mann’s opinion
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far. Personally, it’s been one of the busiest summers with attending golf outings, Hamptons events and the growth of Mann About Town. It’s famous all over the country and each day we strive to improve ourselves.
I’d first like to mention our Mann Charitable Foundation (MCF) Golf Outing. The foundation was founded in memory of my parents, Marion and Irving Mann, with its mission to fund research for geriatric diseases, and ultimately find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. In the past year, MCF expanded its initiatives to include Chron’s and colitis, breast cancer and liver diseases. This year, we are expanding our donations to lymphoma and macular degeneration. It will be a great day of golf and fundraising.
We are so proud to have provided 4,000 copies of our magazine and exclusive reprints of Dr. Elisa Port, Dr. Leslee Shaw, Dr. Michal A. Elovitz and Dr. Roxana Mehran for the Aspen Ideas Festival, an event that Mount Sinai helps sponsor and participates in with their expert panelists, and offering health screenings for attendees. Mount Sinai has put tremendous effort into the new and exciting concierge service in the Palm Beaches and it’s a great success.
Of the events I’ve attended, the most significant one we are sharing with our readers is the Jerusalem Conference. This prestigious event was attended by the Mayor of Jerusalem, Moshe Lion; Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan; CEO of the Or Avner Leviev Foundation and LLD Diamonds, Chagit Leviev and many others. It was a pleasure to sit with Chagit, and an honor to be there with my wife. It was a great surprise to watch Chagit on Access Hollywood as she talked about the movie, “Pink Diamond.”
I’m excited about the connections we are continuously making and the direction we are heading in. We try to cover a broad genre of ever-evolving categories as we add new features to make things more interesting and exclusive. In doing so, I’ve heard constant raves about our Peter Thomas Roth column.
I could go on but there is never enough room on one page. Every day, we work around the clock to improve ourselves and there is never enough time in the day. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer and loves August 2023 issue as much as we do. We look forward to continuing to bring you the best lifestyle content out there throughout the year.

editor’s letter
Welcome back to Mann About Town! This August issue is so exciting, and I can’t wait for everyone to read the features. In every article, we strive to give our readers the latest on luxury living, so why not live in style with a glass of rosé on the side? Our cover feature knows a little something about the wine industry after dabbling in a sports broadcasting career. Kavita Channe, TV personal turned wineprenuer, talks about her career transition and what it took to create Sip Channé. It was a pleasure getting to know her through our conversations and I know everyone will enjoy her story as much as I did!
However, our cover isn’t the only conversation to read this month. French artist, Patrick Rubenstein, takes us through his artistic inspirations and favorite pieces in a Q&A. And to introduce our new Wine Lovers section, Pine Ridge Vineyards winemakers talk about the ins and outs of their product.
As always, we provide you with the what’s what in events, dining and travel. We are honored to share the Jerusalem Conference held in New York City and the story of the 100,000th donor the non-profit organization, Gift of Life, is celebrating.
Now that I’ve settled into my position as the Mann About Town editor, I want to say thank you to my family and friends for their constant support. To the contributors, I look forward to each issue we will create together. In the meantime, enjoy the August 2023 Mann About Town!

French Heritage Society’s Sixth Annual Book Award Celebration “The House of Fragile Things: Jewish Art Collectors and the Fall of France”
BY JAMES MCAULEY
The French Heritage Society (FHS) is pleased to announce the winning book and author of its sixth annual book award, “The House of Fragile Things: Jewish Art Collectors and the Fall of France” by James McAuley. This year, the award ceremony took place at the headquarters of Villa Albertine in Manhattan. The evening commenced with the award ceremony, followed by an elegant, celebratory cocktail reception. The winning author received a $5,000 cash prize in addition to an award goblet designed by Thomas Jefferson while he served as Minister to France. During the event, Mr. McAuley gave a presentation on his book, with an audience Q&A session afterward.
The French Heritage Society Book Award was launched in 2017 in celebration of the organization’s 35th Anniversary. The Book Award recognizes and honors a work of distinction that illuminates, for the general public, either an important element of French cultural or historical patrimony (especially but not solely in the domains of architecture, décor, couture, gardening and the arts) or the considerable and noteworthy influence France, its citizens and its culture has had in shaping American history, thought and culture. Recognized works address their topic and themes with originality and exemplary style, and must be written in or translated into English and published in America in the three years preceding the rewarding of the prize. Past recipients include “Notre-Dame: The Soul of France” by Agnès Poirier, “A Bite-Sized History of France: Gastronomic Tales of Revolution, War and Enlightenment” by Stéphane Henaut and Jeni Mitchell, “Proust’s Duchess” by Caroline Weber, “Finding Fontainebleau: An American Boy in France” by Thad Carhart and “The Other Paris” by Luc Sante.
The Book Award’s esteemed jury was comprised of Cheryl Hurley, president emerita of the Library of America, Anne Poulet, director emerita of The Frick Collection and Caroline Weber professor of French and Comparative Literature at Barnard College, a visiting professor at the Sorbonne and author of “Proust’s Duchess,” winner of the Third Annual FHS Book Award.
The five shortlisted books for the 2023 French Heritage Society Book Award were:
· “The House of Fragile Things: Jewish Art Collectors and the Fall of France” by James McAuley
· “Miss Dior: A Story of Courage and Couture” by Justine Picardie
· “Napoleon: A Life Told in Gardens and Shadows” by Ruth Scurr
· “The Glory and the Sorrow: A Parisian and His World in the Age of the French Revolution” by Timothy Tackett
· “The French Mind, 400 Years of Romance, Renewal and Revolution” by Peter Watson

The Central Park Conservancy Women’s Committee Celebrates the 41st Annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon
Cherished spring event raised over $4.3 Million in support of Central Park.
On Wednesday, May 3, the Central Park Conservancy’s Women’s Committee hosted their sold-out, annual Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon, raising $4.3 million to support the Conservancy’s enduring mission to maintain the Park as a respite for all New Yorkers and visitors.
The iconic event, generously supported by Presenting Sponsor Harry Winston Inc., is a celebration of Central Park and shines a spotlight on the public’s support of the Conservancy’s work to maintain and care for the Park. The event was also supported by Corporate Sponsor JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Premier Sponsor, St. John. Women’s Committee President Jenny Price was joined by Central Park Conservancy President & CEO Betsy Smith, Chair of the Conservancy’s Board, Tom Kempner, as well as Luncheon CoChairs Kathryn Beal, Kristy Korngold, Melanie McLennan and Suzy Welch, who welcomed over 1250 guests to the tent in the Conservatory Garden.
“The Frederick Law Olmsted Awards Luncheon is a celebration of Central Park and of the Central Park Conservancy’s mission to protect it every day of the year,” said Betsy Smith, president and CEO,
Central Park Conservancy. “I am grateful to Jenny and the entire Women’s Committee for their steadfast work and support of the Conservancy and for making this annual luncheon as impactful for the Park as ever.”
The afternoon kicked off with a convivial reception in the Italianate Center Garden with guests gathering around the fountain and pergola. Following, attendees dined with longtime friends and supporters of the Park. This year, former Women’s Committee President, Yesim Philip, the Conservancy’s Historian Emerita, Sara Cedar Miller and longtime Conservancy supporter Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, represented by Ira Millstein, Barry Wolf and Eoghan Keenan, were honored for their exemplary commitment to the organization. “The Women’s Committee provides invaluable support for the Central Park Conservancy’s essential work in preserving New York’s most iconic landmark,” said Jenny Price, Women’s Committee president. “Congratulations to this year’s honorees Yesim Philip, Sara Cedar Miller and Weil, Gotshal & Manges for their continued advocacy of the Conservancy.”
Guests included Michael Bloomberg, Misty
Copeland, Katie Couric, Mariska Hargitay, Patti Harris, Anne Harrison, Nina Garcia, Alexia Leuschen, Andy Lew, Amy Miller Madry, Nelle Miller, Gillian Miniter, Margo M. Nederlander, Amelia Ogunlesi, Christine Schwarzman, Martha Stewart, Stellene Volandes and Ali Wentworth.
The Women’s Committee, in partnership with the Central Park Conservancy, is a community of philanthropists with a passion for preserving and enhancing Central Park. For nearly four decades, the Women’s Committee has raised funds for the reconstruction of major Park landmarks, including the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, the re-creation of the urns at Bow Bridge, and the restoration of the Conservatory Garden.
The chic, garden-themed fabric for the tablecloths was provided by Scalamandré and each guest received a signature luncheon umbrella donated by Wathne, Inc. Whispering Angel rosé was generously donated by Château d’Esclans. Central Park Conservancy volunteer hats were designed and donated by Patricia Underwood. The luncheon was catered by Abigail Kirsch Catering Relationships, with festive spring décor by Andrew Pascoe.

