We’ll find the motivation to follow our dreams, to reach our goals and maybe even to start something that may seems like a wild idea – those are actually the best ones.
I believe we all have high expectations for this year. And that’s a good thing. The world has been through a lot and so did we, so we deserve to feel a little hope and to be positive. That’s what the New Years are for, right? Even though we cannot control what is going to happen with us and our lives, we can train our minds to see the good in the situations we’ll be facing in the next months. To start the year with the right mindset is the best way to keep ourserlves to gether – even if we might go through some not-so-ideal things – and that’s all I wish for me, for you and for us in 2022.
It’s going to be a great year because we’re going to make it a great FashionValentinayear.RoqueJournalist

In your opinion, what is the difference between fashion and beauty photography? What's your favorite? Fashion photography is something bright and emo tional. Beauty photography is more about the beau ty of a portrait. My favorite dish is fried potatoes I like to review the works of old fashion magazines and the works of my favorite photographers. How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? At the shooting stage, it is important that the loca tion, outfit and model are in harmony and the plot has been thought out in advance. And in post-pro duction with Photoshop tools, I only bring the final picture to the full ideal. You bring a very high production value to your work. What is your retouching/production philosophy? How important is Photoshop in your final images? Details are very important to me, because they greatly affect the final perception of the picture. I draw most of my inspiration from the works of famous photographers such as Helmut Newton or Thierry Mugler, who was the designer and photo grapher of many of his creations. Are you the sort of photographer who plans for every minuscule detail or are you more sponta neous with your creations? Where do you find the majority of your inspiration? My team has a wonderful makeup artist who perfect ly feels all my wishes and wishes of the client, as well as my wonderful assistant who helps on the set.
What is typically in your camera bag and what is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
The main impetus for me to start shooting on my own, as a photographer, was that I wanted to show my outfits brightly, beautifully and aesthetically. You have a very unique style. How would you des cribe your photography to someone who has never seen it? My photo is artistically staged. I like to think throu gh every detail in the frame. Therefore, it is very important for me that everything in the frame is in perfect harmony.
There are always a lot of spare flash cards in my camera bag, because sometimes shooting lasts for 8-9 hours without stopping. My favorite accessories on the set are jewelry (earrings, rings and bracelets) I always have a lot of them. I like to mix them in ima ges and complement any outfit with them. What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years? In the next couple of years, I plan to start training aspiring photographers and give them information that I lacked so much when I started shooting as a photographer myself. Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? You can always see my works on my website KATERINAMEDVEDEVA.RU
Exclusive Interview with
What's the best part of being a photographer? What do you love the most about your job? For me, the best thing about being a photographer is the end result. When I see the final photo as the result of a lot of work by our entire creative team.
When did your passion for photography start and what were the main milestones that turned you into the artist you currently are? I have had a love for photography since childhood.

"
When did your passion for photography start and what were the main milestones that turned you into the artist you currently are? When I was in high school, I liked to see a lot of photography works, and began to take pictures in college. After graduation, I engaged in photography as a sideline. I was fortunate to know many fellow travelers and photographed a lot of works, so I de cided to switch to photography from the financial management industry. Tell us a bit more about your project "Free growth". Is there any particular message you would like to get across to the viewers? From makeup to clothing, it is very flexible, fluttering, and has the me aning of freedom. The overall color selection of blue is also because of the vastness and freedom of the sea, which means that today's young pe ople pursue their original aspirations, grow freely, and go forward.
What are the technical challenges of this kind of photography and how did you overcome them? The challenge is to come up with a plan that expres ses the idea. Fortunately, there is a team, and the makeup artist will also give some suggestions, and everyone will cooperate to complete the work. We admire the exquisite level of detail in all your works. Does your creative process start from a certain image in your mind, or do you seek inspi ration as you progress? Determine the lighting, makeup, costumes and props before shooting, and more detailed shooting ideas will also have new inspiration in the process. Would you have any tips for non-models on how to look good in front of the camera? I will set some scenes, let the model bring in the Exclusive Interview with character, and then seize the opportunity to shoot. I will also prepare some actions in advance according to the characte ristics of the model, so that they can refer to them when sho oting. You have an impressive portfolio. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other photographers? I want the overall to be mild but powerful, in terms of color, sometimes high contrast and rich color, sometimes low sa turation. What is your dream in terms of your career? It's very simple, I hope I can always sho ot what I want to shoot freely. If you couldn't be a photographer, what would be your other career choice? Maybe a teacher because I love to sha re. What is typically in your camera bag and what is your favori te photography accessory, other than your camera?
I have batteries in my camera bag, various glass items, and even stockings for photo props: favorite maybe film, with unk nown surprises. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future? I want to take pictures about the green theme later: The short -term goal is to enrich my shooting experience and have more works. Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? This is my instagram nickname: sanimosarah Email: ava_hong@126.com
THE CHALLENGE IS TO COME UP WITH A PLAN THAT EXPRES SES THE IDEA."

