New York and beyond.

Hi everyone and welcome back! For our March Mann About Town cover, we are excited to have Israeli-born artist, Libby Klein. She comes from the Reichmann family who are Holocaust survivors. She incorporates her Jewish faith into her artwork and the story she shared about her family is incredibly touching. We are honored to showcase her.
For our April cover, we are looking forward to having Mr. and Mrs. Jean Shafiroff as we focus on Philanthropic topics. We also have plans to incorporate a fireside chat with our covers as we look into the future.
As always, I attend as many events as possible, including this month’s Children’s Oncology Snow Ball in Aspen and the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s Gala Dinner in Palm Beach as well as the Old Bags Luncheon.
These are great places to meet new people and see old friends. Mann About Town’s presence has increased there and I hear great reviews about each issue.
I also played in the National Jewish Health Golf Outing while in Florida which was a huge success for the charity. I’m fortunate to have a great relationship with this organization as it’s the one we work with the most both here and in California.
We want to thank all our readers for their constant support. We always want to bring the best content to our readers and every day we look for exclusive features to show you. To keep our content fresh, we are always looking to introduce new sections so we will be bringing in an “Equestrian” section in the future!
Thank you for another great month and I look forward to Mann About Town’s April issue!

Happy March! As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, MAT is getting ready to switch into Hamptons mode. While I am a snow and winter gal, I’m looking forward to more sun!
For our March issue, we have Israeli-born artist, Libby Klein. We are excited to share her story as a wife, artist and mom of five during National Women’s Month. Libby’s Jewish values intertwine with her art and everyday life, and interviewing her about her art was inspiring.

Sakura Collection Fashion Presentation Brings Japanese Art, Culture and Style to NYFW
In celebration of Black History Month, The New York Women’s Foundation paid tribute to an exceptional group of women from diverse sectors of finance. The Sakura Collection, a project that aims to foster young creators, revitalize regions and promote cultural and economic exchanges through cross-border collaboration. Recently, the project presented the beauty and diversity of Japanese traditional fabrics in two events in New York.
The first event was Texworld New York City, one of the largest sourcing events on the East Coast, at the Javits Center in New York, where the Sakura Collection displayed a stunning array of fabrics from different regions of Japan, such as wool, cotton, denim, silk and linen, each with its own story, craftsmanship and charm.
The event also featured the final judging for the Sakura Collection Fashion Design Award 2024, a global competition for fashion students, who showcased their creations using the theme materials of “Natsu-Shiozawa” and “Upcycled Denim.” The judges included Osamu Saito, founder of Yohji Yamamoto Europe, Keiko Aoki, CEO of the Altesse Co., Ltd. a New York-based international business consultant company, Hervé Pierre, an American fashion designer who has worked for top brands such as Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera and who has dressed the First Lady and other celebrities.
The second event was an exhibition and fashion presentation held at the Pierre Hotel. On the final day of the event, three renowned fashion designers including Flora Rabitti from Italy (Florania), Irina Duhus from Ukraine (DZHUS) and Sabrina Goh from Singapore (Sabrina Goh) unveiled their exclusive collections made with traditional Japanese materials including Ojiya-chijimi, SanoAi SyoAizome, Hamamatsu Marunabe Denim, Nakaden Keori’s Bishu Wool among others. Models were provided by the Barbizon Agency.
Their creations blended Japanese heritage with their own cultural influences and artistic visions, resulting in unique and valuable pieces that represent the future of fashion. A dance performance highlighted the versatility of the fabrics and the skill of the performers from the Vissi Dance Theater. An internationally recognized Puerto Rican attorney and environmental justice leader, Elizabeth Yeampierre co-chairs the Climate Justice Alliance and serves as the executive director of UPROSE. Her trailblazing work in community organizing and climate justice reflects a commitment to sustainable development.
In recognition of their exceptional contributions, The New York Women’s Foundation honored each of these women with a citation and will be featuring them on its communications channels throughout this month. Their advancement of social justice, equity and positive change aligns seamlessly with The Foundation’s mission of transformative and generous support for women-led initiatives. Guided by radical generosity, these changemakers and The New York Women’s Foundation are shaping the history of our future.

They said it couldn’t be done.
We didn’t listen.
We’ve done hard things before, we do them all the time.
For most cancer patients, the usual options are surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. So we’re working on ways to get the immune system to deploy billions of cancer-killing cells and help more patients survive.
When some people experienced mysterious COVID symptoms and had nowhere to go, our team created the first Center for Post-COVID Care.
