, Fashion Designer and owner of Laviano, Southampton Boutique, was designed to be enjoyed at home, the beach or at El Verano where its incorporated multiple dishes. The Hamptons, home to both El Verano and Laviano, which relies heavily on its beach environment is the inspiration behind the rooted beach theme.

“We believe that caviar shouldn’t be confined to formal occasions but should be enjoyed as a versatile, accessible luxury that enhances any setting,” Laviano said. “From casual gatherings to grand celebrations.”

Medina and Laviano have a shared commitment to creativity, luxury and precision that blends the ideas of a fashion designer and a chef. Caviar is often seen as a culinary delicacy and a sophistication symbol, both values that are often seen in culinary and fashion. “This partnership allows us to merge our creative visions offering a product that embodies elegance and the finer things in life,” Laviano said.

With any product collaboration comes multiple roles, blending every idea into one. Laviano and Medina both had individual roles to create Camp Caviar. Staying true to the design aspect, Laviano was the visionary behind the brand, from the label to the beach concept. Medina was responsible for the sourcing of the caviar and creating the display to incorporate it into many Mexican dishes.

The caviar industry is exploding, and Camp Caviar is making it their mission to reimagine how people experience caviar. “We source the finest, sustainably harvested caviar, but also we emphasize a modern approach, making it accessible for a variety of occasions,” Laviano said. Camp Caviar is sustainability farm raised in the Lake of 1,000 Islands, a heavily regulated region of China.

“It is a protected park area in China where no other industry is allowed within 100km of their waters,” Laviano said. “American customers sometimes raise their eyebrows at food products from China but this company, Kaluga Queen, is unequivocally one of the best in the entire world for not only quality, but safety and consistency as well.”

Camp Caviar’s Ossetra and Imperial Caviar has a few similarities as well as a few differences. The Ossetra is medium sized, semi-firm, with a darker color, and a nutty, buttery flavor. The Imperial Caviar is harvested less often with a lighter golden color, larger beads while also being nutty and buttery. Both are sustainably raised, staying true to Camp Caviar’s commitment along with their quality and spirit of exploration.

In the future, Camp Caviar sees themselves in more restaurants to bring their products to others seeking the perfect blend of sophistication and spontaneity.

MAISON SOLÍS UNVEILS THE WORLD’S FIRST AGAVEINSPIRED FRAGRANCE LINE

WINE & SPIRITS INDUSTRY PIONEER JOSEPH D. SOLÍS INTRODUCES THREE EXCLUSIVE FRAGRANCES THAT PAY HOMAGE TO MOTHER AGAVE AND THE EXPRESSIONS OF TEQUILA

Maison Solís, founded by renowned wine and spirits industry expert Joseph D. Solís, proudly announces the debut of the world’s first agave-inspired niche fragrance line. This innovative collection pays homage to Solís’ cultural connection to agave, his Mexican Chicano roots and 25 years in the tequila space, celebrating his heritage through the art of scent.

Inspired by the rich cultural significance of agave and its transformative journey into tequila, each fragrance in the collection — Blanco, Reposado and Añejo — encapsulates the essence of these distinct expressions. Joseph D. Solís collaborated closely with an esteemed fragrance consultant, Ethan Turner, sommelier turned perfumer, to meticulously craft each scent, deconstructing the world’s finest tequilas to craft unique combinations inspired by the tasting notes found in each expression.

“Agave is more than a plant; it’s ancestral and sacred, deeply rooted in my heritage and my passions,” says Joseph D. Solís, founder and CEO of Maison Solís and SOL Hospitality Group. “With over 25 years in the luxury wine & spirits space inclusive of agave, I developed this fragrance line to honor the nectar of the Gods and evoke the emotional journey it takes us on — from the crisp citrus notes of Blanco to the luxurious depths of aged Añejo.”

BLANCO by Maison Solís Eau de Parfum ($110 MSRP; 30ML) captures the exhilarating freshness of agave’s earliest stage, offering bright citrus notes that embody the vibrancy and excitement of tequila’s initial expression. Bright and crisp, yet robust and complex, it transports wearers to the sun-kissed agave fields found in the Highlands of Tequila, Mexico, with notes of fresh agave rooted in red clay soil, ripe citrus, coconut and cedar.

REPOSADO by Maison Solís Eau de Parfum ($120 MSRP; 30ML) embodies the nuanced complexity of slightly rested tequila, blending warm spices and oak undertones to evoke a sense of refinement and maturity. A marriage of sweet roasted agave and whiskey-aged wood barrels, Reposado by Maison Solís is like the magic of a “Golden Hour” sunset on a warm afternoon as the sun gives way to the mystique of the night.

AÑEJO by Maison Solís Eau de Parfum ($140 MSRP; 30ML) gives you permission to release your inhibitions and play with fire. This scent pays homage to aged tequila, with deep, sensual notes of caramel, vanilla and wood that reflect the richness and depth found in the finest Añejos. Bold and complex, Añejo by Maison Solís awakens deep feelings of power and desire with seductive expressions of charred rum barrels, Flor de Jamaica, caramelized agave, bouquets of spices, aged leather, fireside smoke and a touch of exotic Oud Assam.

