NOW! If you’re between the ages of 3 and 19 and want to have fun, be creative, and develop your theatre skills, we have the program for you. Choose from classes in acting, film, musical theatre, and more! At MTYP, we believe that learning to appreciate and practice the art of theatre brings out the best in young people. Drama is a lot of fun, but it also creates opportunities to build confidence and make friends. From interactive games and exercises that spark an actor’s creativity to the thrill of performing in a movie or play, classes at MTYP are full of fun challenges and opportunities to grow, both as an artist and as a person. In this booklet, you’ll find everything you need to know to select the class that’s right for you.

DRAMAVENTURES

An adventure for actors ages 3 and 4 and their parents or caregivers. Watch your child’s natural love of stories blossom along with his or her confidence and group skills. The perfect class for the drama dynamo in your family age 4 or 5. An adventure in imagination and pure fun, with stories to captivate and stimulate, costumes to try on, and lots of moving, acting, and dramatic play. PUPPET MAGIC A voyage of discovery for crafty cats ages 5 and 6.

A great way to have fun making theatre magic while developing verbal and social skills. Students will make puppets out of all kinds of materials, and create stories and voices to bring their characters to life. Fall Session/22 weeks $375 FPMA

ACTING FOR AGES 6&7

Build your acting skills through drama games, character exercises, acting out scenes and stories, and improvisation. • After 10 weeks, guests are invited to an open class. • Every 22 week course ends in a class performance. The benefits of this class include cooperation, imagination, and discovering the power of stories. Join the fun of learning and performing together with new friends who love to act, just like you! We encourage actors to grow in this course over several sessions. With new friends and a variety of age-suitable stories, scripts, and skills, it’s never the same course twice!

Advanced actor training and performance of a scripted play. If you’ve built a strong foundation in acting skills, and are ready to LEVEL UP, Showtime! is the class for you. Advance your skills in improvisation and voice training while rehearsing a scripted play to perform for an invited audience at the end of the year. prerequisite:

SPECIALTY CLASSES FOR AGES 8-12 These classes give the experienced acting student a chance to specialize in a particular format or style of theatre. Find one that suits you and take it twice or more, or try them all!

INTRO TO IMPROV Ages 10-12 Get ready to experience the thrill of improvisation: theatre that’s made up on the spot! Learn theatre sports, storytelling games, and short form improv techniques. Improv is fun to learn, a blast to watch, and it builds your acting skills. prerequisite:

ANIMATION ADVENTURES Discover the vibrant art of stop-motion animation. Create characters from modeling clay and get ready to transform your concept into a finished film. Not just for actors, this course is for anyone who likes to draw, sculpt, or build models. Class projects will be posted on MTYP’s Vimeo account so you can share them with your friends and watch them any time you want. prerequisite:

ACTOR’S WORKSHOP Do you want to develop your acting chops? Are you interested in landing parts in plays, movies, and TV shows? If you said “yes” to either of these questions, Actor’s Workshop is right for you. Build your actor’s toolkit by training in movement, voice, scenework, and audition monologues. It’s a great way to have fun bringing your skills to the next level. prerequisite:

MUSICAL THEATRE FOR AGES 7-12 Every Fall Session musical theatre class will perform on stage as part of the Musical Theatre Gala Recital on March 12, 13, and 14, 2020 on the MTYP Mainstage.

ACTING LIVE! Ages 13 & up The ultimate initiation into the world of live theatre. This action-packed course will equip you to tackle challenging roles through acting exercises, vocal training, improvisation, and scenework. INTRO TO MAKEUP Ages 13 & up In theatre, most actors are expected to do their own makeup. Would you know what to do? This hands-on workshop covers the application of basic stage makeup as well as design techniques for aging, trauma, and zombification. Taught by MTYP’s own Theresa Thomson, whose makeup artist credits include the Manitoba Opera and Creative Partner in Post Mortem Productions. Students who complete the course may keep a basic makeup kit of some of the professional product used in class. Fall Session/10 weeks $350 FMAE

IMPROV COMEDY Ages 13 & up Experience the thrill and freedom of creating theatre without a script. Learn how to quickly develop characters and take scenes to their comic potential. REEL ACTION Ages 14 & up If you’ve taken Actor & Camera and you want more, Reel Action is the course for you! Learn the tools of the trade that master film makers use to create cinematic magic. From concept, script, and storyboard, to directing, acting, and editing, you’ll create movies from concept to public screening with other creative teens just like you. TEEN PERFORMANCE COMPANIES Teens looking for a challenging pre-professional training and performance experience are invited to audition for one of Manitoba Theatre for Young People’s Teen Performance Companies:

The Young Company Sept.–March Build your acting skills in a pre-professional environment. This rehearsal-based learning process demands time, energy and commitment, but promises to give you the time of your life in return. Heather Russell-Smith will direct the Company in a play to be performed on the MTYP Mainstage.

The Musical Theatre Company Sept.–April Come together to reach for the stars. Join director Cheyenne Schroeder as she leads the company to a professional quality production on the MTYP Mainstage with an amazing group of passionate teens.

The Summer Studio April–July A “must” for anyone curious about making a living in the arts. In addition to performing, participants are involved in every aspect of production, from designing and building props and costumes, to budgeting and marketing their play to a potential audience. Join director Theresa Thomson for this fantastic opportunity to perform at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.

Spring Break Full-Day Camp is five fun-filled days spent working with theatre professionals, making new friends and building a show from the ground up. The energetic rehearsal process culminates in a performance presented on the last day of camp to an invited audience of family and friends. Classes run from 9 am–4 pm daily.
