I live in Brazil, and here we say that August is ‘the biggest month of the year’, because there are no holidays and we’re just coming back from vacation, so we’re all re-adapting to work life. And if I’m being totally honest, I was not feeling too excited for August to come. I was feeling tired and overwhelmed by life and the idea of a living this “big” month didn’t sound so great. But then I realized: more days to work also means more days to improve my work and my mindset. I would not get anywhere if I just let myself drown on my anxious feelings and thoughts, I had to do something. And so I did. And things have been going so much better now.

Letter from Valentina

I wouldn’t say that is all about your mindset and the way you think about things, but it’s a very good start. I do believe that we can do everything if we really set our minds to it and work hard enough for things – even if the thing we have to do at the moment is just to believe things are going to get better. I was not in a good path, and maybe you’re also not right now. But things do get better and we do get back to living life to the fullest and loving the things we do. Set your mind to it and watch it come to you.

I'm one of those photographers who like to have everything planned. I like to work calmly. That's why I always plan ev erything ahead and warn the other that I work very slow and steady. And there is nothing wrong about it, it's important to know your flow and not try to hide it. And despite the fact that I like to prepare moodboards to know the direction we are taking, on the photoshoot I like to improvise and try to make most of each location. Though I don't like spontaneous pho toshoots - I like to know what I'm undertaking. And for inspiration I look everywhere. Inspiration can be found at a particular spot, in music on in a passerby. It's very important to write down your inspirations, your ideas, so you can get back to them. So they can develop with us. Besides that, I watch a lot of movies, look for inspirations in the Vouge and different photo al bums. And I follow a lot of photographers much better than me. You bring a very high production value to your work. What is your retouching/production philosophy? How important is Photoshop in your final images? I prefer to have everything flawlessly set up during the photoshoot to minimize the time spent on the post-production. Nonetheless I still value current technology and the possibilites to perfect the image.

What is one last impression you want to leave in your photographs?

Look at everything from a new perspective to find inspiration to work and still love it. How long does a shoot day typically last and what is the preparation like? It depends on a photoshoot. The shortest are portraits and and model tests - togeth er with preparations and gossip they take 4 hours, tops. One of my jobs there is to sync the whole team and then we can act. Those photoshoots empower me, be cause they are so minimalistic that each time you have to give it more, so you won't

stay behind. On the other hand, editorials are the longest. The photoshoot itself takes 1-2 days, and the preparations take a lot more, not only for me, but for the other collaborators also. At first you have to get your dream team together and the date, with the latter being quite difficult trying to make it work for a few talented artists at the same time. We discuss which direction to take, if the photoshoot will be out- or indoors, we create a mooodboard and then everyone is doing their part: stylist prepares the stylizations, while I am looking for a spot that fits into the moodboard and makeup artist matches the makeups. And then we finally meet and let the magic happen.

The most important lesson for me so far is that sometimes you have to rest, to let go, take some time off and few steps back.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH

I think my love of photography started from adoration of light. As a child, I liked to run around with a mirror, reflecting sunlight straight into eyes of others. Then, for my first school trip I got an old, analog Practica camera and I made a lot of portraits then. And so I knew - looking at the world through this tiny window will stay with me forever.

Hi, Im Bubusława and I'm from the beautiful city of Katowice in Poland. I always knew that I want to do photography, but the journey from hobby to a full-time job was quite long.

To never give up, practice in front of the mir ror, ask every photographer they collaborate with for tips and suggestions. And love it. What are the most important lessons you have learned about photography so far?

I'd like my photographies to make people stop for a moment, look at them like look ing at the mirror, muse a bit and love them or hate them. You've clearly worked with a wide range of models, what tips can you recommend to models looking to expand their portfolio?

Bubusława, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs?

Are you the sort of photographer who plans for every mi nuscule detail or are you more spontaneous with your cre ations? Where do you find the majority of your inspiration? Kaito Loken Barfot

FRENCH FASHION AND BEAUTY MAGAZINE

I would say it was when I thought yo myself "I really am a truly good photographer". I know I make beau tiful photos, I am able to color out side the lines and still give it my best. And I think that's the essence of this job: to love it all the time.

In your opinion, what is the differ ence between fashion and beauty photography? What's your favor ite? I like to engage in any type of pho tography, although I'm aware that some of them are not for me. If I were to pick one, with all my hearth I love fashion photography. It talks about... fashion, but everything can hide under this obviousness: fashion for clothing, fashion for hairstyles, for makeup, poses, plac es... But yes, its main purpose is to show the attire and its brand's vibe, while beauty photography allows you to go a little bit crazy, work with the makeup and the mood. But on some levels both types comple ment each other, and sometimes are completely different. That's the beauty of photography as it allows you, the photographer, to shape and tell a story the way you want.

