The 29th annual Malvern Game Hunters compe on, held last weekend, saw a similar number of registra ons as the previous few years. Approximately 200 hunters bagged a good number of large, impressive animals for the weigh-in, on Sunday at the Coalgate Tavern, which saw people from all over the South Island a ending. Weights were similar in the boar and red stag sec ons compared to last year, but slightly down in the fallow stag, tahr and chamois sec ons. The judges choice sec on was won by Heath Smith and second place went to Haylie Ha on who both had impressive animals. The pig carrying sec on saw a great number of keen par cipants over all sec ons this year, which was fantas c. President of the Club Jarrad Simpson was awarded the Mark Ranui Memorial Trophy, for the biggest boar weighed -in from a Malvern Game Hunters Club member. “The commi ee would like to thank Steve and Ann Joy of Coalgate Tavern for their support, as well as all our sponsors who donated a ra of wonderful prizes, helping to make this one of the best hun ng compe ons around. “We know things have been different the past two compe ons due to Covid-19, so we really appreciate all of those who chose to enter or sponsor our compe on. Planning starts now for next year’s event, hope to see you there,” commented President Jarrad Simpson.