It can be said that we New Yorkers have a different kind of smart, we know what’s good, and what isn’t; we can sift through quickly what is talent and what is minutia.
In David Thompson and Sharon Washington’s book, we get fair. In the music and lyrics, you get mediocre from John Kander and Fred Ebb (additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda).
featuring paintings, photography, sculptures and mixed media installations by artists in the advertising industry. The show included artworks by 135 contemporary artists on the 22 screens of the Oculus. mvvoart.com
What is excellent is Beowulf Boritt’s scenic and co-projection design. Also excellent is the lighting design by Ken Billington, where he makes the stage at times a carnival of lights. He does his best to make this lackluster show pop. Susan Stroman too does an admirable job in the direction and choreography. With a good ensemble cast, the dancing is inspiring, much like they used to do at Diamond Dan’s in Times Square back in 1946 when this two-hour and forty-five-minute musical takes place.
GABRIELA GIL
Artist Gabriela Gil connects elements of the immediate present through the use of line, color and rhythm. This combination in her painting reflects an admiration for both nature’s softness and the human instinct to connect.
The show runs into problems its lead actors. Both Colton Ryan and Anna Uzele are not good enough to lead this behemoth of a musical. Both actors are inconsistent- even weak at times.
The show itself has too many sub-plots within the main plot. The nexus is that Francine (Uzele) wants to be a singing star. She marries Jimmy (Ryan); they are an interracial couple in the ‘40s. As Jimmy mourns the loss of his brother, he drinks more and more. The drinking gets him fired from many of the clubs where he works. As Francine’s star rises, he becomes more jealous. Jimmy leans on his best friend Tommy (Clyde Alves). Alves is a standout in his role; an excellent dancer and actor, he keeps the audience entertained all evening.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Gil has moved throughout South and North America her entire life. The constant migration has shaped her multicultural perspective and nurtured her interest in art as a way to transcribe her personal experience using a unique visual language. Her studio is based in New York. She will hold her first solo art exhibit showcasing her work on December 3. gabrielagil.com
As a tribute to the Big Apple, I wish “New York, New York” was better. With all its fanfare, the show never gains any momentum. The musical numbers are not memorable and the lead actors do not have any real chemistry between them.

Quest Workspaces Is The Perfect Hybrid Office With Lots Of Treats
Photography by Quest Workspaces
As co-working spaces grow in popularity, the largest woman-owned shared workspace company in the country is leading by design. CEO and Founder of Quest Workspaces, Laura Kozelouzek, brings elements of residential design into commercial office spaces, embracing a hybrid, “resimercial” approach that promotes comfort, community, in-person collaboration and creativity alongside productivity to entice workers to the office.
The hallmark of “resimercial” design breaks down the barriers between work and home – think French country-style kitchens, rustic cabin decor, bistro tables nestled into alcoves with sunset views, exposed brickwork and masonry, elegant wallpapers, natural lighting and tufted seating which can all be found throughout Quest Workspaces’ 10 locations in South Florida and one in New York City.
The amenities at each center range from meeting rooms to co-working areas and private rental offices to suit any need. For example, The Quest “Lake House” room offers a warm, private space, equipped with a leather recliner, a faux deer head placed in the wall and a fireplace to enhance the mood with ambient lighting, making it irresistible to cozy up with a laptop or a good book.
The office spaces are equipped with lots of natural lighting, without compromising the privacy of the surrounding spaces and granting access to nature. Prioritizing mental wellness in the workplace, Kozelouzek brought the outdoors inside by incorporating biophilic design elements that replicate the sensations of the natural world and aid in reducing illness, stress and mental health issues while stimulating positivity, creativity and teamwork.
The newest location in Coral Gables boasts a 180-degree wrap-around terrace with dedicated spaces for socializing, eating and working out. In West Palm Beach, the rooftop is transforming into a zen-like garden space, boasting the layering of freestanding plants, climbing vines and an array of lush landscapes.
“Over the last two years, we’ve grown accustomed to the comforts of home,” said Kozelouzek. “I intentionally hired a residential interior designer in lieu of a commercial designer to ensure our co-working centers were equally comfortable and inviting as they are professional and ergonomic.”

Two major aesthetics from two different regions of the U.S. have been brought together to create a completely new trend. Over the past two years, the Coastal Grandmother look, which is known for its casual denim, linen shirts and floppy hats, has become a part of the everyday style vocabulary – mainly due to the social media platform, TikTok. Now we are seeing its convergence with the classic cowboy look, flowy button downs paired with leather fringe jackets and the oversized sun hat being substituted with the Western cowboy hat. As coined by many on social media,The Coastal Cowgirl is the new craze.

