Kirwee School’s Enviro Day

Kirwee Model School (KMS) - Te Kura Tikoki recently celebrated their first Enviro Day. Children rotated around four activities, including investigating bugs in the Hoskyns Road water race and the Anglican Church grounds, using harakeke to make putiputi (flowers) and planting more than a trailer load of plants on KMS grounds. Darfield High School’s (DHS) Teacher in Charge of Māori, Louise Blakemore and several DHS students attended the day to support KMS students. “Of course, our wonderful whanau (both parents and grandparents) were also there to work alongside our tamariki. “A big thank you to the Anglican Church for allowing us to use their grounds on the day. We were fortunate to have a trailer load of plants donated by local nursery owner, Sally Purdon from Gardening Gurus, to continue our School planting programme. We can't wait to plan more exciting activities for next year and begin our journey to become a certified Enviro School,” commented Kirwee Model School teacher, Liz Carston.