Minimalistic One of the simplest types of fashion subcul tures. There is the presumption that minima list fashion refers to single-colored outfits and lacks design and innovation, but in reality it has it’s own aesthetic, including fashion ba
Subcultures
A point on which many costume historians have agreed is that fashion, as the propensity for continual change in clothing and designs is a recent phenomenon in the history of hu manity, occurring only with the emergence of mercantile capitalism and the growth in global trade. Other scholars have analyzed fashion as an aspect of a distinctively modern con sumer culture that first gained popularity in the eighteenth century, happening in parallel with the beggining of the industrial revolution. Either way, to be "fashionable" in this histori cal sense of the term should not be understo od as a natural, universal, or biologically given aspect of human behavior, but as a socially and historically condition. Fashion is, in other words, a cultural construction, which means its very existence depends on the complex in teraction of specific economic, political, and ideological forces. If fashion is a cultural aspect, then fashion subcultures are groups organized around or based upon certain features of appearance, and adornment that make them distincti ve enough to be recognized or defined as a subset of the wider culture. Depending on the group in question, subcultures can be loosely or tightly bounded and their collective identi fication may be self-attributed or imputed to them by outsiders. Subcultures often create their own distinctiveness by defining them selves in opposition to the "mainstream" fa shion – the fashion trends that become more popular, the one we tend to see all over so cial media and red carpets – and they may be either radical and forward-looking or reac tionary and conservative in relation to the do minant mode of dressing: in either case, they always aim toward exclusivity. The way people express themselves through
Unique and super important subcultures such as goth, grunge, punk and emo represent a segment of alternative fashion. Though it mi ght seems like a present day trend, the concept has existed for centuries now. To make it clear, let’s take a look at the different types of fashion subcultures. Goth The goth subculture started gaining popularity in the early 1980s in the UK, inspired by gothic literature and architecture. It’s one of those ty pes of fashion subcultures that it’s not unusual for us to see in runways, actually, most modern fashion designers have branded their style of goth. This subculture has been part of society for a long time and has further diversified it self – and continues to evolve in the present days, as its still one of the most populars. Dark clothing is the biggest inspiration. Velvet, lace, mesh, and other similar materials are also frequently used.
44 Fashion & Beauty | May 2022
FASHION & THE SENSE OF PARTICIPATION their fashion choices keeps evolving over time, and it happens differently in different places and societies too; Fashion is far from being a homogenous umbrella of clothes, shoes, ac cessories and makeup, actually, it has initiated many different and complex trends, which con gregate into subcultures. So long story short, subcultures are a result of fashion trends that groups of people with similar interests prefer.
Another segment that we can talk about here is alternative fashion, which refers to fashion that does not conform to the trends of its time.

