country, with more than a dozen nationalities. This is due to the local economy being heavily reliant on the dairy industry, with many overseas workers employed in the local area. The farmland around this school is predominately corporate owned dairy farms, which has a large impact on the school with families constantly arriving and leaving mid-year following the dairy calendar. The objective of this event was to promote good all round wellbeing within the rural community by providing an opportunity for farming families

to come together to participate in activities that involve the whole family. This is to encourage habits that will make each family unit stronger and to help people realise that they don’t always have to go out of the farm gate to take time off. It’s all about appreciating the simple things in life. The mechanism used to structure the events during the fun community day, focused on the five strategies for looking after your physiological wellbeing and happiness. These are ‘Be Active’, ‘Take Notice’, ‘Keep Learning’,

‘Give’ and ‘Connect’. Hororata Primary School had great activities based around these concepts which kept the children active and thinking. The pupils took part in a range of fun and educational activities that the Lincoln students organised. “This is the fourth year we have been running this at Hororata Primary School and it’s all about improving wellbeing within the rural community,” commented Amy Wells, Wells a third year student at Lincoln and a member of the Future Leaders Scholar Scheme.