It wasn’t that long ago we had to open up your whole chest for heart surgery. Now we’re pioneering a bypass that goes through a few tiny incisions. With this surgery, we can get you back on your feet in weeks instead of months.
So if anyone ever tells you there’s no other way—don’t listen.

“After meeting with real women in the fi eld, we repeatedly heard they needed lighter, more comfortable clothes versatile enough for both on and off the job that could outlast their day,” said Samantha Denton, vice president of women’s category at Carhartt. “We went to work to design products that feel softer and lighter, wear better and add breathability, without sacrifi cing durability. The TENCEL™ Fiber Series is the fi rst of many upcoming innovations as the brand continues to reinvigorate its women’s line in the months ahead. Review of DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES
BYROBERTMASSIMI“Days of Wine and Roses” in its movie form starring Jack Lemon and Lee Remick was more subdued and macabre than this musical version that opened at Studio 54. The story is pretty much the same as the movie version, only we get a more upbeat tempo with the music and it goes anathema, unfortunately with the plot. The plot deals with alcoholism between the two main characters: Kirsten Arnesen (Kelli O’Hara) and Joe Clay (Brian D’Arcy James).
In this musical, all the actors are very good; the two leads are excellent, but the problem lies with both the direction, Michael Greif and the music and lyrics by Adam Guettel; both trip up the book by Craig Lucas. The problem with the direction is that we get two people who are deeply in love with one another and even with that, the show never knows when to stop being silly and to start dealing
Westfield World Trade Center is over, the show
with these two lovebirds’ serious problem, alcohol. It is not till the very end that we see what damage the booze has done to this couple, even then it never hits home with the audience as hard as it should. In the music, we get songs that never really resonate nor keeps our attention for very long. While “Underneath” and “Forgiveness” are the evening’s best, many of the other songs are forgettable; and this is with two of the best singers today on Broadway!
With a pleasing scenic design by Lizzie Clachan, lighting by Ben Stanton, well-appointed costumes by Dede Ayite and sound by Kai Harada all work well as does the co-choreography. What makes this musical less memorable is how the music runs in the opposite direction of the book. And even where the book stands out against the backdrop of the show’s poor direction, it too fails us at parts.

The Beauty Filter Effect
Afi ltered reality is nothing new—over the years, nearly a billion people have used beauty fi lters to project a picture of perfection on social media. However, the latest beauty fi lters are going viral because they utilize AI to assess and reshape every pixel on your face. Unlike traditional beauty fi lters, AI-generated fi lters do not glitch or waver as your face moves, causing a heightened sense of reality. The results are so convincing that many people now want to achieve their Insta-glow and contouring “IRL” with high-tech skin care.
How are advancements in skin care helping to bridge the gap between fi ltered results and reality? We caught up with skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth to fi nd out. An influential segment leader in the beauty industry, Roth is known for creating clinically stronger formulas and leads all research and development efforts at his state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility.
The newest innovation to emerge from Roth’s lab is Instant FIRMx® Glow-Filter Priming Serum. Here, Roth talks about the science behind this breakthrough formula and how it helps his customers achieve a fi lter effect off screen.
HOW HAVE AI-GENERATED BEAUTY FILTERS IMPACTED THE SKIN CARE INDUSTRY?
It’s a whole new world of skin care. The obsession with more realistic fi lter ‘tweakments’ has led to an uptick in the use of clinical skin care treatments. Consumers are seeking products with stronger, clinical ingredients for more intensive results. Whether they are on TikTok or out with friends, they want camera-ready skin!
IN GENERAL, HOW DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA HAS CHANGED THE SKIN CARE LANDSCAPE?
People are constantly discovering and sharing skin care trends! As the conversation has expanded, I’ve noticed more interest in ingredients and product performance. I’ve been transparent with my customers since day one, and I think that’s why my products continue to resonate. I put all the active ingredients on the front of my products in big font—I was the pioneer of this! —because I want people to know what they’re getting. To ensure my customers enjoy amazing results, I always use the most effective active ingredients at the highest percentage possible.
YOUR INSTANT FIRMX® PRODUCTS ARE VIRAL SENSATIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA—TELL US MORE.
Everyone loves my Instant FIRMx® products! Influencers and celebrities can’t get enough because the formulas give you intensive results instantly and over time. It all started with my Instant FIRMx® Eye Temporary Eye Tightener. It was one of my top products for years, but things really went off the charts when Trinidad Sandoval shared her amazing before-and-after on TikTok. It received over 43 million views and people were obsessed—still are! After that, I worked with my chemists to create my Instant FIRMx® No-Filter Primer, which quickly became a big hit as well.
