Over the recent school holidays, several students from TM Dance World (TMDW) competed in the annual Christchurch Ballet Society Competitions, held at Riccarton High School. The girls had some fabulous results performing in solos, duos and team events. A very special mention goes to Eden Whelan, who was presented with a special award at the end of the Competition from the Judge for the Most Promising Dancer 12 years and under! Eden is a part of the TMDW Elementary School Programme, which sees her train in Jazz, Ballet, Acrobatics, Performance, Contemporary and Stretch Leap and Turn classes weekly. Over Queens Birthday weekend, the studio also danced in the New Zealand Dance Awards (NZDA). As this was the NZDA ten year celebration, the competition ran for over a week at the brand new Te Pae Convention Centre in Christchurch. Getting to dance in such a flash, world-class venue was very exciting for everyone, not to mention performing on the stage, which was eighteen metres long! This was also quite a challenge! Our Intermediate Performance Team did particularly well, placing seventh overall in their Lyrical team called ‘A Team’ and also tenth overall for their Contemporary Team ‘Run Boy Run’. The studio is now working hard leading up to their annual examinations, and then we are excited to head to Marlborough for the annual Blenheim dance competitions! We are super proud of all the TM Dancers doing so well.