Each fragrance bottle is elegantly designed to reflect the essence of its tequila counterpart, from the clear, sleek lines of Blanco to the opaque, smoky hues of Añejo. A Discovery Set featuring 5 ML of each Eau de Parfum allows enthusiasts to explore the full spectrum of expressions for $60 MSRP.

After working in the luxury wine & spirits industry for over two decades, Solís fueled his passion for luxury, cocktail curation and the art of at-home entertaining with his rich cultural roots to create Maison Solís. The brand embodies his desire to craft luxury goods that bring people together to celebrate life’s special moments. For Solís, scent has always been a major inspiration in his life. “As a child, with humble beginnings, fragrance always served as an escape for me. I remember working as a teenager and saving up my money to buy department store fragrances; one spray would transport me to another place. Fragrance was fantasy, aspiration and hope,” continues Solís.

The Maison Solís agave-inspired fragrance line is a testament to Solís’ commitment to innovation and his passion for honoring cultural heritage and expertise in luxury wine and spirits through scent. It invites fragrance enthusiasts and tequila aficionados alike to embark on a sensory journey that celebrates the essence of agave in a whole new way. Agave will be the first iteration of Maison Solís’ scent stories as Solís continues to release annual themed fragrances that weave the aromas of the finest wine & spirits and cocktails of the world to elevate the olfactory experience to new heights.

The professionals at L’Oréal discovered a way to inject five amino acids and 2% peptides bonder. The technology adapted allows for healthier-looking, flowy hair. Due to the chemicals used in this formula, the collection is suggested for people with damaged hair whether that be from chemical, mechanical or environmental damage.

For optimal use, it is recommended to use the repair method until the hair feels stronger, looks healthier and has increased movement. The sulfate-free shampoo is used to gently cleanse and nourish the hair, which is followed by the rinse-off serum that penetrates and repairs the hair. After applying the hair mask and letting it sit for two minutes, complete your routine with the leave-in mask to smooth the hair’s fiber, providing frizz control and heat protection. The team at L’Oréal suggests using as follows:

Absolut Repair Molecular Shampoo hair in a layering technique. Rinse thoroughly.

- Apply directly on

Absolut Repair Molecular Rinse-off Serum

Use on wet, detangled hair. Divide the hair in two sections. Press two-to-three pumps of the serum onto hands. Distribute & smooth evenly from lengths to ends. For very dry hair, apply from roots to ends. If desired, follow with a mask or conditioner from your usual routine. Rinse thoroughly.

Absolut Repair Molecular Hair Mask

– After rinsing out the Absolut Repair

Molecular Rinse-Off Serum, apply the mask generously and evenly to towel-dried hair. Leave on for two minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

Absolut Repair Molecular Leave-In Cream - Apply on clean, towel-dried hair. Divide the hair in two. Apply one pump on each side from lengths to ends. Add more if required. Leave in. Proceed to blow dry or air dry and style as usual.

BLURRING THE LINES: HYBRID BEAUTY

Photos courtesy of Peter Thomas Roth

The “no-makeup” makeup look is here to stay, and naturally healthy-looking skin is at the forefront. Instead of tutorials on how to expertly cover up imperfections with more makeup, the latest tutorials are all about how to expertly care for your skin so that you require less makeup! As a result, makeup-skin care hybrid products have expanded from basic BB and CC Creams to include products in every category, from line-smoothing eyeshadow to skin-brightening concealer.

One makeup-skin care hybrid that has become overwhelmingly popular in recent years is the multi-use stick. Designed for use on eyes, lips and cheeks, multi-use sticks are touted as makeup with added skin care benefits.

For more on the makeup-skin care hybrid category and rise of multi-use sticks, we turned to skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth. An influential segment leader in the beauty industry, Peter is known for creating clinically stronger formulas and leads all research and development at his state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility.

The newest innovation to emerge from Peter’s lab is Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Stick. Here, Peter talks about his breakthrough formula and the evolving world of hybrid beauty products.

What inspired you to create Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks?

I love the idea of makeup-skin care hybrids, and the multi-use stick concept is just brilliant! However, the current hybrid cosmetic products focus on makeup fi rst and skin care benefits as a bonus. With my clinical skin care background, I saw an opportunity to innovate. Since day one, I’ve always formulated with the most effective active ingredients at the highest percentage possible and my Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks are a perfect example of that! Available in three universal shades, each stick is infused with a 10% Collagen Complex—an unprecedented level of clinical skin care potency in a multi-use stick.

Anything else that makes Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks different?

My multi-use sticks blur the lines between makeup and skin care more than ever before! As a skin-fi rst product, they provide a true clinical fi rming and plumping treatment, plus buildable color and glow. My Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks are clinically proven to improve the look of skin elasticity instantly and over time, and after just one week 96% of my customers agreed their skin appeared plump and their cheek area had a youthful bounce.