The amount of movies and TV series I absorb in my free time is staggering. I also like to go for long walks in both nature, where I can enjoy calm and quiet, green ry space, and in the city, where I can admire the architecture, look for interesting events and try new, regional dishes. But my city I love the most, where postmodernism, prewar architecture and brutalism meet. Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? I hope to meet you on Instagram where you can find me on @bubuslawagorny. See you there!

Outside of photography, what else blows your mind?

In your own eyes, what was the moment that your career took off?

To begin, where are you based? How long has photography been a hobby and career of yours?

Definitely a conversation, it is key to have good che mistry. Talking about what you want to do, throw a few examples, inspire the model to engage in the project. This definitely helps to achieve the inten ded results, then everyone knows what their role is in the photo session.

Self-confidence is a trait that I like and respect a lot.

What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio?

A person's eyes and their gaze is important to me.

Generally, I focus on their eyes.

Photography is still my hobby and I am one of those lucky ones where passion became my job. I started taking photos somewhere around 2010 and after Pho tography school, I started to think about it seriously.

It is important to engage in a lot of photo sessions.

I live in a beautiful seaside city called Gdynia, Poland.

My biggest challenge was, and in fact still is, not to fall into a certain framework set by commercial busi ness influences or someone else’s visions. I always try to follow my own path and if I have to compromi se I try to smuggle a part of me into a given project.

In your own experience, what are the biggest cha llenges for an independent photographer?

What are you usually looking for in a fashion mo del? What is an "aha" factor for you?

Look for yourself and ignore the adversities, learn from the best, watch and steal to use what you feel will suites you as well. As Henri Cartier-Bresson once said about photography, "Your first ten thou Exclusive Interview with

From your experience, what is the key to getting the best out of a model?

I also pay attention to how a person behaves when she/he is not in the center of attention. What their natural face expressions are, and how their body be haves. This can be later used in a session, e.g. biting your lip when deep in a thoughts or curling your hair with your finger when engaging in conversation.

Through developing my passion, I have reached the place where I am now, still feeling hungry to create.

What motivated you to get started?

In your opinion, what makes the good picture stand out from the average? How do you choose which images you provide to your clients?

It all depends on individual taste, and individual taste can not be discussed… haha, just a joke. But seriously. I know that there are compositions, light settings, sharpness, color palette etc…

sand photos will be the worst." This is how it often is, and linking it to modelling, the main point is not to give up.

In your opinion, how beauty is perceived at the present age? What does beauty mean to you personally and what really makes a woman beautiful?

Once my lecturer told me: "It is best to look for a wife who will not scare you in the morning right af ter you wake up.” Of course it's a joke, but there is something to it ... We admire the exquisite level of detail in all your works. Does your creative process start from a certain image in your mind, or do you seek inspi ration as you progress?

However, of course I get inspired by other works, I have my favourite photographers and directors. It is great to get influenced from more experienced and accomplished colleagues, learn something new, broaden your horizons.

All my creative work starts with an idea that I ca rry in my head for some time. After it gains more shape, what I like to do is to talk about it with my wife. She supports me a lot. I also discuss and bra in storm with my friend and stylist colleague, Maria, who I work with often.

Personally, I think that the beauty of a woman is best seen when it is natural, without makeup or additional ”effects” (drastic plastic surgery). Of course, you also need to be able to highlight the beauty, however na tural beauty is something that everyone has. Unfor tunately, not every one want to show or highlight the natural features, or they do not believe is it worth it?

It's good to know it all, I mean the basics, but for me personally, photography doesn't have to be perfect to be fascinated, you have to feel it. So when I feel that this is the right picture, I know I have to show it or choose it.

There will always be someone who pays attention only to the technical aspect. Such people ask "how", while others who are curious about the world ask "why." Personally, I prefer inspiration to information.

What are the technical challenges of this kind of photo graphy and how did you overcome them?

Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? I think that the internet works best nowadays in the form of social media FB, Instagram, there I post up-todate projects and what I do at the moment, I invite you to IG: oskarszramka and FB: facebook. com/oskarszramka.photography I also invite you to visit my website available in the form of oskarszramka.com business card.

Everyone is looking for their own way to overcome this type of challenge, for me the complement to what I mentioned earlier is another quote from Henri Cartier-Bresson: "You have to put the ca mera between the skin and the shirt of the person you are photo graphing." I encourage you to your own reflection and interpretation.

What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future? It just so happened, that I started my adventure with pho tography in the music industry for promotional sessions, album covers, magazine covers, etc. I took pictures of more or less famous artists from around the world, it tur ns out that this is another stepping stone towards fashion photography. To have the continuous flow of ideas, I try to be open and soak up the feel of the surrounding space. This can factor in for the more interesting photo sessions. It is also significant to stay open to other people, look for common business connections and mutual acquaintan ces. Artists seek and notice other talented, ambitious ar tists, inviting them to cooperate. It was the same in my case, I was lucky enough to meet wonderful people on my path, to whom I owe a lot. My dream, apart from a happy family, is to get to know more exceptional and inspiring people, travel the world looking for inspiration, and be able to develop my pas sion further.