WHY WILL BEAUTY FILTER USERS LOVE YOUR NEW INSTANT FIRMX® GLOW-FILTER PRIMING SERUM?
Like the most popular beauty fi lters, it illuminates your complexion, blurs the look of imperfections and gives you a more lifted and contoured appearance… brilliant!
WHAT MAKES INSTANT FIRMX® GLOW-FILTER PRIMING SERUM SCIENTIFICALLY ADVANCED?
Illuminating Minerals and Diamond Powder provide an instant glow and the illusion of lifted facial features. But what makes this product truly unique is the breakthrough 5% Actigym™ Clinical Contouring Technology—it’s like a gym for your skin! This cutting-edge ingredient helps to sculpt the look of your skin over time and defi nes the appearance of cheeks, chin and jawline with continued daily use. With consistent everyday application, my primer is also clinically proven to improve the look of skin fi rmness in just one week.
HOW SHOULD PEOPLE USE INSTANT FIRMX® GLOW-FILTER PRIMING SERUM?
For the best results, apply this product to clean, dry skin. Wear it alone to instantly glow and blur imperfections, or under foundation for a lit-from-within makeup look. FYI, if you add a smoky eye and fi ll in your brows, you can channel your own ‘Bold Glamour’ TikTok fi lter in real life!
MEMO PARIS
An ambery and spicy fragrance, Saffron is the keystone of this composition, magnified by the petal softness of the flowers as well as creamy woods and resins.
In Cappadocia, in the heart of Turkey, the earth retains the memory of an unblemished emotion, a shiver of saffron, sandalwood and myrrh surfaces on the skin. Inspired by the Turkish city, the fragrance is housed in a sleek bottle adorned with plating designed to represent the “fairy chimneys” that punctuate the Cappadocia region. Volcanic eruptions created this surreal moonscape as the lava flows formed tuff rock, which wind and rain sculpted into sinuous valleys with curvy cliff faces and pointy fairy chimneys.
The main note of Cappadocia Eau de Parfum, Saffron is an intense spicy, aromatic, woody and phenolic aroma. Harvesting the flowers and separating the stigmas and stamens from the petals are all part of the lengthy but beautiful journey to create the aromatic fragrance. The flowers, which begin to grow in mid-October, are picked and taken home in baskets. This laborious work, which requires a certain amount of skill, takes place from sunrise to sunset and lasts up to 20-25 days.
The supporting notes of Cappadocia Eau de Parfum, Sandalwood and Myrrh, soften the spice allowing the wearer to move gently through the day while providing an edge.
MEMO Paris Cappadocia (75ml) is available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and memoparis.com for $310. Photos

APPROACHABLE, ELEVATED COMFORT FOODS FOR A GOOD MORNING BETTER NIGHT
The Granola Bar, a celebrated restaurant, café and grab-and-go destination with six existing locations in the suburbs of New York and Connecticut, opened for business in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper West Side this past January. Co-founded by powerhouses Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily (@granolygirls), The Granola Bar’s first New York City location will serve residents and visitors of the bustling Upper West Side neighborhood with elevated comfort food and drink. The Granola Bar welcomes guests to dine, drink and enjoy the space as a home-away-from-home steeped in community and rooted in friendship and connection.
Both former Manhattan residents, Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily, joined forces over a decade ago in Connecticut to create The Granola Bar with the focus on providing beautiful, feel-good comfort food options catering to guests from day to night. Since its Westport, Connecticut, flagship concept in 2013, The Granola Bar has gained a loyal following. Their commitment to creating a community-first, inclusive and friendly dining experience has earned them a reputation as pioneers in the industry.
“We are thrilled to bring The Granola Bar to New York City!” said Noorily “As we enter our next phase of growth and expansion, Julie and I are back in the city that we both called home many years ago. There’s so much excitement surrounding what is to come for The Granola Bar in the Big Apple, but there is also a comforting sense of familiarity with the people and place we love so much.”
The opening of The Granola Bar’s newest location marks a milestone for the company as it expands its footprint out of the suburbs. The New York City location is designed to offer a tranquil space for customers to indulge in their favorite dishes, enjoy a cocktail after work or grab a bite at the “grab and go” portion of the space dedicated to those who would like to pop in quickly anytime throughout the day. The Granola Bar also provides a space that can be reserved for events and parties, large or small, with catering services for off-site gatherings and office deliveries to come.
“The Granola Bar started with the goal of bringing the foods we love to our surrounding families and friends,” said Mountain. “This desire still lives on in every space we open today, and we are beyond excited to expand our community to the Upper West Side.”