What are your tips for achieving healthier-looking skin—and wearing less makeup?

If you have a cleansed and exfoliated canvas, your skin care treatment products will work better and your skin will look better, so you can go with no makeup or less! Consistent cleansing and exfoliating are so important, as well as giving your skin the proper hydration. Of course, my Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks are also helpful for wearing less makeup! They double as a fi rming and plumping serum and are also multi-use, so you can reduce the number of makeup products in your routine.

How should customers use your multi-use sticks?

The three universal shades work on all skin tones and are so versatile. The formula is sheer but buildable and melts effortlessly into your skin. My customers tell me the Bronze Glow shade provides the perfect sun-kissed warmth to the forehead and cheekbones, and even works well as eye shadow! The Blush Glow shade is great for getting that rosy flush on your cheeks and lips, and the Sheer Glow shade is amazing for highlighting! You’re going to look gorgeous.

Besides the 10% Collagen Complex, what other skin care ingredients are in your multi-use sticks?

To achieve the best fi rming and plumping results, my chemists and I also formulated my Instant FIRMx® Collagen Bounce Sticks with Hyaluronic Acid Filling Spheres and Matrixyl® 3000 Peptides. The combination of the 10% Collagen Complex and these ingredients provides the perfect plumping, hydrating and fi rming trifecta. I can’t wait for you to see the difference in your skin!

KRAAM

New ThAi ResTAuRANT OpeNs iN NOMAd

Kraam, by Owner Pongsathorn Thinnuch, an alumnus of JoJo by Jean-Georges and Hutong, takes its name from the Thai word “Kraam” meaning indigo or organic dye. This word signifies both craft and wisdom handed down through generations. The innovative Thai restaurant showcases Pongathorn’s extensive knowledge of Thai cuisine, combined with his experience in some of NYC’s top restaurants. He and his team of Thai cooks create original recipes and traditional Thai dishes using a premium, seasonal selection of local seafood, meat and vegetables to bring a creative new twist to Thai cuisine.

The restaurant’s interior is inspired by Pongathorn’s native Thailand, his travels throughout various regions and his stays at exclusive resorts. As you enter Kraam, the space is bathed in natural light from 25-foot-high floor-to-ceiling windows that open onto Fifth Avenue. Elements of gold, marble, vibrant colors, intricate patterns and organic shapes set the tone for a cozy, yet elegant atmosphere. There is also an extensive collection of vintage porcelain mixed with vintage milk glass displayed throughout the restaurant as a nod to craft. A long white marble bar with arched mirrors and powder blue walls, enhanced by soothing recessed lighting, leads you into the central dining room. A striking gold orchid accent wall and banquet seating add to the sophisticated décor, while weaved leaf-shaped wicker light fixtures float above.

Guided by the seasons, the menu features dishes designed for sharing, all artistically plated on an eclectic array of plateware, making each dish a part of the overall experience.

Starters: Razor Clams, wok-fried razor clams sauteed in garlic white pepper with spicy Thai-chimichurri dipping sauce; Prawn Satay, grilled prawns with sweet-mild spicy peanut, mung bean sauce, rice vermicelli and vegetables; and Chicken Curry Tart, savory curried potato, minced chicken, sweet radish, caramelized onion with vegetable relish.

Thai Piquant Salads: standouts are Lump Crab, generous chunks of delicious crab meat delicately folded into a creamy coconut base mixed with kaffir lime, chili and tamarind, a whole soft-shell crab, and a mini wicker basket with butter lettuce and colorful crudités, and Grilled Artichoke Hearts Salad, hand-pulled chicken tossed with coconut milk, chili jam, toasted coconut and fried shallots.

Vegetable & Tofu: Green Curry, a sweet-spicy Thai green curry with roasted market vegetables and Kua Kling, wok-fried crispy

tofu, garlic, Thai chili and scallion.

Fish: Choo Chee butterfly crispy branzino in a choo-chee curry sauce, sweet and spicy creamy coconut milk and kaffir lime, and Kang Som, marinated crispy branzino filet with Thai spicy and sour curry served with seasonal vegetables.

Sushidelic

Revitalizes its Brand to Celebrate its First Year Anniversary

Sushidelic is not your traditional Japanese restaurant, nor does it aspire to be. It differentiates itself by its eclectic, immersive Kawaii experience of cuteness mixed with the Japanese Harajuku Street culture of Tokyo. Sushidelic is a joint venture between AUTEC (a leading manufacturer of commercial sushi robots that equip food service businesses globally) and Asobi Systems (an entertainment company that manages Japanese Pop artists). Designed by artist Sebastian Masuda, also known as the “Godfather of Kawaii” and responsible for Kawaii Monster Café in Tokyo, as well as the fashion label 6%DOKIDOKI to create a surreal world of maximalist design.

Upon entering Sushidelic, diners are greeted by a hostess wearing a Japanese-inspired “Monster Girl” Costume. The most prominent design feature is the three sizeable hanging cat sculptures, named Tasty, Sassy and Cute. They are surrounded by suspended lipstick chandeliers, mirrored ceilings, rainbow flooring and LED lighting, which are all part of the fun.