What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why? I am looking for creative and interesting people to join the team. People who are involved in the process, love their job and are interested in an excellent result. And not always professionals.

Exclusive Interview with shot starts with an idea. Correctly selected image, correctly selec ted model and a team of makeup artists and stylists. As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to mastering it? It is hard to say. This is one of the most diverse areas of photo graphy. The combination of clothes, poses, light and color are very important here. Need to follow the fashion industry, new trends.

Aleksandr, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs? I have been interested in Photography since my childhood, but, unfortunately, the full-time work took almost all my free time. I decided to change my life. I was able to do photography professionally, at the mo ment my experience is five years. From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional fashion photography? Fashion photography has some difficulties. Fashion is dynamic and variable. Fashion is art. I try to put some thing more into photography, I try to draw the attention to the details, to the beauty that is here and now. A great

Fashion & Beauty | August 2022

These two things, along with many others, are now responsible for making the micro -trends popular. But what is a micro-trend, exactly? Let’s start here so we can under stand the problems that come with them: A microtrend is a tendency in the direction of some new phenomenon that is fairly perva sive within a given sphere of influence and lasts for a few years, or even for a few mon ths now – sounds familiar, right? How many of the fashion trends from six months ago are still trending? Not a lot, and that’s the issue. In general, when we call something a ‘trend’, we are talking about a general direction in which something is developing or changing, and when we apply that to the fashion world and industry, this describes the popularity of a specific type of style or piece of clothing. So, a micro-trend is a trend that rises really quickly in popularity and then falls even fa ster. The fashion cycle of a micro-trend can last from 3 to 5 years if we are lucky, whi le macro-trends typically last from 5 to 10 years. Macro-trends are the styles we tend to associate with the different decades, for instance, shoulder pads for the eighties, drop-waist dresses in the twenties, bell-bot tom jeans in the seventies, and the office-ca sual in the 2010s. The faster the fashion cycle is, the greater amount of waste is produced in that given time. The explanation is really simple: consu mers will likely buy more and more pieces to 44

As a society, especially living in the time of globalization, we are always eager to indulge in a trend — leather blazers and jackets, ple ated and mini-skirts and even peplum and cut-out dresses have been at least on our wishlists, if not already on our closets. And I don’t know about you, but now that I’m gro wing older and going further into my twen ties, I think it’s about time for me to identify, develop, and invest in my personal style as much as possible – a great time to remind you that it’s never too late to do the same, or to even change the one you have now. But my personal decision wasn’t made en tirely by thinking about what I hope is ma turity rather than prevention, but also in a new-found consciousness of how much wa ste is produced by the fashion industry and its consumers – myself included, of course. For example, did you know that in 2019 alo ne, more than 200 million pounds of waste were created by single-use outfits? Or that the textile industry is the second largest pol luter in the world? The industry’s waste issue is alarming, and despite various brands and manufacturers efforts to operate more sustainably in the last few years, this is a big problem that seems to persist. And the fact is that this is perpetuated by micro-trends and the shor tening of fashion cycles, which can be tied to the rise of short video sharing platforms – like TikTok and Instagram reels – and in fluencer culture.

Micro-Trends:

WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW ARE THEY IMPACTING FASHION?

• Whenever possible, try to shop in consign ment stores and apps. Giving lightly worn pie ces a second life is an honor and a privilege, and we can find many great things when we give second-hand clothes a try.

One may still ask how exactly did the micro -trends become mainstream, and the answer is not a difficult one. Let's dig deeper into it. Before the rise of Tik Tok, Instagram reels, and influencer culture, we used to look up to mo dels, movies, celebrities, and fashion magazi nes to set the trends that would be followed carefully and diligently by some people aro und the world. This group of people, the ones who were admired and seemed like objects of desire, was much smaller, and our access to them was even more curated, which ultimately limited the public’s exposure to potential new trends, and that kept fashion cycles slower. In the past 15 years or so, however, the rise of YouTubers, bloggers, and more recently, In stagram and Tik Tok creators and influencers, have given almost anyone the ability to have a big influence on the masses. Now, there are hundreds of thousands of potential trendset ters who can quickly and easily reach millions of people through social media – all they have to do is make a post, and if it becomes viral, a new micro-trend starts.

Shops and apps are wonderful ways to sell what you don’t want anymore, but clothing do nation centers are even better.

• Finally, put more effort into your closet and personal style by not shopping impulsively and asking yourself: will I still be wearing this in 5 or even 10 years? Will it be conducive to the person I am and the one I want to be? The best thing about fashion is that it can reflect who we are or want to be, and if we think about it, I don’t think we want to be just-like-everybody Even-else.

though we are not going to be perfect in the ways we consume fashion or media, we have to always try to improve ourselves, and then we’ll get where we want to be – both as individuals and as a society.