SLAVA SERVES MODERN UKRAINIAN CUISINE IN THE FORMER PEGU CLUB SPACE
Partners Nazar Hrab, Travis Odegard, Matt Sylvester and Josh Spiezle—who also own the East Village’s Pineapple Club and Bee’s Knees Cocktail Bar in Williamsburg—have come together to create Slava: Ukrainian cuisine not only for Ukrainians but for the New York dining scene, complemented by an extensive wine list built on a foundation of rare, allocated wine selections and a high-end cocktail bar that pays homage to the former Pegu Club.
Nazar Hrab is from Lviv, Ukraine and worked as a doctor, delivering over 50 babies before coming to America in 2013. Starting over in New York and yet to learn any English, he eventually landed at Jean Georges’ Mercer Kitchen, where he met his future business partners Matt Sylvester, a former chef and bartender, and Travis Odegard, a manager. Their relationship flourished over after-work cocktails at the Pegu Club, never dreaming that the space would one day be theirs. They opened their first venture, Pineapple Club in 2020 to great success, where they met and joined forces with tech entrepreneur and designer from Seattle Josh
Slava was conceptualized in 2021 to be a restaurant that celebrates Ukrainian cuisine and culture. It is named after Nazar’s mother Yaroslava and has taken on a second meaning as a reference to the phrase “Slava Ukraini,” which means “Glory to Ukraine.”
Chef Pavlo “Pasha” Servetnyk joined the team in January 2023 after he was introduced to Nazarby a reporter, Artem Baybuz, for the “Voices of America” at a fundraiser for Ukraine in the East Village. Nazar hired Chef Pasha after discovering his impressive resume: he won Ukraine’s MasterChef, The Professionals in 2019, and held internships at world-renowned, three Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain and two-Michelin-starred Gaggan Anand in Bangkok, Thailand.
He went on to open five Breadman pizzerias in his native Ukraine and when war broke out, he transformed his largest pizzeria into a bakery and distributed 500,000 loaves of bread to the
starved residents of Kherson for free. For this, he was forced to flee first through Crimea to Georgia, then Spain and finally landing in New York, where he began working at Michelin-recognized La Mercerie.
His goal for Slava is to modernize and elevate Ukrainian classic dishes for a New York audience by exploring authentic recipes and employing modern gastronomic techniques. His kitchen staff is entirely made up of recent Ukrainian emigres, which helps him to maintain the authenticity of the dishes.
Starters begin with a play on the Caprese salad using Ukrainian Brinza cheese in place of mozzarella, substituting olive oil for roasted sunflower oil and adding identifiable herbs that are commonly found in the Ukrainian countryside—chervil and dill—finishing the dish with his own creation of a chive sorbet. For Ceviche, he uses flounder, which is abundant in the Black Sea, with thinly sliced fermented garlic, in a sauce made of blended dill sprouts, garlic and tomato.
42 MANN ABOUT TOWN • AUGUST 2023
Spiezle, together opening Bee’s Knees and Slava in November 2022.
The house specialties are Varenyky, Ukrainian potato dumplings stuffed with a variety of ingredients including pork fat and fermented cabbage. Also available is Lazy Varenyky deconstructed to resemble a Ukrainian gnocchi tossed with cottage cheese, sour cream, dill butter, Brinza cheese, porcini mushroom and oyster mushroom.
Main dishes are: Duck Leg, duck leg confit served in duck jus with potato gratin that is spiralized on a mandoline slicer and fried until crisp; Fried Chicken Kyiv Sandwich, an Americanized version of the Ukrainian classic which the chef prepares by stuffing a chicken breast with dill and butter, tossing it in egg and flour and pan frying it, served on a fresh bread made in house daily with aioli, pickled carrots, lettuce and hot sauce, with roasted potatoes lathered in porcini mushroom mousse on the side; and, of course, Borscht, with a dollop of sour cream and two large pork ribs protruding from the bowl.
Chef Pasha has transformed a popular Ukrainian school snack into his signature dessert, Raspberry and Sour Cherry Meringue Tart, a crème brûlée tart layered with candied raspberries and sour cherries, topped with a large dollop of meringue that resembles an ice cream cone.
The restaurant also recently launched brunch and offers Cheese Pancakes, sour cheesecakes topped with caramel, sour cream and raspberry sauce; Salmon Crepe with spinach, poached egg, hollandaise sauce and cream cheese; and Potato Pancake, a thin potato pancake with porcini mushroom mousse, topped with crispy onions and scallions.
Owner and Beverage Director Nazar has curated a global wine list with a selection of rare, allocated wines that are available at just a few auctions each year as its base, including Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Corton Grand Cru 2017 and Antinori Tignanello 2019. The comprehensive program includes well-known wines from legacy producers, as well as more uncommon, upcoming varietals and producers.
Cocktails are Nazar’s specialty; he has been lauded by the press for his ingenious creations and meticulous attention to detail, often going through several iterations of a recipe to ensure each drink is perfectly balanced. He uses Aquafaba extracted from chickpeas to give the cocktails a foamy head rather than egg white, as seen in the Slava Appletini, vodka, melon liqueur, apple and lime; and Raspberry Martini, vodka, raspberry and lemon. His other signatures include the Espresso Martini that helped Pineapple Club gain its popularity and a Clarified Borscht Cocktail, made using a borscht base substituting chicken stock for vegetable broth,
blended with cream and clarified, fortified with vodka which sees 20% of its proceeds donated to Revived Soldiers Ukraine, which has been providing medical treatment to wounded Ukrainian soldiers, as well as delivering medical equipment, supplies and humanitarian aid to Ukraine since 2014.
There is also a series of vodka infusions, ingredients like horseradish and honey, beets and cherry infused in vodka for up to 20 days, available as individual shots, flights of three and 20-ounce bottles for the table.
Slava is tucked away on the second floor of a landmark building, bearing no signage which adds to its allure. The interior was designed by Nazar’s wife Roseanna Kegeyan; its blue-green walls are accented by burgundy velvet banquettes and dark wooden tables. Towards the rear of the long, slender space is a beautiful wooden bar. Slava is meant to be a fun, playful environment, with a high-end sound system and a well-curated playlist to create a fun, lively dining experience. On the walls are paintings by Ukrainian artist Kateryna Lisova that are available for sale with proceeds going to benefit Revived Soldiers Ukraine.
The restaurant is available for private events as well as off-premises catering. For more information, visit slavanyc.com.

Almond opened in 2001 and has been local and artisanal ever since. Co-owner and Chef Jason Weiner runs the everchanging and seasonal menu as he highlights the growers, fishermen, artisans and winemakers he works with. Co-owner Eric Lemonides and Weiner focus on ensuring their ingredients are locally sourced. In doing so, Almond has become the go-to spot for locals, celebs, tourists and other Hampton restaurant owners. The inspiration to open Almond was simple for Weiner and Lemonides. Weiner said, “My partner and I like food and people. So it made sense.”
Some signature dishes on their menu include steak fries, escargot paired with Pernod, garlic and fennel croutons and Moules Frites. Among the classic French offerings on the menu are ingredient-focused dishes that are constantly changing according to what they have access to, sometimes up to a couple of times a week during the growing season. “We cook what our friends are growing. So sometimes that leads to takes on ethnic street food and peasant cuisines. Sometimes updates on the original classic French and Mediterranean things,” Weiner said.
If you want to check out Almond in the summer, Weiner suggests the salads and the duck entrée, followed by a dessert including peaches and blueberries. He also notes anything with corn right now is going to be great. “You won’t find a more locally-focused restaurant. I’m full of self-doubt but not about that [ingredients],” Weiner said.

Kavita Channe on Starting Sip Channé
BY ALEX BAUMBUSCH
AUGUST 2023 • MANN ABOUT TOWN 51
TV personality turned Winepreneur, Kavita Channe, first dabbled in the world of sports and entertainment before joining the wine industry with an impressive list of gigs from sideline reporting and giving sports betting picks for Fox Sports, to being the team reporter for the Jacksonville Jaguars, to hosting “The Chat” alongside Casey Desantis on NBC and ABC, as well as covering the NHL, MLB, NBA and MMA.
For Channe, stepping into the sports industry was a more unconventional approach. After competing with so many women in entertainment hosting who had the “sexy girl-next-door” trendy look that wasn’t hers, she opted to pursue sports instead. She started her career with a viral interview with basketball legend, Lebron James, which ultimately led her to start her own YouTube channel, “1st DownAndDirty.”