Valentina RoqueArticle by sics, timeless pieces and simple silhouettes. The importance of fabric and form dominates the function of the outfit. Some essentials for a great and stylish minimalist fit include thick sweaters, straight-leg black jeans, button-ups, and ankle boots. A few popular minimalistic combinations are black and white, neutrals, all whites, all blacks and texture contrasts.
Bohemian Bohemian, or ‘boho chic’ or simply ‘boho’, goes back to the late 60s and 70s. It highlights natu ral materials and earth shades. Inspired by hip pie culture, bohemian fashion represents free expression and informal style: it is a combina tion of neutral colors, vintage retro patterns, and 70s style. Among all the types of fashion subcultures, this one is comfortable and fun. Boho outfits usually include loose tops with V-necks or off shoulders, mix prints, bishop sleeves, harem pants, flared jeans, and flowy skirts. Maximalism is also big in this aesthetic, so clash prints, styles, colors, and bright tones are common with layered, chunky, and mi smatched jewelry. And because society is always changing and evolving, there are always new subcultures, now being seen specially in the younger gene rations, like millenials and Gen-Z. K-Style K-style is a popular fashion subculture that started to grow all over the world in the 2010s. It is one of the most popular types of fashion subcultures now, influenced by the everyday street fashion of South Korea, and especially the style of K-pop artists. The main elements are trench coats, pastel shirts, midi skirts, and flared wide-leg jeans. K-pop bands popularized this subculture.
E-Boys & E-Girls The ‘e’ stands for ‘electronic’ and this style gained got super popular on the internet ge neration of 2019. It is a youth subculture that starter being spotted in the late 2010s and is almost exclusively seen only on social media. This trend has recently been popularized by Gen-Z in apps like TikTok, Discord, and Twitch. The elements of this subculture include lon g-sleeved striped and graphic t-shirts, jeans with wallet chains, mesh t-shirts, plaid skirts, and fishnet stockings. The main color scheme is either bright bubble gum pinks and blues or conversely dark. Dark Academy Dark academia is an aesthetic inspired by lite rature and arts. History, Greek arts, and dark elements have attributed to the unfolding of this subculture. It is one of the mysterious ty pes of fashion subcultures that romanticizes the idea of elite education. This subculture is also influenced by the Harry Potter saga. The series brought back woolen sweaters, brown pants, and rich textured cardigans into fashion again. Subsequently, crispy white button-up shirts, cotton pants, and flowy linen dress per fectly fit this subculture. In conclusion, fashion has evolved to a really big extent since its beggining; it is volatile and never stops upgrading. Although these sub cultures might seem diverse, their motives are similar: they help people stand out and express their individuality, which is exactly Fashion is supposed to do.

Ramona Murgu
When did your passion for photography start and what were the main milestones that turned you into the artist you currently are?
Passion for photography…well, I think I was always taking photos of everything around me, especially street and urban photography. Then, 3 years ago my boyfriend en couraged me to take a photography course, specializing in fashion photography and that was the moment when I fell in love with taking photos of people, and brands. Since then, fashion photography is my favorite thing to do, there’s just something about capturing both a per son’s uniqueness and the brand identity in a single pho tograph. Has your vision and style evolved or changed over time? Yes, definitely and it’s not yet “defined”. I just started this adventure, and my feeling is that in art, your style is always evolving. There is just so much to learn, to try and I love this journey. How has photography influenced you as a person and what do you love most about being a photographer? Doing photography helped me to express myself. What do I love about being a pho tographer? Everything, starting with working with people in a fully creative team, capturing emotions, and ending a 12h photoshoot with a smile on our faces. What inspires you and what gives you ideas to create your beautiful images? Can your ideas change depending on the model you are working with? The people who I work with, the model that will be in front of my camera, new faces, pla ces...being inspired is a constant state for me. Before every shooting, I’m doing the mood board based on the models and how I “see” them. I always try to meet the models before the shooting, so I can learn a bit about them, and I can gain their trust, making them feel com fortable while working together. I’m inspired by many things, but while I’m shooting, it could be the look from the model’s eyes, the way that the light is falling on them, the shadows, the posing, the body form, the environment, music…And yes, I often change ideas on the set depending on the models, their attitudes, or the suggestions from them or the entire team. From your point of view, what makes the shoot successful? Emotions. Before every shooting, I’m telling my Interview with

boyfriend that I’m nervous and he tells me that whe never I’m getting nervous, the result is great! I feel like if I’m not nervous, I’m not into it. I get nervous because I want to be a successful shoot. And then, they are the tiny details from the final result. Unique images, with impact, being able to communicate the concept and the emotions from the entire project. In addition to being sharp and well lit, your photos are beautifully edited. What is your retouching/production philosophy? Thank you! My retouching philosophy – focus on your vision of what the picture should look like, the editing software is just a tool. Don’t go extra, keep the textural details, some things are fixable in a pho to, but not everything.
Photography can be a somewhat unforgiving industry with a lot of egos, how do you deal with it on set or behi nd the scenes? Before being a photographer, my profes sional background was as a people mana ger, so lucky me. This background is really helpful, as I treat every single photoshoot like a team project, and I apply my abilities in communication and coordination. I think that good communication between the team is the key, so no room for too much ego or conflict management. If you couldn't be a photographer, what would be your other career choice? Something that would make me happy. This year marks two years of being self -employed and a photographer, so let’s not think about tomorrow.
What has been the highlight of your career so far and what are your hopes/dreams for the future?
What is one last impression you want to leave in your photographs? That I have a relationship with my sub ject, and I want you to feel that relation ship. Honestly, I love making people feel good when they see themselves in my photos. I love the confidence boost I see from my models. I love connecting with people through my work. So, in the end, I love hearing that you can see the beau ty of them through my eyes.
I am proud of so many things I have accomplished in only two years – starting with photography courses, an exhi bition, having my photographs published in international magazines like yours, even as covers, working with diffe rent models, with some famous local fashion brands, de signers, MUA and hairstylists from the industry, collabo rating with a professional model agency. So, I don’t think I can pick up only one highlight. My dreams for the future… to have a lot of excellent projects with great outcomes, to improve myself, to have fun, and continue this journey. Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? My current work can be seen on Instagram at ramona. murgu. You will also be able to see more of my work on my website ramonamurgu.ro, so stay tuned.