Another thing is that since these influencers are in constant competition with others in the same space, each one of them is racing to popularize the next big trend. This ultimately leads to many, varying posts and videos that essentially tell you to go out and buy the-next -big-thing-in-fashion or your closet will be out dated. That’s really all it takes for us to have consumers buying more clothes at accelera ted rates. This is exactly what expedites fa shion cycles and creates an overabundance of micro-trends, which causes colossal amounts of waste when consumers throw away their unwanted apparel to make room in their clo sets for the newest fashions of the week. Now that we understand what are micro -trends and how they become popular, we can make the really important question: what can we do about it? Consumer waste is a big one, but it’s still only a fraction of the fashion indu stry’s larger issues – but at least this is easier to solve on individual levels. Here are a few of the methods we can practice to shop and cyc le more ethically and mindfully:

To draw in viewers and followers and keep their numbers high, these creators cleverly oversaturate people’s feeds with new and up -and-coming trends from fast-fashion brands that can mass produce quickly and cheaply.

• Try to not throw away clothes whenever you can, even though this may be the easy way to make space in your closet. Instead of thro wing them away, opt to donate or sell them –you can even make a little money on the way.

Valentina RoqueArticle by keep up with the higher volume of overlapping trends and wear them for a shorter amount of time as the pieces go quickly in and out of style. And, unfortunately for us as both consu mers and people living on this planet, this mo vement is increasing. The volume of clothing Americans throw away each year has doubled from 7 million to 14 million tons in under 20 years. In under 15 years, clothing production doubled as well, with the average consumer buying 60 percent more clothing pieces. And while all the producing and wasting is going up, each piece is now kept half as long.

In my camera bag I always have my favorite lens Sigma Art 35 mm.

In your opinion, what is the difference between fashion and beauty photography? What's your favorite? Fashion is fire and beauty is essence. I love both and it is hard to tell which one is my favorite.

When did your passion for photography start and what were the main milestones that turned you into the artist you currently are? I started my journey with photography after the birth of my children Zachary and Oliwia and year after year I got more involved in photography. At first I was into children photo graphy, then fine art and half year ago I started shooting beauty and fashion. You have a very unique style. How would you describe your photography to someone who has never seen it? I tend to switch between dramatic and close to nature, every thing depends on location, clothing and intent of the picture.

How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? What motivates me most is to see my photos in magazines and to receive positive feedbacks from my followers. You bring a very high production value to your work. What is your retouching/production philosophy? How important is Photoshop in your final images?

The Photoshop is a very useful tool if you use it wisely. The thing is to retouch the way so no one says that it is retouched. Are you the sort of photographer who plans for every minuscule detail or are you more spontaneous with your creations? Where do you find the majority of your inspiration? I plan photoshoots ahead but when it comes to it I get more spontaneous. My inspiration comes from temporary photographers as Lara Jade and Lindsay Adler.

What do you love the most about your job? Photography is like never ending love affair. There are ups and downs but if you are really drown to photography and you don’t compare to other photographers you can create some thing special. Besides photography creates opportunity to meet other creatives who has the passion and the same goals.

What is typically in your camera bag and what is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?

What's the best part of being a photographer?

As for retouching, make sure that you take your time. Even with all the new tools available, there is no easy way to reach the goal you expect except taking the time and really work on it. What fascinates and motivates you most about being a photographer?

Instead of spending hours on Photoshop, spend the time to actually work on the image on set to have the right image on which you can work on.

When I take 50 images of the same model with the same pose and lighting, there is always one image that stands out. And that is my motivation. Hoping to be able to capture the best version of the artistic creating our team conceived together. What type of project is dearest to your heart? Why? I do my own retouching and I am against heavy post-production process. Of course, we can re move few skin troubles here and there and even improve slightly the makeup. I also do slight co lour grading from RAW files to give more profes sional look to my images. That have been said, I am lucky to be able to work mostly with highly competent professionals and the areas where I need to intervene in post production is usually very limited. I do not wish to alter drastically the image as I believe that my team worked as a unit to create something in common. And if I modify them drastically during retouching process, it is like hijacking the project from them. Do you have any practical advice to give the photographers who are trying to master retou ching for their own photography?

To begin, can you please give us a little intro as to what motivated you to become a photographer?

