one mann’s opinion

Lauren and I are happy to say that we have been thrilled with the reaction we have received to all three of our titles’ February issues celebrating Black History Month. We are very proud of our work and have received tremendous congratulations from all over. We had a very in-depth selection process to find the right cover stars for our titles and the results of that speak for themselves. This is the first time we’ve tackled a project like this, but we have always felt a need to highlight diversity. Due to the success of our titles, we felt it was our responsibilty to lead the way in celebrating and honoring Black History Month. I am so glad that we had the chance to take this on and really put in the work to create truly special issues of our magazines.

In this issue and beyond, we are continuing with our goal of forming exclusive relationships with the best people in the industry.

I am excited to announce that iconic skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth has agreed to share his incredible knowledge with you all as a routine contributor. Peter is an incredibly talented individual that I am also proud to call a dear friend. I hope you all take the time to read his article in this issue and keep an eye out for more in our future issues!

The nicest thing about being in this business is the incredible relationships you get to form. It’s the part of the business that I love the most, and I am incredibly proud of it all of the time. Our relationships with people like Peter are what have helped us to become the most talked about lifestyle magazine in the country, and we are very grateful for that.

We have also noticed an increased demand for travel content, with more and more people looking to go on exotic vacations and explore new places after the isolation we all faced in recent years due to the pandemic. To meet this demand, we are excited to announce our plans to work with The Destination Designer to expand our travel coverage. Their contributed articles are going to be terrific resources for planning your next getaway, so be sure to stay tuned for that.

Our team also attended a number of shows for New York Fashion Week this past month, and got the chance to see some of the hottest new styles of the season on an off the runways. We have always been known as a go-to resource in the fashion world; it’s a key part of who we are, and we look forward to sharing the latest looks with you all.

At Mann About Town, we always aim to offer informative, exciting articles that keep you on the cutting edge of fashion, dining, wellness, real estate and more. We are looking forward to continuing to bring you the best lifestyle content out there throughout 2023.

HOPE FOR DEPRESSION RESEARCH FOUNDATION HOSTS CELEBRATION TO LAUNCH

FIFTH ANNUAL RACE OF HOPE IN PALM BEACH

The evening celebrated committee and junior committee members at Palm Beach Hot Spot Le Bilboquet

Hope for Depression Research Foundation (HDRF) hosted a kick-off cocktail and dinner in the two-week countdown to its fifth annual Race of Hope to Defeat Depression, a 5K run/walk that raises awareness and funds for cutting-edge mental health research. The celebratory cocktail and dinner took place at — and completely took over — Palm Beach’s beloved French bistro, Le Bilboquet. Over 120 guests attended the celebratory cocktail and dinner starting in the restaurant’s enchanted outdoor courtyard, where planted palms swayed below the stars on a perfectly balmy night.

Beautifully lit vitrines showcased a selection of jewelry from Faraone Mennella, the iconic Capri boutique represented exclusively in Palm Beach and the Hamptons by Via Coquina, a favorite among the town’s best dressed. Guests were thrilled to meet Faraone Mennella co-founder and jewelry designer Amedeo Scognamiglio, who flew in from Italy to showcase his latest collection, including a custom necklace he designed specifically for this event: a pendant with the Goddess of Hope “Spes” in 18K gold and surrounded by diamonds. This stunning piece was available for custom order at the event and is being sold exclusively at Via Coquina

(viacoquina.com). Located on Via Mizner, Via Coquina will donate a portion of Faraone Mennella sales to HDRF.

Towards the end of the evening and to the surprise of the guests, Board Member Scott Snyder gifted HDRF’s founder Audrey Gruss with the special pendant designed by Amedeo Sognamiglio of Faraone Mennella made especially for HDRF.

Please visit hopefordepression.org for more information. Support the cause and shop the beautiful pendant at viacoquina.com.

HOPE AND OPTIMISM CELEBRATED AT AFNATAL “SHARING THE LIGHT OF HEALING” GALA, SUPPORTING PIONEERING TREATMENT FOR TRAUMA AND PTSD

AFNATAL hosted the inaugural “Sharing the Light of Healing” gala with an emotional and moving program that was an inspiring celebration of optimism and healing. The event took place at the illustrious 583 Park Avenue where Jude Yovel Recanati, NATAL’s co-founder and president and Andrew J. Malik, chairman at Needham & Company, were honored by press, community members, philanthropists and mental health professionals. Emceed by TV journalist, Tijana Ibrahimovic, the gala raised awareness for the pioneering work NATAL has accomplished in Israel and the USA through AFNATAL.

“It is an honor to be recognized for the work of NATAL and AFNATAL in America,” said Recanati. “I founded the organization with psychiatrist Dr. Yossi Hadar 25 years ago and it’s rewarding to have helped support and heal over 450,000 people. NATAL provides therapists, training and the only 24/7 telephone helpline with constant support for children, families, soldiers and people that experience traumatic injuries, PTSD and illnesses as a result of war, terror and violence. We are now spreading this expertise through our Global NATAL programs and through AFNATAL in

America. Tonight’s gala also introduces Emi Palmor, our new chair, to continue building and growing NATAL for years to come.”

Yair Aquizerat, an Israeli soldier, student, husband, father and NATAL client spoke movingly about his four-year journey of trauma and treatment. He credits NATAL for helping him understand that he was not alone in his suffering. “One of my fears was the thought of how I would be able to function as a father when I could not function myself. My greatest personal victory is fatherhood. I am now in a place where I feel lucky and grateful for the path I have taken.”

Pastor Chris Harris of Chicago’s Bright Star Community Outreach went to Israel and was struck by the similarity of the impact of violence and war. Following an engaging exchange with Rabbi Michael Siegel, who developed the Chicago program with him, Pastor Harris sang the Hatikvah, Israel’s National anthem, in a splendid gospel version. He spoke about bringing the NATAL model of counseling, creating the 24/7 hotline and training therapists to reach several thousand African American people in Chicago where urban violence continues to rise

dramatically.