THE MENU - GOOD MORNING BETTER NIGHT
The day-to-night café and restaurant will offer an elevated vision of comfort food and drinks, with beer, wine and sangria offerings. THE AMBIANCE AND DESIGN
Conceptualized by Prabjeet Green of Colour and Color, The Granola Bar’s chic yet comfortable design embodies the atmosphere of the accompanying menu.
THE TEAM
Co-founders Julie Mountain and Dana Noorily met in 2010 after years in the music and finance industries, respectively. They soon launched O.A.T.S. Granola after bonding over their shared passion for cooking. They rapidly went from selling at farmer’s markets to selling at Whole Foods and many other stores along the East Coast.
Two years later, they decided to base the operation in their hometown of Westport, CT, which allowed them to also create a café experience. The always-hungry ladies got together and wrote a menu of their dreams. They knew that in addition to delicious, modern, beautiful food — they wanted a space where their local community would feel happy and comfortable and have an experience beyond the food. The Granola Bar flagship in Westport opened its doors in December 2013.
As the business evolved and expanded, TGB Hospitality Group was formed and now includes six restaurants (in Westport, Stamford, Fairfield, Greenwich, Darien and Rye), a catering business, The Granola Bar food truck and restaurant consultancy. As Dana and Julie reached their 10-year anniversary this December, they are now ready more than ever to take the concept to the big city with even more growth plans in 2024.
In addition to Dana and Julie is JJ Henao, who joined The Granola Bar team in 2016 as a server at The Granola Bar in Greenwich, then worked his way up to regional manager for The Granola Bars in Connecticut. He, ultimately, took a small hiatus and returned to the company in May 2022. As Vice President of Operations, JJ focuses on menu development, vendor relations, technology innovation, operational efficiencies and growth across all our brands.
CASA BOND CASA BOND CASA BOND
a Tulum Vibe on the Bowery
Casa Bond, from Owner Mike Khuu, Executive Chef-Owner Rodrigo Abrajan and Managing Partner Luis Villanueva, is a stylish, new Mexican restaurant that will serve refi ned classic fare, focusing on the best regional dishes from the Mexican Riviera to the mountains of Sinaloa and Central Mexico. The Casa Bond experience is based on Tulum’s culture of young, artistic, fun-loving people who are highly proficient in having a good time, their Bohemian chic style and their propensity for high-quality dining.
Executive Chef-Owner Rodrigo fi rst achieved neighborhood acclaim with El Paso Taqueria in Harlem. He began his culinary journey with a humble taco pushcart in 1993 on the corner of Third Ave and East 104th St., which eventually grew into a full-service restaurant with three locations. El Paso was perennially lauded as one of the best restaurants in East Harlem by the media and locals alike.
Casa Bond’s menu begins with courses to share, including: Caviar Guacamole, avocado, chives and crème fraiche, served with house-made blue corn sope, a corn tortilla-like masa cake and a choice of ½ gram or 1 gram of Imperial Osetra caviar; or Lobster Guacamole with habanero, jicama, cilantro macho and heirloom corn tostada shells.
Ceviche & More: Aguachile Negro from the mountains of Sinaloa, consisting of prime ribeye seared to a tender medium-rare in a marisquera sauce made from seven types of chili peppers, topped with avocado foam; Lobster Ceviche with passionfruit, lychee, fresh mango, chile de árbol and pomegranate, served with baked multigrain tostadas; and Quesadilla Verde crafted with spinach-jalapeño epazote, Oaxacan cheese and cremini mushrooms, pressed in a masa tortilla.
Casa Bond’s Tacos include: Baja Fish, whitefi sh, cabbage, avocado, pico de gallo and habanero aioli; Governador with shrimp, steak, chihuahua cheese and chiltepin-tomato; as well as Panuchos Yucatecos, chicken, refried beans, pickled red onions and habanero. All tacos are served on blue corn tortillas.
Highlights of the Entrees selection are: Duck Confit served in the house signature mole made from 24 ingredients including pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds ground to a paste with white chocolate, hoja santa and pine nuts; Cochinita Pibil, pork shoulder wrapped in banana leaf with achiote paste, habanero and chile tetemado; Adobo Lamb Shank with pickled cactus, aromatic avocado leaves and salsa verde crudo; and Pescado Zarandeado, a broiled butterfl ied branzino marinated in annatto-guajillo, served with handpressed tortillas.
Sides highlight: Esquites, Mexican street corn salad with chile piquín, and Jicama Salad with mixed greens and ancho vinaigrette.