At the sushi bar, a custom conveyor belt circulates throughout the bar and kitchen, carrying original sculptures by Masuda, such as neon teddy bears, bejeweled red stilettos, pink bow-shaped purses and a six-course omakase named Pure Imagination. The omakase showcases unique items such as a Caviar Scallop Macaron, a sweet macaron stuffed with caviar, Hokkaido scallop, salmon roe, fior di latte, yuzu and pepper cream; Sushi Go Round, presented on a Barbie pink Ferris wheel complete with a California roll, a Wagyu Uni Roll, an Eel Avocado Roll and Nigiri (salmon, tuna and Hamachi); and the grand finale a Chirashi Parfait, a savory play on the French dessert, which includes layers of tuna, salmon and Hamachi sashimi, Ikura and seasonal vegetables over pink sushi rice.

Each dish and cocktail from Sushidelic are meticulously showcased in fun, unique presentations with a dash of cuteness. Diners will be greeted by their “Monster Girl” server and given a briefing on their experience.

One of Sushidelic’s favorite menu presentations is the colorful dipping sauces, presented on a painter’s palette with flavor profiles of Uzu (Yellow), Spicy Mayo (pink), Wasabi (Dark Green), Ponzu Mayo (light green) Carrot-Ginger (Orange), Sesame (Black), with pink ginger.

Standout a la carte dishes include Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice, spicy tuna garnished with Fresno peppers and fried garlic; Toru Taku Roll, Medium Fatty tuna, with pickled daikon radish and chives; Nigiri, salmon, Hamachi, Ebi, Yellowfin Tuna, Scallop, Uni; and Sashimi, Faroe Islands Salmon, Bluefin Tuna, Uni.

Entrees include Miso-Glazed Black Cod, marinated in Sakiyo miso; Wagyu Tataki Steak, wagyu beef served with vegetables and a dash of wasabi sauce; and Mushroom Nabe Hot Pot, assorted mushrooms, kelp dashi and ponzu sauce bathed in a vegetarian broth.

New menu items include the Harajuku Parfait Deluxe, a festive assortment of the chef’s imagination or Green Tea Cheesecake, Monaka Ice Cream Sandwich and Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse, served by a Monster Girl with a large sparkler that lights up the room.

Keeping with the Kawaii playfulness, each drink is presented in bespoke glassware. Shochu and sake-based cocktails include Lovely in Pink, a blend of Shochu and lemon soda garnished with raspberries and lychee; Sugar Plum Spritz, a mix of plum wine and Prosecco finished with cranberry, lime, rock candy and glitter; Strawberry Dreams, strawberry-infused shochu, sweet Vermouth, basil and lemon; and Matcha Tea Tini, Shochu, matcha, honey lemon and orange bitters, topped with an Instagram-able smoke bubble.

Mocktails include Indigo Stardust, lavender syrup and club soda with lemon; Zombie Love, pineapple juice, cranberry float, ginger, agave and lime; and Yuzu Soda, yuzu juice, club soda and agave.

Sushidelic is ideal for celebratory occasions and events, including social gatherings and catering.

Sushidelic has an online store and boutique in the restaurant where one can buy branded merchandise and accessories, such as Sushidelic baseball hats, tote bags, vinyl placemats and plush animals.

A Gallerist Living a Life Deeply Intertwined with Art

Isabelle Bscher, proprietor of New York and Zurich-based Galerie Gmurzynska, was planning for her new show at her East 78th Street NYC gallery, which included works by Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Yves Klein, Dan Basen and Tom Wesselmann, when we spoke for this article. She had just come back from her time in Aspen, where the gallery exhibited at the debut of the Aspen Art Fair featuring a special presentation by six -time Olympian Prince Hubertus of Hohenlohe-Langenburg alongside works by Robert Indiana, Marjorie Strider, Joan Miró and a Pablo Picasso with a $3.5 million price tag. She also exhibits in Los Angeles, where she curated an exhibition of painter Anh Duong at Spring Place. She was tapped as a curator for the LA and New York locations of the private membership club, both of which are designed by Kulapat Yantrasast of WHY Architecture, renowned for his work on major art spaces, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago.

Bscher jokes that she learned to walk at Art Basel, accompanying her mother to the fair since infancy. “The gallery and my life have been so deeply intertwined, it’s hard to separate one and the other,” she says. “I felt from a very early point that I was part of it; I always knew I wanted to be a gallerist.”

Working full time at the gallery by age 22, Bscher remembers how excited she was to work with artists. “One of the first exhibits I was able to co-organize was with Hedi Slimane, who in addition to being a phenomenal fashion designer is also a great photographer,” Bscher says. After relocating the gallery to Zurich, another early-career thrill for Bscher was working on the Alexander Calder show that launched the new space. “I remember specific shows that meant a lot.”