I always had a passion for beautiful images. Being able to capture a microsecond of time is so magical to me, even to day when videos are replacing more and more photographs for the mass consumption. I became a professional fashion and cosmetic photographer progressively and naturally as my wife is an established makeup artist in Paris, working for some of the major French brands. In the beginning, as a ho bbyst landscape photographer, I was simply lending a hand for a session or two for my wife. And I discovered the joy of creating a body of work where a team can put together and control most of the elements, with mesmerisingly beautiful models. The fact that I do most of my work in studio also gave me an artistic empowerment compared to landscape where I was under total mercy of Mother Nature. Haemaru, how would you describe your photography style? I won’t call it a style per se but I love minimalist studio images. I pursue images where my models are empowered and at the center of my images. I rarely use heavy probs or decorations. As I am very keen on in cosmetics portraits, I value the facial expression and the emotions reflected in the eyes. What do you hope people take away from viewing your images? Of course, as a fashion photographer, I hope the viewers find my images beautiful and original. I work to ensure that the garments and the makeup that my models are wearing to be pleasing and intriguing. But the ultimate goal behind it would be to really carry a message or emotion. Unlike journalistic or artistic photographes, the latitude of artistic freedom is narrower. But the challenge for sublimating an underlying message within a fashion photography genre has always intrigued the best of photographers and I hope to reach that level of excellence in future. Haemaru, how would you define "beauty"? What does it mean to you? Beauty for me is original and captivating. The rarity is what makes something “beautiful” especially from the photographic stand-point. A dump ground is beautiful just like an amazing natural landscape. And for my personal work, I look for ele ments that make my subjects rare and original.

What is your retouching philosophy? And what do you think it delivers in the final image?

We are currently working on an editorial series with more affirmed voice on so cial and environmental issues. We just finished the series on upcycling. Now we wish to do a series advocating against the environmental issues around fast fashion Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? culture since our marriage. What is typically in your camera bag and what is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?

I am a die-hard Fuji shooter. When I work in studio, my main camera setup is Fuji GFX100S with Fuji GF 110mm F2. As for outdoors, I just acquired Fuji X-H2S for more nimble and quick shootings and I usually use Fuji 56mm F1.2 or 90mm F2. As a studio photographer, my favorite accessory are my foldable poly boards I made myself. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?

INTERVIEW

How would you describe your work to someone who has never seen it? Is there any message you would like your photos to convey?

See a lot culture!, read books, watch movies, travel... How hard has it been establishing yourself in the industry and what are some of the largest things you've faced? SO HARD! , Sorry I don’t want to disappoint anyone, and obviously it depends to your country, but I can say in latin america is very hard, there are really few photographers who manage to establish themselves living just like fashion photographers in Mexico, so metimes the magazines just are looking for foreign photographers, and don’t give opportunity or “take the risk” working with other local photographers. I used to work in some companies of fast fashion and I have to say is the worst , the work environment is horrible , salary is not enough and a lot of hours to work, they don’t value your work.

What is the best piece of advice you've ever gotten and do you follow it? Many people gave me advices, but I think in general to know about “ this career is about endurance more than other thing”. And yes, I still follow it, look at me here yet haha. WITH

Uff, today I’m freelance (maybe just for a while) but I don’t take photographs just about fashion, I do couples photography, product, and soon weddings, and I stud ying a certified about marketing, very important in this age (for any profession), I’m not sure If I’m going to continue living in Mexico. Sometimes I don’t feel com fortable talking about the future haha It makes me feel anxiety, but I really want to continue doing photos, and expand my business. What do you love the most about your profession? I really love working with a creative and professional team, I really enjoy see all these great designers, the stylists, models and mua’s great works. Sometimes I say I remember when I used to play with my barbies girls, now I’m truly working with real people haha.

Hi, well I always was interested in the art, I used to go to the museum or expositions in my country when I was a child and a teenager, in despite of my friends or class mates got bored going, for me always was awesome, I studied music I loved playing the guitar and sing, and wrote my owns songs, finally when I had to take the de cision about what career I was going to study, I decided Visual Arts, because in that time my passion changed for to take photographs, and I remember since I was a child I really loved take pictures with my phone, and edit them with “be funky” haha, progressively fashion came into my life, I really felt fascinated with Robert Mapple thorphe’s work and Annie Leibovitz too, so I started ta king many portraits to my beautiful friends (most of the them women) , and little by little I started with stranger people and finally with models. What does life look like for you now and where do you see yourself in the future?

How do you keep yourself productive and retain your creative edge?

Sweet and glamorous, I live in a city with high levels of violence, so in TV, or newspaper even in the reality you can see many violence images, blood, bodies, people crying, etc.. So I really believe that the kind of images we see affect directly to the brain, and your mood, that’s de reason which I want to counter that.

Please briefly tell us about your background.

If you couldn't be a photographer, what would be your other career choice?

My official Page : jude-rojas.webnode.mx and jrweddings6.webnode.mx

I like topics about business , investment and mar keting. I’m studying marketing now. In addition to being sharp and well lit, your pho tos are beautifully edited. What is your retouching/production philosophy?