Molecular Dessert Chefs Erica Huertas and Daniella Castro have created a pair of fun-sized twists on classic Mexican desserts that come in beautiful shapes and colors, including: a cylinder-shaped Churro, fi lled with caramel mousse and decorated with green and yellow striped chocolate; and a diamond-shaped Tres Leches pastry fi lled with marzipan.
The cocktail list is a testament to the artistry of Bever-
age Director-Managing Partner Luis Villanueva. He has created classic and innovative cocktails by uniting the perfect balance of spirits and liqueurs. The Couture is made with McQueen Gin, Licor43 and Luxardo, mixed with fresh lemon juice that changes the color from purple to pink; the Deluxe Margarita is made with Casa Dragones silver tequila, produced by the fi rst woman-owned distillery in Mexico, Cointreau, fresh lime juice and agave nectar; Señor Bond, a play on the Old Fashioned, using Woodford Reserve bourbon, aromatic bitters, smoked maple and Amarena cherries; Downtown, a mélange of grapefruit, pineapple, orange, Meyer lemons, lime and Pisco Liquor, making for a sweet cocktail that complements the spicier dishes.
A unique aspect of the cocktail program is a beverage cart outfitted with 15 premium tequilas and used to prepare the lux signature XXIV Karat cocktail tableside. The drink combines Grand Marnier Cuvée Louis-Alexandre infused with yuzu and local honey with either Herradura Legend tequila or the guest’s choice of premium tequila, stirred with ice and garnished with 24-karat gold fl akes and activated charcoal foam.
Casa Bond offers a selection of red, white and sparkling wines by the glass and by the bottle from old and new world producers curated by Wineberry exclusively for the restaurant. Highlights include: Lady of the Dead from Frias, a top Mexican-American-owned boutique winery in the Napa Valley, Lagarde Viognier from Argentina and Tinto Pesquera from Ribera de Duero, Crianza Rioja, Spain.
Interior Designer Michael Arguello has designed restaurants, bars and residences in Miami, Los Angeles and New York. Casa Bond blends his luxury residential background and hospitality design to create the ambiance of an exclusive private dinner party. He employs a timeless black-and-white theme throughout the restaurant inspired by New York City while adding touches of nature with exotic plants. Diamond crystal chandeliers and circular rippled glass light sconces give off a warm glow and candlelight effect. Bellhop lamps sit atop a long, white marble bar accented by dark blue wood.

Libby Klein
BY ALEX BAUMBUSCHIsraeli-born artist, Libby Klein intertwines her love of beauty and Jewish faith to bring into her artwork. Breaking barriers and creating a deeper conversation with each piece, Libby creates a new perspective for her art.
As a wife and mother to five children, Libby draws inspiration from her family, her religion and the traditions to create each individual piece. As an upcoming artist who made her debut at Miami Art Basel, Libby makes a beautiful balance between energy, faith, culture and her appreciation for life to create art with infinite depth and new perspective.
After losing her father at five, Libby’s life became more real. She began seeing different viewpoints from such a young age and learned going through life judging can limit so much. From this, Libby began looking at things more deeply. Finding a different, deeper perspective and analysis of life.
She has seen this through various avenues of herself including fashion, décor and teaching history for multiple years, giving her students a new perspective to the world. While Libby ultimately decided on art as a career, she still incorporates fashion and décor into her life.
Around the time Libby started creating, she had no intention of displaying her art to the public. However, when guests in her home were just taking pieces off her wall, Libby realized her creations can make a difference in people’s lives. Currently, Libby’s art sits in the homes of prominent art collectors around the world, spanning from North America to Israel and all the way to Australia. Libby’s pieces can also be found at Carlton Fine Arts on Madison Avenue.
“When I started selling my artwork and my business of combining my perspective, my viewpoint of the world and my positive energy together with beauty, I said wow. This is what my soul was meant to do,” Libby said.
Libby is constantly finding ways to the middle path to balance out the world of wearing so many hats while being abstract in her pieces. Every stroke of texture in Libby’s paintings represents the abstract feel and balance she carries.
“Every single piece of art has an element of sketch and outline,” Libby said. “And then I go free with it, like the universe is opening up and I’m creating the bucket for it to go into.”
This free feeling comes out with each client she collaborates with. For a unique experience, Libby will come to your house and feel the energy in the room, then turn what she feels into artwork. For the good and the bad, Libby will pick up the energy in the home and ask the family questions to try and understand the room’s distinct aesthetic. From there, she uses their perspective to create a painting unique to them.
“I really could zoom in and pick up on colors, vibes and energies. I love giving that back to people because they’re always shocked at how I was able to capture them in a piece,” Libby said.