Her YouTube channel launched her career in sports broadcasting which led to her being hired by FOX Sports followed by multiple other jobs Channe has done.
“With covering all of these sports all year long, I realized I needed a vacation. I just wanted to disconnect and travel a bit for a reset,” Channe said.
Channe’s fun translated to a month in Europe, with a big portion of her time being spent in France and Italy where she was offered “pinkish-salmon-colored” rosé at each hotel she visited. Channe fell in love with the drink after taking notice of the cultural change she was seeing.
“It seemed like a fabulous vibe with both men and women drinking it there. It didn’t have the connotation that rosé is for ladies. Everybody was drinking it. I fell in love with that,” Channe explained.
From her experience in Europe, Channe began to frequent her favorite restaurants, and when browsing the wine lists, noticed that the rosé list often had a mere two options, neither of which she loved. So, she flew back to France and attended a rosé conference, something dreams are made of. She couldn’t get in as a consumer, so she used her journalism credentials to work her way in.
Over the course of three days, Channe tasted hundreds of wines and eventually connected with a family of winemakers and a deal was made. Channé continues to work with them to this day. In its second year, Channe began mixing different existing bottles sent from her winemaker to get the exact taste she was looking for. At first, he thought she was crazy to do this, however, this varietal went on to win a silver medal at the Concours Général Agricole Wine Competition held in Paris. Fast forward to today, Sip Channe has recently won two gold medals with their Channé Rosé along with a silver medal with their newest varietal, Channé Blanc.
“I’m not a sommelier (yet, anyway). And I can’t always tell the exact notes of the fruits or hints of this or that. However, I can tell you if I like it or don’t. Some people get overwhelmed with the complexities of wine and there is no judgment within our brand. Wine is meant to be fun!” Channe said.
Sip Channé went from creating rosé to a white wine, Channé Blanc. Again, the goal was to mix different wines to cultivate a different taste unlike anything else offered on the market. Think White Bordeaux meets Chablis. It has been recently added to many wine lists in Aspen, home to some of
the top sommeliers in the nation.
“It’s a combination of our skillful, talented and creative winemaker and the consumer, which is me,” added Channe. “It’s a beautiful collab and I absolutely love making magic with others”
Channe also explained that when she visits wine stores, she has pinch-me moments when she sees her wine sitting alongside rival brands like Domaine Ott, a brand Channe respects and has enjoyed on many occasions prior to forming her own label.
In 2020, after quarantining in Florida, Channé headed as a first timer to the Hamptons. Not knowing a single soul, she would put her toddlers to bed and head out by herself every night from restaurant to restaurant meeting GMs, staff and owners in hopes of scheduling tastings the following day and...voila! She opened a new market. From there she brought on a few more team members including her now COO, Jonathan Chabat, who has extensive background in wine and hospitality, and expanded from Florida and the Hamptons to more territories including Nashville, Aspen and Staniel Cay in the Bahamas and more.
Although stepping into the wine game has proven

“Some people get overwhelmed with the complexities of wine and there is no judgment within our brand. Wine is meant to be fun!”
successful for Channe, many people still ask why she left the world of sports and TV. The answer is that she hasn’t fully exited that industry; she still has some projects on the side, whether it’s hosting a TV show in The Hamptons or Dining Divas on the Travel Channel or doing cameos in other TV projects. Channe is also a mom to two small children, Micah and Maverick. Through it all, she is appreciative of what founding Sip Channé has given her.
“I have two small children and it’s amazing for them to see how passionate I am about my business. And we are truly blessed to be able to travel to different places through this work and share in those experiences together,” Channe said. “It’s so much fun making memories with my children and seeing them so excited about our brand.”
Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t see a woman at the forefront of a wine business and Channe has seen first-hand the effects of this. She’s experienced some pushback in the business side of tastings and the deals made. She notices that as a female, it sometimes takes her a little more work and time to close vs what she sees with males in the business. However, her background in male-dominated sports broadcasting has given her a tough skin, so she knows how to handle criticism.
“As a woman in any industry, you have to work a little bit harder to be taken seriously,” said Channe.
“And it can be frustrating but at the same time, being a female in business also has its advantages.” With the many roles Channe juggles, she still finds time to take a step back and enjoy the life she has made, noting she has never felt special or different from anyone else because of her extreme accomplishments. Her kids ground her more than anything, but she explains that other methods do, too.
“We say prayers every night. I do a lot of yoga, pilates, walking, hiking and strength training. Whatever it is, [I love] getting outside to be in nature,” Channe said. “I feel so much more productive, successful, grounded and humble with having children than I ever did before.”
She created the wine brand because although she wanted wine, she couldn’t find the wine at home that she enjoyed like the ones back in France. She also knew other people wanted a wine that has no sugar, no additives and low sulfites, playing along the lines of the type of wine Channe set out to create.
“I created Sip Channé to share what I wanted and that’s why we’re here,” Channe said. “Just knowing life is beautiful and magic is to be made. And we are making some of that magic. It’s a dream come true.”
Channe’s passion for life and the view she has on living reflects in the work she continuously does
with charities. Each charity she works with mirrors the times in her life.
“When I was pregnant, I worked with Miami Diaper Bank and I executive produced a PSA on drowning safety and how the most important lifesaving skill a child could learn is swimming,” Channe said. “For the past ten years I’ve also worked with 211, an organization that allows you to dial 211 rather than 911 with any problem you’re having. It will connect you with any organization with the issue in hand.”
The list of charities Channe works with is always increasing and recently includes Veterinarian International, African Community & Conservation Foundation, Miami Women Who Rock and Hamptons Community Outreach. With her busy schedule, Channe also works behind the scenes creating brand awareness for each cause. With the opportunities Channe has been given, she follows the mantra “Giving is Living” and urges each young person starting a business to work backwards from their end goal.
To any young entrepreneur, Channe shared a few words of advice for beginners. “Dream it, but DO IT,” Channe says. And her favorite quotes are “The secret to getting ahead is getting started and if people aren’t laughing at your dreams, then you’re not dreaming big enough.”

Almae Collection is delighted to introduce La Nauve Hôtel et Jardin, which opened its doors on June 10, after a four-year transformation and total reimagination. The belle époque mansion has been entirely reimagined, with just the exquisite exterior and facade remaining the same.
Internally, the design thoughtfully reflects the rich heritage of the beautiful property, whilst artfully incorporating modern features. The 12, spacious accommodation rooms, including one Junior Suite, all feature delicate furnishings and unique touches such as beds and headboards made using the roots of local Sequoia trees. The 12-acre gardens provide a total sanctuary with plenty of peaceful corners to relax and unwind while reading a book, enjoying a private picnic or even practising a spot of yoga. Featuring a century-old Sequoia tree, a small canal “Jean Simon,” a variety of fruit trees, a vegetable garden and rose bushes, the garden leads down to the Charente River, where guests can enjoy the use of a private boat and canoes. In addition, an alfresco pool is the perfect place to cool off in the summer months.
Using the fi nest local ingredients, including homegrown herbs and vegetables from the gardens, the culinary offering at La Nauve reflects the terroir of this fascinating region – with, of course, excellent wines and Cognacs.
The main mansion houses an intimate gastronomic restaurant, a fi ne dining experience that combines gourmet cuisine and warm hospitality. A fresh, seasonal menu - created according to the hotel vegetable garden– lends pride of place to regional produce from the forests, sea, Cognac distilleries and local farms. The restored distillery building is home to Brasserie des Flâneurs, serving elegant dishes inspired by Chef Anthony Carballo’s childhood memories.
No trip to Cognac is complete without sampling the famous spirits, renowned for its fi nesse and complexity. Visit the big names like Hennessy, Rémy Martin and Martell, or journey to Delamain, where hotel guests are offered an exclusive visit to the cellars and a unique dining experience. Guests will also be able to pop into town via boat to explore Old Cognac or even try the Otard tour, where visitors are able to visit the old Chateau de Cognac.
Unlike anything else in the area, this enchanting, historical hotel is set to put this less-visited region of France fi rmly on the map.