I look mainly for beauty* with sensibility and a very personalized aesthetic. But it all depends on the moodboard of the project and of course the model I am working with.
I have done sessions with very experimented models which pose like just angels, and can easily follow my directions. This of course makes it easier for the photographer to work and to accomplish projects with beautiful results. But I have also done sessions with new faces, and sometimes their inexperience, insecurity and fra gility are portrayed and the result is astonishing.
Exclusive Interview with Antonio M-Cattáneo empty. Today my obsession is just the opposite. I try to capture life, expressions, looks, movement, and of course to tell a story. Due to the fact I have been continuously learning about the work of different photographers, I have been trying to emulate their styles, with the sole desire to learn. This has allowed me to find my own pace. But I think every project needs its own mood and style, so today, a good photographer needs to be able to take good shots but also to know how to do quality editing.
As a conclusion, I prefer to shoot with those people who feel com fortable. It is essential to spend a little time to know each other before pointing anybody with a camera. Can you please explain some of the feelings you are trying to achieve in your photographs?
To begin, where are you based? How long has photography been a hobby and career of yours? What motivated you to get started? I am a Spanish designer and photographer based in Madrid and Valencia. I got my first camera at the age of 8, a beautiful 35mm Olympus XA2 my mother had at home and gave me by surprise. Ever since then, photography started being a serious hobby. Ten years lat er I studied Industrial Design in the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), and it was there where I started learning photography and spending hours in the dark room. I have been working as a digital developer and manager until 2021. It was then when I shifted and started my photography business. What attracted me has always been the possibility of freezing scenes and making them part of the memory. What is your dream in terms of your career? I would love to be able to combine differ ent photography styles and therefore I am working in this direction. On the one hand, to continue developing my career as a fashion and portrait photog rapher, and on the other hand, to continue exploring other types of photography that fascinate me, more social related, street life, travel and also industrial photography. My dream would be able to mix some of those fields because I think you can achieve very interesting results. What has been your most successful moment to date in your career so far? My career as a photographer is very short to date, so I don´t really have a “most suc cessful moment”. But I do have had a lot of great moments accomplishing ideas I had in mind, both conceptually and technically, and building up my portfolio. I have had the chance to see some of my photos hanging on temporary exhibitions, and I am currently working on a collective fanzine and exhibition with other five pho tographers. Hopefully this Project may end as a book. Has your vision and style evolved or changed over time? Absolutely, and I hope it never stops evolv ing. In the beginning I even avoided taking pictures of people, When I shot landscapes or streets I waited until they were clean and
During the sessions I also try to capture tranquillity, tension, em powerment, fragility, confidence…
*Beauty does not necessarily mean goodlooking. Fashion can be a somewhat unforgiving industry with a lot of egos, how do you deal with it on set or behind the scenes? It's not just in the fashion industry. I have worked in many other industries and there are egos everywhere. In general, you will be fine if you respect everyone, if you are inclu sive, if you respect each other's work. Of course, we all connect better with some people than others. If you happen to work with someone with a big ego, add a little humor, then concentrate on
What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why?

your job and talent. We all receive negative and -sometimes unasked- feedback, just try not to take it personally, learn to recover quickly, and listen to those who really want the best for you.
How has photography influenced you as a person and what do you love most about be ing a photographer? Photography has helped me to look at the world in a different way, calmly, with other points of view, sharply, and that is what I like the most, to be able to observe and wait.
The possibilities that creative photography can offer, freezing moments and giving them my personal touch allows me to express many things. I really like drawing and I think I am not bad at it, but I find photography more effec tive as an expression form. Also photography keeps me awake and learning all the time. I love watching other people’s work, their books and tutorials. From your point of view, what makes the shoot successful?
Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? You can follow my work through two Insta gram accounts, @amcattaneo for Fashion and Portraits, and @cattaneophoto for Street, Travel, People, Landscape and Industrial Pho Youtography.canalso visit my website cattaneo-photo. com And I am present in Litmind and Kavyar. Thank you for reading!
A shoot is successful when it can speak on its own, when it tells a story, when it captures an idea or expression. Of course, it does not have to be technically perfect. But it will be twice successful if you get your client happy and willing to pay ;) What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future? I would love to get hired by more fashion brands and editorial groups. In terms of education, I am willing to contin ue my training probably doing a Photography Project course. In 2023 I hope to collaborate with other photog raphers by hosting international workshops.

