KidsFest is Returning

The Selwyn District Council will be running a busy programme for the popular annual KidsFest event, over the school holidays, from Saturday 10th to Sunday, July 25th. KidsFest is an annual two- week Council events program, produced for Canterbury children aged 0-17 years. The festival o ers several exciting events and activities through the winter school holidays. Children and their families can have fun with crafts, science, performing arts, sports and technology. KidsFest has been entertaining tamariki since its creation in 1992 and reaches out to the Christchurch, Waimakariri and Selwyn Districts. This year is extra special, as they celebrate 30 years of KidsFest and there are some exciting additions on top of old favourites. Council Events and Funding Coordinator, Cristene Trenuela Cristene Trenuela Cristene Trenuela Cristene Trenuela Chan Chan Chan Chan said, “we’re delighted with an exciting lineup of over seventy events this year. We have put a real focus on getting events out across more of the district and have added a whole new set of events at the Selwyn Sports Centre”. The festival will feature events held at a variety of places and will include the return of favourites, such as the high ropes challenge, Moviemania and Elgregoe the Magician. There are hundreds of exciting and interactive activities to choose from including robots, books, costumes, paint, puzzles and more. The popular Kids Market will see markets held in Rolleston and Darfield, in addition to the annual market in Lincoln. The Selwyn Youth Council will be bringing the dance moves for 13-17 year olds, with two BOOST events, a Hip Hop workshop and a disco where people can head along with their TikTok moves. Children and families will once again have the opportunity to get a whole new view of the district through the Eye Spy Selwyn activity hunt, which will entail children exploring the district to win prizes. Tickets are on sale now. Lots of events are free, however, some do have a charge.