Andrew J. Malik received AFNATAL’s first Impact Award, spoke about being a Holocaust survivor, the PTSD his parents faced and how it all came together when he learned about NATAL. “When I was introduced to Jude, it wasn’t 15 minutes with this remarkable woman, that I was in her thrall. Her obvious dedication to NATAL and its work came through so dramatically. Its mission struck a deep-rooted chord in me.”

Words of support, inspiration and encouragement were also provided in a keynote speech by Dan Halutz, Israeli Air Force lieutenant general, former chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces, and commander of the Israeli Air Force, who talked about the need to recognize PTSD and trauma as a silent killer and NATAL’s life changing work. Asaf Zamir, Israeli politician and diplomat, spoke to anti-Semitism and how the work of NATAL is helping to create a positive perception of Israel through this important mental health work.

The evening concluded with a successful FundA-Need Live Appeal with auctioneer Pat Tully.

BLOOMINGDALE’S ANNOUNCES THE CAROUSEL @ BLOOMINGDALE’S: FEMALE FOUNDERS CURATED BY TIKA SUMPTER

Bloomingdale’s has announced The Carousel @ Bloomingdale’s: Female Founders Curated by Tika Sumpter – a celebration of female entrepreneurs in honor of Women’s History Month. Bloomingdale’s is partnering with Actress and Producer Tika Sumpter to take over the retailer’s Spring Carousel and showcase a curated assortment of must-have home, self-care, fashion, accessories and kids’ products from 50 female-founded and -owned brands including Kaleidadope, Kim Hill, The Spice Suite, Candice Luther, Estelle Glassware, Cult Gaia and more.

The Carousel will also feature products designed exclusively for Bloomingdale’s from Tika’s own brand, Fort Sumpter. The Fort Sumpter x Bloomingdale’s capsule collection is inspired by the fort of love, laughter, care and respect Tika’s parents built around their children. The collection was designed to tell the story of Tika’s childhood, full of love through items that are committed to women, children and joy.

“I’m so grateful that Bloomingdale’s has entrusted me to curate amazing products from women-owned and -founded brands for The Carousel @ Bloomingdale’s,” said Tika Sumpter. “Bloomingdale’s is giving these women and their brands a platform to honor their success. It’s a dream come true to be a part of this incredible moment to celebrate women and Women’s History Month. Little Tika is smiling at me now in disbelief.”

From February 23 to April 24, the space within the 59th Street flagship and online at Bloomingdales.com will be dedicated to amplifying female entrepreneurs and their products; a space where these women can tell their stories and inspire others. Throughout duration of the Carousel, additional events and activations will take place including:

• Female Founders Homepage Takeover: Shoppers can visit Bloomingdales.com to learn more about these 50 incredible women, their stories and brands.

• On Screen with Tika Sumpter: On International Women’s Day, March 8, Tika, joined by Co-host Angel Gregorio from The Spice Sweet, will host an On-Screen shopping event in the carousel at Bloomingdales.com, highlighting products and brands.

• Saturday’s Generation: On March 11, stores around the country will host a Saturday’s Generation celebrating female founders, featuring events, activations and surprises from the women-owned companies.

• Weekends with Basquet: Each Friday-Sunday, Basquet, an emerging female-founded, allergen-friendly online grocery store, will be offering samples from 1-5 p.m. A curated selection of products that promote joyful food discovery and shopping will also be available throughout the Carousel.

“As we look to define what’s next, seeing this carousel come to life means so much to Bloomingdale’s,” said Anya Deweerdt, marketing director, Unique Merchandising Initiatives, Bloomingdale’s. “By partnering with Tika Sumpter and the incredible group of entrepreneurs, we celebrate female empowerment through the lens of women who have broken barriers and successfully created successful brands in a range of spaces.”

SUPERVSN STUDIOS RELEASES SPRING STUDIO COLLECTION, THE SECOND INSTALLMENT OF THEIR PHILANTHROPIC FASHION PARTNERSHIP WITH PACSUN

Studio powered by Supervsn launches the first segment of their spring collection. The ultimate creative uniform is back in the evergreen black and debuting a new chocolate hue. The statement graphic tees are a forever staple in the Supervsn universe. The black hue features the statement “Never Not Creating” and the chocolate is emblazoned with a Studio logo, in their standard fit priced at $40 USD. The true hero piece of the collection is the cut-and-sew nylon anorak half-zip jacket, with a Studio graphic. The anorak half-zip retails at $120 USD. “As we go from collection to collection, we are designing with the creator in mind and thinking of ways to improve the product and best suit the creator’s lifestyle,” said Gavin Mathieu.

The visuals for this round of Studio drops are intriguing as usual, as most have come to expect from Supervsn campaigns. The brand took a unique approach to capture those who embody the true essence of fashion meeting function and combining overall utility.

“With this shoot, we decided to break the fourth dimension by putting the consumer behind the camera. Studio is activewear for the creative, it is for the people behind the scenes making it all come together; shoots, lookbooks, campaigns, production of products so the purpose of the shoot was to capture the creative in real-time. What’s unique about this shoot is that we actually captured the creative team in Studio while shooting an upcoming Supervsn campaign. It was a moment to bring it all together, and we are really proud of the result,” said Gavin Mathieu.

With the new year underway, Studio’s philanthropic partnership also kicks off this month with AEG Goldenvoice and Round Two programming. Interns will undergo a 12-week work experience at each company, with opportunities at Goldenvoice ranging in departments such as touring, talent, finance, ticketing and marketing; and an immersive public relations internship at Round Two.

“After the well-received response from our community around the initial Studio by Supervsn launch last year, we look forward to giving them new styles and colors from the Spring Collection,” said Richard Cox, VP of men’s at Pacsun. “The campaign creative aligns with Pacsun’s continued mission to give an authentic look into our brand and provides a unique lens by showcasing consumers and their creative team.”