Now with four locations, two in Zurich, one in the affluent Swiss enclave of Zug, and another in New York City, they represent major modern artists like Picasso, Kandinsky, James Turrell, Robert Indiana and Yves Klein, as well as Karl Lagerfeld’s photography, Sylvester Stallone’s paintings and architects Zaha Hadid and Richard Meier, who has used the gallery’s catalogues in his collages, and who once designed their booth at Art Basel Miami. Galerie Gmurzynska represents the estates of prominent artists including Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Nevelson and Spanish surrealist Joan Miró, with whose family Bscher works closely.

GREAT-GRANDFATHER SAVED OPPENHEIM BANK

Other family members have also occupied distinguished positions in various fields. Her godfather was Baron von Thyssen, the Swiss industrialist who amassed one of the world’s greatest private art collections – widely considered better than that of the British royal family. Bscher’s father, Dr. Thomas Bscher, a banker, is a racecar driving enthusiast who won a world championship with McLaren at the GTR Euroseries in 1998. He later became CEO of Bugatti, the exotic carmaker. The gallerist’s Great-grandfather, Robert Pferdmenges was a prominent German banker, a Protestant, who aided Jews during the Nazi era and became influential in post-war politics.

Bscher’s father came from a very old German family that had started out as cotton merchants. Her great-grandfather was a well-known person. He joined Oppenheim Bank, then the largest private bank in Europe, as a partner around 1930. Under Nazi law, Oppenheim’s Jewish owners were forced to step aside, and the bank was “Aryanized,” its name changed to “Robert Pferdmenges & Co.” After the war, he returned control of the bank to the Oppenheim family. It was one of only two businesses seized from Jews that were given back to the original owners after the war. Oppenheim continued in business until 2010, when it was acquired by Deutsche Bank in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.

Pferdmenges then became influential in German politics, helping Konrad Adenauer, a close associate, to become the country’s first post-war chancellor. The Marshall plan for the reconstruction of Germany was designed at Pferdmenges’ house, and he cofounded the Christian Democratic Union, which was the party of Angela Merkel. He is often given credit for Germany’s post-war economic miracle.

SOUGHT-AFTER GUEST CURATOR

An art historian who studied contemporary art in London and New York and earned a master’s degree from Sotheby’s, Bscher is in demand to curate shows at museums around the world. Previously, she co-curated a Miró exhibit at Villa Paloma, the New National Museum of Monaco, under the guidance of Prince Albert. It included early works and lesser-known later pieces, some of which had never been shown before, as well as some that are a part of pop culture, like the painting behind Gordon Gekko’s desk in the movie Wall Street. “It was a great show. It actually drew the most visitors ever to the museum in Monaco, and it was at the height of Covid,” Bscher said. Bscher organized a retrospective of Sylvester Stallone’s 55year painting career for the Osthaus Museum in Hagen, Germany. “It’s a beautiful museum; it’s going to be a big show called ‘Painting for 55 Years.’ He’s been making paintings since the mid-1960s, and I think people have a certain perception of him, but he is very sophisticated, with a great use of color and form in his work.” Stallone is also a lot of fun, Bscher notes. Galerie Gmurzynska began representing the actor’s paintings after he purchased some art there while in Zurich about twelve years ago. “He came in, he was very nice, and he started telling us about his work, and we looked at his work and were really impressed,” she said.

FORMING ALLIANCES WITH CREATIVE GENIUSES

At various art fairs Bscher has collaborated with renowned creatives like Baz Luhrmann and the late Germano Celant, artistic director of the Prada Foundation who passed away from Covid in 2020, on designing her gallery’s booths. “We’re very well known for working with creative geniuses who might be from other backgrounds, like Zaha Hadid,” Bscher says. In fact, the gallery’s Paradeplatz location in Zurich houses the late architect’s very last interiors project, a design for an exhibition celebrating Dada master Kurt Schwitters, in 2016. Bscher brought film director Baz Lurhmann in to create a classroom-like set for an Art Basel Miami show with the theme “My kid could have done that. You know how when people see a great artwork and they say, my kid could have done that? We took great masters, like Kandinsky and Twombly, and we showed why your kid couldn’t have done that.”

LAGERFELD’S WIT, ZAHA HADID’S EXPERTISE, VON THYSSEN’S EXTRAVAGANCE

Living among such colorful characters, Bscher certainly has stories to tell. She calls Karl Lagerfeld “the king of the one-liner.” “Everything he said was incredibly funny. He’d ask me about somebody, and I’d say, ‘They have a lot of tattoos,’ and he would say, ‘Having a tattoo is like spending your whole life in a Pucci dress,’” Bscher said. She describes the late Chanel designer’s house in Paris as incredible; he did all the interiors himself and had impeccable taste.

He was an expert in many areas, like poetry and literature, constantly reading. “He was absolutely the most sophisticated person I’ve ever met.” Zaha Hadid was an expert on the Russian avantgarde, on which she wrote her thesis. This was an area in which Galerie Gmurzynska was a pioneer early on, and which helped make its name in the art world. They brought Hadid in to curate a show of her own work along with pieces from Bscher’s mother’s collection. She came up with a black-and-white theme, with Hadid’s work in the black section and the Russian avant-garde pieces in the white. “We started working with her closely after that, and then she designed the architecture of the gallery,” says Bscher. “She was a phenomenal person.” Bscher’s godfather, Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen, known as Heini, had one of the world’s most important art collections, full of priceless Old Masters, impressionists and expressionists, with everything from El Greco to Picasso to Van Gogh.

