Police Cadets to host Meet the Candidates Night on Wednesday

The area’s largest ice fishing derby gets underway this weekend, with a plethora of prizes. The 43rd annual Great Benson Fishing Derby will take place this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 21 and 22. The fishing gets underway at the crack of dawn on Saturday and continues until the 3 p.m. weigh-in time on Sunday. Attendees will have the chance to win over $10,000 in cash prizes, including a total $5,800 for the top three fish in each category. “We’ve got some big money prizes for some big fish,” event coordinator Jeff Larson said. The first place fish in each category – lake trout, other trout, walleye, northern pike, and bass – will take home $600. Second in each category earns $300 and third will receive $200. In an effort to increase citizen involvement and raise civic awareness, the Lakes Region Police Cadets will host a “Meet the Candidates” night at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25 in the band room at Fair Haven High School.