The black and chocolate Studio collection dropped on February 16, 2023, exclusively in 100 Pacsun stores nationwide and online at supervsn. com and pacsun.com.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene

Announces the American Premiere of New Yiddish Theatrical Concert by Josh Waletzky: “Pleytem Tsuzamen” (Refugees Together)

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene (NYTF) proudly announces production on the American premiere of “Pleytem Tsuzamen” (Refugees Together), a new Yiddish theatrical concert from creator Josh Waletzky and director Michael Barakiva, running for two performances only. Purchase tickets at nytf. org/pleytem-tsuzamen.

“Pleytem Tsuzamen” (Refugees Together) is a call for solidarity with those who are most threatened. Confronting our current reality,

the songs present a dynamic fusion of traditional forms with the social, political and personal challenges posed by the world today—and they embody the power of music to foster the courage we need to “link arms and take to the streets together against bloodshed and hatred.”

The cast includes Daniel Kahn (voice, accordion, guitar), Sveta Kundish (voice), Sasha Lurje (voice), Polina Shepherd (voice, piano), Josh Waletzky (voice), Merlin Shepherd (clarinet), Ilya Shneyveys (accordion, piano), Jake

Shulman-Ment (violin), Beth Silver (cello) and Deborah Strauss (violin).

Waletzky wrote these songs for this chosen group of master Yiddish singers and instrumentalists—the foremost contemporary performers on the global Yiddish scene. The work was first presented in a workshop concert in July 2019 at the Yiddish Summer Weimar festival, where it originally was commissioned.

of the past decades, one gap has stood out. “Where is the newly-written material, Yiddish texts written today about our world today?” “Pleytem Tsuzamen” (Refugees Together) answers that question resoundingly. Michael Barakiva directs the production, which features music and lyrics written by Josh Waletzky and a new book by Jeyn Levison. Levison also serves as creative producer. The production features sand art by Ukrainian Jewish artist Zhenya Lopatnik. The show will be presented with supertitles in English and Ukrainian.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene presents the American premiere, long-delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, on March 26, 2023 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Edmond J. Safra Hall at the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, in Battery Park City.

Josh Waletzky is the foremost Yiddish songwriter of the 21st century. Ethnomusicologist Mark Slobin has called him “the poet laureate of new Yiddish songwriting. He blends a deep sensitivity to poetics and heartfelt mes-

sages with a native’s ear for the sinuous and sensual sound of eastern European Jewish melody.” Critic Seth Rogovoy has written, “If Stephen Sondheim wrote in the language and musical idiom of his forebears, he would be Joshua Waletzky.”

To date, institutional support for Pleytem Tsuzamen comes from The League for Yiddish, The National Yiddish Book Center, Western States Center, Yiddish New York and The YIVO Institute.

MUSEUM OF ARTS AND DESIGN EXHIBITION EXPLORES WHIMSICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL WORLD OF 1960S PAPER FASHION

On view from March 18 to August 27, 2023, at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), “Generation Paper: A Fash ion Phenom of the 1960s,” explores the era’s short-lived phenomenon of paper fashion through more than 80 rare garments and accessories crafted from non-woven textiles. These fashions, introduced in 1966 as a promotional cam paign for Scott Paper Company, combined bold, graphic design with space-age innovations in materials. Surfacing a little-known chapter in the history of design, “Generation Paper” illuminates the creative partnerships of craft and commerce in the development of semi-synthetic and synthetic materials.

“Before there was fast fashion, there was paper fashion, which ironically was meant to be a demonstration of paper’s potential to behave like woven fabric,” said Elissa Auther, MAD’s deputy director of curatorial affairs and William and Mildred Lasdon chief curator. “Women who ordered the patterns and confidently wore paper dresses—as many did!— beautifully ushered in a new wave of cutting-edge material innovation.”

Originating from Phoenix Art Museum and primarily drawn from works in the museum’s comprehensive fashion-design collection, “Generation Paper” explores how the iconic silhouettes and styles of 1960s fashion—from A-line mini dresses to bikinis—became daring demonstrations of the durability and design potential of the era’s innovative paper-like materi als, such as rayon (a cellulose fiber), polyester and other synthetic blends.

Exhibition highlights include: garments that mimicked kitchen countertop and carpet patterns from a promotion for appliance manufacturer Viking; a knitted paper mini dress by Mars of Asheville; a trio of dresses, part of graphic artist Harry Gordon’s “Poster Dresses” series and featuring arresting black-and-white photographic images; Campbell Soup Company’s “Souper Dress” with a soup can motif that tapped into the public’s knowledge of Andy Warhol’s pop-art screenprints; and early examples of the dresses from the Scott Paper Company marketing campaign that fueled the demand for paper fashion and inspired other manufacturers and designers to produce their own lines.

“The fashion-design collection at Phoenix Art Museum is home to a rare—and an enviable— selection of paper garments from the 1960s. These garments, including many gifted by longtime museum supporter Kelly Ellman, are in incredible condition and, in some cases, were donated in sealed packaging, never-before opened by the original owner. As a result, audiences get to experience them in pristine form,” said Helen Jean, Phoenix Art Museum’s Jacquie Dorrance curator of fashion design and curator of the exhibition. “These whimsical garments transport us back to a moment when fashion happened to be a playground for testing new paper and nonwoven materials. They also remind us of a time in history defined by the Space Race, counterculture phenomena and formative social and political movements, all of which informed their designs.”

During the exhibition’s run, MAD will host several public programs designed to extend and complement “Generation Paper’s” content, including a curators’ talk and a series of hands-on, artist-led workshops that will invite participants to transform paper trash into one-of-a-kind fashion accessories, design textiles made of paper and explore the Japanese art of paper clothing using the traditional methods of kamiko, washi and tokuhon-shi.

DXV Partners with Christian Siriano to Debut Exclusive Bathroom Essentials During New York Fashion Week

Fall-Winter 2023

American Fashion Designer Christian Siriano’s Latest Collaboration Was Motivated by His Recent Home Renovation with Products from DXV’s Luxurious Belshire Collection

Luxury kitchen and bathroom brand, DXV, announced its partnership with iconic American fashion designer, Christian Siriano. Inspired by DXV’s Belshire Collection, Siriano designed a limited-edition luxury bathrobe and hand towel set that honors the opulence and glamor of the nostalgic 1920s Golden Era. In celebration of this partnership, Siriano’s models also wore the bathrobes backstage at his New York Fashion Week (NYFW) Fall-Winter 2023 show.