Three Mus T Visi T Fall Des T ina T ions

As the world transitions from the warmth of summer to the crisp embrace of autumn, here are three of our favorite fall must-visit travel destinations that are nothing short of magical. With the golden hues of fall leaves, far fewer crowds and a gentle chill in the air, autumn is an ideal time to travel to the sun-dappled vineyards of Tuscany, the shimmering Costa del Sol or the rugged landscapes of Scotland.

Tuscany, iTaly

Tuscany in autumn is a sight to behold. The rolling hills, usually verdant in spring and summer, take on shades of gold and amber as the vineyards prepare for harvest. The region is synonymous with fine wine, and visiting Tuscany during the fall means you can experience the grape harvest firsthand. The air is filled with the scent of ripening grapes as local wineries open their doors for tastings and tours, offering a glimpse into Tuscany’s viticultural heritage.

Beyond the vineyards, Medieval Tuscan towns such as Siena, San Gimignano and Lucca, are less crowded in autumn, allowing for more authentic exploration. Stroll through cobblestone streets, marvel at the architecture and indulge in seasonal

delicacies like truffles, chestnuts and porcini mushrooms. Florence’s galleries and museums are quieter for travelers interested in art, offering uninterrupted views of Michelangelo, Botticelli and Da Vinci masterpieces.

MaraBella, sPain

Marbella, located on Spain’s Costa del Sol, is a stunningly scenic destination that shines in autumn. While summer brings sweltering heat and plenty of tourists, fall offers a more serene experience with mild temperatures and quieter beaches. The Mediterranean Sea remains warm enough for swimming, and the “Golden Mile” coastal walks are delightful without the intense summer sun.

The Old Town of Marbella, with its narrow streets and whitewashed buildings, is perfect for leisurely exploration. Enjoy traditional tapas in a charming open-air courtyard, visit the local boutiques or simply relax in one of the many parks and gardens that come alive with fall colors. For the more adventurous, the Sierra Blanca Mountains offer hiking trails with breathtaking views of the coast and countryside, or you can visit nearby Gibraltar for a history lesson and expansive views of the African coastline.

scoTlanD

Scotland in autumn is simply enchanting. Its wild landscapes, from the Highlands to the Borders, are ablaze with fall colors, making it one of the most picturesque seasons. The air is fresh, the skies dramatic and the lochs and glens are at their most peaceful.

Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland’s vibrant cities, offer cultural experiences with fewer tourists. However, the true magic of Scotland in autumn lies in its countryside. Visit the Isle of Skye, Cairngorms National Park or Loch Lomond to witness the fiery foliage reflected in nearby waters. Scotland’s numerous castles, often shrouded in mist, add a touch of mystery and for whisky enthusiasts, this is an excellent time to tour Scotland’s distilleries, where the warmth of a dram is the ideal antidote to the brisk air.

Whether you are sipping wine in Tuscany, exploring the tranquil Costa del Sol or hiking the rugged landscapes of Scotland, autumn offers a unique and enriching travel experience. These destinations showcase the season’s natural beauty and provide cultural and culinary delights that make fall the perfect time to travel. Pack your bags, embrace the season and discover the magic autumn brings to these charming destinations.

Mixing Fall Tones with the Inez Aesthetic

Inez was founded in 2017 to transform our expectations of what contemporary heels can feel like without sacrificing aesthetics, construction or quality. Developed with proprietary insoles that provide arch support and pressure distribution, all Inez heels are designed in New York and handcrafted by artisans in Spain.

Founder and Creative Director, Hannah Spinelli brings over 20 years of experience at top fashion houses and a refi ned, modern take on design. Her vision for Fall 24 is centered around updated pumps and new boot silhouettes. Slingbacks (Coco, Mia and Diana) and Mary Janes (Celine and Cleo) continue to be important and are offered in a wide assortment of toe shapes and heel heights. Ankle wrap details on pumps (such as Maya) feel especially new and offer a fresh open back alternative to a classic slingback style.

“The Inez woman is stylish and enjoys dressing up, so our boots always have a refi ned and elegant sensibility, even on styles with lower heel heights. We have a best-selling knee-high boot (Paloma) in our core collection that we offer in both regular and extended calf options. For fall 24 I’m excited to add more tall boot styles to our collection. The Sylvia has a structured shaft, classic pointed toe and 3.5” stiletto heel, while my personal favorite Belen has a natural slouch and features an elongated snip toe with a sculpted 2” heel,” Spinelli said.