Uncover Portugal’s Must-See Destinations
Once an oft-overlooked vacation destination, in recent years, Portugal has fast become a place for savvy travelers, and here are just a few reasons why you should pack your bags and visit now. Located along the southwesternmost point of continental Europe, Portugal boasts incredible beaches, vibrant cities, perfectly preserved historical villages, world-class cuisine and wondrous natural landscapes. From Lisbon’s dynamic streets to the Douro Valley’s picturesque vineyards and Porto’s colorful skyline, this diverse and friendly country offers travelers unique and memorable experiences that will last a lifetime. Embark on an extraordinary journey as we guide you through an itinerary that highlights the best of Portugal, inviting you to discover the hidden gems that await in Lisbon, the Douro Valley and Porto.
Lisbon: Where Old World Charm Meets New World Chic
Begin your Portuguese adventure in Lisbon, the country’s bustling and charismatic capital city. Here deep-rooted traditions of Portuguese culture fuse easily with modern-day living. Lisbon effortlessly charms visitors. Located on the west coast of the Iberian Peninsula, with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Tagus River, you will find lively neighborhoods, noteworthy landmarks and a palpable sense of vitality here.
Lose yourself in the intriguing streets of Alfama and Mouraria, the city’s oldest districts, where you will find the best viewpoints and most famous landmarks. Start your day with a visit to the striking São Jorge Castle. Perched on Lisbon’s highest hill, this medieval fortress features breathtaking panoramic city views. To get there, hop on one of the city’s charming cable cars. These iconic yellow trams transport you through Lisbon’s hilliest neighborhoods, offering a delightful and nostalgic way to discover the area’s distinctive cobblestone streets and small squares. While gliding by, take notice of the scenic vistas and colorfully tiled building facades. In the evening, enjoy authentic and local cuisine in one of the neighborhood’s pleasant cafes and restaurants, and for a bit of Portuguese folklore, visit one of the remaining original Fado houses where these traditional melancholic melodies are performed nightly.
The Baixa, arguably the city’s heart, is one of Lisbon’s most visited neighborhoods. Explore ancient ruins, the historically significant Rossio Train Station, and stroll along the pedestrian-only Rua Augusta, bustling with interesting shops and cafes. Given the area’s popularity, be wary of touristy restaurants with pictures on the menu and opt for a cafe off the beaten path.
In the neighborhood of Belém, watch the sailboats and marvel at architectural masterpieces such as Torre de Belém and the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, both testaments to Portugal’s glorious past. After, indulge in the traditional sweet treat, Pastéis de Belém, a tasty custard tart topped with a hefty dose of cinnamon.
For some of Lisbon’s best restaurants and nightlife, visit the Barrio Alto district, where the vibe is young, energetic and continues long into the evening. As the sun sets, people spill out into streets lined with hip bars, wine shops and fantastic dining options.
For an exceptional hotel stay, opt for the quiet and upscale neighborhood of Amoreiras, where Sublime Lisboa is the star. Centrally located, it is an excellent choice, with easy access to beautiful public gardens, cultural sites and superb shopping on the nearby Avenida da Liberdade. Beloved by dermatologists for decades, Retinol has gone mainstream as the demand for Retinol products continues to rise. The promise of ageless skin, fewer lines and wrinkles, a more radiant-looking complexion—the benefits of this multitasking powerhouse are enough to make anyone a believer.
Thanks to recent TikTok trends like skin cycling and Retinol sandwiching, the wonders of this Vitamin A derivative are no longer a secret. A facial skin care ingredient once found primarily in serums and moisturizers, this skin-smoothing essential has now made its way into body creams and eye patches alike!
To learn more about the recent Retinol obsession, we turned to skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth. An influential segment leader in the beauty industry, Roth’s eponymous skin care line is the number one privately held prestige skin care brand in the USA. Known for creating breakthrough formulas that deliver astonishing results, Roth leads all research and development efforts at his state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility.
The latest product innovations to emerge from Roth’s lab are Retinol Fusion PM Hydra-Gel Eye Patches and Jumbo-Size Retinol Fusion PM Body Moisturizing Treatment. Here, Roth talks about the science behind these QVC® exclusive launches and why Retinol is on everyone’s radar.
Why is Retinol such a hot topic these days?
We all want younger-looking skin. But while Retinol has always offered superior anti-aging benefits, it hasn’t always been well tolerated by all skin types. Recent skin care innovations, however, have changed all that. Today’s customers have access to much gentler Retinol formulas that are still equally effective. Social media has also helped to fuel the fascination as more and more women and even men discover the power of Retinol as an anti-aging essential.
Why does your skin care routine need Retinol?
Traditionally, we turned to Retinol at the fi rst signs of lines and wrinkles. But Retinol benefits more than just mature skin. An improvement in the appearance of uneven skin tone and texture, tighter-looking pores and brighter-looking skin are a just a few of the reasons why it has become such a hit among younger customers these days. Best of all, the sooner you start using Retinol, the greater your anti-aging benefits will be.
What makes your Retinol products so cutting-edge?
My goal was to develop Retinol products that everyone could use no matter their skin type. I work with my chemists to develop powerful Retinol products that are pure and potent, yet gentle and non-irritating. It’s the Retinol of tomorrow, here today! My Retinol products are formulated with Time-Released Microencapsulated Retinol that delivers a gradual stream of non-irritating Retinol all night long while you sleep… Brilliant!
Tell us what makes your new Retinol Fusion PM Hydra-Gel Eye Patches so unique.
My new Retinol Fusion PM Hydra-Gel Eye Patches deliver maximum results with minimal irritation. They’re saturated with a potent solution of Time-Released Microencapsulated Retinol that visibly helps reduce the look of fi ne lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet and darkness immediately and over time. An innovative Sapphire Peptide Complex and Caffeine help to fi rm and improve the look of under-eye puffi ness, while Adenosine, Allantoin, Niacinamide and Hyaluronic Acid leave the delicate eye area appearing smooth, hydrated and youthful. Plus, they’re a terrific way to wind down and relax before bedtime. Your eye area is going to look gorgeous!
What makes your Jumbo-Size Retinol Fusion PM Body Moisturizing Treatment an essential?
I brought this bestseller back in a new limited-edition jumbo size because my customers couldn’t get enough of it! Lightweight and nongreasy, it delivers a gradual stream of non-irritating Retinol all night long to help visibly improve the look of crepiness, fi ne lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. It’s enriched with nourishing and moisturizing ingredients including Shea Butter, Avocado Oil, Colloidal Oatmeal and Aloe, and it helps soothe the look of roughness and dry patches, leaving the skin on your neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs and feet appearing smoother, healthier and younger.
Where can customers purchase these new Retinol Fusion PM products?
You can purchase my Retinol Fusion PM Hydra-Gel Eye Patches and Jumbo-Size Retinol Fusion PM Body Moisturizing Treatment at an incredible price one day only. Watch me live on QVC® all day Saturday, August 12 starting Friday at Midnight ET to learn all about this Today’s Special Value®—and prepare to see astonishing results!

