HANDY LANDYS Handy Landys is a Club at Lincoln University that started after the Kaikoura earthquakes, as many farmers needed a hand to deal with the level of destruction that was present. From there, this group has grown from strength to strength. The purpose of the Club is to support the agricultural industry that members are passionate about. They help farmers and rural people in any way that they can, including but not limited to cleaning up fences, tidying up trees and helping with flood or damage related issues. Currently, the group have a membership of approximately thirty active members from all
walks of life, studying different degrees. However, many members are studying agriculture and are keen to meet more people within the industry by volunteering. They love talking to the farmers and making great connections, and by volunteering they learn about the ups and downs of farming. The Club worked alongside the Student Volunteer Army with the 2021 flood clean-up around Canterbury, which included five trips helping about eight farmers. In April 2022, they helped pick an apple crop as a farmer could not find enough pickers, which
enabled the farmer to get his crop away before it spoilt. If you, or someone you know, needs a hand send the Club an email so they can see if there is a way they can help! To contact the group email: handylandys18@gmail.com or send them a message on Facebook.