Looking back, how has make-up artistry changed or influenced you as a person? Makeup totally changed my Ilife.became much more open person due to communica tion with clients, thanks my job I stopped being shy to make stories in instagram, I became a more liberated and creative person. I love make up and my job with all my heart and soul. How do you keep up with
Anna, how did your career begin in the world of beauty?
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
I started my career as a makeup artist 3 years ago in the best school of Belar us @tomina_studio
My brand identity is bright creative makeup with focus on details, bold stylish and modern images, high-quality and technique work.
Anna, what is the most exciting or challenging opportunity you had as a freelance artist? What's the project you are most proud of?

Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? You can follow my work in: Instagram: @anna.shik_mua Tik Tok: VK:Facebook:@anna.shik_mua@anna.shik.mua@anna.shik_muaSame advice as for photographers, don't be afraid to experiment, be silly or inappropriate
What do you think are some of the keys to being a successful makeup artist?
Why is having an MUA essential to a photog rapher? The importance of makeup for the photogra pher: Firstly, the makeup artist uses professional cosmetics, which lasts longer and gives a more pronounced effect. Tonal products are denser, the pigmentation of eye shadows is stronger, lip sticks are more resistant, etc.
I am constantly following new trends. I read fashion magazines such as @voguemagazine @malviemag @imiragemagazine and others. I look at the images of stars on the red carpet, visit master classes of famous stylists and makeup artists, get inspiration from beautiful works of colleagues, from lovely girls, new cosmetics, new clothes and accessories, study numerous pho tos on Pinterest, participate in beauty marathons.
The key to success goes through a lot of work. You need to work hard, at the very beginning work for free, improve your skills with top make up artists, practice and improve makeup tech niques, cooperate with top photographers and stylists, not to be afraid to try something new for yourself, buy best cosmetic products, but the most important thing is sincerely love your job! Why is shooting for cameras and lights, differ ent than everyday makeup? Makeup for a photo shoot differs from everyday makeup. Bright, bold makeup is absolutely un suitable in the office of a large company. On the contrary, for a creative photo shoot, it is better to give preference to a bright unusual image. When going to a date, give up the idea of too "flashy" makeup; sweet, not haunting makeup is better for brides. Bright neon makeup will be suitable in the club or on the pages of a fashion magazine.
all the new trends and styles? Where do you pull your inspiration from to help you with your work?
What is the most important beauty advice that you can give to women? The most important advice that I want to give girls is to love yourself, take care of yourself, be confident in yourself, do not stand still, but always develop and then you will con quer this world! What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years? In the coming years, I want to master the profession of a hairstyle stylist, as well as bring my techniques to perfec tion by studying with the best teachers. I also want to open the best makeup studio in my city!
Secondly, the makeup that you are used to doing yourself may absolutely not be suitable for shoot ing, I will explain why. Many people in everyday life like to matte their face with powder and other means to avoid the shine of the skin. The camera also likes a healthy glow and volume, which can be achieved by contouring, using highlighters, bronzers, sculptors, etc. A face with a mattifying foundation or powder in the pictures is likely to look like a flat pancake. Also, in everyday makeup, some neglect lipstick, and in pho tos it is fraught with an unhealthy appearance, especially if you have naturally pale lips. And cracks and peeling on the lips are almost impossible to remove with Photoshop.

What I admire most about photography is the ability to draw with light and capture unique moments forever. I love staged photography, beautiful clothes and beautiful people, I always admire the new collections of our designers. Tell us a bit more about your project. Is there any particular message you would like to get across to the viewers? My project is shooting a collection of clothes "Barege" by the wonderful designer Anna Sue valova, it is a story in fabrics and lines, a story of love, memories and beauty of the modern era. Creating this collection, Anna wanted any woman who wears it to feel sophisticated, majestic and aristocratic. The clothes were supposed to emphasize female individuality, complementing any age, giving perfection to posture and movements, inspire love, inspire action. When creating this collection, the de signer surrounded herself with art objects and old photographs of her ancestors born at the junction of two eras. This collection is their sto ry, written in velvet, beads and silk. What type of projects are dearest to your heart? Why? I love projects related to the elements - fire, wa ter, earth and air. Therefore, I try to use splash es, smoke, rays, fog, water, lighting effects, chandeliers, candles in the shooting. All this gives my shots a special, sometimes magical atmosphere.
What advice would yoz give to someone looking at a career in photography? I advise all novice photographers to study composition, color studies and never be afraid to experiment.