Thank you so much!! , well I know many photo graphers hates retouching photos “old school” I think haha, I’m just kidding, I think in general, learn the bases about photography and retouching, and then do wherever you want, enjoy the path, but do the things good, that’s so important, take you profession serious if you wanna be great, practi ce so hard, sometimes you are gonna find clients that give you specific instructions, and if you don’t know the bases you won't make it. What's the most important thing you want your potential clients to know about you? Values such as responsibility and hard work, you will always find in myself. Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? Sure, you can see my work here: IG: @jude.rojas @jude_weddings_photography

Bokalo Olesya (creative producer):

If you couldn't be a photographer, what would be your other career choice? Now I can’t imagine this situation, this is my way of life, and no matter what profession I choose, at the result I would still be a photographer. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future? Bokalo Olesya (creative producer): In the near future we are planning a joint project on a series of portraits in the style of Peter Lindbergh, and then something eccentric awaits again) Where can we see more of your works and get connected with@lomashootyou?

What are the most important lessons you have lear ned about fashion photography so far? For me, the most important rule is not to compare yourself with other photographers. Everyone has their own way, and comparison often takes you a few steps back. This applies not only to fashion photography, but also to everything else. What would you say is your style of photography?

Bokalo Olesya (creative producer):

The most difficult - not to be a momentary pro ject. We prefer to do more than a fashion shoot. In instagram the project has a very short life, like fast-food. So we are inspired by art, to do some thing interesting and to have an opportunity to be published in magazines, of course. Are there any other photographers you lookup? Who?

In addition to being sharp and well lit, your pho tos are beautifully edited. What is your retou ching/production philosophy? Minimum retouching, because I prefer natural fa ces, and I try to avoid porcelain faces like dolls. That’s why I like to work with men) they don’t pay attention to retouching, as a result they turn out as natural as possible.

Nicholas Fols, Luis Monteiro, George Mayer, Txe ma Yeste … and, of course, Steven Meisel, Paolo Roversi, Helmut Newton, Rodney Smith, Bruce Weber, Peter Lindbergh

To begin, can you please give us a little intro as to what motivated you to become a photographer?

I love emotional portraits and I try to show not only the look prepared by stylists and make-up artists in every shoot, but also to reveal the person in the shoot. How long does it take to create one of these wonder ful works?

INTERVIEW WITH 111Fashion & Beauty | August 2022

From idea to result, it took more than a month. Coordi nation of the whole team. Preparation of clothes that were created by decorators. And processing time. But when there is a clear idea and a charged team, everything happens in one breath. (For example, we filmed the last work in two days) How do you manage to make your models feel comfortable in front of the camera? Every shoot I start with a small talk with a model about some thing personal, about herself/himself, at this moment i keep taking pictures, to catch real emotions and reveal the model. And important point, I always turn on the music that the mo del likes to make her/him more comfortable and free.

From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional fashion photography?

When I was a child, my father bought lots of art books and I liked to leaf through them, also my father print his photos in the bathroom, I watched and helped him. Photography has always been his hobby. Sometimes, I played with camera and took my own pictures. When I grown up, I got another profession, but when my mo ther died, and I undestood that life is too short to do things you don’t like. So I started my photo journey :)

Could you tell us a bit about yourself and how did you get into the photography world?

Since I was a teenager, I worked hard and tried to be in dependent. While studying at the institute(specialty engi neer) I found a part-time job in a photography company. I worked as a manager and placed orders for shooting. Our designer used to miss work, and I had to learn how to edit photos myself. When I got enough experience, I worked as a rucompanytimeproducer.anddesigner,photographyadvertisingPRmanager,ForalongIworkedintheBebakids.(abrandofchil dren's clothing from Italy and Russia). It was there when I first found myself on a studio shoot as a project organizer. I was absolutely ex cited by the studio lights, flashes and creative atmosphe re. After that, I found courses in studio shooting, completed training and began shooting in the stu dio. You have a very unique style. How would you describe your photography to someone who has never seen it? My style is my vi sion of the frame. It's hard for me to describe what it is like. I just shoot, and I get a big pleasure from it. In your experience, what are the most difficult aspects of professional photography? The most difficult thing, in my opinion, is to competent ly work out the idea of shooting and find a team. Exact stylist/makeup artist and exact model.

What's going through your mind when you are on set behind the camera?

I think a lot before I find myself behind the camera, what kind of frame should be, what emotion I want to see. At the very moment of shooting I just know how I want to shoot it and do my job. How do you use social media in conjunction with your business? What role does it play in your job?

EXCLUSIVE

To be honest, I don't spend much time in social ne tworks. Yes, I post sometimes, but it usually depends on my mood. If it is ok, there will be dozens of sto ries a day, if it is not .... So I won't make myself and post anything. At the moment, I am working clo sely with a brand of Russian cos metics, I shoot a lot for them. Family, children, husband, I have very little time. It is much more important for me to pay attention to them, and not to social networks. What advice would you give to someone looking at a career in photography? Shoot more creativity, exactly what you like. And listen to yourself. INTERVIEW WITH

What does it take to achieve a unity of the artistic and the commercial aspect of fashion photography?