Siriano was first introduced to DXV when renovating the primary bathroom of his 279-year-old Easton Connecticut home. When incorporating the Belshire Collection, the iconic fashion designer was struck by the thoughtfully crafted and beautifully detailed products that matched the meticulous workmanship found around his historic home. When DXV approached Siriano to collaborate on a limited-edition luxury bathrobe and hand towel set, the designer drew inspiration from his newly installed Belshire Collection to capture the richness and timelessness of the 1920s Golden Era.

“It has been such a pleasure partnering with

DXV, which I believe emphasizes the many parallels that can be drawn between fashion and home design as vehicles for self-expression,” said Christian Siriano. “Personalizing clothing and accessories empowers people to reveal their authentic selves, which we also see play out when people curate their living spaces. As I was designing my own space in Easton, DXV’s timeless Belshire bathroom collection inspired me to explore the boundaries of home and fashion to create luxurious, wearable art.”

Originally built in the 18th century, Siriano’s Easton Connecticut home underwent a luxurious refresh in 2022. When designing a spa-like retreat in the primary bathroom, Siriano sought sophisticated products to fill the space, including DXV’s Belshire Shower System and Low-Spout Faucet with Cross Handles. These lean, elegant pieces are rich in character and boast faceted edges that pay homage to the Art Deco movement from which they were modeled. In addition, these pieces feature precision engineering that not only promotes excellent longevity but helps ensure superior performance. Drawing inspiration from this collection, Siriano’s bathrobe and hand towels boast a beautiful golden trim and one-of-

a-kind geometric debossed fabric detailing. These design elements capture the spirit of 1920s Art Deco design and act not only as super luxe bathroom staples, but as pieces of art.

“Our partnership with Christian demonstrates the many similarities between our seemingly disparate worlds of bathroom and kitchen design, and luxury fashion,” said JeanJacques L’Henaff, leader, LIXIL Global Design, Americas. “We’re incredibly impressed by Christian’s innate ability to capture and translate interior design concepts into such gorgeous bathroom accessories. We can’t wait to showcase this exclusive collection at New York Fashion Week and celebrate the beauty of bridging two design worlds.”

The exclusive DXV x Christian Siriano bathrobe and hand towel set will perfectly accessorize Belshire Suite displays in select DXV showrooms nationwide and was gifted to and worn by each model at Christian Siriano’s NYFW Fall/Winter 2023 show. Additionally, DXV will be hosting in-person events in top markets where the exclusive towels and robes will be gifted to customers while supplies last.

Metta Risdal: Taking Tequila to the Top

Metta Risdal, originally from Norway, came to America with a dream to share her passion and love of organic health by creating Uni Tequila, one of the very few USDA-approved organic liquors. Organic tequila is cultivated using sustainable farming practices, and the agave is free of harmful chemicals and certified by the USDA. Risdal’s Uni Tequila leaves the earth healthier for future generations. Risdal shared, “I’m very proud that we are USDA-certified organic; less than one percent of high-end spirits in the liquor industry is organic. There really has been a gap in the market.”

Growing up in Norway, Risdal’s mother encouraged an organic lifestyle by cultivating their own fruits and vegetables. Coming to America, she achieved her dream by becoming a successful female entrepreneur importing her custom tequila from Mexico to primary markets such as New York City, the Hamptons, Palm Beach and beyond. Uni Tequila can be found at notable locations such as the Baccarat Hotel in New York City, Saint Ambroeus restaurants in the Hamptons and New York City, the W Hotel South Beach, Gurney’s Resort in the Hamptons and Jupiter, Florida waterfront restaurant and private club, 1000 North.

With no desire to slow down, Risdal is shipping across the U.S. through her website. Uni Tequila’s Blanco is aged in French and American oak barrels for up to two months and is sold in 750 milliliter bottles. Most Blanco tequilas are bottled immediately, but it is Risdal’s extra aging in her barrels that gives her tequila hints of wonderful and unique flavors that separate her from other brands. Her Anejo Tequila is aged up to two years in oak barrels.

Risdal’s sustainable focus extends beyond what is in the bottle; she incorporates a natural cork stopper and organic packaging, and this emphasis on the smallest of details has catapulted Uni Tequila onto the scene. The beautiful Uni Tequila bottles stand out on any bar with their all-natural hot stamp and silkscreen signature nine-diamond pattern. The nine diamonds are an homage to traditional checkered flooring and represent the nine men and women working in both the field and distillery in Mexico who produce perfection.

As a female entrepreneur and founder, she has been steadfast in her commitment to helping other women achieve their dreams. She has sponsored many young female students in Mexico so they can get an education and become independent. Her work with Sharing a Dream Foundation in Gua-

temala, a charity fighting to provide fair wages for all, reflects her dedication to helping young women achieve success. “As a woman, I am grateful to work in the hospitality industry, which is very friendly and supportive of each other. Despite the industry being 90 percent male-dominated, it is a business supportive of women, and I encourage more women to pursue their goals in this field,” shared Risdal.

Uni Tequila is permeating not just businesses and stores; it is being welcomed into special events all around the country. The brand, which is in high demand, has sponsored over 25 events just in the past year. From events at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach to charities such as the South Hampton Animal Shelter, Uni Tequila is being enjoyed by many. Its natural flavors developed from the aging process have landed it on many shelves.

The brand was named by Risdal to represent the motto “always better together.” Uni stands for “You and I,” Risdal shared, “The idea of sharing an organic cocktail together can make life better in more than one way.”