Golden 8 Skincare Healing and Renewal
BY MARGARET BASTICK LUCE / MEG SHEA, COPY EDITOR
Captivated by the pristine beauty and purity, the Robson family has traveled to Australia’s mystical Top End and Far North Queensland for many years. We’ve always been astounded by the survival and resilience of the Australian crocodiles that reside in this vast wilderness. Their impenetrable skin maintains its resilience in the most extreme of tropical environments, said Golden 8 Founder Josephine “Jo” Robson.
The name Golden 8 is inspired by this mystical region, the sun-drenched rivers and waterways of the Top End, and more importantly, the 8 key ingredients that make up the Pure Golden 8 Complex. A family-owned business that develops, creates and produces our range of products in Australia. Our Crocodile Oil is 100% Australian-owned, sourced, produced and made. After years of research and insight, we know that the crocodile has one of the most powerful immune systems, which has remained relatively unchanged for 240 million years.
Foreshadowed for centuries as a “Miracle Oil,” crocodile oil has a similar structure to human skin oil and as a result, it is easily absorbed and can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin. It is magical when used post laser treatment or peel, accelerating the healing and in many cases amplifying the results. One of their signature products is the Golden 8 Face Serum. Akin to a multi-vitamin for the skin, the nutrient-dense serum supplies your skin with a daily dose of vitamins A, C & E, and an unrivaled fatty acid profile in an antioxidant-rich formula that restores moisture and nourishes your depleted skin, while addressing a broad range of skin concerns.
The Golden 8 Complex is created through a blend of crocodile oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, which is derived from coconut oil, jojoba oil, pas-
sionfruit seed oil, olive oil and vitamins E, C and A. Jojoba oil is a natural emollient and provides anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Suitable for all skin types, it is a gentle skin-softening moisturizer that helps to keep the intercellular structure of the epidermis intact while keeping bacteria out. Robson’s evident passion for what she is doing, and the results her company’s products produce, coupled with distribution in the United States, garners attention. The packaging depicts luxury and simply said, Golden 8 products work. Committed to intersecting impact and results, Golden 8 helps the indigenous people of Australia by providing jobs, while aiding in the healing of people’s skin. What goes beyond luxury is its global impact. A clean, effective solution to many skin problems alongside addressing real issues for everyday people. This is more than a pretty girl, Golden 8 offers true healing for those dealing with burns, scarring and the like. In the case of Golden 8, luxury is knowing that the product line is intentionally created and the company is run impeccably. Beyond service, what stands out is the company’s dedication to providing jobs and purpose for people who have suffered over the generations. Doing the right thing matters.
Whether sitting across from or having a phone conversation with this contagious beauty, Robson, you will be compelled to learn more and want to integrate Golden 8 into your daily regimen. “At Golden 8, we have harnessed the potency of this extraordinary extract and the exceptionally powerful properties within it to address skin concerns including dry, chapped, calloused, cracked and sun-damaged skin, rashes, burning, itching, wrinkles and so on.” Hundreds of people from rural communities, including many Aboriginal communities, are employed in the harvest and farming of Saltwater Crocodiles. Most of these jobs are in isolated rural areas where other jobs are very scarce,” said Robson.
With cosmetic and medicinal properties, Golden 8’s products also address a myriad of issues like diabetes, eczema, shingles and stretch marks. Eczema is far more common than many know, affecting millions of children and adults across the world. A common bacteria found on our skin can cause eczema to flare up. Crocodile Oil is known to reduce the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria due to its high levels of Oleic Acids.
All Golden 8 Skincare products are GM-certified and manufactured according to the highest level of quality and standard, from raw materials, manufacturing facility suitability, equipment, processing, laboratory hygiene and storage and handling of products and ingredients. The environment and indigenous population deserve attention and being able to give back to the people matters.
Robson said, “Many Aboriginal groups in the Northern Territory of Australia have strong cultural and spiritual relationships with crocodiles as a totem, and Saltwater Crocodiles are an important motif in Aboriginal Art. Involvement in the crocodile harvest and management builds on and strengthens indigenous people’s cultural and traditional knowledge and practices, enabling them to stay ‘on the country’ using traditional skills, rather than moving to urban areas for jobs.” Being able to contribute to the preservation and sharing of this rich history and culture with the people of Australia and the vast number of visitors from around the world year after year left me with a lasting impression.
Whether you are looking for an extra glow, addressing a serious skin issue or want to use clean skincare products that have a positive ripple effect, Golden 8 is a brilliant choice.

What is Pine Ridge known for?
Joshua David Mendoza Widaman: Located in the heart of Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District, Pine Ridge Vineyards is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines. These wines are produced from well-drained soils, sourced from different appellations throughout Napa Valley: Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, Carneros and our home base in the Stags Leap District.
What makes Pine Ridge wine unique?
Colleen FitzGerald: While Pine Ridge Vineyards is known for Cabernet Sauvignon, we also produce a unique Chenin Blanc + Viognier blend – a unicorn of sorts. First made in 1995, the Chenin Blanc + Viognier blend is a staple of Pine Ridge Vineyards — what started out as an experiment for our winemakers has since become one of our most beloved wines! Grapes in this wine originate in France but come from different regions, producing a very rare duo that makes a well-balanced, crisp white wine. With notes of lime and orange blossoms from the Chenin Blanc and stone fruit characters from the Viognier, those who experience a tasting at our vineyard typically favor this wine.
Joshua David Mendoza Widaman: Although the Stags Leap District is our home (and we are very proud of the fruit we grow here), we farm estate vineyards in four additional appellations in Napa Valley that are truly unique. We bottle them as separate Cabernet Sauvignon wines. So, if you want to see what differentiates each growing region from the others, I highly recommend that you come by and taste them!
When did Pine Ridge open and what was the influence?
CF: Built upon a ridge of rugged palisades and surrounded by steep hillside vineyards, the founders, Gary and Nancy Andrus were true pioneers in the winemaking industry, determined to produce wine in an area of slopes, rather than on the traditional valley floor. This unique geology and untraditional terroir provide diversity in our soil types and microclimates, which has influenced our stellar, award-winning wines.
JDMW: At Pine Ridge Vineyards we want our guests to feel connected to the