With each client, Libby finds their inner spark. Every art piece she gives acts as a blessing and in 200 years from now, that same art piece will still show true values and emotion. As of right now, giving someone a painting that embodies their values and traditions will speak to someone more than a materialistic gift would. Libby said, “My art has such an energy to it, has so much life in it.”
Legacy, community and family are a big part of who Libby is as a person and an artist. She believes these values brought from this allow her to believe the world is our oyster and we need to take what we want. Her belief in tradition, values and her family legacy is portrayed through her art. Although juggling each is a balancing act, Libby is grateful for the struggle and feels joy when it all ties together.
This sense of community and family is mirrored in each family tree painting Libby creates. Libby says her children inspired the idea behind starting family trees for clients. Each tree represents the concept of family and continuing yourself. “Having kids gave me a whole new perspective of life,” Libby explained. “I questioned more what my legacy was, what I want to hold onto, and what I want to leave and give to this world.”
Libby’s art stands out because of her studio: it is a haven for safe spaces, positivity and a judgment-free community. Here, connecting with people is a common practice. Once a month, a group of 80 women gather for open discussions. This is
an important time, filled with embracing their Jewish identities through traditional songs.
“I believe the world is so beautiful because there’s so many different types of people and let’s allow all those different types of people because that’s what makes the world so beautiful,” Libby said. “I paint from a place of happiness, to bring joy and beauty into this world.”
As an Orthodox Jewish woman, many of her pieces have referenced Israel such as “Israel, An Old City” and “The Western Wall,” that has existed for thousands of years.
Libby’s painting of The Western Wall makes her, and every client she paints one for, feel like she has a piece of the wall in their house. “I’ve created a lot of pieces referring to the war,” Libby said. “Since the war, it [art] brought out a lot of Jewish love.” Libby feels now more than ever, community and spiritual power is extremely important.
Many of Libby’s pieces show what is going on in Israel. Libby is grateful to be a part of the community and nation, feeling interconnected with it all. Her Jewish identity and the Reichman family she comes from represents her traditions and the community. “My inspiration is most definitely my great-grandmother, Rene Reichmann.” Rene was the matriarch of the famous Olympia & York Reichmann brothers from Toronto Canada. “Being a part of the Reichmann dynasty makes me realize and appreciate our obligation to mankind,” she said in reference to Renee Reichmann’s heroic acts during the Holocaust. “There’s been a war in Israel since the beginning of history, I incorporate trees into my paintings because, unlike humans, nature is the only thing in the world that has witnessed history and is still around to tell the story,” Libby said.
Aside from canvases, Libby also paints on objects such as a tambourine. Libby explained how she goes through being Jewish and being a mom to kids during a war. Although she knows there is a lot of pain going on right now, she doesn’t want to ignore it. She teaches her kids how God wants them to live life to its fullest despite the world not being perfect.
“I started painting the tambourines to tell the kids there are better days to come and we are saving these for when the sun shines,” Libby said.
The light and the calling Libby feels is what she tells young artists to find what they start their careers. Insecurities could destroy your work. Successful people are not perfect, and perfection is not real. Libby has been invited to speak across the country to motivate mothers on fulfilling their dreams while balancing the needs of a busy household.
Libby channels her traditions, Jewish faith and sense of community into each piece she creates. The art she creates has been influenced with things throughout her life but at the end of the day, joy and love are what each piece embodies.

BEYOND
From the Neck Down
BY MARGARET BASTICK LUCEWhy is it that we use the most expensive cream on our face and neck and even use excess on our hands but forget our body? Our face makes up a fraction of our entire body yet gets all the attention. We should shift some of the focus to the largest organ, our skin.
In my ongoing search for ways to look and be my best, I discovered Broadband light (“BBL”). Rather than a Med Spa laser, BBL is a top-of-the-line plastic surgeon’s laser. Dr. Frederic Barr says, “By using precise laser technology, Palm Beach Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery can selectively target and remove damaged skin cells, revealing healthier and more radiant skin.” BBL is more precise with manipulating energy through different handpieces and attachments.
Targeting the body can be more intense and time-consuming. Bringing up the spots with a BBL or an Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is more difficult on the body as opposed to the face, causing a longer recovery time, which deters some from trying. I found BBL to work wonders during my recent visit to their West Palm Beach office. My technician held the laser with skill and precision, and I felt strongly this made a big difference. It really is the right technician and setting that matters the most. I will be heading back soon to evaluate and see what else is needed.