Elevated materials are essential to the Inez aesthetic, as the design philosophy is rooted in clean lines and pure shapes that emphasize leather quality and fi nishing. Material highlights this season include high shine offerings like Italian patent leather, mirror metallics and a new sultry midnight abrasivato. Core materials feature supple, yet resilient, Italian calf as well as buttery Spanish nappa and refi ned velvety suede.

“For me fall tones are always focused on the mood of New York city as the leaves change and the city begins to bustle after the sleepiness of summer. There’s an emphasis on harvest colors like chestnut, burgundy, nutmeg and mocha that look amazing in statement boots. Since fall has a polished and put together atmosphere, it’s a great time to update heels

in your work wardrobe with neutrals like camel, brown and black in sophisticated fi nishes,” Spinelli said. “Personally, I am loving Bronze metallic as a footwear trend this fall. We offer it in a sandal, a bootie and a tall boot. It’s great because it plays as both a metallic and a neutral and pairs well with black, navy and of course, brown. A bronze shoe is the answer to what to wear with a brown look this fall. It’s sultry, rich, warm and quietly sexy.”

“I think comfort is here to stay, but I don’t think comfort has to mean “casual.” I love that we bring the comfort experience into a category where it’s unexpected. Our customers can dress up and expect to feel at ease at the same time,” Spinelli said.

Sales have nearly doubled every year since Inez launched, so women are defi nitely responding to what they offer. Customers either already enjoy wearing heels and love the designs, for others the comfort features and width options are a complete game changer.

Rehs Contemporary challenges the norms of “fine art“ with tattoo, street and functional glass art.

While the art world is ever-changing, certain art forms and subject matter have long been overlooked by the fine art community. This fall, New York gallery Rehs Contemporary will embrace these underrepresented forms of artistic expression, challenging the traditional notions of “fine art.” With their first-of-its-kind exhibition, The Art of Subversion, opening on Friday, September 13, from 5-8 p.m., Rehs will feature a provocative blend of tattoo-inspired art, street art and functional glass art.

Curated by gallery director Lance Rehs, The Art of Subversion is a deliberate departure from the conventional art gallery landscape. The term ‘subversion’ is defined as “the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.” With that, the exhibition is a celebration of artistic rebellion to redefine what constitutes “fine art.”

This is not simply an exhibition to showcase these various art forms. The goal is to initiate a broader conversation about how artwork is understood in our contemporary world. For decades, street art was seen as no more than vandalism, and only recently has it gained recognition for its cultural value. Similarly, while the traditional medium of tattoo art has been around for centuries, it has only been in the last few years that our society has shaken the stigma associated with the art form. The same cannot exactly be said for functional glass art, more simply known as ‘smoking pipes’ as with tattoos, the art of pipe making and the medium of glass blowing has a profound history, yet it is an outsider in the art world.

The exhibition will feature new work from some of today’s premier artists working in these genres and mediums. Notably, street artists like Chris Guest, Bloodshed and Layercake bring a dynamic and rebellious spirit to the mix, while Jackee Sandelands-Strom captures tattoo art in intricate and vibrant detail, offering a fresh perspective on this marginalized art form. When it comes to functional glass art, several heavy hitters from the pipe scene will be making their art gallery debut. Two in particular are JP Toro, founder of Toro Glass and Nate Dizzle, creator of Swiss Perc. JP is revered for both his innovation and artistic detail, while Nate Dizzle has truly pushed the boundaries of borosilicate glassblowing.

“The Art of Subversion is more than just an exhibition; it is a revolutionary act,” says Rehs. He sees this as the start of something much bigger like a shift to embracing the art of our times.

The Art of Subversion will be on view from September 13 through October 11 and will be open to the public free of charge. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 13 from 5-8 p.m., as well as Saturday, September 14 from 12-5 p.m.

An Icon of Precious Elegance Ferragamo Secret

The Ferragamo Secret watch unveiled its precious edition, showcasing a more refined and luxurious interpretation of the timepiece as a unique jewel.

Crafted with artisanal charm, technical innovation and aesthetic sophistication, this dual-soul design by Creative Director Maximilian Davis combines the elegance of a luxurious accessory with the functionality of an exceptional watch powered by a quartz movement.

“Ferragamo Secret is a one-of-a-kind timepiece that strikes an impeccable balance between elegance and precision,” said Davis. “It’s an object of desire, exciting and enigmatic, concealing its true nature like a rare and precious jewelry piece.”

At first glance, it appears as a bracelet, but with a gentle press on the top panel, it reveals a dial adorned with precious stones and sparkling diamonds.

The line-up features exclusive variations with a motherof-pearl dial, set with 188 diamonds of 0.85 carats, and models with lapis lazuli, malachite or red agate dials, each adorned with 32 diamonds of 0.96 carats, and enriched by two blue sapphires, two emeralds or two rubies, respectively.

The meticulous craftsmanship of the five-link bracelet, echoed on the sliding panel engraved with the vertical Ferragamo logo, further enhances this design. The dial frame, hands, and small studs on the indexes recall the brilliance of the metallic finishes, reflecting a sense of aesthetic continuity between the watch’s exterior and interior.