environment that we call home. The tasting rooms tucked within our European-inspired cave systems offer a journey into our hillside and the team offers fun programs such as Stargazer Dinners and Morning Hikes at The Ridge to further connect our guests with our beautiful surroundings.
How did you get interested in winemaking?
CF: I didn’t grow up drinking wine so my passion for it did not develop overnight, instead it amassed over the years. I first fell in love with winemaking when I landed an internship in Paso Robles for harvest. I was very intrigued and wanted to know more about winemaking, specifically in the lab through monitoring fermentations. I was completely hooked after learning you can travel abroad for harvest. I ended up only completing one harvest abroad, but we’ve hosted many international interns at Pine Ridge, which has been an enriching and wonderful experience for me.
JDMW: Thanks to parents who have always enjoyed wine and travel, I am very fortunate to have experienced European culture from a young age. What really started my interest in pursuing a career in winemaking was a very special internship experience at one of our Stags Leap District neighbors back in 1999. This, coupled with my experience with a life-changing bottle of wine during my senior year of college in 2000, lead me to transfer to UC Davis where I pursued a degree in Viticulture and Enology, dreaming of a career in the winemaking arts. Now I am embarking on my own journey with wine here at Pine Ridge Vineyards, and I am very excited about it!
What is your favorite wine to make?
CF: Chenin Blanc + Viognier is my main blend at Pine Ridge Vineyards, and it is my passion! As these grapes would typically not be blended, the chemistry behind this balance is so fascinating and fun to work with. I also enjoy sharing a tasting experience of this wine with our guests because while it is familiar to me, it is typically a new wine to them, with many flavors to explore – a fully immersive wine experience!
JDMW: Red wines are what drive me and are where I derive the most pleasure in crafting excellence. It’s what I have enjoyed most over the years and what I have consistently pushed myself (and the teams that I work with) to be most exemplary at creating. When tasting one of these wines, I am always awestruck by the intricate layers that we can weave throughout.
What is the hardest part about making wine?
CF: Bottling can be challenging, as there are a lot of moving parts happening to make sure that everything is perfect on bottling day. To me, it is very important to ensure that each bottle is precise in its taste and design, and is always memorable to those who continue to pick up our Chenin Blanc + Viognier. There is a line for error with things moving so fast, so making quick, smart decisions is essential.
Once the bottling of a vintage is complete, I feel like I can breathe again!
JDMW: The hardest part about making wine is knowing that once we are done with the blend (and it is bottled) this will be the last version of our story that we will be able to tell. A vintage is a complex, calculus equation that begins the year before harvest with the creation of the dormant buds in the budwood, that are pruned back over the winter. Once this wood is pruned back, goes through bud-break and grows shoots and clusters that are the essence of the current vintage, the fruit is harvested and brought into the winery in hopes that the current vintage can be encapsulated within the wine. Over the next two years of barrel élevage, our team aims to capture the essence of what that year and its associated events meant to us. However, it is always on the day of bottling when I typically experience the artists’ dilemma.
What is the most rewarding part of this job?
CF: I love talking to people I meet and hearing about the experiences they have had while drinking our Chenin Blanc + Viognier. Often, I hear stories about how our wine “saved their marriage,” or the first time they tasted the blend or where they enjoy drinking it the most. Someone once told me about how they would assume most people enjoy drinking Chenin Blanc + Viognier at the pool in the summer, but his favorite place was in the hot tub after a long day of skiing. I love mountain sports and could relate to this on so many levels, so it was a really nice conversation!
JDMW: The most rewarding part of this job is working with a strong team that feels like family and shares in my goal of creating one of the best expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. To get the opportunity to walk into one of our retail partners’ stores and see a vintage of our wine on their shelf is quite gratifying. When I look back upon a vintage, I think about the decisions that we made as a team, and the concessions that we made in our personal lives in pursuit of this singular goal. I will always be immensely grateful for all that our team is able to accomplish together.
Do you have a favorite food and wine pairing?
CF: My favorite wine pairing with Chenin Blanc + Viognier is anything spicy. The Chenin Blanc has a great natural acidity with a touch of residual sugar on the palate, making it an outstanding food-friendly wine. I love a creamy spicy pumpkin curry with a glass of this blend because the wine lightens the palate, making your mouth water for more curry, creating a really satiating meal.
JDMW: Sauvignon Blanc and sea bass with a beurre blanc sauce, seasoned with tarragon is a stellar pairing for summer. For colder months, a piping hot casserole of cassoulet, with a glass of Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon would be my preference.
When you’re not drinking Pine Ridge wine, what’s in your glass?
CF: Champagne all day. I love the bubbles and complexities that are created during the secondary fermentation and the aging in the bottle.
JDMW: For my wife and I, Petite Sirah is one of our favorite varietals. It makes a very powerful wine, and it is the most Californian of noble grape varieties. Ridge and Green and Red Vineyard are also a couple of our favorites.
How long does it take to create a perfect taste?
CF: For the Chenin Blanc + Viognier, we are looking for wine with an abundance of aromatic fruit and floral expressions that pop right off the glass. With great growing seasons for white wine – like we are seeing this year – I am expecting the blend to come together quickly. The Chenin Blanc grapes are ripening slowly, and I am expecting the grapes to retain the natural acidity found in the Chenin Blanc. For the Viognier, the grapes are building complex floral aromas that will give the right balance to the blend.
JDMW: For my tasting partners (Colleen, as well as Mike Conversano, assistant winemaker and Sarah Treweek, enologist) and our cellar staff, it takes quite a while. However, I find this one of the most rewarding parts of my job. This is when all the hard work that went into the growing and vinification of the vintage is finally realized, and the jigsaw puzzle that is a wine blend is composed. Over the 20-to-26month barrel aging of the wines in our cave, we will taste all the pieces of a blend once every 3 months. Each quarterly blending session ends up being 2 to 3 weeks long and about 16 hours per week. Quite a lot of time is spent mastering the blends, we’ve got 18 of them – and we need them to be the best version of themselves for each vintage. Therefore, I look at it as a quite efficient process in the long run.
How do you know when the wine is good to go?
CF: I know the wine is ready to bottle and land in the customer’s hands when the blend reminds me of ripe white peach, orange blossoms and a touch of lime. While blending, we are looking for the right balance between the Chenin Blanc and the Viognier. Each varietal brings different aspects into the blend, so tasting the wine coming together into one final wine is magical.
JDMW: I’d say the wine is good to go when you must put it into the bottle, and you can’t physically do anything more about it! That might be what it looks like to the casual observer – however, when properly managed, the time-consuming process of putting a wine blend together over its élevage time in the cellar ends up being quite a well-strategized game plan. Over time, the veil obscuring the final blend is slowly turned from opaque to translucent and (at the final blending before bottling) finally lifted to reveal the picture that was visualized throughout the growing season and harvest.

The Montauk Beach House & Article Bring ‘70s Vibes to The Beach

The Montauk Beach House, one of Hampton’s most talked about hotels, is celebrating 70 years of serving the Montauk community. The Montauk Beach House will be paying homage to its former tenant, the Ronjo Resort Motel, by transforming their space into a ‘70s oasis with help from online modern furniture brand, Article’s, which recently launched its ‘70s-inspired collection: The ’70s Edit.
“Back in 2012 the owner of the Ronjo handed over the space to us, and it’s been uphill ever since. We’ve kept some aspects of the old space, the Tiki heads and a hidden sign out by our grill, but this year we really wanted to kick it up a notch,” said the hotel owner Larry Siedlick. “Utilizing the furniture in Article’s recent ‘70s Edit collection allowed us to bring in that nostalgic yet high-quality feel to our space.”
“As an online-only furniture brand, experiential partnerships allow customers to interact and experience our furniture in a more delightful way than a typical showroom visit,” said Duncan Blair, VP of marketing at Article. “With a legacy that dates back to the ‘70s but a modern aesthetic, our partnership with the Montauk Beach House is the perfect way to bring Article’s ‘70s outdoor collection to life.”
Article offers a curated catalog of stylish, high-quality furniture, paired with a great online shopping experience and an in-house delivery team that makes shopping easy and enjoyable. The ‘70s Edit, is Article’s contemporary take on design elements the ‘70s was famous for — earthy tones, natural materials and playful pops of color. To recreate themes from The Ronjo, Montauk Beach House will feature items from the ‘70s Edit, such as the Avila Beach Sand Swivel Chair, the Kera Beige Coffee Table, Gota Vault Yellow Outdoor Pillow Set in addition to some of the company’s most popular outdoor pieces, like items from the Kezia collection.
To mark the partnership and celebrate the ‘70s all summer long, The Montauk Beach House is renaming its bar and grill The Ronjo Bar & Grill, an ode to its former tenant. The bar will be re-designed into a tiki-inspired space reminiscent of the original design, equipped with a dedicated ‘70s-inspired cocktail menu featuring Mai Thais and Painkillers.

TALIDARA JEWELRY RELEASE NEW LIMITED EDITION WRIST WATCH “HEIWA”
78 MANN ABOUT TOWN • AUGUST 2023
MANN OF THE HOUR

Premium jewelry brand Talidara is releasing its first wristwatch inspired by tranquil living and Japanese art.
The watch goes by the name “Heiwa” which is Japanese for “peace,” a name it was given as a representation of how to use the watch, which is without stress and constantly chasing somewhere in time. Rather, the watch’s metaphor encourages wearers to slow down and enjoy the time they have.
Made and assembled in Denmark, the birthplace of Talidaras founder Frederik, the watch’s most striking aspects are its visuals, as it features vibrant white and red colors made from ceramic. The bright colors make for a very stunning look, enhanced with an art dial in darker monochrome nuances resembling a peaceful mountain line.
On the technical side, Heiwa features “Talidara Cal. XX8,” a modified Swiss 2824 movement with a 38-hour power reserve. The movement is visible from the window in the case back. The dimensions of the watch are on the smaller size, measuring 35 mm without lugs. The smaller size flaunts a classy look and makes the watch an elegant decoration on the wearer’s wrist. This aspect aligns with the brand’s “calm” vibes, as most newer watches are bulky and at times, make it look like the watch is wearing you and not the other way around.
Heiwa is available for order now and shipments will start going out in November 2023. There will only be 88 pieces of the watch made, once they are sold out there won’t be any more made.