An ongoing curiosity has me looking at how my once cute freckles transitioned to spots. Recognizing that spots are not universally bad, however, they warrant monitoring for changes in color, size and variation in the edges. My ongoing commitment is to learn, get better and be better. With two to three treatments, this may be the
magic approach that allows me to stave off any major issues.
The same with lasers, sunscreen needs to be applied all over, rather than just our face, ears and hands. This got me thinking about everyday life, going to events, taking walks, playing tennis or a round of golf. To combat the effects of the Florida sun even in the winter, wear protective clothing and use SPF. Long-sleeve cotton shirts, leggings under gold and tennis skirts, and brands with built-in SPF such as WATSKIN, are great options.
Keep in mind that our bodies are in a constant state of change and we are limited in our view of what goes on beneath the surface. Being intentional and identifying the very best practitioners who invest in their education and state-of-the-art technology to treat and educate their clients is key. Partnering with practitioners on my health and wellness journey is my proven, winning recipe.
I encourage everyone to dedicate time to follow-up after each treatment and seek ongoing care to achieve optimal results. And, if you are interested in keeping apprised of my progress, feel free to message me on Instagram and I will share my journey. A wise friend once said you must triple-track after 40 to get a quarter of the effects which means we need to stay on top of it. In the health and wellness game, it is never one and done! I have been following this program for a while now and am happy to report, it is working splendidly.

A Historic Resort is Revived with New Luxury Residences
Photos courtesy of Pier Sixty-Six
First came newly built branded residences, and now iconic historic hotels are transforming into billion-dollar developments. Preserving their illustrious heritage while introducing luxury residential to their property for the first time, developments are providing a new way for homeowners to feel like they’re living on a constant vacation.
In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Pier Sixty-Six has been celebrated as a hospitality icon for more than 50 years. The historic site began as a fuel dock for Phillips 66 Petroleum in the 1950s along the famed Intracoastal Waterway, where eventually a world-class marina was created in the “Yachting Capital of the World.” In the 1960s, the resort complex and iconic spire-topped tower were built, forever changing Fort Lauderdale’s skyline and drawing celebrities, civic leaders, Fort Lauderdale society and visitors worldwide.
Now, Pier Sixty-Six is set to unveil its highly anticipated $1 billion renovation this fall with the destination’s first residential address, Pier Sixty-Six Residences. Nestled on 32 waterfront acres along Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway, the new Pier Sixty-Six will encompass a renovated world-class resort with 325 guestrooms, 12 dining and lounge destinations, a marina promenade home to a curated mix of restaurants, retailers and offices. It’s crown-jewel, Pier Sixty-Six Marina, is one of the largest super yacht marinas on the eastern seaboard with 5,000 linear feet of dockage and 164 slips able to moor boats from 40 feet to 400 feet. Just moments from the Atlantic Ocean, the marina also connects to Fort Lauderdale’s 300 miles of inland waterways and continues to attract the most prestigious vessels around the world.
ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN
Led by world-class architects including HKS Architects, NELSON Worldwide and Garcia Stromberg, Pier Sixty-Six is ensuring the historic integrity of the original building constructed in the late 1960s by reinvigorating an iconic façade with a mid-century modern design that blends into the elements of a present-day subtropical location.
RESIDENCES

MELKE AUTUMN/WINTER 2024
“THE HEIST”
COLLECTION DEBUT
This NYFW, Emma Gage presented the AW24 collection for Melke at Gary’s Loft, as listed on the official Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) calendar. The collection, entitled “The Heist,” draws inspiration from Gage’s favorite childhood movie characters, Wallace and Gromit. The collection consists of 20 unique looks, all sustainably made here in NYC. Emma, the founder and designer of the brand, opted to showcase her collection in an interactive, walk-through style presentation complete with a full scavenger hunt! Guests were given a map upon entry and then were instructed to different vignettes where they could interact with models, feel the garments and get up close and personal with each look. The presentation style was lauded as a fun and exciting experience amid the craziness of fashion week.
Melke’s autumn/winter 2024 collection looks into the beloved claymation series Wallace and Gromit. Leaning into Melke’s carefree joy and childlike wonder, The Heist is inspired by the mischievous adventures that Wallace and Gromit often find themselves in. From traveling to the moon for cheese, stealing a diamond and fighting a gigantic wererabbit, it seems this duo has done it all. Yet at the end of the day, they always return to the comforts of home for a hot cup of tea and a delectable slice of cheese.
Around 80% of the collection used deadstock materials. The remainder were our custom prints which used organic materials and limited water consumption, and handwoven cotton khadi from a fair-trade supplier. The custom shoelaces were made from remnants of lining materials, and we sourced all trims from the garment district to support local small businesses.