The desire to work hard. Only after numerous shoo tings, you have a sense of what is good and what is bad. Tkacheva, tell us a secret, what is the key to getting the best out of someone for fashion and beauty shots?

I have no secret. The fashion sphere is my favorite, that is probably why I'm good at it) Do you look to other photographers for inspiration, or does your inspiration come from other sources? Everything is banal, my inspiration is art. Everything that is in this word: paintings, books, music, people, photography. Books. Moses Nappelbaum "From Craft to Art", Johan nes Itten "The Art of Color", Susan Sontag "About Pho tography" What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?

I have shot many media people from Russia, I have had more than 10 publications in various magazines, now I work with a cosmetics company, BUT....I think the bright moments are still ahead)

Katerina, can you tell us more about yourself and how you've got involved in the photography business? Since childhood I have been engaged in drawing. I have always been involved in the creative process. Later, my hobby turned into a photographer's pro fession. How did you mode specifically towards fashion and beauty photography? What does beauty mean to you? Fasion shooting for me is primarily about art. The art of experimenting. I like being in this process. Katerina, how would you describe your photo graphic vision? What kind of look do you try and create in your photos? I shoot brightly and with emotions. What inspires you and what gives you ideas to create your beautiful images? Can your ideas change depending on the model you are working with? I am inspired by movies, paintings, fashion mag Yes,azines.ithappened once. We were going to shoot a gentle image in the field. But the model and the team had a rebellious mood. As a result, we went to constructivist architecture and filmed in rough clothes. Could you take us through the typical planning process for your images? First an idea arises, and then new details are plant ed on it like beads: clothes, location, makeup, etc. Would you have any tips for non-models on how to look good in front of the camera? You need to breathe and relax. Your projects are a collaborative process. Tell us what is like to always be working with new stylists, models, and makeup artists. Fortunately, I am always lucky with the team. We un derstand each other perfectly.

A good picture is distinguished by an interesting com positional technique. Sometimes you don't understand why the picture catches, and then you find in its com position the principle of the golden section and every thing falls into place. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future?

I really love the latest Spring melody project. Because it was created by ourselves from beginning to end. In your opinion, what makes the good picture stand out from the average? How do you choose which images you provide to your clients?

It has. When I was getting started, I would go out and shoot anything, just to see what I could come up with. Much of it was me learning about what I liked. But it was also me just being young and naive.

For portraits, I believe the end-result can’t be too manufactured. There must be some autonomy with the model. If it looks con trived, it won’t be striking. If I’m able to easily tell the story when I press the shutter, I did it. How long does it take to create one of these wonderful works? It depends on several factors. I have some shoots that are months, or even years in the making. The shoot featured in this publication was conceptualized and executed in about four hours. I’ve worked with Tatum several times, and we have amaz ing rapport. She’s a creative herself and her input on the artistic side of things is just as important as my thoughts.

Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? My website is kevindealphotography.com. My Instagram is @kevindealphoto and my You Tube Channel, which I use to educate up and coming photographers is Kevin Deal Photog raphy.VIGBO: lisyeasy.gallery.photo

I don’t take things too seriously. I’m easy to work with. When it’s time to work, it’s time to work. I like to use swear words. I’m unapologetic about that. People who swear are honest. I’m honest.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background. Creativity has always been a part of me. I have an extensive background in music production, design and many other art forms. When I’m not creating, I’m incomplete, so I always find myself in the middle of an artistic project. I used to tour around and produce electronic music records. But the touring lifestyle was brutal, and I wanted to have better control over my work and life balance. Photography does that for me. Being a creative producer is how I want leave my mark on the world. Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer?

Has your vision and style evolved or changed over time?

Fashion portraits and editorials specifically appeal to me be cause it’s exciting to see a client’s reaction when they look like a million dollars in a magazine. How would you describe yourself to people that don't know you?

As I’ve evolved, I now take a step back and ask myself “Why am I doing this and what am I trying to accomplish?” It’s about shooting with intention.

I like to find models who are chameleons. I have a tight rotation of models that I use because I’m on this journey. When I start with someone new, often, it’s like we have to introduce ourselves to one another as artists. That takes time. If I’ve worked with someone before, there’s no need for introductions. We’ve already reached mile stones on this path together. We understand each other and we can hit the ground running. Trying a new idea is easier because the effort I need to put into understanding them can in stead be used to expand what I can achieve with them. This isn’t some secret formula or anything. It’s the very old practice of finding a muse. Find someone you click with and go on an artistic journey as partners. Together, you can expand your vision of art.