ARTS & AFFAIRS

What got you into art? When did you first know you wanted to be an artist?
There are many reasons why I became what I am today. My memories bring me back to childhood, of course. My story begins very early in Paris, and more specifically in SaintGermain-des-Prés where I grew up. On my way to school, I used to walk past art galleries. There were plenty in the area at the time. I used to stop in front of their windows to admire the artwork on display. It was a real visual experience! I think it helped shape my eye and feed my love of art.
How/when do you do your best work?
I have my feet firmly on the ground but I’m still a great dreamer. I’m constantly drawing in my head, even when I’m doing sports. I also talk a lot with my wife and my two daughters, who are architects, and I always ask for their advice.
How did you experiment with light to add to your art?
It was primarily a desire to beautify my work and give it a new dimension. It’s a professional deformation that is rooted in my background in fashion and my taste for ornamentation. Today, I’m pursuing this same approach by working with several materials that reflect light: gold and glitter. Gold, of course, with its power to transform light, elevates the artwork to another dimension. It adds golden reflections and creates natural variations in light that alter the visual perception of the artwork according to its intensity.
Do you enjoy what you do?
Creating art allows me to express myself, explore my creativity and engage with the world in a unique and meaningful way. The process of bringing an idea to life through my mediums brings me joy and a sense of fulfillment. It’s a form of self-expression that allows me to communicate and connect with others on a deeper level. Art is a constant source of inspiration and a means of personal growth for me.
What is your favorite piece of art you’ve created?
It’s difficult to answer because there are so many, but I have a particular affection for the very first kinetic artwork I made when I was 17. It’s a portrait of my two cousins, which hangs in my studio in Paris. I’m very proud of it, because without it, everything that’s being achieved today would never have happened.
What makes your art stand out?
It’s motion, obviously kineticism! I took up the accordion principle that my father taught me when I was a teenager and developed it later on a large scale. Unlike most kinetic artists who essentially explored abstraction, I developed my own personal world, inspired by Pop Art and figurative art. Color is also fundamental for me: it’s what makes a painting stand out for me and it’s a chromatic jubilation. I like bold colors, colors that describe the elements of the composition in a vibrant way. I don’t want to confine myself to one particular style. What I like about my work is being free to explore different worlds inspired by pop culture, surrealism, geometric abstraction, cinema and music. What also sets my work apart is its versatility, but the common thread is always kineticism.
Does your childhood/where you’re from influence your art?
What inspires you?
I draw my inspiration from life, encounters, everyday life, music, museum visits and the artists I admire.
What other artists inspire you?
Leonard de Vinci and Charli Chaplin.
Did you have any doubts about becoming an artist?
I’ve never asked myself that question. I don’t even realize that I’m an artist. For me, it’s completely natural, spontaneous.
Why did you leave the fashion industry?
The decision was obvious: it was time to turn the page on fashion and devote myself fully to artistic creation.
I grew up in a family with a mother who was passionate about cinema and a father who was an avant-garde and multi-talented artist who excelled at painting. Creativity and ingenuity were valued in our home. When it came to art, I was deeply influenced by the masters of Op art, the pioneers of kineticism: Vassarely, Cruz Diez and Yaacov Agam, as well as the masters of American Pop art: Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring.
Was there a specific point in time that made you decide to switch?
It was after my father died that I remembered what he taught me when I was still a teenager. It was he who introduced me to the principle of kineticism. So, I took a decision that would radically change my life: to devote myself entirely to creating kinetic artwork.

100,000TH BIRTHRIGHT ISRAEL PARTICIPANT JOINS MARROW REGISTRY
To date, 434 life-saving transplants have been made thanks to Birthright alumni.
Birthright Israel reached a monumental height, with its 100,000th participant joining the registry to potentially save the life of a patient battling leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related diseases. Mitch Linefsky, 20, from Fairlawn, New Jersey is the 100,000th donor.
This meaningful achievement is the result of a nearly two-decade partnership between Birthright Israel and the Gift of Life Marrow Registry, which offers Birthright Israel’s young participants a chance to pay it forward by joining the registry. To date, Birthright participants have matched 3,750 patients battling blood diseases, leading to 434 life-saving transplants performed.
Gift of Life Marrow Registry is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children and adults battling leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell, other cancers and inherited immune disorders find matching donors for lifesaving blood stem cell and bone marrow transplants. The registry houses its own state-of-the-art stem cell collection center, biobank and laboratory.
The registry focuses its recruitment efforts on those aged 18 to 35 as younger donors are the most requested demographic by transplant centers, due to better patient outcomes. With thousands of Jewish young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 who annually participate in its trips to the Jewish state, the Birthright Gift of Life partnership is a natural fit.
“We are very proud of our longstanding, important partnership with Gift of Life,” said Birthright Israel CEO Gidi Mark. “We are
honored to have so many of our participants and alumni committed to such a noble cause. This collaboration perfectly illustrates how the Birthright Israel experience can not only change lives, but also save lives.”
Participants on Birthright’s trips to Israel are offered the opportunity to complete a cheek swab kit and health questionnaire to enter Gift of Life’s registry. When matches are found, Birthright alumni have the opportunity to donate blood stem cells or marrow to save patients’ lives.
Hailey Brooks, a 17-year-old high school senior from Montclair, New Jersey, was diagnosed at only four months old with Severe Congenital Neutropenia. Brooks spent a childhood receiving daily injections to increase her neutrophils, a type of white blood cell, to stave off infections.
Then, in April 2020, at 15 years old, a routine blood test showed that Brooks was now battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was rushed to the hospital to receive chemotherapy, and a search was immediately started to find her a matching stem cell donor.
That donor, Ethan Hornick, 23, a resident of New York City, had joined Gift of Life’s registry in 2019 while he was in Jerusalem on his Birthright Israel trip. He learned he was a match for a patient in May 2020, only weeks into the pandemic lockdown, and was initially nervous about donating during a healthcare emergency, but was committed to helping his recipient, no matter what it took.
“I just empathized so much with Hailey that even though I didn’t know her, and couldn’t imagine what she was going through, I thought of her as if she was one of my little sisters,” said Hornick. “I knew I would do anything to help if I could.”
“I’m just so grateful for having a second chance at life I cannot find the words,” said Brooks. “It is very emotional – I was reborn and I cannot thank Ethan enough. I also would like to thank Gift of Life and Birthright Israel for facilitating this.”
Hornick is a consultant at a global strategy and communications firm. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2021. Brooks is a student and camp counselor from New Jersey, and her interests include skiing, making videos and playing tennis. She is considering pursuing a degree in biology in college.
“It is an honor to have partnered with Birthright Israel for nearly 20 years on this life-saving endeavor,” said Gift of Life Marrow Registry Founder and CEO Jay Feinberg. “The mitzvah of pikuach nefesh is among the greatest of all good deeds that one person can do for another. An incredible one in eight Birthright participants has joined Gift of Life’s registry. That’s 100,000 out of 800,000 Birthright participants! Four hundred and thirty-four donors have saved the lives of patients battling blood cancer. As a transplant recipient myself, thank you to every donor who has joined our registry to make a difference in the world.”