I came to photography from painting, I have two art educations, ac cording to the first of them I am an artist, ac cording to the second I am a specialist in art photography and photojournalism. I am inspired by the collections of clothes that I am go ing to shoot. Ksenia, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography?
My name is Ksenia Rybka, I’m a fashion and beauty photographer. My grandfather was the first in our family who was into photography. He had an old film camera from the middle of last century, jars with reagents and a red lamp to work with negatives. I still use some of his lenses to create a retro effect on my However, photos. my pas sion for photography started in adulthood and by pure chance. I was 28 when my husband found a box with a brand-new Ni kon DSLR camera in our country house. Nobody knew where it came from or who it belonged to. “A nice present from a des tiny” I thought and be gan using it to create my first photos and started my way to the world of photography.professional
What has been your most successful mo ment to date in your career so far? Actually I had a lot of exiting events in my career, such as photo contest wins, maga zine covers, first pu blication on PhotoVo gue, fashion shows, my debut as a lecturer on a photo festival, shoots for known brands and so on. All these events were without any doubt very pleasant and inspiring milestones of my life, but I believe that even more great moments in my career are is still ahead. How do you manage to make your models feel com fortable in front of the camera? I always try to get to know a model in advance, we chat on social media, I send her/him a moodboard and other information regarding an upcoming shoot, introduce other team members. Talking about important com mercial shoots, we can have a pre-shoot to get used to each other. On smaller shoots I ask a mo del to come 30 minutes earlier just to have time to relax and talk on abstract topics over a cup of coffee or Duringtea. the shooting, I continue mood.temusicbackgroundalwayscretmydisplay.oncomputergopicturesshowcessary.correctgedel,withcommunicatetothemoencouraher/himorifneIalsoher/himonthethroughaorthecameraAndmainseismusic-Iturnontocreaaproper

starts much in advance. I believe that the main part of any project is preproduction rather than shooting itself. It includes thinking through the concept, location, lighting, choosing models and other team members, and all other things that may seem boring at a first glance but in fact pro vide 90% of success. So on the day of a shoot you just follow your plan and enjoy the result!
What do you look for in a creative team? What key skills are you looking for to ensure you are picking the best artists to work with? First of all I pay attention to a professional port folio. Secondly - recommendations from others. I prefer specialists who stay for the entire shoot and can fix clothing or make-up on the go. I also appreciate soft skills such as sociability, punctua lity and politeness. Every specialist should be focused on an overa ll good result, instead of pulling the blanket over himself, trying to demonstrate what a good spe cialist he or she is. The key of the success is team work. What would be some tips you would give to a beginning photographer? Your best investment is not an expensive came ra or a lighting equipment. Invest in yourself - take a basic photography course and choose a specific genre you want to work in. Believe in yourself and practice more. Make photography your passion, not just everyday routine. Keep experimenting and never give up! What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio?
In early times of fashion industry some people thou ght that models were just mannequins for garments and accessories. That was never true of course, but I can still hear this opinion from people out of indus try from time to time. Nowadays, the most successful models are extre mely charismatic and full of personality - they are not just pretty good-looking girls. It’s important to express a fashion brand philosophy through a mo del’s emotions and mood in the photo. Don’t be shy, even if you are a beginning model, just relax and enjoy. And remember - to be the best you need to work with bests. In addition to being sharp and well lit, your pho tos are beautifully edited. What is your retouching/ production philosophy? Retouching is an essential part of any fashion or beauty shoot, but it is my belief that retouching should be natural and relevant. A retoucher is like a good chef who adds some spices to make а dish tastes better. After his work every photo gains a fini shed look and the dignity of the model is emphasi zed. But one should be very careful with retouching, as like a chef you can add too much salt or pepper and the dish will be spoiled.
If you couldn't be a photographer, what would be your other career choice? Hm, difficult question. I can not imagine myself be ing someone else, not a photographer. But it would probably be some related creative profession such as a 3D artist which I’m actually also interested in. What are your future plans/goals for the next cou ple of years? I’d like to travel more and shoot campaigns for fas hion brands in different countries. It would be great to visit all five continents and to realise my ultimate dream which is to have a photoshoot in Moon and Mars valleys in Atacama Desert in Chile.
Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? Please feel free to connect with me in Instagram (@ ksenia.rybka) and on my personal website (kseniarybka.com). And I’m always glad to talk in person over a cup of tea or coffee :)