HUBLOT AND TAKASHI MURAKAMI

LAUNCH A COLLECTION OF 13 UNIQUE WATCHES AND 13 UNIQUE NFTS

The thirteen unique NFTs are inspired by Japanese video games and TV from the 1970s as well as the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black, the first collaboration between the Swiss watchmaker and Takashi Murakami launched in January 2021. These NFTs are linked to a limited edition of 13 new and unique Classic Fusion watches that will be at Watches & Wonders 2023 in Geneva. Twelve of these watches will be available for purchase exclusively online on hublot.com, which can only be accessed by owners of at least one of the 324 NFTs issued in April 2022 as part of the third collaboration between Hublot and Takashi Murakami. These 324 NFTs were originally offered to owners of one of the two Hublot x Takashi Murakami watch models (Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami All Black & Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Sapphire Rainbow), before they were allowed to be exchanged on OpenSea. The period between the announcement of the project in New York in February 2023 and the start of sales in early April 2023 in Geneva will allow any collector interested in one of the new watches to collect

one of the NFTs available on OpenSea. Each buyer lucky enough to purchase one of the 12 new unique watches will receive a corresponding exclusive NFT.

Hublot and Takashi Murakami take the watch as a work of art to a new level, by bridging the art of fine watchmaking with digital art. The 13th watch of the collection, unveiled in New York, is the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow and it is also the masterpiece. Taking inspiration from the two previously launched pieces, this watch reinterprets the iconic emblem of Takashi Murakami: the smiling flower. Here, the 12 petals of the flower form a perfect gradient of rubies, sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites and topaz. Thanks to an ingenious ball-bearing system developed by Hublot’s engineers, the petals create a dizzying spectacle of color as they spin on an axis with each movement. The kinetic effect of the petals creates a striking effect against the 45mm black ceramic case. The center of the smiling flower is placed on top of the sapphire glass to create a three-dimensional effect.

The twelve other references, which will be available for purchase by holders of the NFTs on the dedicated ecommerce platform, recall the master flower and represent one of the petals. Twelve references for twelve hours on the dial, and twelve NFTs.

As the third watch collaboration between Hublot and the Japanese artist, this launch is proof of the incredible collectability of this partnership.

Collectors will have a period of one year during which they will have the opportunity to trade the twelve NFTs on the OpenSea platform. In April 2024, at the end of this period, only the collector who has managed to collect all 12 of the new unique NFTs will be eligible to purchase the thirteenth and most sought-after watch: the Classic Fusion Takashi Murakami Black Ceramic Rainbow. If no single person has managed to gather all twelve NFTs, the watch will be auctioned by Hublot to raise funds for charity.

La Pulperia’s interior, designed by Andres Gomez, leans into its seafood-heavy menu with fun nautical decor. The interior is anchored by a large marble bar and lined with exposed brick. The back wall is overlapped with different shapes and sizes of framed mirrors, evoking a vintage rustic look. Floor-to-ceiling windows on the far side of the restaurant give diners a clear view of the street outside.

Hidden at the rear of the restaurant is Nxt Room, an intimate soon-to-be-launched cocktail bar.

Beloved Italian Restaurant, Il Monello, Returns to NYC

After a long awaited and anticipated reopening, the popular Italian restaurant, Il Monello is back. Located at 337 East 49th Street, it is the loving project of veteran Restauranteur Steve Haxhiaj and Executive Chef Jaime Chabla who have a long history with the original eatery.

Many remember the original Il Monello, which was opened in 1974 by Adi Giovanetti. The NYC staple served Manhattan’s well-heeled and savvy diners with delicious northern Italian cuisine for over three decades. There was great fanfare when the restaurant received a 3-Star rating from The New York Times. When Giovanetti retired in 2001, the restaurant was entrusted to Steve Haxhiaj, who had worked under Giovanetti from busboy to waiter and then manager in the decade of his tenure. The restaurant unfortunately closed in 2008 due to losing the lease.

Fourteen years later, Haxhiaj and Chabla have reimagined the well-missed institution. Chef Chabla is a seasoned chef with twenty-plus years of experience working in some of the finest kitchens where he honed his skills. Chabla came to the United States from Ecuador in 1992, in search of new opportunities and to pursue his love of the culinary industry. His passion for the restaurant business began with his first job working as a dishwasher in a restaurant. He is now the executive chef at the Tuscany Steakhouse, located in Midtown, where he runs back of house and where Haxhiaj runs the front. Haxhiaj and Chabla work closely together to curate menus that are created with the highest quality ingredients and where every dish is made from scratch.

Together they are bringing back some of the acclaimed dishes from the original Il Monello and adding some new dishes from the duo’s experience at Tuscany Steakhouse.

Filled with classic Italian dishes, the menu includes a wide range of antipasti, pasta and seafood and meat options. The pasta dishes, in particular, are a must-try, with options like the Linguini Vongole, Cacio e Pepe and Fettuccine al Ragù all making an appearance. The U.S.D.A. Prime Dry Aged steaks are also a highlight, with a variety of cuts to choose from. And for those looking for something sweet, the signature desserts certainly satisfy. There is also an extensive and thoughtful wine list and expertly made cocktails.

In addition to the tasty food, Il Monello also has a warm, intimate, and inviting atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated in a classic Italian style, with a distinct modern European vibe, and a welcoming staff. White tablecloths and cozy seating are upscale, yet not stuffy or pretentious. It’s the perfect balance of excellent service, ambiance and gastronomy.

As an international model, beauty queen, humanitarian and entrepreneur, Flaviana Matata truly does it all. Matata famously won Miss Universe Tanzania in 2007, which was the very first year the competition took place. This meant that she went on to be the first representative for her home country of Tanzania in the Miss Universe Pageant, where she ultimately came in sixth place. This introduced her to the fashion and beauty industry, after which she was eventually scouted while modeling for a charity event across the world in New York City, and from there, her modeling career began to soar.

“Just like most models, I got scouted, but for me it was at a charity event in NYC, where we were raising money to build a hospital in Tanzania,” Matata said. “I was invited as an international guest. A year later, after having all my papers (work permit) in place, I moved to NYC where I stayed for few months and went to spend time in London to build my book and where I ended up doing so well. Booked my first few campaigns and the rest is history.”

