The Hororata Community Trust 'Heritage of a rural water scheme tour', held on March 11th was reported to be a fabulous day out with people travelling from all over New Zealand to take part. Organisers were absolutely delighted that the tour proved to be so popular. Starting at the Hororata Domain the tour took people through Gl e nt un n e l a nd u p to Windwhistle where the Snowdon Water scheme originates. Local guides provided information during the tour on the historic water schemes and farming

operations. The tour took detours on to private farms to see the historic intake and siphon. As a special treat people got to look inside the Coleridge Power Station, got a bird's eye view of the CPW scheme and a modern irrigation set-up. The Trust thanks the volunteers that made this event happen. “It was their passion that made it so special,” commented Cindy Driscoll of the Hororata Community Trust. “Thanks also to those land owners who opened up their gates for the tour. The ability to have

participants look inside the historic Coleridge Power station was very special, and we thank Trustpower for this opportunity. CPW gave a great presentation on their irrigation scheme, while Hororata Primary School provided a wonderful lunch and the Lake Coleridge Billiards’ Club wowed everyone with a huge range of sweet treats for afternoon tea. “The aim of the Hororata Community Trust heritage project is to promote our area’s history, encourage collaboration and inspire people to share their stories,” Cindy said. “This tour certainly delivered on this and we look forward to March 2019 when we will find another interesting way to explore our heritage,” she concluded.