From your point of view, what are the most difficult aspects of professional beauty photogra phy? I feel beauty is very challenging in a way there is nowhere to hide – no grand wardrobe or location. It’s the close connection with camera right in your face and any uncomfortable/awkward micro ex pressions are so easy to spot. One must be so comfortable in their skin to be able to let that con nection in through the lens to create the story that draws the viewer in and makes them feel through the imagery. As the expert you are, what are the unique features of this kind of photography and the keys to mastering it? I feel true creativity requires radical honesty. Get out of your way and trust the process, be okay with the uncertainty and stay with the process. I don’t go on the set with trying to create a particular pose or final image set in mind. I think the word is “Play” – let the play between the photographer and the subject and the glass is the medium. In your opinion, how beauty is perceived at the present age? What does photography mean to you personally and what really makes a woman beautiful? I am so glad you asked this question. The indus try is changing rapidly – we are embracing beauty in all shapes and colors. The talent agencies are becoming more diverse. There are specific agen cies representing people with visible differences, alternative appearances & LGBTQIA talent. We are in the age of revolutionizing inclusiveness. We are embracing skin texture – no more photoshopped por celain skin in ads setting unrealistic standards leading to mental health issues especially to the young gen eration. There are several brands who are ditching re touching completely and adding that disclaimer to the beauty campaigns. I think all of this a huge step for ward. People want representation. Photography to me is all about the story; a message through an image. And nothing makes a woman more beautiful than owning who she is – every bit of it. The most beautiful women are honest, vulnerable and not afraid to show their flaws. What type of models do you prefer to shoot with? Why? When I am looking for a talent, I am more interest ed in how I connect with the talent when I am going through the portfolio compared to the physical aspect or how well a model can pose. The posing/body lan guage is given, it comes with the job. But do I see a smile through the eyes? What are the eyes saying? Or are the eyes empty? You have to truly feel & be if you want camera to see it. Are there any other photographers you look up? Who? I am a huge fan of Peter Lindbergh’s work. He truly re defined beauty & how women were perceived through his photography. In his words” If photographers are re sponsible for creating or reflecting an image of women in society...then, I must say, there is only one way for the future, and this is to define women as strong and independent. This should be the responsibility of pho tographers today: to free women, and finally everyone, from the terror of youth and perfection”. You are going about conducting a photo shoot, could you take us through the typical planning process for your images? The first step is the ideation – the message, story, pur pose. That idea then helps me with creating the mood board and sharing with the team. After the discussion, the mood board is finalized – number of looks and the sequence of looks. The next step is to find the talent that fits the story. After selecting the talent, finalizing the shoot details comes the shoot day. When its all hap pening the vision we have created through the mood board. I think the shoot day is actually the fun part of