The new Ferragamo Secret is available at Ferragamo boutiques, ferragamo.com and select specialty retailers worldwide. Customers also have the option to personalize their timepiece with letter engraving on the inside of the panel, and a dedicated program of in-store initiatives will be developed throughout the year.

Southampton Arts Center

Gregory, annual

Lizzo, Rhianna and Tyla are just a few of the celebrities who have worn Balmain on the red carpet. Balmain presented their new collection at the Southampton Arts Center (SAC) to VIPs including Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell. The institution’s co-founder Simone Levinson and socialites Jamee Gregory, Kara Ross and Nicole Salmasi hosted the Aphrodise rosé-fueled lunch. The luncheon was a precursor to SAC’s annual fundraising event, SummerFest, which honored New York philanthropists Peter and Jamee Gregory with the Champion of Arts Award. The event co-chairs included Hillary Geary and Wilbur Ross, the former Secretary of Commerce, composer Karen LeFrak and her husband, billionaire developer Richard LeFrak, and Audrey and Martin Gruss. Ariana De Bose, who won an Academy Award for her performance in “West Side Story,” socialite Kimberly Paige Bluhm, and Kimora Lee Simmons’ children — Ming Lee Simmons and Aoki Lee Simmons — are among the scene makers who support the Southampton Arts Center. Michael Strahan, who loves cars and car shows, had a custom Porsche 911, called the Tedson Daydream, built just for him this year that set him back $250,000. “I want the best one, the highest performance one,” he told the makers, and they delivered. Strahan, who showed the one-of-a-kind car at a New York car show earlier this year, and Georgina Bloomberg attended the opening of the Hamptons Concours, produced by Bradford Rand of Rand Luxury. The two VIPS were front and center at the event that showcased over 300 rare Ferraris, Porches and other collectible vehicles worth over 100 million dollars, including the 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, which was raced at Le Mans in the 60’s by the era’s most famous drivers like Dan Gurney, Carroll Shelby and Stirling Moss. The event supported the Southampton Animal Shelter. randluxury.com

Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s Race of Hope

Brooke Shields and her daughter Grier Henchy didn’t let the threat of rain keep them from fi nishing Audrey Gruss’s Hope for Depression Research Foundation’s 5k race in Southampton. Also on hand were several billionaires, including Karen LeFrak and Richard LeFrak and John Paulson with his fi ancée Alina de Almeida, fresh from co-hosting a big buck fundraiser for Donald Trump, as well as Social Life magazine’s editor in chief Devorah Rose. Over 1,000 people showed up with dogs and babies in carriages to walk around the Village of Southampton, which had been turned yellow, the signature shade of the organization, with over a hundred fl ags in front of the local businesses like Ralph Lauren, Veronica Beard and Paul Stewart, who all supported the Race of Hope. hopefordepression.org

God’s Love We Deliver Midsummer Night Drinks

Parrish Art Museum

Midsummer Weekend

Lisa and James Cohen threw open the doors of their far-flung oceanfront home and gorgeous gardens for God’s Love We Deliver’s 23rd Midsummer Night’s bacchanal. Vicente Wolf, Luann de Lesseps, Geoff rey Bradfield, Tamara Tunie and Victoria Brito were among the well-dressed attendees. The only God’s Love angels missing were Blaine Trump, one of the organization’s guiding lights, and Anna Wintour, who I saw cheering on the extraordinary Rafael Nadal at the Olympics in Paris. N’est-ce pas? Founded in 1985 as a response to the AIDS pandemic, God’s Love cooks and home-delivers medically tailored meals for individuals living with illness, as well as their children and caregivers. With a community of thousands of volunteers, they have delivered more than 4.3 million medically tailored meals to nearly 16,000 individuals just this year. And of course we went home with one of the organization’s celestial signature brownies; it’s the only way really. Not to be missed is their annual Golden Heart Awards gala honoring Sarah Jessica Parker on October 21 in NYC. glwd.org

Parrish’s stylish duo of festivities honored artists KAWS, Sean Scully and Shirin Neshat. The art shows were particularly captivating and beautifully hung in the spacious galleries this year. The Parrish Museum’s always inspiring Midsummer Weekend raised over one million dollars in support of the museum’s programs and educational initiatives –specifically focusing on raising funds for “Access Parrish,” a community program that provides artmaking, movement workshops and gallery tours for adults and children with special needs. The elegant cocktail and seated dinner honored philanthropists Susan Pear Meisel and Louis Meisel, who announced the donation of their Sagaponack Sculpture Field to the world class institution. Catherine Carmody, CJ Follini, Andrea Pemberton and Charlotte Lucas Pilaro served as the dinner’s co-chairs. The Dance was co-chaired by Laurence Milstein and Kendall Werts. Performers Anna of the North, Angel + Dren and members of the Parsons Dance troupe provided the fun entertainment, which was sponsored by the Wells Group of New York and Greenberg Traurig. The Parrish’s director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut greeted supporters including Stephanie March, Veronica Atkins, Joey Wölffer and Debbie Bancroft. parrishart.org