I consider myself to be fortunate. My dream of getting into photography was derailed a bit with some financial hardships, but I eventually got back on course. I’ve enjoyed great health and there are people in the world who face much greater hardships than I’ve experienced. What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future? I would say mentoring new photographers. Be ing at a point where I can share what I know is a reward to me. My hopes and dreams for the future are to help as many up-and-coming pho tographers be successful as possible. For me, I’d like to keep moving up the ladder and take on more and more rewarding projects.

I enjoyed the process of being able to manipulate what I saw. I still do. Using the camera and lens as a tool to take ordinary things and try to make them extraordinary. The process of shoot ing and developing my own film was always fascinating. Being able to have so much control over the outcome was attractive.

What are the key ingredients for a striking image?

The real beauty of my work is that I surround myself with people who are really close in spir it. Whether it's my clients or my colleagues. We look in the same direction, have similar in terests and it gives an incredible sense of spir ituality. I have many projects that I am proud of. But probably the most rewarding I think is the work I do with the social center and the girls who have been disabled for one reason or another. It's more than just a project. When you see how the eyes of each of them light up, you get to know them, listen to their stories, and then - tears of joy and a big hug. It's very moving. And it's really priceless.

What's the project you are most proud of?

Julia, how did your career begin in the world of beauty?

Working with people is always a big responsi bility. You understand that for many people it's real magic. They close their eyes, and then they open them and see their new selves. And this result must be a source of encouragement.

Over the years I have faced different people

Julia, what is the most exciting or challenging opportunity you had as a freelance artist?

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH

Almost 11 years ago I started my journey as a makeup artist. Since childhood I was fond of drawing, graduated from art school and tried to develop in this direction. In 2011 I graduat ed from my first makeup course. At first it was just a hobby, but after a year, I firmly decided to move in this direction professionally. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists? I would call my makeup an anatomical make up. I always rely on the appearance of each model, rather than working in the same way with everyone. My favorite phrase that I often repeat to my students is: "makeup is math, physics and anatomy! When you understand what you're doing and why you're doing it you get results that are just masterpieces!

Looking back, how has make-up artistry changed or influenced you as a person?

Perseverance . After all, not everything works at the first try. Fantasy . It is important to be able to look at the world from slightly different angles. Talent and hard work is a must. Because talent is only the basis, which must be strengthened and built upon. Obser vation . It is important to be able to notice even the smallest details that other people would not even pay attention to. The ability to perceive criticism and distinguish it from the simple negative (it should not be taken to heart). And if it is constructive criticism from professionals, it is a real lesson that will only help you to grow and achieve new heights. Why is shooting for cameras and lights, different than everyday makeup? Makeup, which is carried out for a photo or vid eo-shooting has its own specifics and it must be taken into account. The fact is that one of the im portant moments is to create the perfect matte tone, which will not emphasize the relief of the skin, as well as dense textures. It is very important that all the colors remain saturated. Consistency of the image . After all a photo shoot is always an idea and its realization. All the details must be taken into account: the place, clothes, light, accessories, hair and make up. And then we will get the perfect result.

What do you think are some of the keys to being a successful makeup artist?

Why is having an MUA essential to a pho tographer? I believe that the coordinated work of the team will always bring the best result. When the makeup artist works well with the mod el and carefully prepares the image, it makes the work of the photographer and retoucher much easier. And also it is a huge plus - you can discuss and think through the image in detail. After all, each specialist knows subtle ties about his work that the other does not know. And it also affects the successful result of working together.

What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women?

The first advice from me, as a makeup artist: make sure you take regular and competent care of your skin. Your sleep schedule, your diet, the right cosmetic treatment - all these things are really important. Second advice, just as a normal girl - smile! As often as pos sible and sincerely! Love yourself, tell yourself every day that you are perfect! Ladies, you are really beautiful! What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years?

148 Fashion & Beauty | August 2022

and different situations, and I can really say that it has really strengthened my spirit. I know when to be supportive, when to reassure, when to be silent or to encourage conversation. People come and share a piece of their lives with you and trust you. It seems to me that a visit to a make-up artist is like a visit to a psychologist. It is real therapy! How do you keep up with all the new trends and styles? Where do you pull your inspiration from to help you with your work? It seems to me that every creative person has his own source of energy and inspiration. I love watch ing movies. Especially old ones. I enjoy looking at details, outfits, and paying attention to the arrange ments. Also books. Literature is my life. I can read books sleeplessly. It really stimulates the imagina tion, when you imagine this or that picture. Trav elling. The feeling when you look around with ex citement, learn new places, people's culture, their customs and traditions, admire the architecture - in describable. And it can not help but inspire.

I would like to go to the next level: perhaps ex pand my staff, also find a few more teachers who will share my vision and to whom I can entrust this task. Collaboration and teamwork in other cities and countries. I already had this experience and I liked it very much. Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? You can follow and contact my instagram@Viteb4anka. I would be sincerely happy to have any communication