Since then, Matata has modeled for many famous brands and designers in the fashion industry, including Tommy Hilfiger, Jason Wu, Tory Burch, Diesel and Vivienne Westwood. Matata has also won many different awards throughout her career, including the Most Inspirational Woman award at the Global Women Gala in 2018 and the Humanitarian of the Year award at the Swahili Fashion Week Awards in 2013.

“I have been blessed to work with so many [great designers] which makes it very hard to mention a few,” Matata said. “But I enjoy working with brands that book me not just because I am a great model but those who care about what I stand for. Working with such brands is very great as I also get to use my voice for good.”

Matata’s aspirations have always reached far beyond the world of modeling; she has also continuously focused on giving back to her community and making the world a better place.

MARCH 2023 • MANN ABOUT TOWN 57 COVER FEATURE

“I wish I had someone to hold my hand or advise me when I started [modeling],” Matata said. “If there’s anything I would advise, it is to build a team outside your agency that will help you to grow beyond modeling, but they will also have your back when needed. Work smart and do not sell your soul for anything, focus on what you want to build and use modeling as a bridge to do other things since we do not have control about our career at times. Three key people are: a great manager, accountant and an attorney; I am still struggling with the management part though as it is tricky out there.”

Modeling may not always be full of glitz and glamor, but Matata is extremely grateful for all of the wonderful people and experiences being a model has brought into her life.

“It has helped me to meet so many amazing people and travel, I have learned so much and it has been an eye opener on so many levels,” Matata said. “I am able to do everything I do because of modeling, from my charity to my beauty and personal care line. Modeling has been such a bridge for everything that Flaviana is today. Super grateful for all my clients and agents I have and continue to work with.”

Seeking to use her fame and success to give back and be a voice for those in need, Matata has become very involved in philanthropy. She has even created her own charitable foundation, the Flaviana Matata Foundation. Matata has found ways to merge the worlds of fashion and philanthropy with projects like her recent collaboration with Diamonds Do Good on an onyx and diamond bracelet, the proceeds from which will go towards the Flaviana Matata Foundation’s mission of educating young girls in Tanzania.

“Flaviana Matata Foundation (FMF) is a 501(C)3, seeks to reduce the barriers and challenges adolescent girls and young women in Tanzania face on a day-to-day basis in their pursuit of their human right of receiving an education,” Matata said. “At its core, FMF seeks to empower, inspire and support these girls to achieve their full potential by removing societal stigmas and traditions that serve as blockers to them realizing their future and potentials.”

Matata has always been a huge advocate for the education of young women. Matata herself has a diploma in electrical engineering and works to give other girls the opportunity to learn and grow as people through education in a wide variety of ways.

The Dell Scott Collection Presents New Fall/Winter Collection “Emerge” at New York Fashion Week

The self-titled Dell Scott Collection was established in 2015 by American Designer Dell Scott. Dell Scott is a CFDA Runway 360 designer and 2023 board member of Fashion Group Internation al-Philadelphia. Scott hopes to empower other women to embrace their inner beauty through her creations in the fashion industry. In addition to being a fashion designer, Scott is also an entrepre neur and author.

The Dell Scott Collection was created with the intention to make designs that highlight vibrancy and sensuality. The luxury brand is dedicated to creating exquisite formal couture clothing. Each season, the brand launches a new themed collection, with their FW23 season’s collection being titled “Emerge.”

The new collection conceptualizes the idea that “there is no darkness without light and in turn no light without darkness.” “Emerge” is a collection illuminated by both light and dark elements. When merged, the elements create a balanced medium.

The 20-piece formal women's wear collection is constructed of silky satins, luxurious sequins, foiled metallics and lavish pearl mesh. Keeping true to her trademark of elegant style, Scott’s designs reveal deep necklines, slits, flared styles and dramatic silhouettes. The show opened with iconic ‘70s supermodel Debbie Dickinson walking the runway in a black satin pearl trim petal gown with a scalloped plunging neckline. Supermodel Mimi Tao modeled a floor-length black satin mermaid gown. Other looks included teal sequin dresses in both halter and strapless cuts, a champagne

One of the hottest topics in skin care right now is the skin barrier. Whether you’re actively scanning store shelves for a new facial moisturizer (or simply scanning your social media feed) you have likely come across some “skin barrier” mentions. From product labels to magazine ads to Instagram captions, caring for your skin barrier is being touted as the secret to great skin.

If you’re like us, however, you’re probably wondering what all the buzz is about. What exactly is the skin barrier, anyway? To dive into the details and discover why the skin barrier is so important, we turned to skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth.

An influential segment leader in the beauty industry, Roth’s eponymous skin care line is the number one privately held prestige skin care brand in the USA. Known for creating breakthrough formulas that deliver astonishing results, Roth leads all research and development efforts at his state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility.

The latest product innovation to emerge from his lab is Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Rich Barrier Moisturizer, a cream formulated spe-

cifically for the skin barrier. Here, Roth breaks down “skin barrier” science and reveals everything you need to know.

What is the skin barrier and why is it important?

The skin barrier is the outermost layer of skin that helps prevent moisture loss by defending against the drying and distressing effects of external dehydrators. Common dehydrators include blue light, pollution, severe weather, air travel, heat, air conditioning and overly drying skin care treatments.

What are signs of skin barrier damage? Redness, dryness and irritation are all signs of dehydration, which means your skin barrier may be damaged and more vulnerable to external dehydrators.

How can you improve your skin barrier? A rich barrier cream that helps replenish moisture is key!

Tell us about your new Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Rich Barrier Moisturizer.

My customers now have two Water Drench moisturizers to choose from—the original, which is light as a cloud, or my new rich cream. My Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Rich Barrier Moisturizer is perfect for drier skin because

it drenches your skin with protective moisture and provides 120 hours of enhanced hydration with 3% HydraFence, a new breakthrough ingredient. Brilliant!

Why is Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Rich Barrier Moisturizer perfect for the skin barrier?