GUY STANLEY PHILOCHE
MAKING SURE THE FLOWERS BLOOM
BY PENELOPE HERRERAGuy Stanely Philoche, a widely recognized Haitian-American artist, has fi rmly made his mark as an artist and continues his strides to accomplish more as a creator every day.
Having found a love for art at a young age, he chose to pursue it as a career against traditional cultural beliefs for a profession. Against the odds, he has amassed great success with museums, curators, art collectors and notable celebrities. With persistence, patience and perseverance, Philoche has opened many doors including the ones that have closed on him, where in the end, those same doors that were closed for him opened up without him even having to knock.
Philoche came to the United States from Haiti at the age of five, learning to speak English through watching cartoons and soap operas. While navigating through life, he found his place in the world through art. Raised in Connecticut but following the art capital of the world, he set his eyes on New York. With his many visits to New York as a kid, the MET and MoMA allowed Philoche to visit some of his favorite artists. Once old enough to choose where to call home, Philoche knew it was New York for him over 20 years ago and he hasn’t looked back since.
“It was defi nitely no choice but New York and just the energy and the vibe and inspiration, it’s all here in New York. I could walk down the street and just get inspired by seeing everyday items,” Philoche said.
Philoche has loved and embraced New York for as long as he could remember, so while many fled when COVID hit, he further grounded his roots, creating a series called “New York, I Still Love You.” About the series, he said, “At the time, everyone kept saying New York is dead, I’m leaving New York, I just had to say, no, New York is never dead. It’s an evolving, growing city.”
Philoche created classical New York images, painting them in a classic polaroid style which included the Statue of Liberty and other beloved New York things such as the Nuts 4 Nuts bag and Tiffany’s to remind people of New York’s greatness.
Not only did Philoche choose to paint portraits of New York staples, but he wanted to give back to New York by supporting as many artists as he could and telling people to buy local art. He said, “I’m not a doctor, an essential worker, but it [COVID] was still affecting my colleagues and
peers, so that’s why I wanted to do it. I had the platform and the ability to go out and buy as much art as possible.” What started as a $20,000 budget grew to over $250,000 and 400 pieces of artwork that built a massive collection called the “Philoche Collection,” consisting of art from artists around the world.
Although Philoche has deep ties with New York, his Caribbean roots flow through his artwork and many paintings show a Haitian influence. “It’s in my blood, if you look at some of my pieces and some of the people I’ve painted, you know it’s defi nitely influenced,” Philoche said.
Philoche currently has a series of paintings called “Give Us Our Flowers,” inspired by his late friend whose funeral was met with deep regret for not boasting his accolades while he was alive. The series is to honor the black community and people. Philoche said, “I want more museums to start honoring and giving us our flowers.” Showcased are famous black individuals, including Jackie Robinson, Virgil Abloh, James Baldwin and more. The series was shown at the LA Art Show Convention Center with the Tanya Weddemire Gallery and the Bruce Lurie Gallery.
Now, the success of Philoche of course, did not happen overnight. Around 20 years ago he sold his fi rst painting in New York City for $3,000 which gave him the focus and motivation to keep going, a sense of belonging. A sale of $3,000 became $100,000, 20 years later. Philoche also reached the level of having celebrity buyers about 10 years ago, with clientele including George Fink, George Clooney, Uma Thurman and others. Big corporate collectors have also acquired his pieces.
Philoche is showing at Pioneer Reader Gallery and the Bruce Lurie Gallery in Los Angeles again in the near future while unveiling a new series, “Young Heroes.” “It’s fun and exciting but I still don’t feel like an established artist,” Philoche said. “I’m still chasing the dream, the goals. I still have a bright future ahead of me.” Philoche sees himself getting his work into the MoMa in the upcoming years.
For the artists who doubt themselves, Philoche advised, “I was weird and awkward in a new country. If I could do it, so could you.” Philoche had a series called “No Comment.” It was eight paintings of very high-profi le women who had high profi le jobs such as doctors, accountants and lawyers who felt like they couldn’t get ahead because they weren’t part of the boys club.
They were painted nude with duct tape over their mouths. Philoche said he took these paintings to every museum, curator, art collector and gallery, with all shutting him down because they found the paintings controversial. Philoche stood by his artwork and put it in storage rather than giving up on the art he believed in. With the “Me Too” movement 14 years later, what he was willing to sell for $20,000 became over $120,000. Philoche said, “That’s why I tell people you have to be patient because as artists, we’re always ahead of the curve.”
To the young, up-and-coming artists, Philoche added, “Be patient and consistent, your time will come. And never, never settle.”