Neha, could you please briefly introduce yourself, and tell us about your first encounter with photography? Who has influenced you to start taking photographs? I am a beauty and fashion photographer based in New York City. My career in photography began after leaving an unfulfilling profession in the cor porate world in pursuit of a creatively driven and artistic life of purpose. I first picked up a camera in my early twenties as a creative outlet shooting ev erything. Over time I learned it was the story telling, connection and emotional exploration that moved me. And led me to pursue the creative career.
creating it. A lot of the work and effort goes into the pre-shoot. In addition to being sharp and well lit, your photos are beau tifully edited. What is your re touching/production philoso phy? My retouching philosophy is if you’re born with it – it stays. Only remove the temporary skin imperfections – redness, acne, flyaway hair etc. There is very minimal retouching that goes in my images all the work is done through lighting.
What would be your tips/advice to models looking to expand their portfolio? My advice would be to be honest with yourself. Ask yourself what sort of imagery/stories excite me. Because that’s where you’ll thrive and then find the photog rapher who can help you create that. What projects are you working on next, and what are your goals for the future? I shoot a lot of beauty work & lots of beauty projects in the works. My future goal is creative fulfill ment. When I first started shooting, I was nervous because I didn’t know the rules. I had no college degree to validate that I am a professional photographer. But overtime I learned there are no rules in creativity. I want to stay true to who I am as an artist & I hope my work will have a positive impact in the world of advertising. Where can we see more of your works and get connected with you? How did you discover photography and what mo tivated you to get started? It is really hard to say. I was born in Gliwice (Po land). This is the place where I still keep most of my belongings, the place where I come back after a trip. I would rather say that the road is my home. I travel between different countries when a job or project is calling me. Even now, I am sitting at the airport in Rimini. I was discovering photography when I was a kid. I could see my grandfather, my uncles and my dad doing reportages during family ceremonies and trips. I got my first camera (Fujifilm Zoom 76s) when I was 9 years old. I remember when I had got my first film developed and I showed it to my grandfather. Pictures of flowers and plants from his garden were his favorites. He made me feel proud of myself and he created desire in me to ex plore this universe much more. This is how it start ed. While I was taking photos during my school trips, work at camps I felt over my ears and I have decided to start my education. The years still have been passing on, but my grandfather's support at the beginning of my photographic journey is moti vating me to be better. What's the best part of being a photographer? What do you love the most about your job? The best part of being a photographer is meeting new people. The possibility of creating something together. Every day brings you something new, something unexpected. There is no routine. You have a spirit of freedom and constant inspiration instead. Pho tography is a powerful tool which I can also use to talk about important issues. I consider it beautiful.
First of all, photography is a process. Most of it hap pens in a photographer’s mind, much before taking a camera into hands. You have to know “why?” you make those specific choices - why this theme, why this place, why you should press the shutter button now.
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH
Secondly - be always ready. Thirdly - a competent team where everyone can bring creative space to express her/himself is the key to a successful session.
How do you connect with your models? Do they tend to be people you know or strangers? I used to work with my friends. Most of them are con nected with art. They are dancers, musicians, painters. Due to this fact they can easily catch my crazy ideas. Being open minded for new experiences is an addition al advantage of such cooperation. However, for the last six months I've been working with strangers who have much more modeling experience. In both situations it is very important to me to create a positive atmosphere on set and to allow models to be themself. I think peo ple look best in photos when they are natural in the way they pose.
Gabriela, can you tell us about yourself, please. Where do you live now and where are you from?
How would you describe your photographic vision? My photography vision...it is better to ask recipients of my photography. Anyways, I would say it is colorful and dynamic.
What are the most important lessons you have learned about photography so far?

What's going through your mind when you are on set behind the camera? Just the set exists then. My mind is mainly focused on the model, lighting, the whole creation and I want to capture a scene as beautiful as it is in my eyes. When it happens and everything is as it should, my heart is over whelmed with joy. How would you define "beauty"? What does it mean to you? My definition of beauty says that it is a specific fusion of dependencies between shapes, figures, colors, individuality, symmetry and its absence which makes you stop your eyesight. When you remain positively indifferent to the object you observe, regardless of whether it is a model, element of nature or a material object. It can evoke a sense of harmony in a spectator of “beauty”.
What are your future plans/goals for the next couple of years? I will probably not be original in my answer, but due to the fact that I would like photography to become my way of life, I would like to develop my pho tography skills and knowledge, create my own, recognizable style and enjoy each subsequent session as if it were the first. I would like to be able to learn from the best photographers and carry out important projects. Naturally, some of the plans are more specific, but for now I prefer to not say them out loud and enjoy the slow process of achieving them.
Are you the sort of photographer who plans for every minuscule detail or are you more spontaneous with your creations? Where do you find the majority of your inspiration? I am in the process of learning to plan as much as possible. Creation part is very important for me, nevertheless I leave some space for spontaneous actions and changes. Often this space gives a breath of freshness. It is hard to point to a specific source of inspiration. Usually, these are con versations, often unrelated to photography, as well as single words, obser vation of nature, travels, works of outstanding artists etc. I have wide in terests, I am trying a lot of different things. When you add my education in cognitive science and biology to this list, you can better understand that all of that helps me find inspiration in little things. How do you keep yourself motivated and your photography fresh? “The more I know, the more I realize I know nothing.” Nobody teaches us how to live or how to find a destiny. I have taken myself for a trip to explore opportunities which life gives to us. Trying new things, working and travel ing through different countries, meeting new people and their cultures helps me to cultivate curiosity and an inner child and as a result, it motivates me to be the better version of myself also as a photographer.
Where can our readers keep up with your work and get connected with you? For now, you can get connected with me on Instagram. @lece.pa is my pho tography and travel account. Unfortunately, my website is not ready yet. It is one of the plans to create it. I should mention it in a previous question as well.