The formula feels so rich and moisturizing, your skin barrier is going to love it! However, what makes this cream so amazing is that it’s clinically shown to strengthen the skin barrier immediately… you won’t believe your eyes! The secret is an innovative Moisture Barrier Boosting Complex, which helps increase the look of skin thickness, firmness and elasticity to combat the drying effects of external dehydrators. There’s also a 30% Hyaluronic Acid Complex that draws in water and 2% BioWave, which helps to prevent future moisture loss.

Besides supporting your skin barrier, why is keeping your skin moisturized important?

Moisturized skin is younger-looking skin! Staying consistent with your skin care routine and applying a moisturizer every day and night will help keep your skin looking plump and youthful. My Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Rich Barrier Moisturizer is clinically proven to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles immediately and over time.

Elizabeth Tringali PA-C: Functional Medicine Expert and CEO of Tringali Vibrant Health

“Fountain of Youth”

Early childhood experiences lead Elizabeth Tringali down the path to her life’s work. Her code of arms is the well-known words spoken by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” There has never been a more important time to pay attention to what we put in our bodies. With auto-immune diseases on the rise and the reality that a calorie is not a calorie anymore, the approaches of the past are not the tools deployed today. Her holistic approach integrates science with nature.

My curiosity led me to inquire what was the catalyst to take on this work. I learned that when Tringali was 12, her dad had a widowmaker heart attack and later a 7-way bypass. As he was being treated, she turned the traumatizing events into positive action, devouring the nutrition handouts and immersing herself in the dietary guidelines. These experiences were the initial spark for a lifelong fascination with the body, health and nutrition. After discovering and uncovering through vast learning, Tringali pursued Functional Medicine. Beginning her career in internal medicine in 1999, she has become a sought-after board-certified physician assistant in

Palm Beach County. Tringali integrates traditional and alternative medicines to advance the optimal functioning of your body and its organs.

Noticing the secret whispers that began to get louder, I found myself hearing Elizabeth Tringali’s name around town and was motivated to make my way through her door as I was experiencing these concerning vertigo moments. I knew my system was out of balance, but I didn’t know why or what to do to restore it. Entering through the doors of Tringali Vibrant Health had me immediately feeling at ease. A highly skilled team, a spacious practice that candidly had a number of creature comforts which was perfect for calming my anxiousness.

What struck me about Tringali is that we could launch into a no-holds-barred conversation and I could say anything. Truly amazed at how swiftly an hour flew by, there was no wasting time with the ever-attentive Tringali. By the time I was bidding the office adieu, I had my lab work scheduled and a follow-up appointment on the calendar. Feeling better already and a bit giddy, I turned and gave the peace sign and a smile expressing that I couldn’t wait to learn what the results would reveal.

Tringali is not only skilled and wise; she is statuesquely beautiful and exudes a warm, empathetic demeanor. Generous with her vast knowledge and a keen understanding that we are all unique, her approach focuses on customized, individualized and personalized medicine. And a signature of Tringali Vibrant Health is clearly defined processes that leave you feeling confident in the team and grateful for the care. The road to optimal health is a marathon, not a sprint.

Having graduated from many conversations with Tringali, and being a good patient, keeping my bloodwork current, I know how to be a strong advocate for my health. Intrigued by the variety of treatments and thankful to have received some IV therapies and vitamins that got me through the disruptive symptoms. Onward and upward, I invite you to stay tuned for my next discussion on hormones. And, if you are feeling off, noticing your spark has dimmed or are dealing with something serious, Tringali and her amazing team serve patients at their Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm Beach offices. Meet the ultimate luxury yacht charter in Southeast Asia, pioneering experiential travel across international waters, and showcasing its most vibrant countries with a cast of spectacular yachts, Rebel and Rascal.

Indonesia, Malaysia & Thailand

Promising unadulterated, adventure-fueled fun, Rascal Voyages is one of Southeast Asia’s finest yacht charters, offering travelers with a thirst for exploration endless opportunities to unlock the otherwise inaccessible beauty of Indonesia and beyond – with each journey authentically tapping into the local culture and cuisine.

Brand new for 2023, Rascal Voyages unveils Rebel – a traditional handmade phinisi yacht that accommodates up to 10 guests across five suites and four spacious common areas, including even a fine wine cellar and outdoor cinema under the stars. Committed to uncovering destinations with soul –with a “floating villa” concept rather than that of a traditional yacht – the highly trained, local expert Rascal Voyages team crafts thoughtful bespoke itineraries with both cabin and private voyages yearround.

Currently chartering exclusively through Indonesia, Rascal Voyages imminently plans to expand with cross-border itineraries through Malaysia and Thailand.

Set The Scene

Rascal Voyages offers off-the-grid expeditions aboard two custom-designed yachts: flagship, Rascal and brand-new sister, Rebel, throughout Indonesia by sea and on land. Marrying hand-crafted contemporary design, exceptional service and passionate local experts and guides on board, Rascal Voyages delivers once-in-a-lifetime itineraries of discovery and exploration across Southeast Asia year-round. Signature Indonesian journeys navigate Komodo and Raja Ampat all year, and discover the Spice Islands, Ring of Fire and Rote seasonally. Also new for 2023, Rascal Voyages will venture into Thailand’s Tarutao National Park and Langkawi, Malaysia, for the first time.

While no two voyages will ever be the same, guests can expect a truly all-encompassing, curated Southeast Asian adventure that incorporates local food, nature, wellness, culture and community. Rascal Voyages ensures travelers are able to get up close and personal with the world’s most diverse marine life, trek to panoramic viewpoints, connect with Indigenous tribal leaders and learn from commu-

nities, uncover untapped beaches – complete with Rascal Voyages’ own pop-up beach clubs – marvel at many diverse bird species, try their hand at every watersport and even create homemade face masks using natural mud from rich mineral waters in the Raja Ampat archipelago. Rascal Voyages are available to charter exclusively for groups or families, or as single/double-occupancy cabins with set departure dates for couples or solo travelers looking to meet like-minded others.

The Cast of Rascals – Rascal & Rebel

Just a short tender ride from the shoreline of one of Indonesia’s 18,000 islands awaits the flagship, Rascal: a handcrafted phinisi yacht measuring 30 meters. Built in Sulawesi, Indonesia from traditional craftsmanship to create a “floating villa” concept with interiors evoking the laid-back vibe reminiscent of a Hamptons beach house, Rascal is the base for a remote adventure with no compromise on luxury. Sleeping up to 10 guests, the yacht features five stylish and spacious suites all uniquely positioned above deck to create a light-drenched sanctuary. At 266 feet squared, the Master Cabin comprises an en-suite bathroom, large desk, king-sized bed and an additional daybed for afternoon siestas after a day exploring the wondrous surroundings. Stateof-the-art features include a flat screen TV, fully stocked minibar and wraparound windows. Four

further cabins are generous spaces complete with en-suite bathrooms and elegant wooden storage.

There are four common areas with space for groups to dine, connect and celebrate, as well as numerous private corners for those seeking respite. At the heart of the yacht is the main deck area; an al-fresco dining space where guests enjoy their daily meals freshly prepared by Rascal’s onboard chef and, as always, curated to individual preferences. There is also a further indoor saloon for pre-dinner entertaining and cocktails. The foredeck is lined with comfortable New England-style day beds and stylish rattan lounge chairs, while the flat rooftop deck offers glorious 360-degree views of surrounding islands and makes for the ideal location for meditation, yoga and sunbathing. This is also the greatest vantage point onboard for guests to take in magnificent sunrises, sunsets and magical starry nights.

Much like its sister, Rebel – which debuted this year

– also accommodates 10 guests across five spacious cabins. Inspired by the verdant sceneries and landscapes explored on a voyage, the interior features hand-woven fabrics and carvings that nod to tribal influences. Perhaps the most impressive of all, however, is the outdoor cinema under the stars; a beautiful set-up that can be paired with exceptional cuisine and fine wine from Rebel’s very own crafted wine cellar, stocking a wide selection of Old and New World wines and Champagnes.

Onboard both yachts, thrill-seekers will enjoy access to full scuba diving and snorkeling equipment and an in-house PADI dive instructor, four sea kayaks, three stand up paddleboards, wakeboards and more, and to wind down, one can pass the time perusing the movie library, playing board and card games, sipping cocktails and lounging on the rooftop sunbeds.

Destinations

Rich in personality, culture and color, Indonesia is one of the most enchanting destinations in Southeast Asia that has recently reopened to international tourism after two and a half years. Visitors can dive to challenging depths to swim alongside rare, exotic sea life, surf some of the best breaks in the world, hike to soaring mountain peaks and immerse themselves in authentic village traditions, all within one magnificent country. Home to over 18,000 islands, only 8,000 of which are inhabited, Indonesia is best explored by water, though Rascal Voyages ensures to surprise and delight its guests with land-based pop-ups at unexpected turns throughout a voyage. Sailing enables travelers to see the archipelago in its truest form, without another tourist in sight, with all cabins above sea level. Rascal Voyages currently charters exclusively through Indonesia, with imminent plans to expand itineraries to Malaysia and Thailand.

Cooking demonstrations, wine and spirit tastings, and panel discussions are all led by world-class chefs and beverage experts.

Hotel Jerome is a perfect place to stay on this trip. Part of the famed Auberge Resorts Collection, the property has been the social hub of Aspen since its opening in 1889 at the height of the town’s silver boom. World-class powder, shopping and nightlife come together for the best ski and mountain scene in the Rockies just steps outside this landmark hotel.

DEAN WEST

Palms,
ARTS & AFFAIRS IMAGES COURTESY OF DEAN WEST
The
Vol I Exhibition

Coe + Co Photography Gallery in Palm Beach, Florida will be presenting The Palms: Volume I, a collection of photographs by Dean West. The exhibition is on view from February 16 – March 11.

For over a decade Dean West has created narrative-driven tableaux works, developing a captivating world of his own through deliberately staged imagery. In The Palms, the artist explores aspects of Florida’s culture and daily life, using theatrical images to dramatize the narratives of local characters and landscapes. While West’s surreal, atmospheric photographs perfectly capture moments suspended in time, the characters within these compositions tell a larger story: one that inhabits our own perceptions of time, place and identity.

Included in this exhibition is the final edition of The Wrangler, which has become the most iconic image from The Palms series. In a familiar Floridian narrative, rich greens and warm afternoon light grace the lush, manicured gardens beside the iridescent pool, while in the foreground the American alligator faces off with a boldly positioned Wrangler. Bringing together the choreographed character, provocative narrative and strong use of symmetry and color, this piece perfectly embodies the essence of West’s body of work.

In La Piscina I and The Boys, we find two boys out for a midnight swim as the cerulean blue, mid-century pool lights up the scene with a mesmeric twilight coolness. West’s compelling approach to storytelling is heightened by the introduction of a lone wolf, leaving the viewer in suspense as to how this scene has come to be, and what may happen next.

In contrast to the rich, narrative works, West also finds drama in the simplicity of form in Cade Silhouette #1 and #2, with figures suspended in time in stark monochrome. Additionally, the South Beach images offer simpler glimpses into everyday life at the beach, which, while less conceptual, still invite the viewer to contemplate the relationships and tensions at play behind these captured moments.

The artist reflected, “Since the 1990s, the constructed image has been ubiquitous throughout the international art scene with names like Jeff Wall and Cindy Sherman. Creatively staged spectacles that require a magnifying glass over every small detail. Pictures that have us dabbling in the streets of Hollywood rather than Henri Cartier-Bresson’s The Decisive Moment. What we can ensure you will get from these artificially created worlds, is not just a beautifully crafted print hanging in your designer living room, but a direct link to the artist’s identity: a fingerprint that connects their world to yours. A portal of the soul. Photography lives in a world of truth and deception. If there’s one thing we can all agree on, however, when you stand in front of a picture what you’re experiencing is real and that’s all that matters in that moment. As the great Susan Sontag once wrote, ‘one can’t possess the present, but one can possess the past.’”
